[Bug 1267650] Re: fglrx causes segmentation fault on boot
The installation is just about running: chmod +x amd* ./amd* --buildpkg Ubuntu/trusty sudo dpkg -i *.deb But you would need to install some build dependencies (exact steps should be here: http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubuntu_Trusty_Installation_Guide#Before_you_start). Anyway, I tested all the official AMD versions except the recently released 14.6 beta. None of them fixed the problem so I highly doubt this one will make any difference. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1267650 Title: fglrx causes segmentation fault on boot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer-updates/+bug/1267650/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I can confirm this behavior since fglrx 12.11 if I am right. [Bug 839800] Re: 5.1 built-in surround detected as 4.0 on Acer Aspire 8943G with ALC670
Thank you for your advice, Christopher M. Penalver. I have tried kernel version 3.6.2-030602.201210121823 (amd64) from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.6.2-quantal/ running on Ubuntu 12.10. Version 3.7-rc1 from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel- ppa/mainline/v3.7-rc1-quantal/ is not installable for me because of the missing *_all.deb package. The bug still persists in the 3.6.2 kernel - I can only choose Analog 4.0 Surround Output from the system sound menu in the top panel (front center and LFE speakers are not recognized). I will run apport-collect once I uninstall the upstream kernel as it needs the one from quantal repository. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/839800 Title: 5.1 built-in surround detected as 4.0 on Acer Aspire 8943G with ALC670 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/alsa-driver/+bug/839800/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 348522] Re: gvfsd-gphoto2 memory leak
I have a Valgrind log using a wrapper for /usr/lib/gvfs/gvfsd-gphoto2 as Sebastien adviced. However, I have not managed to copy more than a 19MB (RAW photo file), thus I am not sure if it will help. All bigger files (videos) ended up with time out error as the Valgrind memchecks take probably too long (Nautilus seems to require getting a response within 30 seconds after making a copy request). Test run on Ubuntu 12.10 where the memory problem persists - I have tried coppying a 1.7GB video file using gphoto2 protocol in Nautilus (without Valgrind wrapper) and it begun consuming memory right after entering the directory with the video file (for obtaining a preview) - leaving the directory didn't stop raising memory usage - it raised somewhere to 5GB of RAM (used only by gvfsd-gphoto2) after what I closed the Nautilus window - this unallocated all the 5GB of memory. After entering the directory again, there was the video file with default video icon showing no video preview. After pasting the video file into a local directory gvfsd-gphoto2 begun consuming memory again but the Nautilus dialog showed 0 bytes copied. Then after 30 seconds the copy dialog has been closed showing the time out error as with Valgrind (this is new behavior, it didn't happen at least with Oneiric where I was able to copy the file if I had enough memory - so now, I'm NOT ABLE TO COPY A BIG FILE FROM A CAMERA AT ALL). After closing the error window stopping the copy operation, however, gvfsd-gphoto2 continued allocating memory up to the 1.7GB - then all the memory has been freed immediately. Please ask if you need another information, I hope to get this very old issue finally fixed - for now, I'm marking it confirmed. Thank you in advance. ** Attachment added: "Valgrind log for a 19MB file copying" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/348522/+attachment/3406322/+files/valgrind.log ** Changed in: gvfs (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/348522 Title: gvfsd-gphoto2 memory leak To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/348522/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 969165] Re: hdparm: excessive Load_Cycle_Count with some WD "Intelli-Park" HDDs
I have a WD7500BPVT-22HXZT1 and the Load/unload cycle count in disk utility increased from 12,000 to 13,000 within about an hour on battery! hdparm -B doesn't have any effect on the frequency of parking of disk heads up until 254 which completely prevents the heads from parking, nor hdparm -S has any effect on the delay between individual parkings (if it should have any). The drive is a Western Digital Scorpio Blue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/969165 Title: hdparm: excessive Load_Cycle_Count with some WD "Intelli-Park" HDDs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hdparm/+bug/969165/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 916906] Re: When gparted opens mounted internal Ext* volumes will then show as unmounted in nautilus "Devices" & be removed from unity launcher
I can confirm the strange behavior. The ext4 devices show as unmounted in the Devices section in Nautilus when gparted is started and show up as mounted in the Computer section in nautilus (so they are present twice in the left Nautilus panel). I am not able to close gnome-system-monitor the usual way by clicking on the red cross in the top left corner, I have to kill it from the processes list. ** Tags added: amd64 oneiric -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/482680 Title: System Monitor won't close through normal methods, I have to kill the process. [Bug 819537] [NEW] O2 Micro integrated card reader doesn't work at all on Acer Aspire 8943G
Public bug reported: The internal reader in my Acer Aspire 8943G laptop from O2 Micro manufacturer doesn't work at all. It doesn't mount any memory card nor recognize that a card has been inserted (system log doesn't show any new message when I insert or remove a card). I have tried using A-DATA 16GB SDHC Class 6 and a very old 16MB long MemoryStick or whatever it was. I have also tried some workarounds posted all over the Internet including adding "options sdhci debug_quirks=0x40" into a configuration file in /etc/modprobe.d but it didn't work. Somewhere in the Internet, there had been also a linux driver for the O2 Micro SmartCard reader, but I don't really think that it is suitable for my card reader and, anyway, as the driver was quite old, the download link didn't work. I tried Ubuntu Oneiric Alpha 2 daily build today and again, the card reader doesn't react on card insertion at all. [Bug 819389] Re: [fglrx] screen goes black after logging in on ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850
No, with Unity 2D, I can only see the screen redrawing gradually with three colors right after the login (it draws whole screen from top to bottom in a color that I don't exactly remember, then in green and then in blue or aqua) and after that the desktop can be seen normally. I am only experiencing many crash reports regarding aptd I think, unity and zockey indicator (sorry for the names, I do not remember them exactly as I am using Natty now, I could verify them next time I reboot the laptop and eventually take a video of what happens with both Unity 3D and 2D after login) and somehow bizarre look of the dash but I think, it is just Unity 2D's problem as it is probably not well-implemented yet. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/819389 Title: [fglrx] screen goes black after logging in on ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/819389/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 819389] Re: [oneiric] screen goes black after logging in on ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850
** Description changed: I tried to install the fglrx package manually through apt-get as jockey failed during enabling it (see bug #819365). After restart and logging in, the screen went completely black with only a small rectangle where I could recognize the original desktop wallpaper. Some rectangular areas appear for a while when the mouse moves over the top or left panel in Unity and whole desktop (although panels are not displayed properly or at all, only their shadow can be seen) can be seen when a window (like Taking a screenshot or Unlogin) is opened with some rectangular black areas over the window. I also tried to run `sudo aticonfig --initial -f` after the reboot and - additionally, I removed the xserver-xorg-driver-ati and xserver-xorg- - driver-fglrx packages but neither one has any effect after reboot. + additionally, I removed the xserver-xorg-video-ati and xserver-xorg- + video-fglrx packages but neither one has any effect after reboot. [Bug 701294] Re: Always show menu bar for non-maximised windows
I agree too, having the application menu in system panel for non- maximized application windows that are even often far far away from the top left corner where the application menu draws is really terrible, especially if you have to move the mouse cursor all the way using touchpad. For maximized windows it is really useful as it saves some space by a painless way. And as for the graphical side, the fade out effect in long window title that Johannes mentioned seems bad to me too, however, it doesn't appear in menus for maximized windows, thus in those for the non-maximized ones it wouldn't be problem if the menu was in its normal place - under the window header :-) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/701294 Title: Always show menu bar for non-maximised windows To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/701294/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This also happens during boot and login screen - being not able to mute sound or adjust the volume before the logging screen appears (or before you log in) can be fairly annoying when the computer is turned on in a quiet place.
