[Bug 223609] [NEW] Upgrade Cheese to 2.23.1

2008-04-28 Thread Gene Hoffler
Public bug reported:

1. Hardy 8.04 x64 Final
2. Cheese 2.22.1-0ubuntu1
3. Ability to capture videos--stable performance
4. This version of Cheese is a regression in terms of performance and
stability compared to the Gutsy package. On both an MSI PR200/1221/Daru2 and
an HP Pavilion dv2000z, the video lags when dragging the program box. Then,
the program fails to record properly (i.e. freezing and not saving the video).
There are numerous bug reports already posted. Since 2.23.1 was released on 21
Apr, please consider packaging it for Hardy 8.04.1. I hope this will fix some
of these problems. This program is so cool with a great deal of potential.
Thanks.

This battery indicator problem does not appear present on Fedora 9

Re: [Bug 219508] Re: Upgrade Cheese to 2.22.1 in repository

2008-04-20 Thread Gene Hoffler
Thanks. However, the latest package doesn't seem to have fixed any of
my problems with either of my onboard laptop webcams. I have a Microdia
cam on an MSI PR200 and a Sonix cam on an HP dv2000z. Both programs
start up Cheese properly, but the video tears when dragging windows on
the PR200 (Intel X3100 chipset with desktop effects enabled). Video
can't be recorded. On the HP laptop, video doesn't lag when dragging
the window (Nvidia 6150SE graphics), but no video can be recorded. I've
posted bugs about each problem and will follow-up.

Tom at System76 support mentioned that the bug may be related to

On a separate note, I've also noticed that the video box lags behind the window

[Bug 209142] [NEW] Hardy Beta Installer Freezes at Removing Packages

2008-03-30 Thread Gene Hoffler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

On an HP dv2000z laptop, I attempted to install the Hardy Beta x86_64
alongside WinXP on an 80GB drive. I manually partitioned the hd
successfully, but the installer froze completely towards the end of the
installation at Removing Packages. After a hard shutdown, the
computer refused to boot back to the BIOS screen, so I removed the
primary battery for about 30 seconds. Then, it booted into a grub
terminal. I think WinXP partition is still on the hard drive someplace,
but the GRUB installation must have gotten corrupted. This is scary.

2008-03-30 Thread Gene Hoffler
I attempted to reinstall Hardy Beta again. This time the installation
completed successfully. However, after booting into ubuntu, the system
completely froze when downloading and installing updates through
synaptic. The laptop froze when installing ubuntu-docs...not sure if
the package has anything to do with the problem or not. Heat really
seems to be an issue; it wasn't this bad with Gutsy. Perhaps, this heat
is causing the laptop to have performance problems??? I hope not!

[Bug 204599] [NEW] NotesScreenlet.py crashed with NameExistsException in __new__()

2008-03-21 Thread Gene Hoffler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: screenlets

1. Hardy Beta
2. Screenlets .12
3. Screenlets functioning properly
4. Frequent crashing

Is there a global way to manage/control all screenlets? Or, does each
screenlets have to be setup individually (i.e. start at login, on
top/bottom, etc.)?

[Bug 190000] Re: g-p-m does not indicate battery state correctly + changing brightness to random values.

2008-03-21 Thread Gene Hoffler
On my MSI PR200/MSI-1221/Darter Ultra 2, the brightens changing (on its own)
bug appears to be fixed on Ubuntu Hardy Beta. However, the battery applet
G-P-M still gives some sporadic, whacky readings (i.e. plugged in when actually
running on battery, etc.) One step closer to a complete fix, but not quite
there. More info located here:

[Bug 204875] [NEW] Cheese can only record one video-no reset-video hangs

2008-03-21 Thread Gene Hoffler
Public bug reported:

1. Hardy Beta

Stop Recording to end recording
4. When I tap Stop Recording, the display video (preview) freezes. So, to
record another video, I have to restart Cheese. The laptop has Intel 965

[Bug 44626] Re: Can't Input Japanese Text

2007-12-31 Thread Gene Hoffler
I want to install Ubuntu in Japanese for my in-laws, so I messed around
with putting SCIM support on my English laptop to get a feel for it.
This HP laptop has Hardy Alpha 2 loaded on it, and I used this guide to
install SCIM support for Japanese:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SCIM#fndef-
adac221a6fc0e5ff7b3fc2457120b79733a8936b-1 It works amazingly well in
terminal, note/word pad, and even the terminal, but OpenOffice programs
won't even start. Obviously, there's a global settings compatibility
problem. If I install their entire system in Japanese, then I shouldn't
have this problem. However, I'd like to get it working on my Eng_US
setup first. Is this being worked on for final Hardy 8.04? Thanks!!!

2007-11-23 Thread Gene Hoffler
Problem confirmed as well on my HP dv2000z laptop with Ubuntu 7.10 final

[Bug 121833] Re: LCD backlight turns off between brightness levels during fades, and when on battery or at idle

2007-10-02 Thread Gene Hoffler
I can confirm this fn key brightness bug on my MSI 1221 laptop. Also,
I've found that gnome power manager cannot determine correctly if I'm on
battery or plugged in when I resume from hibernate. Are these issues
all related to gnome PM?

[Bug 76803] Re: Powermanga binary not setgid games

2007-06-26 Thread Gene Hoffler
When playing Powermanga in Feisty, I had very poor (slow) performance
when gDesklets and Compiz were running. From what I remember, Compiz
wasn't causing the slowdown...gDesklets had something to do with it.
Game play was fine after stopping the gDesklets daemon. Anyway, I
noticed that Powermanga skipped a level when playing. However, the
game did not crash.

[Bug 83067] Re: start-problem again iBook-G4, see dump

2007-06-25 Thread Gene Hoffler
I can't comment on WPA2 encryption, but WEP is working fine on my iBook G4.
I can confirm from DapperD's comments that the following lines (or something
very similar are generated on every boot up):

[ 90.663714 ] PCI cannot allocate resource region 0 of device
0001.10.18.0
[ 90.663516 ] PCI cannot allocate resource region 0 of device
0001.10.19.0

I've attached my kernel log. Sorry about it being hard to read. I
wasn't sure how to save it.

[Bug 41770] Re: gDesklets disables shift key

2007-06-07 Thread Gene Hoffler
Using Feisty Fawn, I have experienced this same problem on my ibook.
However, I did not know it's related to gDesklets being installed. When
using the command line, pressing Shift + lowercase does not produce an
uppercase or a symbol as it should. Even a reboot didn't solve this
annoying problem.

[Bug 46308] Re: edubuntu mouse pointer bad displayed

2007-03-14 Thread Gene Hoffler
I changed the color depth to 16bit in the xorg.conf file and rebooted.
This did not solve the problem. For a feature request, I previously
submitted an idea that the hardware detection process use the
information from the graphics card to determine what
compositing/rendering capabilities are possible. 16bit depth and slow
DRI are the only options for this ATI Rage Mobility P/M chip (from what
I've discovered).

[Bug 46308] Re: edubuntu mouse pointer bad displayed

2007-03-11 Thread Gene Hoffler
I remember this bug from Dapper Drake...thought it was fixed. Anyway,
it still exists in Edgy Eft. I'm attaching a screen shot from Linux
Mint Bea, which uses Ubuntu 6.10 as a code base. My laptop is a Fujitsu
FMV-Biblo LOOX. The tearing only occurs when I move the nipple
pointer up and to the left.

[Bug 34590] Re: DRI not Automatically Enabled for ATI Rage Mobility P/M - Mach64

2006-10-13 Thread Gene Hoffler
Edgy neither checks for video ram limits nor DRI combinations. The
default color depth is still 24 bits, so I must manually change it to
16. Also, I've heard that enabling DRI for the mach64 based ATI chips
doesn't work in Edgy. I will try to enable DRI tonight using the above
procedures and report back.

[Bug 25673] Re: Keyboard and touchpad doesn't work after suspend-to-ram on a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo M1420

2006-10-11 Thread Gene Hoffler
After suspending my Fujitsu LOOX subnotebook, the integrated stick-type
(nipple) pointing device does not re-initialize. However, after
plugging in a USB mouse, it functions again. I've been having this same
problem since Breezy. I am using Edgy Knot 3. Any fix anticipated?
Thanks.
