[Bug 340246] Re: Netbook Remix needs a seperate ubuntu-doc branch

2011-04-30 Thread Mads Peter Rommedahl
Now that Netbook Remix has been merged into Desktop Edition, this is
more of a case of needing documentation on Unity in general, and I don't
think branching docs would make any sense at this point.

If I'm wrong, feel free to reopen the bug report.

[Bug 757294] [NEW] YouTube full-screen freezes the screen, forcing hard reboot

2011-04-11 Thread Mads Peter Rommedahl
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

I often play YouTube videos in full-screen, but sometimes when going
full-screen in Natty, at some point, the video kind of gets "stuck" on
the screen. It continues to play fine to the end, but pressing Escape
doesn't exit out of the full-screen, and by pressing other buttons I can
sometimes see flashes of some of the windows that are in the background
- but I can't exit out of the damn full-screen video and am forced to do
a hard reboot.

This doesn't happen every time I go full-screen in a video though. But
in the last two days, it has happened twice. Last time was with
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=saStFjCBQE0&feature=relmfu

I have previously had issues with my graphics card (an ATI Radeon 5700)
on the Natty beta, so it's possible that it may be related to the
graphics drivers. But for now I'm assigning it to firefox since that's
the app it's happening in.

I've attached some Apport stuff about Firefox just in case.

[Bug 618132] [NEW] Crashes at boot - "init: plymouth-splash main process (586) terminated with status 1"

2010-08-15 Thread Mads Peter Rommedahl
Public bug reported:

Hi. I've just upgraded to maverick alpha 3 in order to test if another
bug was fixed.

Unfortunately, now I cannot boot into Ubuntu at all, as it crashes
halfway through boot - both in normal and recovery mode.

I tried recovery mode and wrote down everything that appeared on the
screen. It was:

udev[349]: SYSFS{}= will be removed in a future udev version, please use
ATTR{}= to match the event device, or ATTRS{}= to match a parent device, in
/etc/udev/rules.d/01-mountmanager.rules:6
udev[349]: BUS{}= will be removed in a future udev version, please use
SUBSYSTEM{}= to match the event device, or SUBSYSTEMS{}= to match a parent
device, in /etc/udev/rules.d/01-mountmanager.rules:6 (these appeared with

/dev/sda5: clean 318493/4096000 files, 9640602/16358178 blocks

init: plymouth-splash main process (586) terminated with status 1

I can currently only boot my Win7 partition. The Ubuntu one crashes every time,
so I'm not sure how I can debug this further...?

[Bug 610607] [NEW] [regression] [lucid] Internet disconnects itself seemingly at random, unable to reconnect

2010-07-27 Thread Mads Peter Rommedahl
Public bug reported:

My internet has worked flawlessly for years with Ubuntu with no
connection problems whatsoever.

In the last couple of weeks (I'm not sure exactly when it started), I
have been starting to lose the connection every now and then.

What happens:
I'm browsing the internet, when suddenly NetworkManager tells me that I've lost
connection. It attempts to reconnect, but after attempting reconnect for
approx. 30-40 seconds, it suddenly pops up and asks me to check if the network
key I've entered is correct (which it is). If I re-enter it, it retries to
connect, but again returns and asks me to enter network key. It keeps repeating
this cycle until it just gives up and disconnects.

If I reboot the computer everything works fine again

lspci states that my adapter is '05:01.0 Network controller: RaLink
RT2800 802.11n PCI'

[Bug 63352] Re: Creative labs X-Fi sound card unsupported

2010-06-13 Thread Mads Peter Rommedahl
@tneijsel, the internet is full of messages about failing X-Fi cards, yes, but
they're all likely to be several years old, and all the problems have since
been fixed. That's a strange argument.
Anyway, judging from your lspci, the card is detected correctly - this bug
was/is about X-Fi cards not being detected at all. Obviously, that problem is
solved.
I suspect that your problems have nothing to do with this bug. But hey, maybe
ALSA is the problem - have you tried OSS?

[Bug 63352] Re: Creative labs X-Fi sound card unsupported

2009-08-02 Thread Mads Peter Rommedahl
Im pretty sure that there won't be any backporting of this to jaunty. I
seem to recall reading a statement from a dev somewhere that backporting
the kernel for this would require too much work (it's not really a
*blocker* per se) - and with karmic only a few months away I doubt that
it is worth the hassle.

I've waited for this for several years - I can wait two more months (or,
well, I can't, but that's what alpha builds are for, right? :)

I agree with this proposed change, as I have witnessed many newcomers

weirder in Danish).

...but AFAIK the term 'mount' is used a billion places in GNU/Linux

I get the exact same error, and my iPod is an 80 GB, which has always worked on

Also, Banshee cannot read it as it is 'not mounted by HAL' (but I assume that's
just because Nautilus is unable to mount it).

[Bug 262806] Re: [Intrepid regression] Lagging sound with OSS

2008-09-27 Thread Mads Peter Rommedahl
** Summary changed:

- [Intrepid regression] No sound with OSS after upgrade
+ [Intrepid regression] Lagging sound with OSS

** Description changed:

- After upgrading to Intrepid Alpha 4, I have completely lost sound.
- In Hardy I used OSS to get my Creative X-Fi sound card to work with Ubuntu -
with the upgrade, it seems to somehow have failed.
- I tried booting with the old kernel, but then the whole thing jammed, said
something about conflicting sound drivers and froze the computer.
+ After upgrading to Intrepid Alpha 4, I have very lagging sound, which
+ sometimes disappears altogether.
+
+ The problem appears (to me) to be CPU hogging or something like that -
+ i.e. I can sit and watch a movie in Totem fine, but the moment I decide
+ to start Firefox, or receive a message in pidgin, while the movie is
+ playing, the sound disappears. I then have to wait for the drive
+ activity to die down before I can continue with the movie/sound.
+
+ In other words: Next to nothing must run while Totem/OSS is running in order
for the sound to work.
+ Annoying indeed.

Since I am unsure whether this is a bug in the kernel, in OSS or
somewhere else, I'll report it here.

Ok, I'm back on Intrepid.
To say that upgrading to intrepid is 'breaking' OSS is not entirely true. The

[Bug 263974] Re: Kernel upgrade to 2.6.27-2 breaks nVidia graphics card detection

2008-09-08 Thread Mads Peter Rommedahl
eteq: Yes, I was trying to find a way to update my graphics driver to
the newest version, and I was told over IRC that I should use EnvyNG.
That was with the 'old' (2.6.27-1) kernel. Maybe that's where the
problem was.

However, I have since uninstalled EnvyNG, but the problem persists: a
task called "nvidia (xxx.xx)" fails at boot. Actually, it has worsened
because now the nvidia-task even fails on 2.6.27-1 - meaning that now I
cannot get a proper resolution with ANY kernel!

I tried reinstalling EnvyNG, but now I cannot start it anymore - it
crashes on startup!

Hi Leann

Unfortunately, due to bug 263974 I am currently unable to test the
2.6.26 kernels on Intrepid. I hope that one gets fixed soon.

But also, it's my suspicion that this is either GStreamer or Banshee's
fault (though that doesn't explain why this only happened after
upgrading to Intrepid...)

[Bug 262806] Re: [Intrepid regression] No sound with OSS after upgrade

2008-08-30 Thread Mads Peter Rommedahl
...and it didn't. After a reboot today I've discovered that the sound levels
are completely garbled in Intrepid.
The ossxmix mixer has the volume slide turned all the way up, but still only
produces the same sound levels as they did when they were turned halfway up in
hardy.
This (I guess) leads to that when I play music in Banshee, I get a lot of noise
in the music (the kind of noise that you usually get when you try to push the
volume levels beyond their borders) - however, I had no such problem in Hardy,
so this is definitely a regression.

[Bug 262806] [NEW] [Intrepid regression] No sound with OSS after upgrade

2008-08-29 Thread Mads Peter Rommedahl
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to Intrepid Alpha 4, I have completely lost sound.
In Hardy I used OSS to get my Creative X-Fi sound card to work with Ubuntu -
with the upgrade, it seems to somehow have failed.
I tried booting with the old kernel, but then the whole thing jammed, said
something about conflicting sound drivers and froze the computer.

Since I am unsure whether this is a bug in the kernel, in OSS or
somewhere else, I'll report it here.

I think maybe the best thing to do would be to relay the question to the

[Bug 232166] [NEW] Macedonian translations missing in Dapper and Feisty

2008-05-20 Thread Mads Peter Rommedahl
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: scrollkeeper

This is really not a new bug, but according to bug 137088 Makedonian
translations are still not available for Dapper and Feisty. While this has been
fixed for Gutsy and Hardy, I still don't find it fair to just ignore the older
releases (since we are still supporting them, officially at least). It was
suggested in a comment that a new bug report be opened for the old releases, so
I decided to do that.
Keep in mind that I don't speak Macedonian and I don't have Dapper or Feisty
installed, so I personally may not be able to help very much in the fixing of
this bug - subscribing the original bug reporter.

[Bug 63352] Re: Creative labs X-Fi sound card unsupported

2008-04-21 Thread Mads Peter Rommedahl
Personally, I'd sure as hell recommend avoiding the Creative ALSA driver - I
tested it yesterday and it caused a kernel panic on my gutsy. It was only
because I could use recovery mode to login as root and delete the driver again
that my system survived, as gutsy started crashing on boot due to the Creative
driver.
Just go with the OSS driver for now...

I've got the same problem - At the Ubuntu-boot, after the graphical bar has
finished loading, the black screen enters (the one with 'Setting system clock',

All goes fine until 'Activating swapfile swap' - the system hangs, and doesn't
get any further.

I was able to escape the problem by pressing ctrl + alt + del, but this
seems like an ugly bug to me.
