Just close the issue if you are not interested in fixing it

[Bug 1440210]

2015-05-23 Thread Maarten Bezemer
A workaround (at least fix the frozen desktop) without restarting,
ending sessions, etc. is to switch to another tty (eg tty1 with CTRL-
ALT-F1) and type:

DISPLAY=:0 kwin_x11 --replace

When switching back to the desktop, it is seen restarting and everything
is working again.

[Bug 1345881] Re: [needs-packaging] New package for Utopic: Gazebo Robotics Simulator

2015-02-04 Thread Maarten Bezemer
First of all, thanks for your work on this!

When I try to install your packages on Utopic I have dependency
problems. For example:

$ sudo apt-get install libgazebo3
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 libgazebo3 : Depends: libavcodec54 (= 6:9.1-1) but it is not installable or
libavcodec-extra-54 (= 6:9.11) but it is not installable
Depends: libavformat54 (= 6:9.1-1) but it is not installable
Depends: libavutil52 (= 6:9.1-1) but it is not installable
Depends: libswscale2 (= 6:9.1-1) but it is not installable
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

When looking I see that I have libavcodec56 available to install.

I suppose the package dependencies need to be updated?
Also, I see that the 'official' vivid version uses libavcodec56:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/vivid/libgazebo3

If you put the source in a (public) bzr branch, I am willing to provide
a patch fixing the installation problems.

If not or you are not interested in gazebo for Utopic anymore, I can a
fixed version in my own PPA (backported from the 'official' vivid one).

Kindly let me know what your preferences on this are.

[Bug 1223181] Re: After upgrading to saucy, eclipse crashes in gtk_tree_view_get_background_area+0x8a while debugging

2014-07-24 Thread Maarten Bezemer
I do not think the KDE linked bugs are relevant:
 * They describe other function that crash, instead of
gtk_tree_view_get_background_area+0x8a
 * The KDE bug report say that the problem is fixed (half a year ago) and I
still have the same problem

Also adding gtk-enable-animations=0 to $HOME/.grkrc-2.0 does not seem
to solve the crashes (at least for me)

Choosing another GTK theme seems to 'fix' (more like 'circumvent' probably) the
problem. I use the following to start Eclipse:

$ GTK2_RC_FILES=/usr/share/themes/Raleigh/gt-2.0/gtkrc eclipse

[Bug 1312108] Re: SSL routines:SSL3_GET_RECORD:wrong version number

I closed it, because there is a (simple) option to disallow the use of
TLS, which fixes the problem as I mentioned in comment 2

Furthermore, this is a gnutls problem, I suppose, not a mercurial one..?

[Bug 1310373] Re: Ubiquity crashed after failed installation

2014-04-22 Thread Maarten Bezemer
I *do* know that Windows XP is not supported. That particular partition is
'left over' and is not used for over a couple of years, I guess I'll put
something else on it eventually. It is not part of the problem (ubiquity
handles that partition just fine).
I also *do* know that the problem is that GRUB is not able to store all
required files (core.img) because the first partition starts at sector 63.
(Which I already have fixed).

The *actual* problem is: ubiquity crashed because of an unexpected situation
(GRUB failed to install, not that unexpected I suppose), which should not be
happening!
According to UbiquityDebug.txt some 'Wizard' object tried to access some
attribute 'forwardIcon', which is not available.
This needs to be fixed, to prevent this crash.

Hence I reopened this report and changed the package to ubiquity, so
this issue can be attended and ubiquity can be fixed/improved.

** Package changed: grub-installer (Ubuntu) = ubiquity (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1272247] [NEW] Autocompletion of LVM volume groups, physical volumes and logical volumes does not work

2014-01-24 Thread Maarten Bezemer
Public bug reported:

In order to get the details of volume groups, physical volumes and
logical volumes for the variety of LVM commands the bash completion
script uses vgscan, pvscan and lvscan respectively.

These commands require root permissions, so the auto completion does not
work.

Test case:

  lvextend tab

does not show any completions

A 'solution' (more of a hack) is to add the sudo command in front of these
scan commands (in the completion file).
For example for finding the volume groups:

_lvm_volumegroups()
{
COMPREPLY=( $(compgen -W $( sudo vgscan 2/dev/null | \
sed -n -e 's|.*Found.*\(.*\).*$|\1|p' ) -- $cur ) )
}

When one has used sudo recently (so not login is required) the auto
completion, for the example above, works and shows the correct options.

This is obviously/unfortunately not a solution!

I tried both 14.04 and 13.10 live USBs. I cannot reproduce the problem on

On the other hand, my current installation (as well as previous ones) does have

So I guess it is due the configuration of my user account? Or something I

Any ideas which configuration file(s) I can remove to see whether the problem
vanishes?

[Bug 1071722] Re: Mouse cursor duplicated in dual screen setup

2014-01-08 Thread Maarten Bezemer
I used already the Kubuntu 13.10 and Kubuntu 14.04 live environments in
the test of my previous commit...

I just create a new user account to see whether the issue is (user)
configuration dependent. But this new user account has the same problem.
So I guess it does not have anything to do with the (user)
configuration..?

[Bug 582145] Re: Virtual guests' console is unusably slow due to framebuffer usage

2014-01-08 Thread Maarten Bezemer
On my search to a solution of slow scrolling in my terminals (tty) I
stumbled upon this report.

After upgrading from 3.12.4 to 3.13-rc7 the problem is gone (without
blacklisting additional fb modules).

Note: I'll leave the tags are report status for the Andreas

[Bug 1071722] Re: Mouse cursor duplicated in dual screen setup

2014-01-08 Thread Maarten Bezemer
Comment #11 is about my current installation comment #13 is about the
live environments (booted from USB):

In summary:
I could *not* reproduce it in the live environments of Kubuntu 13.10 and 14.04.
But I 'suffer' from this problem on my currently installed machine (Kubuntu
13.10). It does not matter whether I use my regular user account or a newly
created one.

I guess, the difference between my current installation and the live
environments are installed packages and system configurations (e.g. in
/etc).

2014-01-08 Thread Maarten Bezemer
I do not know... I have this problem as long as I can remember. At a certain
point I got fed up with it and filed the report.
Unfortunately I do not have any Quantal installations available. But II
*suspect* it was already there in Quantal, whether I already had it when I used
fglrx-* or not I dare not to say...

[Bug 1071722] Re: Mouse cursor duplicated in dual screen setup

2014-01-04 Thread Maarten Bezemer
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected saucy

** Description changed:

I have attached a external monitor to my laptop. When I my the mouse
from the primary display (my laptop screen) to the secondary display
(external monitor), the mouse cursor image gets duplicated.

On the primary screen it freezes its last location (so moving the mouse more
quickly, makes sure that the mouse image is clearly visible) and on the
secondary screen it keeps on performing as it should.
When I move the mouse back to the primary screen, the duplicated mouse image
disappears and everything works like normal again.
Funny thing: when the duplication is 'active' the frozen mouse, still changes
it image (pointing finger, 'text thingy', resizing arrows, etc) when I my mouse
(on the secondary screen) is hovering over elements that makes the image change.

Since Ubuntu 12.10 I use the xserver-xorg-video-radeon package, as fglrx
does not support my ATI video card (HD 3650) anymore. So I do not know
whether the problem is also existing pre-12.10.

[Bug 1038522] Re: [kde] manual partitioning in installer crashes when handling many partitions

2013-11-20 Thread Maarten Bezemer
This bug is still present in the Kubuntu 13.10 installer
The patch/workaround provided in comment #23 helped me finish the installation.

I never had any problems while using multiple partitions during the
installation. The thing that got changed is that I (partially) use my
harddisks in a LVM setup. The LVM partitions are shown twice, where the
child item is only usable (and shows the filesystem type). Is this the
expected behavior? If not, could this be a problem?

[Bug 1253460] [NEW] dmraid is not installed for HW RAID+LVM setup

2013-11-20 Thread Maarten Bezemer
Public bug reported:

I am currently trying LVM. My motherboard has hardware RAID controller,
which combines two harddisks (RAID0 I believe, but that does not really
matter)

After circumventing bug 1038522, the installer finished, but when I
booted into the freshly installed system, some LVM partitions were not
available. The partition on which the OS is installed on my new SSD
(which is not part of the RAID array), so that is the reason I guess
that the OS was able to partially boot. The missing LVM partitions are
stored on the RAID array.

After some Internet searching I noticed that the dmraid package was
missing. After installing the missing package (and dependencies) using a
Live CD, the mounting problems vanished and the new installation (from
which I am writing this report) seems to be working properly.

Earlier (when not using LVM) this was not a problem.
I guess the LVM 'masks' the underlying RAID, so the installer did not notice
the RAID configuration (or thinks it is not used).
Resulting the dmraid package not being installed...

I am using the KUbuntu installer as provided on the KUbuntu Live CD
13.10. I do not know whether this is a KUbuntu specific problem, or
whether it also occurs with the Ubuntu installer.

[Bug 1245418] [NEW] Muon updater does not show updates

2013-10-28 Thread Maarten Bezemer
Public bug reported:

When the system tray shows that there are updated available (with the 'gear
icon'), the Muon updater (that is opened when clicked on the gear icon) does
not show the available updates.
Instead it tells when the last check of updates occurred.

When opening Muon itself and select the 'Upgradeable status filter' it
does show the actual updates that were found.

After clicking 'Check for Updates' in Muon, the 'gear icon' shows again
in the system tray. But clicking it still opens muon updater without
showing the updates that are available.

[Bug 1208820] [NEW] Pinning preferences do not override eachother as expected

2013-08-06 Thread Maarten Bezemer
Public bug reported:

When some pinning rules are added in /etc/apt/preferences.d/ the
priority values of the rules that matches first are used.

Take this example:

Package: *
Pin: release n=raring
Pin-Priority: 990

Package: *
Pin: release o=LP-PPA-my-raring-ppa
Pin-Priority: 50

Results in all packages of my-raring-ppa to have a priority of 990.
(This can be 'fixed' by reverting these two sets of pinning rules)

Furthermore, if

APT::Default-Release raring;

is used (default in /etc/apt/apt/config.d/01ubuntu), all raring packages
have a priority of 990 and

Package: *
Pin: release o=LP-PPA-my-raring-ppa
Pin-Priority: 50

is not working anymore to set/lower the priority of the my-raring-ppa
packages to 50.

The latter is quite a problem, as this prevents pinning from working properly
(IMO).
I do not know whether there are two problems
  1) APT::Default-Release is precessed after the preferences
  2) Order of pinning rules is reverse-chronological

, or that both problems have the same origin.

[Bug 1208820] Re: Pinning preferences do not override eachother as expected

2013-08-06 Thread Maarten Bezemer
I read the manpages, but I guess I did not understand them completely...
And I do know that pinning is a highly advanced feature. But when using
experimental packages/PPAs, not using pinning also might break your
system... Hence I wanted to use pinning to prevent automatic updating of
such experimental packages.

If I understand you correctly: When using APT::Default-Release, it is
not possible to add PPAs (for the same release version) with
experimental packages with a lower priority, so these packages are not
updated by default? Or am I still missing something?

[Bug 990097] Re: package libswt-gtk-3-java 3.7.2-2 failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2

2013-05-08 Thread Maarten Bezemer
The actual (related) error from Termlog is:

(...)
Setting up libswt-gtk-3-java (3.7.2-2) ...
update-alternatives: error: alternative path /usr/share/java/swt-gtk-3.7.jar
doesn't exist.

I suppose that (for some reason) swt-gtk-3.7.jar did not get
installed/unpacked properly?

Although unpacking did not seem to go wrong:

The Configure KSudoku menu option properly open the setting dialog in version

I guess it is fixed some time after this report was last updated.

Please update to a newer version of KSudoku and report back if the
problem still manifests (or is solved).

[Bug 1175949] [NEW] Inkscape crashes when changing dash pattern

2013-05-03 Thread Maarten Bezemer
Public bug reported:

When I start inkscape I get a warning
$inkscape my_file.svg

(inkscape:2983): Gtk-WARNING **: Theme file for default has no
directories

When I try to change the dash pattern of a line, the menu directly closes and
the terminal shows:

(inkscape:2983): Gdk-WARNING **: /build/buildd/gtk+2.0-2.24.17/gdk
/gdkpixbuf-drawable.c:1257: Depth of the source drawable is 32 where as
the visual depth of the colormap passed is 24

(inkscape:2983): Gdk-WARNING **: Attempt to draw a drawable with depth
32 to a drawable with depth 24

(These errors are repeated 6 times)

When I reopen the pattern menu again, inkscape crashes:

The program 'inkscape' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.
  (Details: serial 44320 error_code 8 request_code 62 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

It seems to be an error in the GTK2 Oxygen engine, as the crash is
solved when I change the engine to Rayleigh.

[Bug 360724] Re: [RV515] Kubuntu: Corrupted mouse cursor after moving between screens

2012-10-14 Thread Maarten Bezemer
I have exactly the same problem. I use Kubuntu 12.04 (but I experience
the problems for years already), KDE 4.9.2, ATI Radeon HD 5870, fglrx
driver.

On my primary monitor the mouse cursor is corrupted sometimes and on the
secondary monitor it is always looking good.
So by moving the mouse from the secondary to the primary monitor the image gets
corrupted and when moving back it gets fix again...?!

Additional observations:
 * When the problem starts manifesting, it happens for all (both OS and
application) mouse cursor images.
 * Restarting seems to only (temporarily) fix.

I am happy to provide more information, if required. So please let me
know.

[Bug 1061214] [NEW] Dual screen support

2012-10-03 Thread Maarten Bezemer
Public bug reported:

I decided to try lightdm-kde using version 0.1.1-0ubuntu0.1 from
precise-updates repository(on Kubuntu 12.04, KDE 1.9.2), so I logged
out, stopped kdm and started lightdm

It all worked, besides that the login screen/dialog was in the middle of
my dual-screen setup, one half on the first screen and the second half
on the other screen...

I suppose centering the login dialog should be done on the primary
screen, not on the total desktop.

[Bug 1048559] [NEW] Password is needlessly asked on wireless reconnect

2012-09-10 Thread Maarten Bezemer
Public bug reported:

First, I tried to use ubuntu-bug -w and clicked on the window (see
attachment) to report this bug, but it complained about non-official
packages, hence my manual report. So please let me know if there is not
enough information.

The actual report: When I use a wireless connection, it sometimes (needs
to) reconnect. When this happens a windows is displayed (I suppose to
ask for my credentials), see attachment. I have stored my credentials
and turning the wireless off and on, works to reconnect, so they are
correctly stored as well. This is my first problem.

The second problem is with the window itself, as it is obviously of no
use. Clicking OK just reopens it, pressing cancel disconnects the
connection and enabling/disabling 'Show password' does nothing.

You indicate that you have a slow internet connection, but your video showed
that is was downloading quite fast (or did you remove a part?), are you sure
that it is not just grabbing the update from your CD?
I could image that the message telling you that 943M needs to be downloaded, is
intended as '943M needs to be grabbed' (from either the internet or the CD).
If this is the case, the message might need to be adjusted, though

[Bug 661813] Re: upgrade kubuntu 10.04 to 10.10

2012-06-08 Thread Maarten Bezemer
As you describe that your update was (at last) successful and you did not add
any logs or other additional information, it is going to be hard to find out
what was wrong. Especially since it has been a long time ago and you (probably)
do not have any remaining logs left.
Therefore, I am closing this report.

I am closing this report due to its age and your last comment that the newer

problem.
Next time, please file translations errors/problems with the package that is

[Bug 463825] Re: Can't mark 'ubuntu-desktop' for upgrade 9.04 - 9.10

2012-06-07 Thread Maarten Bezemer
Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu. Both Jaunty and Karmic reached EOL
(on October 23, 2010 and April 30, 2011).
See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

According to your logs, you had broken/held packages.
If you still have this issue when trying to upgrade your installation, it would
be the best to backup your data and just install a recent version of Ubuntu
(instead of updating).

I will close this report (due to the EOL of Jaunty and Karmic).
