[Bug 1659682] Re: installer error after finishing partition layout setting screen

2017-01-27 Thread Johannes Unger
There were errors in filesystem.squashfs indeed.
Sadly, skipping these 3 files without restarting live session was not possible
(so I downloaded a new image over night using bitTorrent to prevent from
undiscovered download errors and to not have to download over and over again -
connection slower than 2176 kbps / many DSL low-level errors and no clue about
rsync).
This bug may be closed. I wouldn't have posted here if I wasn't asked to do so
after a crash _right after_ ubiquity installer showed an error message about
corrupted installation media.

[Bug 1659682] [NEW] installer error after finishing partition layout setting screen

2017-01-26 Thread Johannes Unger
Public bug reported:

In my setup (MSI-16L2 "GT62VR 6RD") with one SSD and one HDD I tried to install
ubuntu on a partition in the middle of the 1TB HDD. Selected to install
bootloader there because I didn't know what it should mean in uEFI mode and
maybe the recovery bootloader was placed there somewhere in the other
partitions or /dev/sdb directly.
(Additionally, not everything was visible at any time because the display
resolution is limited to 800x600 even though it is a 1920x1080 display -
nVidia-powered gsync)
What happened: got an error message from ubiquity installer about an IO error
and that I should check the installation media, then was asked to report the
error
Expected: installation should have continued.

For me this is a minor bug, not causing any significant trouble.
Steps I did: launched "Einstellungen->Anzeige" from the top left menu, chose
2nd display (named "Bildschirm") (1st display is named "Laptop",), unticked
"Diesen Bildschirm verwenden". 1st physical display flickered, (NetBeans
reported an unexpected exception aboud buffered images), crash of xfsettingsd
was reported to me.
+ 2nd logical display seems to be disabled propery, tough.
I even don't know what that second display is. There were 4 different
resolutions to choose from, and none of the options matched the native
resolution of notebook's display (1600x900). Notebook uses MXM (Intel i915 +
nVidia nouveau) in default mode (I did not alter any settings). If I connect a
monitor/TV through the HDMI port, a 3rd logical display appears which can be
used to configure the external HDMI-connected display.
