[Bug 1440012] Re: The cursor disappears on the top of the screen

2015-05-04 Thread Leonardo Torok
I'm also affected by this issue, since upgrading to 15.04. I'm using a
Sony VAIO Fit 14 (SVF14A17PBS) notebook, with a GT735M Nvidia GPU
(proprietary driver, v 364). When I switch to my integrated Intel GPU,
the issue is gone, so it seems related to the Nvidia driver.

[Bug 1264311] Re: BCM43142 bluetooth adapter not finding any bluetooth devices

2014-02-03 Thread Leonardo Torok
I can confirm that the issue occurs in my notebook (Sony Vaio
SVF14A17PBS). The wireless/bluetooth adapter is the same:

07:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM43142 802.11b/g/n
(rev 01)

As he said, it is not possible to find bluetooth devices that are
visible to pairing. I tryed with smartphones (Android, BlackBerry) and
bluetooth headsets without success. All these devices can see, connect
and pair to each other. I was able to connect my bluetooth headphone
once to this computer and use it normally, but after disconnecting the
system wasn't able to reconnect and, after removing the pairing to retry
the process, I couldn't make Ubuntu see the device.

I'm not attaching all the data like Void, because I tryed the same
commands and got the same results. If these data is necessary, I can
attach it here to.

Re: [Bug 388547] Re: Volume keys don't work inside a full-screen game

2012-10-09 Thread Leonardo Torok
I believe we should have some global shortcut, like Ctrl + Alt + Del on
Windows, that calls a task manager to allow the user to kill the
problematic process.

2012/10/8 Matt Pharoah 388...@bugs.launchpad.net

This is extremely annoying when a fullscreen application crashes. Your
average user who doesn't know about the Ctrl+Alt+PrntScrn+K and
Ctrl+Alt+F1 tricks will assume that the operating system crashed which
is about the most significant usability issue you could possibly have.

And even for the experienced user, you either have to
Ctrl+Alt+PrntScrn+K back to the login screen and have all your
applications terminate, or you have to go to a fullscreen shell,
terminate the process, exit the shell, and return to X. All just because
some user application entered an infinite loop. Bad, bad, bad design.

2012-08-27 Thread Leonardo Torok
Hi,

I'm not using StumbleUpon and I don't even think I've a lot of bookmarks

Re: [Bug 1005174] Re: HUD Service high CPU usage with Firefox

2012-06-03 Thread Leonardo Torok
Actually, Firefox freezes too. It wouldn't be better simply disable HUD
when using Firefox or, at least, don't scan Firefox bookmarks menu? It's
actually redundant, since the address bar already does that. HUD is only
usefull to access the other options (File, Edit, Help, etc).

If it helps, my bookmark menu structure it's a few hundreds of
bookmarks, with subdirectories too.

[Bug 1005174] [NEW] HUD Service high CPU usage with Firefox

2012-05-27 Thread Leonardo Torok
Public bug reported:

When using HUD to access Firefox menus, it will use a high amount of CPU
(around 70%), even after Firefox is closed. It looks like its trying to
index Firefox menus (speacially the bookmarks menu, that has a lot of
entries).

Steps to reproduce:
- You need a Firefox install with hundreds of bookmarks.
- Start Firefox
- Start the Hud and try to search a item that it's on your bookmarks menu.
- See the high CPU usage of unity-pane-service and hud-service.

[Bug 689610] [NEW] Google Earth needs packaging

2010-12-13 Thread Leonardo Torok
Public bug reported:

Google Earth isn't easy to install in Ubuntu. Now, there are three ways
to install it:

- Use make-google-earth-package. It requires using the terminal, manually
install a DEB and the created DEB won't work if the user doesn't install
the lsb-core package.

- Download and install it from official site. This is wrong for several
reasons. First, why the user have do download and run an installer if
all the other softwares are on Software Center? Second, double clicking
the file doesn't works (because of the BIN extension). It's necessary to
give execution permission and remove the extension (or rename to SH). A
average user would have a lot of problems here.

- Medibuntu, but Google Earth isn't there anymore for Maverick.

My sugestion is to make an official Google Earth package and put it on
Software Center. Everybody uses Google Earth and will be very frustated
if Ubuntu cannot run it (or if the user can't do the procedure to
install it). Of course, it' proprietary software, but Adobe Reader and
Skype are proprietary too and the partner repository is designed for
proprietary software. There are even paid apps on SC, so I think that
Earth isn't a problem.

The package could be easily built with make-google-earth-package and
added to the partner's repository. If it's not possible to add it to the
repository, the make-google-earth-package utility should be more user
friendly, downloadind and installing the Google Earth package without
requiring the user to use the terminal (like an automated install).

[Bug 665678] [NEW] Fullscreen videos bug in Youtube (and other sites)

2010-10-23 Thread Leonardo Torok
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: flashplugin-nonfree

When switching Youtube videos to fullscreen mode, the image in the
screen freezes. The video keeps playing in background, it's possible to
hear the sound, but the image keeps frozen. Switching back to windowed
mode the video continues normally, but no fullscreen is possible.

I've found a solution, that is:
$ sudo mkdir /etc/adobe
$ sudo echo \OverrideGPUValidation = 1\  /etc/adobe/mms.cfg

That solves the issue completely. It's possible to solve it with an
update? A lot of users are with this problem

[Bug 659331] [NEW] Evolution folders displayed incorrectly

2010-10-12 Thread Leonardo Torok
Public bug reported:

Actually, in all games (running natively). The games took control of the
keyboard, so it's not possible to change volume, mute sound, use
multimedia keys to stop/play musics.

Games using Wine doesn't have this problem. They don't capture
completely the keyboard (it's even possible to rotate compiz cube).

Re: [Bug 388547] Re: Volume keys don't work inside a full-screen game

2010-05-07 Thread Leonardo Torok
So it is a limitation of X.org? I think that we have 2 types of
fullscreen apps here:

- Fake fullscreen: Wine apps, Firefox, Totem. They don't grab the
keyboard. Basically, they hide the window decoration and fill the screen
with the window.

- True fullscreen: Games. They grab the keyboard control, so Gnome
can't do anything. If an app like this crashes, you can't even call
System Monitor to kill it (like ctrl + alt + del in Windows).

Would be nice if the Games had the same behaviour than the other
programs.

Em Sex, 2010-05-07 às 15:18 +, Chris Coulson escreveu:
I don't see how this could be a gnome-settings-daemon issue. gnome-
settings-daemon has a passive grab on the volume keys, and it will get
temporary focus during a keypress so that the keypresses are routed to
g-s-d. If a fullscreen game has an active grab on the keyboard or
pointer, then there is no way in the X protocol to break this and no way
for g-s-d to get the keypresses

[Bug 506717] Re: [Lucid] plymouth does not display when using nvidia drivers

I've found an workaround: adding vga=792 at the end of the entry in

Before that, it was a purple screen with ubuntu 10.04 written on it and a

[Bug 550833] Re: alienware m11x - multi-gpu switch issue

2010-04-14 Thread Leonardo Torok
The problem is the following: The Alienware m11x has two GPUs, an Intel
integrated graphic card and a Nvidia offboard graphic card. In Windows,
it's possible to switch between the two cards using fn + f6 (something
like that, I actually doesn't have this notebook) on the fly. Using the
Intel card, the battery life is a way better. The Nvidia card is more
powerfull.

When using Ubuntu, it's not possible to change it on the fly, it must be
done in the BIOS. Besides that, when using Intel card on Linux, the
Nvidia card remains active, drawing the battery very quickly.

The desired behavior would be:
- Be able to switch between the two graphic cards on the fly.
- When using one card, the other should remain deactivated, improving battery
life (wich is the idea of having two cards).

Every time I start my computer, indicator-applet and indicator-session

The problem only occurs during boot or restart. If I logout and start

Removing the applets stops the errors. Adding it again, the problems are
back again. I've have tryed to stop X and gconf and remove all the Gnome

[Bug 408588] Re: [i865] Low screen resolution using Ubuntu 9.10 Alpha 3, Alpha 4, and Alpha 5

2009-11-14 Thread Leonardo Torok
I've found a workaround. Disabling Kernel Mode Setting (editing menu.lst
and adding nomodesetting to the kernel line) allows to use all
resolutions. Looks that the problem is with KMS.

[Bug 420793] [NEW] Fonts problem in Qt applications

2009-08-28 Thread Leonardo Torok
Public bug reported:

Usually, the fonts in all qt applications get corrupted, making them
unreadable. It happens in Gnome and KDE. Skype and Google Earth are
affected too. The problem occurs eventually, affecting all qt programas
in execution. I'm using Ubuntu 9.04, with Nvidia's proprietary driver.

It's marked as fixed there. But it isn't. My system is up to date and it

But there is another problem: my resolution is 1280x800. I usally play
games at 1024x768. The notifications does not display correctly (they
stays out of the screen). I would like if they could display correctly
during my games. I could see new messages in MSN and other things like
this.

And would you like Mirco to implement a mind reader to know whether or not
it should display notifications ? It's completely impossible at the moment
to cover all the use cases properly. Users may use fullscreen apps to gain
space, and they do care about notifications. You may be playing a game
waiting for an important IM message / email, and thus you need the
notification too. There should be a way to disable notifications in the FUSA
soon. I think it's better than having a behaviour based on assumptions.

Re: [Bug 372789] Re: NotifyOSD notifications shouldn't appear when using fullscreen applications

Well, I found a solution. There is a compiz option, in Bug Correction,
about legacy fullscreen. Keep it disabled and the flickering stops.

broke the system.

The problem occurs too in Update Manager.

The notification could be disabled when viewing fullscreen videos. Looks
a good solution.

It's possible to avoid the flickering by disabling the compiz option (in
CCSM): Bug Correction Legacy_Fullscreen

[Bug 367903] [NEW] Powernowd was removed when upgrading from Intrepid to Jaunty

2009-04-27 Thread Leonardo Torok
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: powernowd

After upgrade from 8.04 to 9.04, the powernowd package was removed.
Now, my fan stays on all the time and my CPU doesn't change to 800Mhz,
staying on ondemand mode (800Mhz, staying in 2Ghz when the processor
load rises). The removal of this package was intentional, to be more
efficient, or this is a bug?

[Bug 359721] Re: Enable Ctrl - Alt - Backspace by default

Ctrl + alt+ backspace it's a excelent way to deal with a problem in a program.
Without it, the user will just restart the system. That's better? We should
make a BSOD too.
That key combination it's not very common and just a few users will make that
accidentaly.
