When connecting to VPN's Server, DNS server information gotten from Forti VPN

[Bug 1778087] Re: ELAN1200 touchpad jumps around and disconnects

2020-03-27 Thread Gaston Castro
Hi, as an update, on my ASUS-GL503VD the erratic behaviour disappeared
around 5.2.x but still disconnected from time to time. I'm on 5.3.7 now
and disconnecting remains.

I just use: 'modprobe -r i2c_hid' and 'modprobe i2c_hid' to restore it
and keep on going.

Thanks for the effort!

[Bug 1763977] Re: Sddm service fails in Bionic

2018-10-15 Thread Gaston M. Tonietti
Hi, can I know what's the status of this bug? I'm having exactly the
same problem trying 18.10 RC, which installs sddm 0.18.0ubuntu2, and
none of the workarounds described above solves the issue for me. Cheers.

[Bug 1778087] Re: ELAN1200 touchpad jumps around and disconnects

2018-06-25 Thread Gaston Castro
I'm on the exact same situation with my ASUS-GL503VD. I have tried with
the xorg synaptics touchpad driver (xserver-xorg-input-synaptics
package) but the erratic behavior remains. Also tried with i8042 and
acpi related kernel commands on the grub config as suggested on external
forums, apparently those kind of commands were successful on other elan
touchpads.

[Bug 1777679] Re: ELAN1200 touchpad not working at all with kernel 4.15+; Recognized as ITE 8910 keyboard

2018-06-23 Thread Gaston Castro
I also have an AsusGL503VD with an ELAN touchpad listed by xinput as:

ELAN1200:00 04F3:3090 Touchpad

I installed the kernel 4.17.2 by .deb packages availables on ppa ubuntu
kernel mainline (kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/).

The touchpad is detected but cursor freezes and jumps around randomly.
i2c-hid is listed on lsmod and I have tried with the xorg synaptics
touchpad driver (xserver-xorg-input-synaptics package) but the weird
behavior remains. Also tried with i8042 and acpi related kernel commands
on the grub config.

Are you getting completely clean operation? can you provide new
diagnostics files, like your lsmod output?

Re: [Bug 1720813] Re: while installing ubuntu

2017-10-14 Thread Gaston Tarasconi
Thank you very much for response,
I solved this by formating my hard disk with a gpt and also I installed
Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, the only problem is that i lost all my files in ubuntu
because i have my home folder crypted, i tried to recover my files with
parted magic but that folder i couldn't see, but nevermind it didn't have
much staff, so I learned not to crypte the home folder and tell my mum to
not turn off the computer

I have reported the bug upstream but I have no answer from the kernel
maintainers.
In the meantime my workaround was to install las kernel 4.1 from Ubuntu
Kernel Archive.

Cheers.

[Bug 1495458] Re: Black screen when resuming after sleep

2015-10-15 Thread Gaston M. Tonietti
Hi Christopher, would you mind to give me a hint on the email address?
I've already tried linux-pm at lists linux-foundation org and vger kernel org.
But neither of them work.

Thanks.
Gaston.

[Bug 1495458] Re: Black screen when resuming after sleep

2015-10-11 Thread Gaston M. Tonietti
More tests confirm that it's not Intel or graphics related.

I started in text mode using root console option from Ubuntu recovery,
then I removed Intel module i915, finally I suspended using pm-suspend
and I was not able to resume. Same bug. No DRM graphics driver module
loaded.

Should I fill a bug at Kernel's Bugzilla?

Thanks,
Gaston.

[Bug 1495458] Re: Black screen when resuming after sleep

2015-09-29 Thread Gaston M. Tonietti
Hi Christopher, is something in the debugging info I've uploaded telling
you the problem is related to the intel driver? As I said before the
very same problem is showed up using the nouveau driver.

Maybe I should try it again using nouveau driver together with the
latest kernel.

[Bug 1495458] Re: Black screen when resuming after sleep

2015-09-24 Thread Gaston M. Tonietti
I've tried suspending with pm-suspend, shutting the lid and pressing
the power button as both are set to suspend in power management
settings. And I tried resuming opening the lid and pressing the power
button.

All methods with the same result, the laptop is suspended but when I
want to resume the power light turns on but the screen is black and I
cannot connect over ssh either. So it's worse than a graphics related
issue.

Following the steps in DebuggingKernelSuspend page I was able to resume
after suspending with the command:

`sudo sh -c "sync && echo 1 > /sys/power/pm_trace && pm-suspend"`

WiFi wasn't enable after resuming but I was able to enable it manually .

I'm attaching my *wakeup* and *dmesg* as advised by the debugging guide.

[Bug 1495458] Re: Black screen when resuming after sleep

2015-09-19 Thread Gaston M. Tonietti
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected has-workaround reproducible single-
occurrence

** Description changed:

I have a fresh install of Kubuntu Wily Beta 1. My laptop is a Dell XPS
15 with a Nvidia video. I tried both drivers nouveau and nvidia with the
  same result.

I can reproduce the error ALWAYS, when I put the laptop to sleep it wont
resume, I can see the power light and the keyboard backlight turning on
as if it will wake up, but then just a black screen. I cannot even
switch to a terminal (Ctr+Alt+F1), the only solution it to restart.

The problem is not only when sleeping, it also happens when the screen
is turned off by Power Management.

[Bug 1495458] [NEW] Black screen when resuming after sleep

2015-09-14 Thread Gaston M. Tonietti
Public bug reported:

[Bug 1479913] Re: SRU request: fglrx.ko fails because of backported GPL-only 'pci_ignore_hotplug' symbol

2015-08-28 Thread Dan Gaston
I still seem to be having issues here. Did a fresh install of 14.04.3,
allowed updates during the install. Kernel is 3.19.0-26-generic and I
have fglrx 2:15.200-0ubuntu0.5. Still get flickering and erratic video
behaviour when I use chrome. Doesn't seem to do it when I open the dash
or am using firefox at full resolution, just chrome.

The workaround in #5 worked for me (Kubuntu 14.04, KDE 4.14.2). I guess
I'll have to remember to disable sub-pixel rendering before starting
GIMP :(

[Bug 1072120] Re: ~/.Xmodmap not read on login

2013-04-25 Thread Gaston la Gaffe
Hi,

I have no luck with all these workarounds:
 - xmodmap /home/kev/.Xmodmap in startup applications entry
 - bash-script with that call in startup applications entry
 - bash-script with that call after sleep 30 in startup applications entry
 - bash-script in 'pre-satart script' - part in /etc/init/read-xmod.conf ,
start on runlevels 235

bash-script or comand itself works fine when called in terminal

problem occured after upgrade from 12.04 to 12.10

Thanks for all ideas / workarounds

[Bug 999254] Re: dvd menu not displayed, blank screen

2012-05-17 Thread Gaston Bougie
I might have the same issue.
When selecting a movie which is a .ISO file, the movie starts fine and shows
the dvd-menu.
Then I choose to play the movie and the screen becomes black.
I can see the Denon audio receiver doesn't receive a HDMI signal anymore as it
shows the Denon logo.
The music is still playing.

When you press "tab" you get the xbmc bar on top of the movie, and you
can see the movie playing in the back. If you again go to full screen
again without the xbmc bar, the tv again becomes black.

When playing a .mkv file, the problem is not active.
When I play again the .ISO file I don't have the problem anymore.
I've noticed this issue a few times now.

Using xtreamer with OpenELEC_PVR Version: 1.95.3
connected to Denon 3310
connected to a Sony tv, which brand I will never buy again because of the
extreme clouding :(

[Bug 908769] [NEW] battery-status package does not work in 11.10

status_0.1.2~bzr32~oneiric1_all.deb), when I try to run it (battery-
status --indicator) I get the below error:

ImportError: No module named gnomeapplet

Any chance this can be fixed?

Thanks in advance,

Gaston

Hi Aliceinwire,

We are closing in on Oneiric release date, but it seems like nautilus-
actions is still at v3.1.2-1. Will this upgrade make it on time?

which seems to install in 11.04 and work all right as far as I could test.

Would it be possible to update this package in stable 11.04 (as described in

(Note: 10.10 uses nautilus-actions 2.3.2 which does not have this bug, so only
11.04 needs to be updated)

[Bug 789852] [NEW] Nautilus Actions version included in 11.04 is buggy: please upgrade to 3.1.2

2011-05-29 Thread Gaston DASSIEU-BLANCHET
Public bug reported:

Dear all,

Ubuntu 11.04 currently ships with Nautilus Actions version 3.0.5-1.
However, this version has some issues which have been solved by newer
versions. In particular, I have experienced this issue: http://mailman
.nautilus-actions.org/pipermail/users-list/2011-May/16.html, which
according to Nautilus Actions authors has been fixed in v3.1.2.

How to reproduce the issue in Ubuntu 11.04:
1) Install package nautilus-actions
2) Confirm installed version is 3.0.5-1
3) Create executable shell script /bin/show_params.sh with below contents:
#!/bin/bash
/usr/bin/zenity --info --text="$*"
4) Open Nautilus Actions Configuration, and create an action that runs the
command show_param.sh with parameters=%F
5) In Nautilus, right click a file with a space in the file name, and select
the action you created in step #4
6) In the popup dialog you will see that space is converted to "%20" (percent
20). As you can easily guess, applications expect to receive " " or "\ " when
there is a space, not "%20", so they give "file not found" errors.

Thanks in advance

Gaston

[Bug 624969] Re: Static App Switcher bring to front stucked

2011-02-18 Thread Gaston DASSIEU-BLANCHET
Same problem here in Maverick (10.10).

There are 3 possible settings for "Highlight mode" for Static Application
Switcher in CompizConfig manager:
- None
- Bring Selected To Front
- Show Rectangle

The problem is that when we chose "None" we expect it to do nothing, but
actually it is behaving in the same way as "Bring Selected to Front".

Cheers,

Gaston

Its a brand new installation of Ubuntu 10.04.1, 32-bit, english.

Although that in the Preferences, there are quite a few plug-ins

I attempted to disable a plug-in, then re-enabling it. No success.

I re-installed Tomboy from Synaptic. Still, no success.

Your email has reached the Technical Support Division for Notebooks. We

are unable to provide any information about any third party

queries. I suggest you to contact the software vendor for more
information on the same. I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. I
hope that you understand.

Seems like they think the problem is within GNU/Linux... How can we
prove it is not?

GREAT.!Mr Tetsuo__Shima!
I am very glad to have your right solution . My son , living in Doha
helped me also by phone because I am not an expert in computers and
I feared to make a wrong handling.
For an unqualilified 72 years retired , It was easy to put your
solution in operation.
The rest of the procedure has been easy.It works!!!
