[Bug 189288] Re: Couldn't open display computer:/// Places Computer

2009-06-13 Thread Foaming Draught
Yep, same here. trying to open Computer or Places/Computer gives
the DBus Error etc. Karmic daily build 12 June 09, Ext 4. I've
reinstalled Nautilus and gvfs to no effect.

This bug has been live for over a year, covering several releases of
Ubuntu, and still hasn't been addressed. Whoever keeps closing the bug
reports as Fixed' obviously doesn't know how to Google.

[Bug 383468] Re: xorg segvaulting

2009-06-04 Thread Foaming Draught
My experience (Dell Optima 280GX with integrated Intel graphics) might
point to the same problem:

Since yesterday's (June 3) update, at screen idle (I've disabled it now
in Power Manager), and running a game, video or youtube full screen, I
get kicked out to the log-in screen.

[Bug 376786] Re: hal-storage-mount Segfaults

2009-05-23 Thread Foaming Draught
Now here's an interesting thing. I tried a Fedora 11 live CD (the USB
stick had always shown under Fedora 10), and couldn't mount the stick.
So I tried using Palimpsest (the Gnome disk utility which is standard in
Fedora 11), and hey presto, it identified that there was a mountable
disk under the stick's top level, mounted it, and there is my backed up
/Home.

I've installed Palimpsest into Karmic from Synaptic (perhaps it's gnome-
disk-utility if you want to use apt-get install), and bingo, I've got my
back up disk back.

[Bug 278468] Re: NetworkManager crashed with SIGSEGV when I connect a 3G mobile phone

2008-10-05 Thread Foaming Draught
** Description changed:

+ See update at bottom of frame.
+
+
  Binary package hint: network-manager

Intrepid Alpha 6 with all updates.

Mobile is a Samsung A411 which is reported as a Z100 and which I use as
a broadband modem with pon/poff in terminal.

I've never tried to use NM 0.7 to control it. NM recognised it when I
connected it to a USB port, and then disappeared from the Gnome panel,
triggering this bug report. But I'm still connected to my wireless
  router.

+ Update: nm-applet didn't restart the panel icon, neither did logging-out/in.
It re-appeared after a system re-start, and connecting the Samsung A411
brought up a dialogue which let me enter my service provider and connected me
straight onto Telstra 3G broadband via the Samsung mobile phone. Amazing stuff.
+
+ When I switched wireless back on while 3G was still connected, and
+ disconnected 3G, I couldn't connect to the Net until I re-identified my
+ particular SSID. I guess that's a feature, not a bug, but it isn't
+ inconvenient anyway.
