[Bug 1821763] Re: Xorg freeze
I tried uninstalling the extensions and reinstalling gnome-shell, but it froze again today. I am attaching a new journalctl file, this time I booted in recovery mode to get the file so judging by the log timestamp it matches the time when it froze, so this one should be more precise. There is an entry about killing process "TabNine" because it ran out of memory, this is a VSCode extension that I installed today, so I don't believe the other freezes were caused by it. Could it be that Ubuntu is freezing when it runs out of memory? I will leave dstat running and logging to a file so maybe I can get some info about memory when it freezes again. Any other tips for debugging? Thanks in advance for the support. ** Attachment added: "journalctl2.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1821763/+attachment/5250629/+files/journalctl2.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1821763 Title: Xorg freeze To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1821763/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1821763] Re: Xorg freeze
Hi Daniel, thanks for the reply! I am attaching the prevboot.txt file. This time the freeze happened while the machine was locked and I was away, when I came back the screen was black and mouse and keyboard weren't working. I can't pinpoint exactly when it froze, but looking at the logs I believe it was around 4:15 PM. I tried to ssh to the machine but the client froze after asking the password, so I'm not able to get any logs from it while frozen. I have no problem with the other two servers as their data is not large. They still work fine. Its always the one with the large data that seems to choke. Which of course is my main mail server. [Bug 1602827] [NEW] NFS server "shutting down socket" during large file copies Ubunutu 14.04.4 LTS
Public bug reported: This is very similar to bug 585657: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/585657 Difference is my server doesn't freeze, it closes the socket. [Bug 1256467] [NEW] lxtask says a process uses 16777216 TB of "RSS" (memory) instead of 3, 3 GB (aprox.)
Public bug reported: This is a display bug: I was running a game , and it was using 1,3 GB of RSS. I started lxtask and it displayed correctly the game was using 1,3 GB. However, then I loaded a more complex level in my game and I think it was consuming about 3,2 GB (because I was watching it as it was growing) of RSS. [Bug 445849] Re: Highpitched Rattling like Sound with 5.1 Surround Configuration on Karmic Koala
I have this with a creative xfi on 9.10 64bit. Killing the the .pulse dir resets the issue and I'm back to normal. However changing volume seems to be causing it for me. Including setting the volume to max (via the desktop slider). I run at 5.1output with mono input. Previously to work around, one my audio was corrupted, I would change to 4.1 output and that would work until it got corrupted, then I'd change to something else. Once my audio is corrupted though it stays corrupted (in that config). I get the same rattle sound, although to me it sound more like high frequency aliasing. Like when you try and record a 22khz sound when your sample rate supports say only sound up 8khz. It sounds like artifacting. I did not have this issue in 9.04. There may be an issue with the flash plug in corrupting my sound as well but I don't have a reproducible test case. Now that I can correct my 5.1 audio I should be able to add a test case. [Bug 482991] Re: Brasero hangs at "Get Size" process on 64bit Ubuntu 9.1
WORK AROUND same as #7. I just ran into this. I had removed a cd by pressing the eject button on the drive. The ejected cd's icon remained on the desktop. I put my blank cd in. dragged in a few files, hit burn and got stuck on size. I clicked cancel on the requester (getting size) and then used the right click menu on the desktop to unmount the previously ejected cd. I then clicked burn again. Worked. Seems the bug would really be pressing the eject button on the drive does not unmount the cd from the filesystem. -- Brasero hangs at "Get Size" process on 64bit Ubuntu 9.1 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/482991 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 119730] Re: Slow SATA performance
I have what I think is the same problem, and I think I've solved it by installing the mainline kernel: System: AMD X2 3800+, 1GB RAM, /dev/sda 1 TB /dev/sdb 500 GB /dev/sdc 500 GB Symptoms: Very slow reads (in particular) and writes to/from /dev/sda hdparm -Tt reported /dev/sda as buffered reads at 50 - 60 MB/sec, however a cp from /dev/sda to /dev/sdb occured at about 6 MB/sec, and a cp to USB occured at 1-2 MB/sec - during which the system was almost non-responsive - top showed iowait at about 60%. Paging in/out of RAM is glacial. I also tried adding various params to fstab (noatime, etc) and changing the scheduler, to little effect. Solution (please note, I'm running Ubuntu AMD64 with the nvidia driver blob!! - your mileage may vary): As recommended by guiguy (thanks!), I downloaded the mainline kernel. I also needed nvidia drivers, so I followed the procedure here (post by Zeroth Eksaz on 2009-06-12): https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-common/+bug/384639 In a nutshell, I went here http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/restricted/n/nvidia-graphics-drivers-180/ and downloaded nvidia-180-kernel-source_185.18.36-0ubuntu9_amd64.deb nvidia-180-libvdpau-dev_185.18.36-0ubuntu9_amd64.deb nvidia-glx-180-dev_185.18.36-0ubuntu9_amd64.deb nvidia-glx-180_185.18.36-0ubuntu9_amd64.deb and installed them all with sudo dpkg -i nvidia*185.18.36* then I went here http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.32.2/ and downloaded linux-headers-2.6.32-02063202-generic_2.6.32-02063202_amd64.deb linux-headers-2.6.32-02063202_2.6.32-02063202_all.deb linux-image-2.6.32-02063202-generic_2.6.32-02063202_amd64.deb linux-source-2.6.32_2.6.32-02063202_all.deb and installed them with sudo dpkg -i linux*2.6.32* I watched this process via iotop, and had disk reads and writes generally less than 1-2 Mb/sec, with iowaits around 60% and the system almost non-responsive. Booting into the new kernel (with nvidia still working), I can now cp from /dev/sda to /dev/sdb at about 40 MB/sec (though I've yet to extensively test it - it feels a lot more responsive) Now, I realise I'm running a newer kernel to that from before, so it's not a like-for-like comparison, but I still think it's likely that guiguy's theory (about the problem being with an Ubuntu kernel patch) is likely to be correct. If people can suggest some tests for me to do that might help, I'll try and be of assistance, but this is the main PC in my house, and is needed! I'm certainly going to be wary about applying future ubuntu kernel upgrades! (might try and stick with the mainline kernel - what a pain!) I have a desktop and a laptop, both 64-bit, using thunderbird. I have what seems like the same problem (get segfault) but only on the desktop machine. "When that happens, I can't start it again (constant segmentation faults) unless I wait about an hour or so." This is essentially what I experience. I am running thunderbird, lightning and googleCal provider from the repos. "File a bug using apport..." I have enabled apport, and have succeeded in getting TB to crash, but only with googlecal provider enabled. However, I don't get any opportunity to submit a bug report. Fixed / Solved Okay, after seeing Flarkit's response I decided to take a little action. I was already using XFiDrv_Linux_Public_US_1.00 release version. Re: [Bug 49052] Re: no hfs+ journal support
Hi Luis, I'm pretty sure that Linux is able to read/write hfs+ partitions, however it ignores the journalling (ie. it treats a hfs+ partition as hfs). I have a feeling that Feisty removed the hfs functionality because of instability fears. It may be that Gutsy has replaced it..? Alternatively, you could recompile your kernel adding HFS support... [Bug 158141] Problems with list refreshing in nm-applet
Public bug reported: Im running ubuntu 7.10 on Thinkpad T60 with intel wireless (ipw3945). I think i will have to go back to ubuntu 7.04 as nm-applet just dosent work as needed. The only working scenario for nm is, boot your computer and use only one network then shutdown your computer. NM has serious problems trying to refresh the list of networks. For example, if i go to my office from home (it's only 4 blocks away) without shutting down the laptop, when i get to the office i will have the same networks as in my house. There will be no way to refresh the network list but rebooting the computer. If i plug a Ethernet wire it does seems to work, but wireless networking is a mess.
