[Bug 1349144] [NEW] Linux doesn't detect my USB 3.0 hard disk
Public bug reported: I'm trying to connect my 4TiB USB 3.0 external hard disk to my laptop via the only USB 3.0 port it has and it doesn't work. Nothing happens. [Bug 1072518] Re: Restart networking crashes dbus and the desktop manager
Now you got a broken system. How can I bring down all interfaces at once now? If I have network-manager enabled is nm who controls the interfaces and the ifup/ifdown scripts don't to their work. Now I have to take my hands out of the keyboard to move the mouse to the up right corner of the screen. And you call this GNU/Linux for humans. [Bug 1327553] [NEW] MediaTomb enters endless loop of crashing if permission to directory denied

I commented those directories out of the config files and mediatomb is working well now. As the version number is the same on both Ubuntu 13.10 and 14.04 maybe the problem is related to the Linux kernel and the inotify system. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1327553 Title: MediaTomb enters endless loop of crashing if permission to directory denied To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mediatomb/+bug/1327553/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 1247584] Re: [keymap] Since upgrade to Ubuntu 13.10, udev doesn't map middle mouse button.
Ok, first of all, the keymap which I had stored in /lib/udev/keymaps in a file named logitech-t400 is like follows: 0x700E3 0x112 And here is my old udev rule which used the keymap program: ACTION==remove, GOTO=mouse_end KERNEL!=event*, GOTO=mouse_end ENV{ID_INPUT_KEY}==, GOTO=mouse_end SUBSYSTEMS==bluetooth, GOTO=mouse_end SUBSYSTEMS==usb, IMPORT{builtin}=usb_id SUBSYSTEMS==usb, GOTO=mouse_usbcheck LABEL=mouse_usbcheck SUBSYSTEM==input, ENV{ID_VENDOR}==Logitech*, ATTRS{name}==Logitech Unifying Device*, RUN+=keymap $name logitech-t400 LABEL=mouse_end LABEL=mouse_modulecheck 2013/11/4 Martin Pitt martin.p...@ubuntu.com It might be best if you could just copypaste the old udev rule which called keymap? The code there wasn't really different, so I wonder how using a key code worked back then. ** Changed in: systemd (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1247584 Title: [keymap] Since upgrade to Ubuntu 13.10, udev doesn't map middle mouse button. The problem is that while I'm connected I can't identify the network the modem is connected to because the name of the connection profile is shown instead. That's a problem when I go out on vacation because I'm on the frontier of my country and at any time the modem can hook up to an international network without notifying me and without being able to check which network I'm connected to. As there's no SMS support on NetworkManager I can't read SMS notifying me that I'm on an international network, or that I've reached my limit of international traffic (affecting my national plan too). I've attached an screenshot showing that NM applet can display the operator's network name. It should also notify with a notify-osd alert whenever it changes the network which it's connected to. There should be SMS arrival notifications too, and being able to read the messages. Finally, there should be the option to connect only to your national operator network. Of course you can deal with your mobile Internet provider, but then you have to call for support every time you want or not international roaming. [Bug 876087] Re: NetworkManager doesn't work properly with Virtual Mobile Operators
I own an Android mobile phone that isn't provided by my operator and it works fine. It's an international Samsung Galaxy S2 (GT-i9100). [Bug 1023529] [NEW] Firefox's configured search engines overwritten after upgrade
Public bug reported: After every upgrade I lose my configured search engines and there are new engines I never configured to be there, or my configured engines are out of order along with the new engines. [Bug 908649] [NEW] Pink bar and disappearing background just after GRUB menu or after turning on screen after inactivity period
Public bug reported: As the title says, I'm having a strange behaviour that appears randomly. Sometimes it happens just after passing the GRUB menu and I have to turn off computer or reboot with Ctrl + Alt + Del various times in a row until it decides to load the graphics card correctly. It also happens when the screen turns on after having turned off due to inactivity. If after some time I try to wake up the screen by moving the mouse or pressing a key on the keyboard, the same pink bar and colour degradation appears. The system is working perfectly as I can type my password, still listen sound and reboot by pressing menus as I can remember them, it's just that the framebuffer gets corrupted. I have attached a video (MKV container, encoded with H.264 for video and MP3 for audio) of this event when it occurs just after the GRUB menu. It's always the same pink/blue bar and that background degradation, doesn't matter if it's at boot time or trying to continue my open session. My laptop is an ASUS N53SN and has an Intel Core i7 2630QM (Sandy Bridge) with an NVIDIA GT550M that I have disabled by blacklisting the nouveau module. This bug was showing before doing that anyways so it doesn't matter. Just for more indications, this laptop has a LED to tell which card is supposed to be running. If the LED is blue it's running the Intel integrated card, but if it's white then it's the NVIDIA GT500M which is supposed to be working. The LED is always white, something that for me does not have any logic because I have disabled any modules that have something to do with the NVIDIA GPU. I've even issued the Ironhide commands to disable the card and that LED maintains it's white color. I just say it because maybe it's related, although it just maybe an ACPI or WMI problem. [Bug 908387] [NEW] Module aesni_intel not being loaded before mounting LVM2 stacked on LUKS
Public bug reported: Hi, I've made an installation of Ubuntu 11.10 on a system with AES-NI instructions only to find that the aesni_intel module is not being loaded before mounting the root file system, leaving the system with software encryption instead of using the hardware capabilities. The problem I think it's due to the modules not existing on the initramfs. Naturally, aes_x86_64 and cryptd modules aren't loaded too. Having the kernel compiled with options CONFIG_CRYPTO_AES=y CONFIG_CRYPTO_AES_X86_64=y CONFIG_CRYPTO_AES_NI_INTEL=y instead of CONFIG_CRYPTO_AES=y CONFIG_CRYPTO_AES_X86_64=m CONFIG_CRYPTO_AES_NI_INTEL=m as it appears on config-3.0.0-14-generic in the /boot directory should be OK too. [Bug 876087] Re: NetworkManager does not show WWAN network name
I've added a mockup of how NM applet should behave in order to have the user well informed. I'd like to add that I'm on a Mobile virtual network operator http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_mobile_operator so that even I'm connected with my national operator, NM applet shows information as if I'm on roaming. NM applet should be able to note wether you are on national roaming or international roaming. Due to that, the option for disabling roaming is useless if it can't let you fine tune the networks you want to use. Sometimes you want to use other international networks different from the default one. Being able to know to what network are you connected is very important. It's like in Wi-Fi, I would not accept NM applet to show only the name of a profile and let it change between wireless networks at his own will. ** Attachment added: nmapplet-mockup.png https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager-applet/+bug/876087/+attachment/2552211/+files/nmapplet-mockup.png ** Summary changed: - NetworkManager does not show WWAN network name + NetworkManager doesn't work properly with Virtual Mobile Operators -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/876087 Title: NetworkManager doesn't work properly with Virtual Mobile Operators To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager-applet/+bug/876087/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 876087] [NEW] NetworkManager doesn't work properly with Virtual Mobile Operators
Public bug reported: I'm using a 3G WWAN modem, Huawei E270 which uses the Option kernel module. The problem is that while I'm connected I can't identify the network the modem is connected to because the name of the connection profile is shown instead. That's a problem when I go out on vacation because I'm on the frontier of my country and at any time the modem can hook up to an international network without notifying me and without being able to check to which network I'm connected. As there's no SMS support on NetworkManager I can't read SMS notifying me that I'm on an international network, or that I've reached my limit of international traffic (affecting my national plan too). So, using my 3G connection I feel like a blind person going out to the street without any help (stick, dog - SMS, network information). Instead of showing the name of the profile used, NM should display the operator network name, something that can actually do. I've attached an screenshot showing that NM applet can display the operator's network name. It should also notify with a notify-osd alert whenever it changes the network to which it's connected. There should be SMS arrival notifications too, and being able to read the messages. Finally, there should be the option to connect only to your national operator network. Of course you can deal with your mobile Internet provider, but then you have to call for support every time you want or not international roaming. It's better being able to select which network operator you want to connect to, national or an allowed international one if there's more than one to choose from, just like a phone. ** Affects: network-manager-applet (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/876087 Title: NetworkManager doesn't work properly with Virtual Mobile Operators To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager-applet/+bug/876087/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 833232] Re: NetworkManager does not show WWAN network name
I think you did not understand my bug description. The name of the network when connected is always shown as the established connection, because realistically that's what you want to know if you have multiple providers: are you connected to the right one? And if not, allow you to change that. The name of the network is not shown. What is shown is the profile used to connect to the WWAN, and the name of the profile is not attached to a determinated Operator Network. When disconnected, the menu shows you the current activation state of the modem, which allows you to see what network it would most likely connect to if you're outside of your standard provider area. This doesn't mean you're connected, just that it's what we're getting the signal from, at this current point in time. I didn't mean that I was connected. By the way, that's what the nm-applet should show, not the network profile as I have stated before. By not showing the Operator Network you can't know wether you are using an international network or not. Finally, the parens at the end of the name show you the current speed at which the connection is established (UMTS, HSDPA, etc), and whether it's roaming or not. If it's roaming, then it's likely a good indication that your provider is not reachable. You can furthermore edit the connection preferences and click a checkbox that will tell NM to not connect to a specific connection if it's in roaming. If I check that option then the WWAN does not work. If the Operator Network is national or international does not matter, the WWAN is always considered as roaming, and there are two types of roaming: national roaming and international roaming. For instance, the Operator Network shown on the screenshot I've post is my national Operator Network, Orange Spain, so that UMTS Roaming does not mean International Roaming, it's just saying that's a roaming (WWAN) connection. The same goes for the profile name Simyo/Blau Predeterminado. That UMTS Roaming is saying in that case that I'm on a national roaming network. To add to this, you may be interested to know that notifications about roaming status have been added in nm-applet and will be available in Oneiric. SMS support is planned, but not yet available. That's good to know. Since everything appears to be there to allow you to safely connect to the right provider and avoid large roaming charges, I'm closing this bug as Invalid. No, that's incorrect. I can't know to what provider I'm connecting in reality. I only know which profile I'm using for connecting but nothing about the actual Operator Network is shown, only when you are disconnected as I've shown on my previous screenshot. For an informational purpose, I've added a mockup of what nm-applet should show. This bug is not invalid and its status should be changed again. ** Attachment added: nmapplet-mockup.png https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager-applet/+bug/833232/+attachment/2399364/+files/nmapplet-mockup.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/833232 Title: NetworkManager does not show WWAN network name To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager-applet/+bug/833232/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 207103] Re: amulegui doesn't start
After upgrading from Gutsy to Hardy I also get this error every time I try to start aMule using the comand amule. My architecture is AMD64. I'm adding two attachments: the ldd output and the dpkg -l output. The output of ldd is in reference to /usr/bin/amule, because amulegui does not exist. ** Attachment added: ldd-amule.txt http://launchpadlibrarian.net/15533078/ldd-amule.txt -- amulegui doesn't start https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/207103 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 164955] Re: [gutsy] network-admin does not update WPA PSK
I think this should have been fixed by now, ok, it's not very important because not many people configure its wireless LAN manually... but for the ones who do it, it's very annoying having to retype your WPA passphrase every time you boot Ubuntu (it also means having to type your sudo password TWO times, now because of the Policy Kit, every time you boot the OS), and of course, the issue with the ESSID string which has to be written between commas in order to get correctly recognised the blank spaces is another annoying bug. Oh, I'm not blaming anyone, hehe :-) (reading my comment again seems as if I'm blaming everybody here haha). -- [gutsy] network-admin does not update WPA PSK https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/164955 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 205548] [NEW] [hardy] x-server falls back to low resolution
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I'm using Ubuntu Hardy Heron Beta updated to the latest packages. Don't know why, but at firsts boots it detected the screen resolution flawlessly, but today, after rebooting the computer it falled back to 640x480 resolution. Restarting the X server did not work. I had to manually change the monitor type with the Screens and Graphics tool (Applications-System Tools-Screens and Graphics) to my correct LCD panel type, the Plug 'n' Play monitor seems to don't work any longer. [Bug 205548] Re: [hardy] x-server falls back to low resolution
Ok... I know what happened. While trying different screen configurations, I opened the Screen and Graphics tool, and by simply changing the refresh rate, it writes a modeline of [EMAIL PROTECTED] in the monitor and screen sections of the xorg.conf... to correct it, I had to change it to a specific monitor type (LCD 1680x1050) so it would change also the Modelname of the Configured Monitor, being unable to change back to the Plug 'n' Play monitor, obviously because that monitor is no longer described in the xorg.conf due to the changes made by the Screens and Graphics utility itself. By simply restoring the original xorg.conf for dynamic configuration, the xserver works correctly again. That Screens and Graphics utility is a mess for the current way in which xorg is being configured and used. -- [hardy] x-server falls back to low resolution https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/205548 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 205136] [NEW] network manager manual configuration needs commas for ESSID with blank spaces
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools In manual configuration, if you put the wireless network's ESSID (which contains blank spaces) without commas, the WPA-Key is not obtained correctly. For example, if the ESSID is My Wireless Network and the pass phrase is mypassword (without the commas), and you put it directly on the ESSID and pass phrase fields, the resulting wpa key is not obtained correctly. In order to get the correct wpa key and thus connect to the network, you must write the ESSID with the commas so it recognizes the full character string. I include an attachment with a screenshot showing an ESSID with blank spaces written with commas so the computer can connect to the network. I think this has an easy solution... ** Affects: gnome-system-tools (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- network manager manual configuration needs commas for ESSID with blank spaces https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/205136 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
