Uninstalling laptop-mode tools seems to have fixed the problem, so I am
changing the package affected

[Bug 1452830] Re: Keyboard and mouse not working after update to 15.04

2015-08-08 Thread Grzegorz Galezowski
Hi, I haven't used Ubu for some time and now I am back and it seems I
was wrong in that the bug was fixed. It just started showing up less for
some time.

I dug into the problem and it seems that USB ports are being suspended.
I found that laptop-mode tools do this when one is on battery, but it
happened to me when I has AC connected (sometimes, and sometimes not).
Uninstalling laptop-mode tools seems to have fixed the problem.

2015-06-13 Thread Grzegorz Galezowski
This bug was fixed by some of the recent updates. Now my mouse and
keyboard both work fine. I saw linux firmware package being updated -
maybe this is what fixed it?

Anyway, I am fine now, thank you for your hard work!

[Bug 1401648] Re: Prime profiles stop working after upgrade to newer nvidia driver

2014-12-11 Thread Grzegorz Galezowski
I just noticed I am running kernel 3.13.0-24, but linux-
headers-3.13.0-24 are not in the respository... the latest version is
linux-headers-3.13.0-23...

When installing the nvidia driver, the install script complains it
cannot build the module because source for current kernel is not
installed.

Can this be the reason?

[Bug 1401648] [NEW] Prime profiles stop working after upgrade to newer nvidia driver

2014-12-11 Thread Grzegorz Galezowski
Public bug reported:

Hi!

Today I upgraded nvidia driver to nvidia 331.113 and nvidia does not
seem to work anymore. I have optimus mode laptop, so my Intel works
fine, but I cannot switch to NVidia using nvidia-settings. When I try,
the application asks me to log out and in again. If I do this, the
screen flickers and falls back to intel.

2014-05-03 Thread Grzegorz Galezowski
Thanks, the following helped:

1. sudo apt-get --purge remove bumblebee nvidia-331 bbswitch-dkms
2. sudo apt-get-install nvidia-331 bbswitch-dkms
3. Reboot.

Now I can use NVidia card!

[Bug 1309773] [NEW] Nameless error when switching to NVidia graphics card from Nvidia settings using PRIME profiles on Lenovo IdeaPad y580

2014-04-18 Thread Grzegorz Galezowski
Public bug reported:

Hello,

Y580 is an optimus laptop.

I have installed nvidia prime and are using binary driver 331.38.

I open NVidia settings and choose to switch from Intel card to NVidia
one. When I do so (and enter my password), I get an empty error message
box and the display gets back to Intel card.

The console prints just this:

"astral@Lenovo-IdeaPad-Y580:~$ nvidia-settings
** Message: PRIME: Requires offloading
** Message: PRIME: is it supported? yes

ERROR:

[Bug 1264114] Re: Wrong font and smoothing when Xorg started with vesa driver

2013-12-27 Thread Grzegorz Galezowski
I just looked at the screenshot I attached and it looks like the font on
the screenshot is alright. The screen is only what suffers.

Anyway, some new info:
1. the font looks bad always when I enable vesa driver, even from live cd
2. 13.10 boots into failsafe X on my machine, but 14.04 alpha boots OK, so I
replaced my system with 14.04 alpha. Anyway, it might still be annoying for
13.10 users

[Bug 1264114] [NEW] Wrong font and smoothing when Xorg started with vesa driver

2013-12-25 Thread Grzegorz Galezowski
Public bug reported:

Hi,

After upgrade to Ubuntu 13.10 my PC stopped booting into the login
screen, but instead showed that failsafe X has to be used because my
video driver could not be detected. As I checked later, the 13.10 live
CD was giving me the same symptom right from the start.

I managed to work around it by adding the following to xorg
configuration:

Section "Device"
Identifier"Configured Video Device"
Driver"vesa"
EndSection

and it started booting, but now shows corrupted font as seen in the
attached image. The graphics card is not top-notch, but it worked in the
13.04 release (albeit only in gnome mode with no effects) and the font
was rendered correctly.

[Bug 1202270] [NEW] At boot I'm taken to text terminal logon

2013-07-17 Thread Grzegorz Galezowski
Public bug reported:

Hi,

Whenever I boot my ubuntu, at the moment when splash wioth ubuntu logo
should appear, I am taken to console login screen. When I log in and
then do startx, Compiz loads, but without unity and the performance is
poor. I can start unity from the terminal again, but the performance is
still poor. Performance ggoes back to normal when I execute metacity
--replace to switch compiz to metacity.

[Bug 1176105] Re: Dash with active blur is not smooth and may be slower to appear

2013-06-13 Thread Grzegorz Galezowski
On my side, the issue disappeared with today's updates of mesa. However,
I think this needs confirmation from the issue originator, since his
issue may have a different root cause.

[Bug 1176105] Re: Dash with active blur is not smooth and may be slower to appear

2013-06-10 Thread Grzegorz Galezowski
For me, the slowdown started after 5th June, when I downloaded an update
consisting of a bunch of libx11* and mesa updates.

The dash shows now in two or three steps, between then there's no fluent
animation. Before this update, everything was super fluent.

[Bug 1099204] Re: Laptop screen turned off with kernel 3.8.0 in raring

2013-05-31 Thread Grzegorz Galezowski
I just noticed that in my case, the display isn't totally disabled, but
the brightness is turned down to minimum so that nothing is visible on
the screen. When I use Fn + up arrow multiple times to increase
brightness, the screen comes back.

[Bug 1179181] Re: Ubuntu turns display off while booting on Lenovo y580

2013-05-12 Thread Grzegorz Galezowski
** Project changed: nux => ubuntu

** Description changed:

+ Hi, I purchased y580 in the following configuration recently (sorry for
Polish language, but I couldn't find the exact same configuration
  anywhere else):

  http://www.euro.com.pl/laptopy-i-netbooki/lenovo-ideapad-y580-i7-3630
  -4gb-1tb-gtx660-2gb-w8.bhtml#opis

and tried to boot Ubuntu 13.04 using live USB. The effect was (despite
trying with EFI boot and legacy option) the OS to turn off the display
  just after the GRUB screen.

I didn't give up and my next try was to check with Ubuntu 12.10 - and
the live USB booted. After installing 12.10 I proceeded to upgrade to
13.04 (the only thing I did inbetween was install all updates to the
default installation of 12.10) and after the upgrade, Ubuntu was once
again turning off the display after grub screen.

While investigating what's wrong, I tried to boot with 3.5 kernel that
was left from my 12.10 installation and it worked, so I guess this has
something to do with 3.8 kernel (maybe 3.8 tries to use my Nvidia card,
since 3.5 kernel does not use it at all?). Just to try if things have
not improved in 3.9 kernel, I installed it from the packages in Ubuntu
Saucy archives. The result was still turned off display.

So to sum up, I must currently use 13.04 with 3.5 kernel and if not
going through Ubuntu 12.10 upgrade, I would not be able to install
Ubuntu on my machine at all...

[Bug 1087534] Re: [regression] Corrupted blurred overlays

2013-04-10 Thread Grzegorz Galezowski
Personally, I vote against deactivating blur unless the opacity and
color are auto-adjusted. Setting "no blur" with default color and
opacity settings makes for a readability disaster. The non-blurred items
behind the dash are mixed with the dash items.

[Bug 1087534] Re: [regression] Corrupted blurred overlays

2013-04-04 Thread Grzegorz Galezowski
Temporary workaround to get acceptable experience while being affected by this
bug (assuming default wallpaper is set. Most of this has already been written
here except for bullet 5):
1. install ccsm tool:
sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager
2. run ccsm tool:
ccsm
3. Search for unity and select it from central panel
4. Switch Dash Blur option to "No Blur"
5. in Background Color panel, set Color Name to #591718 and Opacity to 248 (you
may adjust these values to your liking, especially the color name if your use a
different wallpaper)
6. Close ccsm and try out your dash

[Bug 271986] Re: [intrepid] screen brightness resets to 100% on reboot

2008-12-30 Thread Grzegorz Galezowski
Rocko, I've reinvestigated the case. Seems like I mistakenly reset the
computer without setting manually brightness down before the reboot (I
made a reboot twice) and I though that the brightness reset was done at
the GRUB stage, while in reality it was reset during previous boot.
Seems like, the first appearance of Ubuntu logo and boot progress bar
seems to reset the brightness for the first time. When I turn it down,
it gets reset again at logon screen.

Sorry for causing any confusion.

2008-12-23 Thread Grzegorz Galezowski
Rocko, in my settings the 'Set Display Brightness to' is set to 1% for
AC and it still goes to 100% every time I reboot my computer. The first
jump to 100% seems to occur as early as the GRUB menu, which seems quite
strange.

[Bug 232305] Re: audacious does not play wav files correct when output is pulse audio

2008-05-21 Thread Grzegorz Galezowski
Hi, mcas,

The version of Ubuntu I use is Hardy (8.04). The issue occured from the
beginning (when I installed Hardy). Currently, the version are:
audacious: 1.5.0 (package: 1.5.0-2ubuntu2~hardy1)
audacious-plugins package: 1.5.0-1ubuntu1
audacious-plugins-extra package: 1.5.0-1ubuntu1

pulse audio packages: 0.9.10-1ubuntu1

These are the latest versions in repositories now, but, as I stated
before, the issue occurs since installation of Hardy Heron.

Regards,
grzegorz

[Bug 232305] [NEW] audacious does not play wav files correct when output is pulse audio

2008-05-20 Thread Grzegorz Galezowski
Public bug reported:

When Pulse Audio is set as output plugin in Audacious, it does not play
wav files correctly. The files are played, but the output is "gapped".
The same files are played OK if output plugin is set to alsa.

bit).

My sound card is detected by device manager as:

[Bug 184289] [Gutsy] Problem with eclipse after last X server upgrade

2008-01-19 Thread Grzegorz Galezowski
Public bug reported:

After last X update, my eclipse installation failed to start. The
eclipse was downloaded from eclipse site, not Ubuntu repos, but it
worked allright before. It gives me the following message when I start
it:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/Programming/eclipse$ ./eclipse
The program 'Eclipse' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 438 error_code 11 request_code 146 minor_code 5)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

No, it's not an issue anymore and I managed to successfully install
Gutsy stable a while ago. Feel free to mark this bug as fixed.

Regards,
Grzegorz Galezowski

[Bug 173841] [gutsy] "leave message" and "switch user" buttons in the gnome screensaver unblock desktop dialog are not translated into Polish

2007-12-04 Thread Grzegorz Galezowski
Public bug reported:

It's really strange to see (after blocking the desktop and moving a mouse) that
on the dialog asking for password there are four buttons:
- Leave Message (English)
- Switch User (English)
- Anuluj (Polish)
- Odblokuj (Polish)

These two first buttons are the only parts of the dialog that are not
translated into Polish,

I have the following language-related packages installed:
language-pack-gnome-pl
language-pack-gnome-pl-base
language-pack-pl
language-pack-pl-base
language-support-pl
... and various locale for applications such as Thunderbird, OpenOffice etc.
(but it doesn't matter in this case, I presume).

An example of correct translation would be:
Leave Message -> Zostaw Wiadomość
Switch User -> Przełącz Użytkownika (or Zmień Użytkownika).

regards,
Grzegorz Gałęzowski

[Bug 162977] audacious audio cd plugin has default path for cdrom mounting set to /mnt/cdrom instead of /media/cdrom

2007-11-15 Thread Grzegorz Galezowski
Public bug reported:

When I tried to play audio CD in audacious, it says that audio cd is not
in drive, but it is. Then I had a look at audio cd plugin preferences
(Preferences->Plugins->CD Audio) and saw in its preferences that path
for CD is set to /mnt/cdrom, but, as far as I remember, the default path
for mounting CD in Ubuntu has been /media/cdrom. This can be an obstacle
for someone who thinks that "Add Audio CD" option in audacious should
"just work".

[Bug 157229] Re: [xubuntu gutsy] xemacs blinks when fullscreen

2007-11-03 Thread Grzegorz Galezowski
Hi, Kyzer.

The root cause may be the same, but symptoms are different. What is
described in the bug report you mentioned, is the behaviour I was
getting for Xemacs under Gnome when I was using Ubuntu. So whlie in
Gnome maximizing Xemacs causes short hang-up, In xfce Xemacs maximizes
instantly, but tabs bar starts to blink.

Again, it may is possible that the root cause for both these behaviours
is one and the same.

Grzegorz Galezowski

[Bug 159436] [gutsy] xfce weather applet is not entirely translated into Polish

2007-11-01 Thread Grzegorz Galezowski
Public bug reported:

There are numerous errors in Polish translation of the weather applet
that comes with Xubuntu. Some things are not translated at all, and some
translations are wrong. For example 'set' (in the meaning of sun set) is
translated into 'Ustaw" (which is translation for 'set' in the meaning
of 'set something to something').

I'm aware that the applet uses some kind of web service, which is in
english, but still I think the translation could be improved.

[Bug 158969] [needs-packaging] Please package maven for hardy

2007-10-31 Thread Grzegorz Galezowski
Public bug reported:

"Maven is a software project management and comprehension tool. Based on
the concept of a project object model (POM), Maven can manage a
project's build, reporting and documentation from a central piece of
information."

I searched Ubuntu with apt-file, synaptics and command-not-found and it seems
that maven tool is not present in the repositories. I was surprised not to see
maven in Ubuntu Gutsy, since it's widely used for JEE development.
Please package maven for hardy, because even if I decide not to use it for my
development, I still need it to build examples from the internet etc.

[Bug 133223] Re: Xubuntu Volume Control - Capture slider not working

2007-10-16 Thread Grzegorz Galezowski
I had the same problem in Xubuntu Gutsy with Intel HDA integrated sound
card.

I managed to ifx it with the steps from ubuntu forum thread:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=268652

Namely:
# sudo alsactl names
# sudo alsactl store
# sudo reboot
# After reboot run alsamixer and make sure you have 'Mic' and 'Capture' sliders
marked selected as CAPTURE ... to do this with space bar and then then unmute
all recording to 100%.
# now the slider should stay at the position it was set to.

I remember to have the same problem with Edgy and to have solved it the
same way. It may not work for all soundcards, though.
