[Bug 296167] Re: X.org will stop responding to mouse clicks on Ibex with Xinerama. Occurs frequently, Fatal Error.

2009-01-16 Thread JPHein
Well I'm still experiencing the problem with the nvidia-glx-180 drivers.
The upstream bug report (https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18668)
said something about it maybe being due to the use of animated cursors.
I tried to test this out by installing a cursor theme without animations, but I
could not find any.
Let me know if anyone tests that theory.

2009-01-13 Thread JPHein
Ubuntu 8.10
2.6.27-9-generic
Xinerama 4-screens
Installed nvidia-glx-180
glx is enabled

With the upgrade of the video card drivers the freezing hasn't happened
yet and the performance problems I was experiencing are mostly gone.

I'll let you know if I experience to freezing again.

[Bug 296167] Re: X.org will stop responding to mouse clicks on Ibex with Xinerama. Occurs frequently, Fatal Error.

2008-12-09 Thread JPHein
Haha, I found this workaround independently too. Sometimes random frustrated
key-commands actually work.
Thanks for posting it with such good instructions, I was going to do some more
testing, but now I don't have to.

I can confirm the above workaround absolutely.

[Bug 254840] Re: [intrepid] mouse and keyboard stop working under gdm and gnome

2008-12-06 Thread JPHein
This happens because GDM is started before Hal. They fixed it for KDM by
making it 99th. So, I just did the same with GDM.
This is the how:
sudo update-rc.d -f gdm remove
sudo update-rc.d gdm defaults 99 01

[Bug 296167] Re: X.org will intermittently stop responding to mouse clicks on Ibex with Xinerama

2008-11-25 Thread JPHein
I also have this problem.
Ubuntu 8.10 64-bit (updated today)
Nividia 177
Xinerama w/ 4 Screens

Reproduce bug:
1. Open Firefox (with a bunch of Restored tabs including one with flash content)
2. Move Firefox window to different monitor.
3. Right click on the Firefox entry in the Window List and select Move
4. Left click anywhere. (The mouse clicks stop working)

The keyboard still works fine and the mouse cursor still moves around.
One time I opened a terminal with keyboard shortcuts and ran sudo
/etc/init.d/hal restart and it fixed the problem. The next time I tried that
it didn't work.

Nelson: I tried to reproduce the bug using your steps, but It did not manifest
itself for me.

I attached the Xorg.0.log from the buggy session.
I did add Option AutoAddDevicesfalse to my xorg.conf
ServerFlags area, but it didn't seem to help.

[Bug 254840] Re: [intrepid] mouse and keyboard stop working under gdm and gnome

2008-11-22 Thread JPHein
I can confirm this bug. I am running a totally updated 8.10. 64-bit.
I have both KDM and GDM installed. GDM is the default.
Ctrl-Alt-F1 does not work and gives me a blinking cursor.
If I restart GDM through ssh then it works. It seems like GDM is started
before hal or dbus.

[Bug 223238] Re: Extremely slow Ajax/Javascript/CSS performance in Firefox 3 using non-free nvidia-glx-new

I don't understand why this status is incomplete.
Anyway, performance degrades when using Opera with some javascript too. i.e.
grandcentral.com.

Firefox and Opera both exhibit the behavior, just on different sites. I
really think this is a driver thing.

2008-11-10 Thread JPHein
I can confirm this happens to me with 8.04.1 and Firefox 3.0.3.
I am not running desktop effects, but I am running Xinerama with (4) monitors.
I am using the Envy manager for my nVidia 8800GT card.

[Bug 223238] Re: Extremely slow Ajax/Javascript/CSS performance in Firefox 3 using non-free nvidia-glx-new

2008-11-10 Thread JPHein
From much mucking about, I have decided that to fully reproduce this bug
requires the below.

Ubuntu 8.04.1 2.6.24-21 64-bit
nvidia-glx-new 169.12
With Xinerama enabled in xorg.conf.

All programs run sluggish including:
Firefox Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.0.3) Gecko/2008092510
Ubuntu/8.04 (hardy) Firefox/3.0.3

My cards are 8800GT and 8500GT with 4 monitors.
Perhaps mismatched cards are the culprit. They seem to run fine in Windows
Vista (64-bit)

The fix above definitely sped some parts of the gui up, but slowed all
the javascript way down. To the point where I couldn't move the cursor
to another monitor for several seconds.

I can post more configuration files and whatnot if anyone is interested.

The solution seems to be:
nvidia-settings -a InitialPixmapPlacement=2

Then install and use Opera.

[Bug 209500] Re: Bind 9.4.1-P1 fails to compile with the --with-dlz-mysql flag

2008-03-31 Thread JPHein
Ok I figured it out.
I installed the wrong mysql package.
This is the right process:
apt-get install build-essential
apt-get source bind9
apt-get build-dep bind9
apt-get libmysqlclient15-dev, needed for mysql headers and libraries for the
dlz-mysql driver.
cd bind9-9.4.1-P1
export DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=--with-dlz-mysql. This does not work as it shoud so:
nano -w debian/rules, add --with-dlz-mysql to ./configure line
dpkg-buildpackage -b
dpkg -i ../bind9_9.4.1-P1-3ubuntu1_i386.deb
