[Bug 1521709] [NEW] Xorg freeze - Nvidia driver after kernel update
Public bug reported: My work around is: keep my PC on top of a work table beside my workstation to facilitate video card switching.. to remove it and install an AMD Radeon HD5450 which will boot and switch to nouveau with the new hardware discovery. Older boot attempts in the syslog file indicate to my limited view the Nvidia driver has no authority to access it's own files after kernel update an hour and a half ago. The root cause.. not really Xorg, ...go figure. Before the update I was thinking.. should I switch to nouveau for the update. Nahhh they fixed that nvidia driver kernel bug. It actually was for a while. Ubuntu 14.04 Nvidia GTX 460, old iron. This is an observation.. not an assertion of any kind. This is the second time in a row that I haven't seen the 331 bug. I did a partial uninstall (some stranded packages left over) of KVM on my previous iteration of 14.04 and didn't see the bug on a subsequent kernel update. Subsequent to *that*, (due to my own errors with BIOS SATA DVD configs) I had to re-install 14.04.01 Ubuntu. It was without KVM since I don't need it now. After that, I didn't see the the 331 errors with this latest kernel update either. [Bug 1362957] [NEW] nvidia-331 331.38-0ubuntu7.1: nvidia-331 kernel module failed to build
Public bug reported: new kernel install blows nvidia-graphics-drivers-331 This is a duplicate, easier to document this way. After two restart attempts that resulted in error messages leading to a black screen with a blinking cursor I did a cold boot and the sytem recovered to load the nvidia driver. Upon that boot, system error was detected again and led to this error report. This is the.. fourth kernel update that has had these anomalies. Luckily it's not getting worse. It appears to be very repeatable. [Bug 1357029] Re: nvidia-331-uvm 331.38-0ubuntu7.1: nvidia-331-uvm kernel module failed to build
with the last three or four kernel updates this error occured each time. For each upgrade system error occurs during the kernel install. Subsequently it occures once on the first reboot after the kernel update. Afterward, the video driver works fine and no complaints from the kernel. On the second instance, however, the boot failed with some message (paraphrased) like video card not initialized. Subsequently reboot attempts and bios visits with no changes made, eventually resulted in X picking the driver and booting up. There was some 'zero' hex data in the log files..maybe 50 or so bytes. [Bug 534799] Re: Insufficient visual differentiation between focused and non-focused windows
I'm seeing this on my x100E Thinkpad with 64 bit Ubuntu. I'm forever typing my password into application windows rather than the password prompt.. two bugs.. password window doesn't make it to the top and there is no color differentiation for the active window. Usually I interpret this behaviour of password windows not making it to the foreground as an indicator of high risk of the presence of a trojan or other malware in a non-displayed foreground window.. if there is such a thing. There are other risks associated.. such as risk of commands entered and executed in the wrong window.. that could be fatal. I'll take some screenshots later this week if time permits. I would support increasing the priority of resolving this 'bug' of not being able to see which window is active. I'm using the (..) red wine background with black frame/header and the window controls on the top left side interface. -- Insufficient visual differentiation between focused and non-focused windows https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/534799 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 473334] Re: package virtualbox-ose-guest-source 3.0.8-dfsg-1ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Summarizing.. running the generic kernel.. with 4GB installed 3GB visible, observe: choppy sound in virtualbox XP under Ubuntu 9.10 just after upgrade. In order to install the alsa backports pkg I chose to install a kernel backports package. I chose the kernel image-pae backports just because of something stated in some forum somewhere that it was beneficial w.r.t audio.. though that's questionable. So.. Installed generic-image-pae Reinstall of virtualbox choked with kernel headers not found. Installed the generic-pae pkg and its associated headers pkg. This cleared the virtual-box glitch for missing headers. Noticed in synaptic that the kernel image-pae headers hadn't been installed. Installed them and the alsa backports at the same time. Reinstalled virtualbox again, went to the virtualboxmachinedetails tab and clicked Audio, selected pulseaudio and now audio works fine in the virtualbox XP box. I think the 4 GB and the pae (physical address extension) have nothing to do with the choppy audio. Generic kernel backports and headers would probably have worked to solve that. I did stumble over the header files not coming along with the pae kernel-generic and kernel-generic-image pkgs. My user error was installing the pae backports while the base package for pae hadn't been installed yet, or maybe it was that the headers didin't come down automatically with those packages and had to be manually selected and installed using synaptic. Whatever.. it works now. -- package virtualbox-ose-guest-source 3.0.8-dfsg-1ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/473334 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 396296] [NEW] HPLIP Align: 'Next' button missing
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: hplip Ubuntu 9.04 i386 HPLIP Software Version 3.9.4 Ubuntu 9.04 Device Manager Version 15.0 (Qt4) HPLIP GUI 3.9.4 HP Deskjet 842C, USB attached. Software is accessed as follows: HPLIP GUI opened via: System -- Preferences -- HPLIP Toolbox GUI opens ok. Select: Actions -- Align Cartridges (Print Heads) What Happened: Step 6 of 6 is where you enter the alignment codes and finally click the 'Align' button. That works very well. .. but in the following panel: some glitches. Glitch1: It is numbered 'Step 7 of 6'. Glitch2: The panel prompts: Please load plain paper in the printer and then click Next to continue. However, there is no Next button available on the panel. Only the 'Align' and 'Cancel' buttons are available, 'Back' button greyed out. Then, clicking the Align button (left over from the previous panel?) immediately ends the dialogue with no messages and the printer prints out a final alignment page. The process was successful I assume. I'm very pleased that my printer is supported. Thank you for your time and efforts!! ** Affects: hplip (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- HPLIP Align: 'Next' button missing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/396296 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
