[Bug 1767089] Re: totem cannot play h.264 on 18.04
Yes, Nvidida indeed. 750 GTX in one system, 970 GTX in the other one. Oddly enough, the videos now play for me as well ... I guess that would confirm your suspicions about the video hardware. My apt history shows that libnvidia-390 was updated only three days ago. I would not be surprised if it contained the fix that was needed. I think we can call this one solved. [Bug 1767614] [NEW] 18.04 system with nvidia-driver-390 freezes when returning from console
Public bug reported: Expected behaviour on exiting any console session: 1) the system keeps displaying the console until I manually select a different tty (ALT + F key) 2) I can log in on that tty (text or GUI) without any problem Actual (and consistent) behaviour with nvidia-390 installed: 1) as soon as I enter "exit" on any console, I get kicked out and directed to GDM 2) GDM is completely frozen: the mouse pointer is stuck and most keyboard keys are dead 3) I can enter ALT + Print Screen, but that only makes the screen turn black 4) I need to push the reset button One more detail: the bug is effectively triggered by the act of exiting - as long as all console sessions are kept open, the system behaves as expected. I estimate that this problem is caused by the nvidia driver because: a) I am seeing the same problem on a second computer that has different hardware but that is also using nvidia 390 b) the problem disappears as soon as I switch back to nouveau Unfortunately, dmesg, Xorg.0.log and kern.log do not appear to offer any pointers that might shed more light on this bug. ** Affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers-390 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1767614 Title: 18.04 system with nvidia-driver-390 freezes when returning from console To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-390/+bug/1767614/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1767089] Re: totem cannot play h.264 on 18.04
It appears to affect several h.264 encoded videos I have. I have recently purchased a number of course videos consisting each of individual clips - and none of those will play. They do play in VLC and SMPlayer so I assume the clips are fine. As for precedents, I cannot think of any. It is true I have had the occasional h.264 video failing to render as a thumbnail (I believe that started around 16.04) - but those were exceptions and it did did not prevent those videos from playing. Now I get neither thumbnails nor playback so it is worse. And it affects many more videos, too. As requested, I have added a clip that is affected by the bug. ** Attachment added: "01 - Course Introduction.mp4" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gstreamer1.0/+bug/1767089/+attachment/5127610/+files/01%20-%20Course%20Introduction.mp4 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1767089 Title: totem cannot play h.264 on 18.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gstreamer1.0/+bug/1767089/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1767089] [NEW] totem cannot play h.264 on 18.04
Public bug reported: On a fresh install of 18.04, Totem fails to play recent h.264 video (audio is fine). Obviously, that means failed thumbnails, too. [Bug 1762086] [NEW] libreoffice-writer 6.0.2: no default borderless tables
Public bug reported: Testing the 6.0.2-0ubuntu1 release of LibreOffice included with the beta of Ubuntu 18.04 (daily image of April 7th), I find that LO Writer 6 cannot create borderless tables by default. Previously, one could get the desired result by simply unchecking the "border" boxes under the "tables" nodes of Tools > Options > LO Writer and of Tools > Options > LO Writer/Web. Unfortunately, that does not seem to work for LO 6. Tables get created with borders even so. More annoyingly, after I remove them manually, they pop up again as soon as I make any edits to the table (e.g. insert or delete a line or make any edits to the numbering). The PPA versions of LO 6 available for 17.10 appeared to be suffering from the same problem. But then it was easy to revert to the officially supported LO 5. As 18.04 is to be an LTS release and LO 6 looks like the official version, I do hope to see the table bug solved sooner than later. ** Affects: libreoffice (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1762086 Title: libreoffice-writer 6.0.2: no default borderless tables To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/1762086/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1725948] [NEW] system hangs during boot when using a USB Keyboard
Public bug reported: My USB Keyboard consistently turns off as soon as the boot process gets past the GRUB menu. The system then hangs - indefinitely, unless I plug the keyboard in again. [Bug 954496] Re: miro segfaults every couple minutes
I've noticed this for a long, long time, and it's made Miro unusable. At first I couldn't pinpoint the cause -- crashes seemed to happen no matter what you were doing with Miro at the time -- but after removing all my podcast subscriptions, it didn't crash for at least half an hour. I added a couple audio podcasts from the Miro Guide, changed the podcast "Check for new content" setting to "Manually," and it remained stable for a while, even as I played a video I had manually downloaded with a .torrent file. Then it crashed again, with the same terminal output. I plan to leave Miro running with *no* subscriptions for a while to see if that prevents it from crashing. I've also filed an upstream bug: http://bugzilla.pculture.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18908 ** Bug watch added: Participatory Culture Bugzilla #18908 http://bugzilla.pculture.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18908 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/954496 Title: Miro segfaults every couple minutes: g_object_ref: assertion `object->ref_count > 0' failed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/democracy/+bug/954496/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 961689] [NEW] When dragging bookmark from address bar to bookmarks bar, nested menus close too easily
Public bug reported: This is a bit difficult to explain, so here goes: 1) Make sure you have a folder in your bookmarks bar, and that that folder has at least one subfolder, and that that subfolder has half a dozen or so items in it. 2) Drag the favicon from the address bar over the folder in the bookmarks bar, and that folder's menu will open. 3) Continue to drag the favicon over the newly visible subfolder's name, and that subfolder's menu will open. 4) Attempt to drag the favicon into the subfolder's menu by dragging diagonally down and to the right. As soon as the cursor goes beneath the bottom of the subfolder's title, the subfolder menu closers. 5) Compare this with choosing an existing bookmark from that subfolder; moving the cursor diagonally down and to the right, even if it goes beneath the bottom of the subfolder's title, doesn't cause the subfolder's menu to close. ** Affects: firefox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/961689 Title: When dragging bookmark from address bar to bookmarks bar, nested menus close too easily To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/961689/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 883800] Re: apps available to download section should blacklist certain items
I like Alex's approach in his second paragraph in comment #5. In short: 1) Developers offer to mark their applications as containing "adult content" at their own discretion. 2) Software Center has a toggle option to hide/show applications containing "adult content." This approach addresses several concerns: a) The Dash and Software Center can show fewer "adult" applications if desired. b) Nobody has to moderate (what would inevitably be very, very contentious) blacklists/whitelists in order to keep (a) true. c) Nobody's "freedoms" are infringed upon; users still have the freedom to show and install these applications; developers still have the freedom to have their applications appear in Software Center, with the entirely voluntary option to accommodate those (many) who would rather not see these types of applications by default. Should these apps be shown or hidden by default? Should the toggle be such that "unchecked" means hide them or "checked" means hide them? My opinion is that the checkbox label should read "Show applications containing adult content," and should be unchecked by default. If developers are taking the extra step to mark their applications as "adult," there seems no harm in hiding them by default. Then again, maybe hiding them by default would discourage developers from using the option. Maybe the option in Software Center could even be discoverable by looking for specific search keywords, like "porn": "It appears that your are searching for applications with adult content, which are currently hidden. Would you like to show these applications?" This would be trickier -- off the top of my head, someone might be looking for a parental control / porn-blocking app by using search terms such as these. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/883800 Title: apps available to download section should blacklist certain items To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/883800/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: When trying to install untrusted packages, the alert message reads: == Requires installation of untrusted packages The action would require the installation of packages from not authenticated sources. == The second sentence should definitely be something more like: > This action would require the installation of packages from sources that have not been authenticated or at least > This action would require the installation of packages from unauthenticated sources. Is it possible to change the word "Details" there? Maybe to "Untrusted packages" or something? I couldn't connect to my Gmail jabber account at all under GNOME Shell, and when I logged out of that session and the keyring prompt appeared, I was able to enter my password and watch Empathy connect successfully before the system had logged me out. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/840875 Title: Empathy sends a notification "Password required" without any supplementary info To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/empathy/+bug/840875/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
