At present, you must reformat system partitions (e.g. /, /boot, /usr, or /var) during installation; the fact that the partitioner doesn't warn you about this is also bug 47046, and is fixed in 6.06.1. If you are upgrading an existing installation, then please see http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DapperUpgrades rather than using this installer. The fact that grub didn't work with Windows XP is also a bug and should be reported. Can you please try reinstalling (with the 6.06.1 version) and if grub doesn't get configured correctly, file a bug report ? [Bug 61748] Re: Installation crashing
Thnx for the email I was trying to re install Ubuntu Linux 6.06 on the same existing OS as GRUB would not work on dual boot of Windows Xp & ULinux DDrake I had accidentaslly erased my partitions. Recovered them with Test disk utility. The partitions would work if Windows installation CD was in the drive. When I tried to fix this with "fixmbr", GRUB was gone , not working even after a lot of editing. I recovered my data files in Ubuntu with PCLinuxOS. Tried to re install the ULinux on same old "/" & "swap partition" (without formatting; in an attemp to keep the old installation), but the installation would crash (three times). So I reinstalled ULinux on same partitions by keeping the FORMATTING options on the two.
