[Bug 1254032] [NEW] wrong position of window reported after switching workspaces
Public bug reported: After switching workspaces by using the mouse to click on applications, the pointer position reported is not correct which cause dropdown menus to be displayed at the wrong coordinates. Because workspace switching using the keyboard or the workspace switcher on the launcher works, I'll provide detailed instructions on how to reproduce this behavior. I also attached a sample tcl/tk program that shows this issue very well. You can execute this by installing `tcl8.5` and `tk8.5` and running `tclsh8.5 unity_bug.tcl`. Detailed instructions to reproduce behavior: 1. Open an application (eg firefox, chrome, thunderbird) in the top-left workspace. 2. Run the sample program I provided in the bottom right workspace. 3. Now click the file menu in the sample program, to see the position of this window relative to the top left corner of the workspace. 4. Now switch to the apllication in the top-left workspace by clicking that application in the launcher (do NOT use the workspace switcher icon or the keyboard) 5. switch back to the sample program by clicking the sample program in the launcher (again do NOT use the workspace switcher icon or the keyboard) 6. click the menu again, note that the position reported is the position of step 3 plus your screen resolution. Note that because of this the actual menu will show in the wrong place (bottom left corner of the workspace). After you drag the window, the behavior is correct again. NOTE that this is not a bug in tcl/tk! Open http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tryit.asp?filename=tryhtml_select in Chrome. Then switch workspaces by clicking a program in another workspace and switch back to chrome, the dropdown menu will not show up. Their are numerous reports on askubuntu, ubuntuforums and the xbmc forum which mention other playback problems related to XBMC (and other applications in full screen) having problems when compiz is running: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=116996&pid=1109069#pid1109069 http://askubuntu.com/questions/209460/xbmc-using-a-lot-of-cpu-when-fullscreen On the XBMC wiki (http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=XBMC_for_Linux_specific_FAQ#Compiz_is_not_compatible_with_XBMC) they state that you should tick the 'Undirect fullscreen' option in the composite plugin, or disable composite altogether. I believe the undirect fullscreen is enabled by default, so that didn't work, and disabling Composite will disable Opengl and parts of unity, and disabling opengl will in turn disable a lot of other plugins. [Bug 1179464] [NEW] Running in background should not be disabled when tray icon is disabled
Public bug reported: Originally reported on the clementine bug tracker but marked as invalid: https://code.google.com/p/clementine-player/issues/detail?id=3641 The version of Clementine in Ubuntu 12.04 (1.0.1) doesn't have this behavior/bug, and is working as desired. I am currently using Clementine 1.1.1 on Ubuntu 13.04. Go to Preferences -> Behavior, untick "Show tray icon", now the option for running in the background is grayed out. This doesn't need to happen in Ubuntu since we have the sound menu indicator, and I don't like the clutter of an extra tray icon. ** Affects: clementine (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1179464 Title: Running in background should not be disabled when tray icon is disabled To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/clementine/+bug/1179464/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1116280] [NEW] sound menu should properly handle play/pause/next/previous when multiple audio players are running
Public bug reported: This might not be an issue in `indicator-sound` but rather in how ubuntu handles mediakeys, if so please change the package accordingly. The issue is the following, I often have two audio applications open at the same time: clementine for my local music, nuvola player for grooveshark. Since I am not a good dj I have only one of them playing music, but now some funny things happen if you press the multimedia keys: - play/pause: pauses the one that is playing BUT starts playing on the one that is paused, so it toggles your audioplayers. I think desired behaviour should be that all are paused, or if both are already paused, the one that is paused last should start playing again. -previous: both start playing the previous song, EVEN the one that was paused, so two songs are now playing at the same time. The desired behavior is that only the one currently playing should play the previous song. ** Affects: indicator-sound (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1116280 Title: sound menu should properly handle play/pause/next/previous when multiple audio players are running To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/indicator-sound/+bug/1116280/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1082851] Re: Screen stays black after suspend with AMD Fusion APUs and fglrx driver
I installed kernel 3.7rc7 and I downloaded fglrx 12.10 from the amd website. I used this patch, http://catalyst.apocalypsus.net/files/arch-fglrx-3.7.patch, to patch it for the 3.7 kernel. Also version.h from the kernel needs to be symlinked to a different location (otherwise building dkms module fails): ln -s /usr/src/linux- headers-3.7.0-030700rc7-generic/include/generated/uapi/linux/version.h /usr/src/linux-headers-3.7.0-030700rc7-generic/include/linux/version.h After this fglrx installs fine, and suspend works like it is supposed to do. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1082851 Title: Screen stays black after suspend with AMD Fusion APUs and fglrx driver To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1082851/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1069353] Re: 1002:9802 graphics driver does not load on boot Radeon HD 6310
I tested both 3.2.27 and 3.2.28, and they don't have this problem. Also in the meantime I've updated my system to 3.2.0-33-generic and I don't have the problem anymore! To rule out that other updates caused this, I tried 3.2.0-31 again, it still had the problem. [Bug 1069353] Re: 1002:9802 graphics driver does not load on boot Radeon HD 6310
@Cristopher, I tested the lucid live and could not reproduce the problem. But in lucid my resolution was not supported because the E-350 is too new I guess. @madbiologist, my suspicion is that is a timing issue, which might explain the random occurance. Also if you follow the link in the problem description some people do experience this issue on kernels before 3.2.0-31. I think the workaround using the grub commandline also sort of hints to this... I'll give the upstream kernels a try. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1069353 Title: 1002:9802 graphics driver does not load on boot Radeon HD 6310 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1069353/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1069353] Re: 1002:9802 graphics driver does not load on boot Radeon HD 6310
I don't think lucid live has this problem, because I think at shutdown some state of the graphics is stored (see the reproduction steps, after I reset with REISUB, I can boot normally). But I tested on some previous kernels, and I think the issue is introduced in 3.2.0-31, the kernels before that one (tested on 27,29,30) didn't give any problems. Also the problem is still present in 12.10 ... [Bug 1069353] Re: graphics driver does not load on boot
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected precise running-unity ** Description changed: Quite regularly the graphics driver does not load on boot and I am stuck with a purple screen. Grub shows fine but when I select Ubuntu I get the purple screen. On a succesfull boot the purple screen disappears and I see the runscripts (I removed 'quiet splash' from the boot options'), but sometimes the screen merely flickers and stays purple. However the system is still responsive, I can use Alt+SysReq+REISUB to reboot and I can even ssh to my machine. My machine is a samsung-305u1 (with a AMD Fusion E-350) and I use the open source drivers. According to http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2012657 the problem can also occur on nvidia machines, and by typing the following commands in the grub commandline the system boots fine: test continue videoinfo normal Setting 'nomodeset' also seems to work but this boots my machine to unity 2d. The problem seems to occur quite randomly, but by doing the next steps I can reproduce the problem 4 out of 5 times: 1. Boot normally 2. Connect external monitor with larger resolution 3. Close the lid of the laptop ( i guess this turns of the laptop screen) 4. Shutdown 5. Remove the external monitor 6. open the lid and power on - Because I can ssh into the machine i can provide error logs, but I don't - know which ones to provide, so someone please point me in the right - direction... + Because I can ssh into the machine i can provide error logs, but I don't know which ones to provide, so someone please point me in the right direction... + --- + AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.24. + ApportVersion: 2.0.1-0ubuntu14 + Architecture: amd64 + ArecordDevices: + List of CAPTURE Hardware Devices + card 1: SB [HDA ATI SB], device 0: ALC269VB Analog [ALC269VB Analog] +Subdevices: 1/1 +Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 + AudioDevicesInUse: + USERPID ACCESS COMMAND + /dev/snd/controlC1: gerhard1664 F pulseaudio + /dev/snd/controlC0: gerhard1664 F pulseaudio + Card0.Amixer.info: + Card hw:0 'Generic'/'HD-Audio Generic at 0xfeb44000 irq 43' +Mixer name : 'ATI R6xx HDMI' +Components : 'HDA:1002aa01,00aa0100,00100200' +Controls : 6 +Simple ctrls : 1 + Card0.Amixer.values: + Simple mixer control 'IEC958',0 +Capabilities: pswitch pswitch-joined penum +Playback channels: Mono +Mono: Playback [on] + Card1.Amixer.info: + Card hw:1 'SB'/'HDA ATI SB at 0xfeb4 irq 16' +Mixer name : 'Realtek ALC269VB' +Components : 'HDA:10ec0269,144dc600,00100100' +Controls : 19 +Simple ctrls : 11 + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 + HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=a61a19a0-e46b-4166-ba49-6a56ed9a4673 + InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS "Precise Pangolin" - Release amd64 (20120425) + MachineType: SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD. 305U1A + Package: linux (not installed) + ProcEnviron: + TERM=xterm + PATH=(custom, no user) + LANG=en_US.UTF-8 + SHELL=/bin/bash + ProcFB: 0 radeondrmfb + ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.2.0-32-generic root=UUID=efa624b8-abed-4c31-a30e-08852678e504 ro + ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.2.0-32.51-generic 3.2.30 + RelatedPackageVersions: + linux-restricted-modules-3.2.0-32-generic N/A + linux-backports-modules-3.2.0-32-generic N/A + linux-firmware1.79.1 + Tags: precise running-unity + Uname: Linux 3.2.0-32-generic x86_64 + UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) + UserGroups: adm cdrom dip disk lpadmin plugdev sambashare sudo + dmi.bios.date: 07/29/2011 + dmi.bios.vendor: American Megatrends Inc. + dmi.bios.version: 01PS.M002.20110729.LEO + dmi.board.asset.tag: To be filled by O.E.M. + dmi.board.name: 305U1A/305U1A + dmi.board.vendor: SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD. + dmi.board.version: 01PS + dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Tag + dmi.chassis.type: 9 + dmi.chassis.vendor: SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD. + dmi.chassis.version: N/A + dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnAmericanMegatrendsInc.:bvr01PS.M002.20110729.LEO:bd07/29/2011:svnSAMSUNGELECTRONICSCO.,LTD.:pn305U1A:pvr01PS:rvnSAMSUNGELECTRONICSCO.,LTD.:rn305U1A/305U1A:rvr01PS:cvnSAMSUNGELECTRONICSCO.,LTD.:ct9:cvrN/A: + dmi.product.name: 305U1A + dmi.product.version: 01PS + dmi.sys.vendor: SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD. ** Attachment added: "AcpiTables.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1069353/+attachment/3407434/+files/AcpiTables.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1069353 Title: graphics driver does not load on boot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1069353/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 767975] Re: Screen stays black after suspend with AMD Fusion APUs and fglrx driver
tested it using kernel 3.5: suspend using the power button and then choosing suspend worked fine in most cases and was very fast (1 second to suspend, 1 second waking up). Suspending by closing the lid did not work in general, and would give the behavior as described above. It also took a lot longer (10 seconds to suspend). So there is improvement but it still doesn't work... ** Tags added: kernel-bug-exists-upstream ** Tags removed: kernel-request-3.0.0-12.20 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/767975 Title: Screen stays black after suspend with AMD Fusion APUs and fglrx driver To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/767975/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 828359] Re: Help strings for session related command line options not very informative
If you go for instance to items 25-27, you can see that the helpstrings for the commands are basically the commands themselves but without the dashes, this is not informative at all.
