[Bug 464835] [NEW] Multi-monitor management doesn't work
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace There are several issues: - Starting KDE after upgrading to Karmic with a monitor attached to a laptop shows clones on both monitors, neither in the native resolution. I had it set up to show them side-by-side before the upgrade. - Starting the display section of the KDE settings manager (probably) crashes compiz, all effects are gone. Both monitors are switched to their native resolution, but the desktop doesn't fit in anymore (areas out of view). - The manager tells me I don't seem to have a configuration that allows to setup multi monitors. - I can only setup side-by-side using ARandR. - But this setup (by ARandR) is not remembered on the next boot. [Bug 378384] Re: ofdb.py crashed with ImportError in module()
No, it doesn't, because the library paths are still set in the wrong order. sgmlop.so which is imported from Sgmlop.py only exists in /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/oldxml/_xmlplus/parsers/ on my vanilla mythbuntu system. If the directories are appended to the search path instead of prepended, Sgmlop.py is loaded from /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/_xmlplus/dom/ext/reader/ and thus can't find sgmlop.so. I'm not a Python guy, but to me the current python distribution looks pretty messed up, with two different xml libraries bundled, one of them incomplete. [Bug 341816] Re: samba PANIC: failed to set uid
Yes, i have seen a lot of similar bug reports too, but all of them were unresolved. When the problem appeared we checked a lot of configuration issues. The problem seems NOT to be user or client specific. The users where the PANIC appeared: - had a unix account - a samba account with the same uid - no special ulimits set - no group membership which seems to be responsible for the problem - su user did work, opening files as this user did work, no messages like: to many open files... # getent passwd 11789 diehl:x:11789:11700::/home/diehl:/bin/bash # pdbedit -L -u diehl diehl:11789: # su - diehl -c 'ulimit -u' 30720 # getent group 11700 groupname:x:11700: # net groupmap list | grep groupname groupname (SID) - groupname Samba worked without any problems if there were less than about 100 clients/users connected. Volker Lendecke from SerNet proposed to set change notify = no as a workaround, which we did not really test. [Bug 276943] Re: Resume from suspend doesn't not work on the Mobile 4 Series chipsets
The new kernel finally showed up and indeed seems to fix the standby/suspend problems, with only a few minor glitches. I'm mentioning them here just in case, though they might be unrelated: - After resuming I get a message that a new monitor has been detected. When opening the KDE dialog for setting up the monitor, the LDVS and VGA entries are activated, but the VGA does not detect a monitor. It shouldn't anyway, because there is really no monitor attached. - After resuming from standby, the wlan link is disabled, but it can be turned on manually without problems. - When going into suspend, the screen is flickering like hell, until the machine is finally turned off. This is a Dell Inspiron E6500 with an GM45 IGM and an Intel 5300 wifi chip. -- Resume from suspend doesn't not work on the Mobile 4 Series chipsets https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/276943 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 276943] Re: Resume from suspend doesn't not work on the Mobile 4 Series chipsets
Even worse, now that I tested it more thoroughly. After the 2nd standby/resume cycle, the display stayed blank, even though X/KDE seem to have been back, judged by the LED activity. Alt-Ctrl-Backspace got it back, but in the wrong resolution. After that, all further standby/resume cycles worked fine. [Update: maybe this was related to the fact that I still had the CPU-shutdown-workaround installed. After I removed it, it seems to standby/resume much more stable. Still wifi turned off after certain cycles, and monitor detection popup.] Suspend/resume cycles seem to be completely stable now, beside the flickering. I've seen then touchpad issues too with my first testing after the kernel update, but not anymore. -- Resume from suspend doesn't not work on the Mobile 4 Series chipsets https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/276943 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 282890] Re: firefox crashes directly after starting since last update
I see the same error, but with a different backtrace: The program 'firefox' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'. (Details: serial 38065 error_code 11 request_code 53 minor_code 0) (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it. To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
