[Bug 1875348] Re: dependence upon libresolv.so (libc6-dev)

2020-04-27 Thread Joris Bierkens
The maintainer got back to me and asked me to add the following:

"
I am just using the file DNS.jsm, which ships with Thunderbird and use that to
do DNS requests.

https://searchfox.org/comm-central/source/mail/base/modules/DNS.jsm

And I do

const { DNS } = ChromeUtils.import("resource:///modules/DNS.jsm");
let rv = await DNS.srv(request);

and that fails on Linux.

2020-04-27 Thread Joris Bierkens
Ok, I have asked him to comment. Under the link mentioned earlier
(https://github.com/jobisoft/DAV-4-TbSync/issues/202) the following is
mentioned:

" I am just using standard API calls and do not load libraries."

But I can imagine it is useful to know which API calls this concerns.

[Bug 1875348] [NEW] dependence upon libresolv.so (libc6-dev)

2020-04-27 Thread Joris Bierkens
Public bug reported:

When trying to get the add-on TbSync to work in combination with the
add-on "Provider for CalDAV & CardDAV", I encountered a mysterious error
message, "status.service-provider-setup-failed".

After getting in touch with the maintainer of these add-ons, it turns
out that this add-on depends upon libresolv.so. Indeed I managed to
resolve the error by manually installing libc6-dev which contains this
so.

Therefore should libc6-dev be a dependency for Thunderbird?

next, changing the fontname "dina" in ~/.Xdefaults into "helvetica"

even when I install the xfonts-75dpi and xfonts-100dpi I do not get

On another note, in my case xscreensaver seems to be requesting the

any help appreciated to get rid of this annoying error message.

[Bug 1459149] Re: keyboard and mouse not responding at login

2015-05-31 Thread Joris Bierkens
I have tried reverse bisecting but unfortunately the bug does not always
appear in versions = 3.13.2. This makes it very hard and incredibly
time consuming (for me at least) to conclusively determine which commit
is the first one that solves the bug. As far as I am concerned, I'll
leave it here. I am happy that the bug is resolved on my pc and I thank
penalvch for his suggestion. If there are simple, less time consuming
ways of further resolving this issue I would not mind looking into it.

[Bug 1459149] Re: keyboard and mouse not responding at login

2015-05-30 Thread Joris Bierkens
By installing kernels using .deb packages I have learned that the issue
is resolved between kernel 3.13.2 and 3.13.3. I will now try to reverse
bisect the commits in between these kernel version (which I have never
done before).

As a side note, I could not test the issue in kernel 3.13.1; I got
completely different behaviour: after a low-res xubuntu splash screen,
the screen became garbled, after which it became completely green. The
system hung completely (I needed to hold the power button to switch it
off). This issue could be reproduced. I don't know if it is important.

[Bug 1459149] [NEW] keyboard and mouse not responding at login

2015-05-27 Thread Joris Bierkens
Public bug reported:

If I boot normally, I can use my keyboard in GRUB to select boot
options. If I then boot into Xubuntu (14.04.2), the keyboard and mouse
are not responding (except in rare cases). I can not Ctrl-Alt-F1 to a
console and can not use Ctrl-Alt-Del to reboot.

The only way I can boot into Linux is by disconnecting mouse and
keyboard before turning on my pc, waiting for the lightdm login screen,
plug in my keyboard and mouse. In this case everything always seems to
work normally.

I have just (26 May 2015) updated my bios to the most recent available
version, A07 and all packages are up to date.

The automatically generated files in this bug report are from a boot in
which I unplugged mouse and keyboard first, so that I was able to login.

[Bug 1389006] Re: [Dell XPS 8700] USB mouse and keyboard unresponsive after last update

2015-05-26 Thread Joris Bierkens
I have the same issue with a Dell Inspirion 3847. I have updated my BIOS
today (version A07) and still have the issue. If I leave the devices
plugged in at boot, the system will not respond to anything at the
(Xubuntu / lightdm) login screen, not even Ctrl-Alt-Del or Ctrl-Alt-F1.
The only way to start my system is to unplug mouse and keyboard before
boot, wait for login screen, then plug in keyboard and mouse.

Please let me know what information is required to help solve this
issue.

[Bug 1309801] Re: [xubuntu] chromium redraw issue after switching workspaces

2015-03-12 Thread Joris Bierkens
I have the same issue. For me this workaround was succesful:
https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=370022#c13

It amounts to enabling hardware acceleration in Google chrome (instead of
disabling), by typing
chrome://flags
in address bar and Enable the Override software rendering list. See
http://www.webupd8.org/2014/01/enable-hardware-acceleration-in-chrome.html for
details.

Also starting google-chrome with the flag --disable-gpu remedies the
issue.

Which of the two approaches should be preferred?

[Bug 899906] Re: impossible to enter last.fm credentials, hence no scrobbling

2011-12-14 Thread Joris Bierkens
Either I was mistaken, the bug has been fixed, or a restart of rhythmbox
made the difference: a last.fm entry has appeard on the side pane, where
I can enter my credentials.

If a restart was indeed necessary I'd like to remark that this is
counterintuitive / should not be necessary in my opinion.

I can not reproduce the behaviour; as soon as I select last.fm in the
plugins windows, the last.fm entry appears on the side pane. Perhaps I
did not see it before, in case the plugins windows blocked the rhythmbox
window.

[Bug 484438] Re: Open Office file dialog hangs in Kubuntu

2011-03-24 Thread Joris Bierkens
Happens to me too.

Is remedied (at least for the moment, it seems) by

$ sudo apt-get remove --purge openoffice-gnome openoffice-gtk openoffice
.org-kde

and then

$ sudo apt-get install openoffice.org-kde

(credits to Torben Menke in the duplicate thread)

Re: [Bug 264317] Re: system crash at logout

2009-08-01 Thread Joris Bierkens
Sorry, I don't have the time to try your suggestions (of trying latest
development release + upstream kernel) right now but I can say that
with Kubuntu Jaunty, KDE 4.2.2, I can logout without trouble on this
machine.

uname -a output:
Linux joris-vaio 2.6.28-13-generic #45-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jun 30 22:12:12
UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux

apport-collect -p linux 264317 is giving some problems, hope to get
this working.

2009/8/1 kernel-janitor le...@canonical.com:
 Hi Joris,

Please be sure to confirm this issue exists with the latest development
release of Ubuntu.  ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .  Please then run following command
from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal).  It will
automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this
 report.

 apport-collect -p linux 264317

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would
be great.  It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the
issue.  Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds .  Once
you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-
testing' tag.  This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon
next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and
deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.  Please let us know your
 results.

 Thanks in advance.

[Bug 256629] Re: wireless network does not work on Sony VAIO SR19VN [Intel Wireless WiFi Link 5100]

2008-11-03 Thread Joris Bierkens
Did not try linux-backports-modules.
I don't know if Intrepid / kernel 2.6.27 was supposed to correct this bug, but
it didn't work for me.

However I did follow the steps on
https://wiki.kubuntu.org/LaptopTestingTeam/SonyVGN-SR19VN , which worked for me.
Wireless is up and running now.

Remark: Since I'm using kernel 2.6.24 I had to download compat-wireless-
old.tar.bz2 from http://linuxwireless.org/download/compat-wireless-2.6/

2008-10-03 Thread Joris Bierkens
Yes, quite sure. Anyway, here is a new dmesg output, lspci output and
uname output, using Ubuntu Hardy,

Linux joris-vaio 2.6.24-19-generic #1 SMP Wed Aug 20 17:53:40 UTC 2008

(wireless switch turned on, yep ;-) )

Thanks, hope it might be working in Intrepid...

 Hi Guys,

@Joris, you mentioned you turned on the wireless switch after KDE had
finished loading. Are you sure you didn't disable wireless when you
flipped the switch as I first see in your dmesg output:

[ 57.823085] iwlagn: Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link AGN driver for Linux,

 But then see:

[ 80.889626] iwlagn: Radio disabled by HW RF Kill switch

@inflamestory, care to attach your full dmesg output? I'm also curious
if something like echo 0 /sys/class/rfkill/rfkill0/state would help
to toggle the state as a workaround for you?

 Thanks.

2008-09-07 Thread Joris Bierkens
I am currently trying Intrepid 5, with more less the same results as
Bernhard I think:

iwconfig gives
wlan0 IEEE 802.11abgn ESSID:
  Mode:Managed Frequency:2.412 GHz Access Point: Not-Associated
  Tx-Power=15 dBm
  Retry min limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr=2352 B
  Power Management:off
  Link Quality:0 Signal level:0 Noise level:0
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
  Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

Attached you find the dmesg output.
(I turned on the wireless switch after KDE had finished loading.)
Perhaps it just amounts to installing the right firmware? However the
restricted drivers program (now called hardware drivers) does not
list my wireless card, and i don't know how to do this from the
command line.

Regards, Joris

[Bug 264317] [NEW] system crash at logout

2008-09-03 Thread Joris Bierkens
Public bug reported:

My Sony VAIO VGN-SR19VN of August 2008 crashes when using KDE 3.5 or KDE
4 at the moment I choose to logout.

This happens only at logout, so not when restarting / hybernating /
suspending / shutting down.

The crash is total: my Caps Lock and Scroll Lock lights flash and I can
only shutdown by pressing the power button for ten seconds.

When restarting after this crash I quite often have file system
inconsistencies to the extent that fsck.ext2 cannot solve them
automatically and i am brought to a maintenance shell.

I am hesitant to experiment with this because of the named file system
problems.

[Bug 256629] [NEW] wireless network does not work on Sony VAIO SR19VN

2008-08-10 Thread Joris Bierkens
Public bug reported:

Wireless does not work.
Wireless led is on (but it seems this led also controls bluetooth, so maybe
wifi is actually turned off).

Tried ndiswrapper on sony atheros driver downloaded from

I think modprobe did not succeed, I didn't find a message like ndiswrapper:
using irq 11 on dmesg | tail, but did read
ndiswrapper version ... loaded (preempt=yes,smp=no)

[Bug 173028] Re: system hangs when starting firefox

2007-12-04 Thread Joris Bierkens
After removing Firefox, also Konqueror stopped responding at its
startup. (No problems before)

Then, after reinstalling Firefox, this problem seemed to be solved: both
Konqueror and Firefox start normally.

But, I still have total system hangs now and then. Last time this even
happened at the kdm login screen.
