[Bug 1850064] Re: Please upgrade it to 68.x on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS

2019-11-04 Thread Martin Dünkelmann via ubuntu-bugs
Okay, I will stop and just answer your message.
And it is just my opinion about the disadvantages of snaps.

And I don't address developers who maintain everything.
But I address the developers who think they can throw a snap into the snap
store and doesn't put in updated dependencies. These developers exist.

And deprecated? Since a LTS distribution must ship updated versions with bug
and security fixes?
I don't speak about the shiny new and maybe buggy major version updates, I
speak about the bug and security fixing patches.
You install a deb and used third party libraries standard shipped in the
distribution get maintained by the distribution maintainer. And the developer
is forced to update his application to remain compatibility.
You install a snap and you can hope that the snap guy puts effort in updating
third party in his snap.

And again, I don't address every developer.

[Bug 1850064] Re: Please upgrade it to 68.x on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS

2019-10-31 Thread Martin Dünkelmann via ubuntu-bugs
We always prefer a repository package over Snap.
Snap takes more storage space and forces us to run an application with
deprecated and security breaking libraries just because a developer doesn't
want to test his application with the newest dependencies.

Now my laptop connected to dockingstation connected to (the monitors and) the
usb hdd hub connected to my HDD did go to standby.
I slept the night.
Next day I detached it from the docking station and connected the usb hdd hub
with my directly to it before waking it up.
User session died.

Maybe error in DRM i915 by intel causes this weird behaviour.

Put my laptop into standby, decouple from docking station, 6 hours later
wake up and user session destroyed.

Maybe it is this bug?
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1802578

I see "kernel: [drm:intel_display_resume [i915]] *ERROR* Restoring old
state failed with -22", too.

Sometimes I boot the ThinkPad T460p, put it into sleep, wake it up and only
receive a blackscreen until I hardreset the laptop with the power button, last
time all happen without AC power I recognize now.
I don't know if it was coincidence.

  $ uname -a

  Ubuntu 18.04 / Linux Mint 19.1

In the journalctl I recognize DRM errors.
I put it in sleep 11:xx o'clock and woke it up 14:xx o'lock.
Then I got these DRM errors and did need to hardreset it. (Documented as
REBOOT in the log).

I assume that my 3 bug reports (this, docking station, user session crash)
are related to the nvidia driver in combination with the ubuntu kernel?
  Or just coincidence.

[Bug 1818974] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 Kernel 4.18 - Standby wakeup user session crash

2019-07-22 Thread Martin Dünkelmann via ubuntu-bugs
Sorry, I think I translated it wrong. The menu entry is named "Bereitschaft",
which means standby / suspend.
The stuff gets saved into the RAM, not the storage drive/disk.

Done.

I think I can reproduce it, if I hibernate in the Kodi application shutdown

Still getting the issue in 5.2.
Do you think I should still test the Ubuntu HWE 5.0 for 18.04?

[Bug 1818974] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 Kernel 4.18 - Standby wakeup user session crash

2019-07-13 Thread Martin Dünkelmann via ubuntu-bugs
Thank you for your help.

4.18.0-25-generic kernel:
The last 2 times I put my laptop over night into sleep mode via the Kodi menu
and woke it up the next day I got the bpfilter and my user session was killed.

5.2.0-050200rc7-generic kernel:
Now I made a short test, put it into sleep mode via Kodi, did wait 20 minutes
and woke it up without problems.

It may be coincidence, I may should wait longer or test it over a longer
time period.

I'm only running LTS ubuntu versions with HWE, should I test it with
5.0, too?

[Bug 1818974] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 Kernel 4.18 - Standby wakeup user session crash

2019-05-23 Thread Martin Dünkelmann via ubuntu-bugs
Very weird.
I detached the awake laptop from my docking station, then i worked with it
without attached power supply.
I watched something without using my laptop.
My laptop turned into standby.
Then I woke it up and the screen was just black, but the power LED indicated a
awake laptop.
Only a forced shutdown by pressing the power button until ended this bug.

I don't know if it is the same bug.

I wanted to use my computer again, I left on the thinkpad docking station,
connected with the same external HDD.
I got only a black screen on the main monitor and the other two monitors didn't
got an image signal.

PS:
I am running now the intel gpu driver as default, it seems it uses the nvidia
gpu automatically in games.
This black screen behaviour looks new to me.

Sorry to write another message, but I can't edit the previous one.

I updated my GPU driver from 415 to 418.
My kernel from linux-image-4.18.0-16-generic to linux-image-4.18.0-17-generic
No fix.

[Bug 1820243] Re: linux-image-4.18.0-16-generic breaks Lenovo T460P on Ultradock

2019-04-08 Thread Martin Dünkelmann via ubuntu-bugs
My display manager is lightDM.
How can I set it to debug?
And with "syslog" you mean you mean journalctl ?

Here are two DMESG now.

Connected with dock -> standby -> disconnect -> wakeup -> usersession
lost.

Disconnected with dock -> standby -> connect -> wakeup -> black screen
and nothing happens, maybe a display flash after a long waiting time.

The first dmesg I have made again with timestamps.

Today I did put my laptop in standby.
Disconnected it from my dock.
Woke it up.
It worked.
I did put my laptop in standby again.
Connected it with my dock.
Woke it up.
Black screen.
Was forced to restart it by a hard reset.

Are #31 and #25 enough?
or do you miss something else? :)

If i don't forget it I can make it a third time.

#4 and #26 are containing journals too.

I am using 4.18 since -v15 because it crashed often before -v15.
If I remembered correctly it was "https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1818974; but
happened more often.

But now it was forever at "Started Bpfilter" until I switched to the
terminal screen and executed a shutdown.

[Bug 1818974] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 Kernel 4.18 - Standby wakeup user session crash

2019-03-22 Thread Martin Dünkelmann via ubuntu-bugs
It starts to happen more often.
The symptom is a black screen with only "Started Bpfilter", a blinking cursor
and a long waiting time, before showing the login screen.

And I have a HiDPI Monitor, but i lowered the resolution to a normal one for
14".
But if this problem happen, the monitor has the 2k resolution at login, while
the login window itself has my lowered resolution.
Meaning a little login screen attached to the left upper corner of the screen
and the unused rest of the screen is just black.
