[Bug 2063331] Re: systemd-networkd-wait-online.service runs into a timeout during boot
Just a quick heads up (GA-790FXTA-UD5-rev-10 motherboard), adding the ... optional: true ... to the 50-cloud-init.yaml does indeed solve the bug. I had exact same situation with twin ethernet port on my motherboard. It is now solved. OT: Can't believe in a long time Google actually found an answer for me from the first try. [Bug 1851385] Re: ubuntu 19.10 / print bug : requires authentication
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1849859 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1849859 I realize the last post here was almost two years ago, but I am new to Ubuntu, having recently wiped my drive to completely remove Windows from my laptop. Funny enough, my reason for getting rid of Windows was that they kept re-installing an update that interfered with printing to a shared printer. Now, with Ubuntu, I'm happy to be done with Windows and vow never to go back...but I'm still having problems printing. I found this post because I'm experiencing these exact symptoms, but the suggested solution does not work. Is anybody working on a fix? Is there a work-around? I have a very stable Windows 7 desktop that is always on...connected via USB to an old HP Laserjet IV Plus that is a workhorse. The printer works great locally, and until a few weeks ago it was working flawlessly as a shared printer, as well. When I installed Ubuntu and ran into this problem, I tried every suggestion I was able to find on the web, but nothing works. I continue to see this same behavior with the "credentials required" error. [Bug 1890672] Re: secure boot fails after upgrade to grub2-common 2.04-1ubuntu26.2
ok, can i at least assume that shim is not required? that was my main issue. i wanted a single unencrypted file (grub + initramfs by another name:), and, my chain of trust. that is the key for me, if there is a requirement to only use shim and the microsoft keys, i'm in trouble. if its simply that canonical doesn't test w/o shim, that's ok. But it seems empirically that shim is now a hard requirement since the valid signed kernel no longer validates w/ this patch of grub. i guess also to the original bug from the original author here, perhaps removing the no-longer-supported option from grub doc would be good? the set check_signatures=no -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1890672 Title: secure boot fails after upgrade to grub2-common 2.04-1ubuntu26.2 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1890672/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1890672] Re: secure boot fails after upgrade to grub2-common 2.04-1ubuntu26.2
I'm the author of that secure boot package. I think you might misunderstand... what it does is put all the grub config etc into a signed initramfs. So you cannot change the grub.cfg. Also, to sign the binaries you need the GPG keyring and the passphrase. The objective is to *not* use the shipped trusted microsoft key. The only key in the UEFI keystore is our own chain of trust. So The goal is to *not* use shim. It is used in conjunction w/ full disk encryption. The only file unencrypted is a single grub w/ the ininitramfs, and that is in turn signed. The kernel, etc, are all on the encrypted disk. Thus they cannot be tampered with by e.g. removing the disk etc. Installing shim means adding someone else trust, which I don't accept. I'm not sure what "don't support secure boot without shim" means, but I don't think that can or should be true. It doesn't support booting the Microsoft signed keys w/o shim, but, its certainly legal to remove the Microsoft keys from the BIOS and still use secureboot. as for the check_signatures=no, I'm ok if that is removed as a feature I guess, but it would need to be removed from the documentation. In my case its not a reduction in security (since you cannot change the grub.cfg w/o having the trust chain anyway). so tldr: * no, shim is not required to support secureboot * yes, you can self sign securely * no, merely having an option in grub.cfg or grub cmdline to disable subsequent checks need not reduce the security, as long as it is gated by being in a signed initramfs (and grub password is as strong as bios password) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1890672 Title: secure boot fails after upgrade to grub2-common 2.04-1ubuntu26.2 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1890672/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1886016] [NEW] OEM mode - and beyond
Public bug reported: As suggested here - https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+question/691633 - I'm putting this as a bug report, even though it's mainly a Feature request. Not copying user settings to /etc/skel and not configuring /etc/fstab on the new user installed are bugs, though, even for the intended use. I've been experimenting with Ubiquity's OEM installation (on neon User). What I was trying to achieve was: · Install neon on a test system. · Customise it to my liking · Make a tarball of it that I could send to my customers, friends and relations - so they could install it as such. What I managed to achieve was: . Install it (in OEM mode) · Boot it and customise it (even though it did not copy the personal settings to /etc/skel · Successfully copy the OEM install (prepared for "shipping") to another partition and boot it. After "minimal setup" on the final install, the newly created user's settings disappeared. All installed apps were there, but not configured. Copying the settings to /etc/skel before "shipping" worked. Why the installer doesn't do that to start with is a bit... mysterious. What I could not achieve was: · Copy the install partition to a different machine and boot it successfully. Boot fails with multiple hardware issues. Since the (let's call it) mini-installer at first boot does say "configuring hardware", I was hoping the first boot itself would be somewhat "hardware-agnostic" - like the ISO boot is. It isn't. I was hoping someone on this team would want to look into making a "universal OEM-mode installer" feature. Which I believe would open a world of possibilities for Linux installs - not least of which finally creating an option to install it without "live media" - or rather obscure and failure-prone grub-ISO-booting - which IMO should definitely be available. ** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: feature request -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1886016 Title: OEM mode - and beyond To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1886016/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1877217] Re: Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200 [8086:2723] Subsystem [1a56:1653] Performance slow/unusable after upgrade from 19.10 -> 20.04
To the second question - yes, per the askubuntu link, I executed `sudo apt remove backport-iwlwifi-dkms`. After I did that, wifi seemed to work normally. I should note that the output of `lspci -nnk` is from after executing the remove command. Would it help to re-install the backported driver, and execute both the lspci command and the journalctl command you've asked for? Or is it sufficient to get the output after removal of the backported driver? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1877217 Title: Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200 [8086:2723] Subsystem [1a56:1653] Performance slow/unusable after upgrade from 19.10 -> 20.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/backport-iwlwifi-dkms/+bug/1877217/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1877217] [NEW] WiFi Performance slow/unusable after upgrade from 19.10 -> 20.04
Public bug reported: Per instruction in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/backport- iwlwifi-dkms/+bug/1869587/comments/10, I am filing a separate bug that is probably related to #1869587. [Bug 1842785] [NEW] Freeze after waking up from suspend on a Ryzen 3000 based system
Public bug reported: My system is a newly build Ryzen 3600 based system with Vega 56 graphics. On suspend wakeup, the entire system locks up. A workaround is booting with linux kernel version 4.19.69. Using newer linux versions (5.3-rc7) did not fix the issue. The motherboard is an MSI B450I gaming plus ac board; I've loaded up both the official non-beta BIOS (7A40vA8) and the newest beta BIOS (7A40vA91) and both have this issue. No dmesg logs are available after the suspend wakeup (last message is putting the system to sleep) I have a r8169 and iwlwifi based ethernet and wifi cards, but I've tentatively isolated that those two are not an issue by blacklisting the respective modules. [Bug 1809682] Re: "systemctl enable corosync-qdevice.service" fails
Attached debdiff, based on corosync (2.4.3-0ubuntu1) for Ubuntu 18.04/bionic removes the debian/corosync-qdevice.init script from the package. If already installed previously, it removes the /etc/init.d /corosync-qdevice script through the corosync-qdevice.postinst script upon package upgrade. I also tried to reproduce the issue on Debian 9.7.0: On Debian the package also includes and installs the same script. However on Debian systemctl prefers to use systemd service definitions instead of the init scripts, therefore the issue doesn't occur on Debian. I would like to kindly ask a sponsor to review the patch and let me know which changes would be required to get it accepted. Thank you very much in advance. ** Patch added: "bionic-fix-for-corosync-qdevice-lp1809682.debdiff" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/corosync/+bug/1809682/+attachment/5236919/+files/bionic-fix-for-corosync-qdevice-lp1809682.debdiff -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1809682 Title: "systemctl enable corosync-qdevice.service" fails To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/corosync/+bug/1809682/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1666203] Re: pam_tty_audit failed in pam_open_session
Thank you both very much for the responses. Toru: I just tested this on another 16.04 system (now with kernel 4.4.0-142-generic) and was unable to reproduce the issue there also. I was able to reproduce the issue on both Bionic systems I tested however. So there seems to be a difference between Xenial and Bionic. Patrik: I believe LTS patches are required to be as minimal as possible to minimize regression risk. It appears that the bug is resolved without the change you mentioned. I looked at the code quickly and couldn't determine whether this change is strictly necessary as the variable that is initialized doesn't seem to be used within the module itself. Should you disagree, then please report back. I would like to ask a sponsor to review the debdiff and give feedback about what changes are desired to get the patch accepted. I will then also test the disco release. [Bug 1766555] Re: openscad package missing from 18.04
it "failed to build", but in the link they say it ran out of virtual memory on their MIPS architecture build. i would guess what happened is that gcc on their build machine ran out of memory, on the file cgalutils.cc . It is actually pretty normal to have memory issues when building OpenSCAD on the files that use CGAL intensively. That is because CGAL (geometry library, www.cgal.org ) is a massive c++ template library which can use at least 1 Gigabytes of ram, during compile time (not run time), for some of its functionality, depending on optimizations and debug symbol options on the compiler. it can go higher with various extra options added to the compiler switches, like -O2 -g. Here is the log showing they crashed at cgalutils.cc: https://buildd.debian.org/status/fetch.php?pkg=openscad=mips=2015.03-2%2Bdfsg-2%2Bb3=1516824703=0 What they also did was to use parallell make. You can see they have 'make -j4' right there on the log. So they were trying to build multiple files at once, alongside the massive CGAL file. That is going to also use more memory than necessary. Also it seems to be using gcc... clang uses a lot less memory than gcc. i am trying to figure out how much ram + swap they would have had on their mips build machine, but i am not sure how to figure that out. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1766555 Title: openscad package missing from 18.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openscad/+bug/1766555/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1741447] Re: Unity / Compiz in a crash loop after login, after mesa updates of 2018-01-04
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1735594 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1735594 This bug, or what I believe to be this bug and not 1735594, cropped up for me in an update on July 24, 2018 to kernel 4.4.0-131. Have spent the last week + searching the web and residing trying to figure things out and have landed here. I am running Ubuntu 16.04 LTS on an old Acer Extensa 4420 with AMDS TK-57 processor and on board Nvidia 1250 video. System boots into login screen just fine, but any attempt to Login, either Gnome or Ubuntu gets me to a wallpaper only with a mouse cursor. Messages flash up on the screen but do not stay long enough for me to interact with them. Initially one of the said Compiz crashed, but after the first reboot (holding the power switch down), that message no longer appears. I can boot into Grub and duplicate issue with any of the 7 older kernels I have. Can drop to system prompt from GRUB but am too inexperience to know what to do then. This is being posted form another computer running Windows as laptop is currently unusable, and after many years of reliable Ubuntu service. Please help. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1741447 Title: Unity / Compiz in a crash loop after login, after mesa updates of 2018-01-04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mesa/+bug/1741447/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1783861] Re: USB Printer not recognized by Ubuntu 18.04
Solved! A few days ago I unplugged and reinserted it at both ends but still couldn't print. However, after making man software changes and still not printing, I unplugged the USB cable, flexed it at both ends, and reinserted it and Ubuntu immediately detected the printer, warned about drivers, and HP Device Mgr can print a great test page. Please note that the HPLIP that comes with Ubuntu 18.04 is missing dependencies and will not work without changes. [Bug 1783861] [NEW] USB Printer not recognized by Ubuntu 18.04
Public bug reported: This printer worked great prior to Ubuntu 18.04. Days of repeated fresh ubuntu 18.04 installs and trying stock hplip, removing and reinstalling it, removing it (all with pkg mgr), downloading and running latest HPLIP script, the printer is not seen by USB (it is on, power switch blinks, USB cable installed, tried different USB ports. PC is brand new. lsusb does not show printer. ls -l /dev/usb/lp* /dev/bus/usb/*/* says '/dev/usb/lp*': No such file or dir. sudo usb_printerid /dev/usb/lp0 says can't open '/dev/usb/lp0'. hp-info -i says HP Linux Imaging and Printing System (ver. 3.18.6) Device Information Utility ver. 5.2 error: No device found that support this feature. I've installed HPLIP many times with ubuntu 17 and older ones with very little trouble. I tried installing HPLIP without AppArmor and with it, but didn't matter. [Bug 1754084] Re: Freecad crashes at start
See also https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=890882 I just recompiled from upstream git repo, and same problem. (w/ X11) I did: $ lxc launch images:ubuntu/bionic/amd64 b to get a fresh system, and followed the build instructions from https://www.freecadweb.org/wiki/CompileOnUnix I used instructions from https://blog.simos.info/how-to-run-graphics- accelerated-gui-apps-in-lxd-containers-on-your-ubuntu-desktop/ to get an lxc image that has accelerated X11 access, glxinfo and xclock run ok. I tried adding XInitThreads() into main() before Gui::Application::runApplication(), but no change. [Bug 1752384] [NEW] Ubuntu 16.04.3-Desktop-i386 install FAIL
Public bug reported: I installed from 64GB USB flash drive using the Ubuntu 16.04.3-Desktop-i386.iso using your recommended Windows flash app. I was trying to install on my Windows 7 Pro SATA 120GB SSD which had 60+ GB free. Installer suggested partitioning this 120GB into ~90GB Windows 7 and ~30GB Ubuntu. Installer crashed after running for a while... No idea why. 8-( Ubuntu runs on this 64GB flash drive but runs out of disk space when Ubuntu Updates run... I think because Ubuntu only creates a 2.8GB partition for Ubuntu "Demo" on this flash drive? [Bug 1693521] Re: brcmfmac: Direct firmware load failed
Not sure if it is a fix per se but it appears to just be looking for the presence of a .txt file by that name. I created brcmfmac43602-pcie.txt in the proper directory and just typed gibberish into it. I rebooted, re-ran 'dmesg | grep error', and found that the error is gone. Bluetooth seems to work just fine. Or at least my bluetooth mouse is connecting and working correctly. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1693521 Title: brcmfmac: Direct firmware load failed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-hwe/+bug/1693521/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
