[Bug 277034] [NEW] Evdev keyboard setting not working correctly
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xkeyboard-config I tested the latest alpha release because of the input-hotplug stuff (and possible problems) mentioned here: http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/intrepid/alpha6 What I found is that the keyboard did not work out of the box but that I can get it to work properly (on GNOME), but not if I follow the official instructions. Here's what I did: $ sudo dpkg-reconfigure console-setup Keyboard model: Evdev-managed keyboard Origin of the keyboard: Germany Keyboard layout:Germany - Eliminate dead keys AltGr key replacement: Right Alt Compose key:No compose key Encoding: UTF-8 # Latin1 and Latin5 - western Europe and Turkic languages Console font: VGA 16 The only thing I'm not 100% sure about is the evdev- managed keyboard model, do I need to set this here too? The rest should be fine. In GNOME I set "evdev managed keyboard" and the layout "Germany eliminate dead keys". Result: some keys not working. Those include ^, ~, `, '. I first thought the 3rd level modifier was not working but I could use @ and €, and ^ is first level for example. So I experimented a bit and found when I set the keyboard to the 105intl one instead of generic- evdev it works perfectly in GNOME. On the console however, it does not. I cannot type ^ or ~ or @ or €. The 3rd level modifier seems to be completely dead. Well, sometimes it even moves the cursor one character to the left before it inserts the 1st level character of a given key (for ~ I get "+" for example). I have tried some other settings but have not yet found one that works correctly on the console. Please first take a look at my console-setup config above and clarify if "Evdev-managed keyboard" is the right model. ** Affects: xkeyboard-config (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Evdev keyboard setting not working correctly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/277034 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 153755] Re: [Gutsy] Synaptic has different "main icon" instead of one
Ugh... The problem here is that the icons should *not* be in the tangerine theme. Putting them there means the right icons will show up (in the menus) for users of a) the tangerine theme and b) the human theme. But all other users (using gnome-icon-theme, tango-icon-theme or any other theme not based on tangerine) will never see the icon. The solution is to either use icon spec names or let the synaptic package install the icon into hicolor, where every theme can access it. Is there a reason why you don't want to use the "system-software- install" icon provided by the icon spec? There's mo spec name for the update properties icon so that has to be shipped with the update manager's package. As I just noted on bug #153350, adding a "blacklist prism54" can be used as a workaround for this. [Bug 153350] Re: prism54 does not work - need to use p54pci and p54common
I think I am seeing the same problem with my sister's PC. It is using one of those softmac cards and Gusty tries to load the old prism54 module. dmesg says "irq line busy", this is normal with this driver. I then blacklisted the prism54 driver and on the next boot it loaded another driver (prism54pci or something) which worked without a problem then. How do you plan do fix this? [Bug 40521] Re: Tango Artwork
Wrong! 1.) gnome-icon-theme also follows tango guidelines 2.) network manager installs it's current set of icons to hicolor/, and that is where those tango icons should be put instead. This way, all themes can inherit the tango icons. I don't really know why this is not being done upstream, but perhaps RedHat doesn't want those icons in SVN. Anyway, for themes like GNOME, Tango, Tangerine and Human, those icons would be a great improvement. -- Tango Artwork https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/40521 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 40521] Re: Tango Artwork
Putting them into tango-icon-theme-common doesn't help people who don't use a tango-based theme like the default gnome theme. All the other distributions just patch the network manager applet package to ship this icon set instead of the ugly fedora icons... [Bug 111454] Insane CPU usage with compiz
Public bug reported: I installed Ubuntu Feisty on my old PC which is now used by my sister. Everything worked great until I enabled desktop effects (compiz). Things went very laggy, like windows only redrawing 1-2 times when moved across the screen. This was strange, as I had compiz working great previously! I checked "top" and found the reason: after starting compiz (like that: compiz --replace gconf) the evoltution-data-server-2.10 process uses up about 60% of the CPU, constantly! Killing that process or removing the "Evolution Alarm" from the session (and not starting evolution at all) fixes the problem! So I suppose somethings very woring with eds on feisty. For reference, I use the nvidia-glx driver shipping with feisty on a geforce4 card. ** Affects: evolution-data-server (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Insane CPU usage with compiz https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/111454 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 71348] Re: Dom0 crashes upon start of second DomU
I've seen the crash too (Core2Duo T6600) and the only way to work around it for me was to completely remove all of Ubuntu's Xen stuff and install the latext Xen 3.0.4 from source. Before, it would freeze when starting the 3rd guest, now I can run as much as I like. -- Dom0 crashes upon start of second DomU https://launchpad.net/bugs/71348 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 80605] TLS/NTPL Problem with Edgy initrd and Xen
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: initramfs-tools When starting Xen 3.0.4 domains (both dom0 and domU) on Edgy I see the following warning: *** *** ** WARNING: Currently emulating unsupported memory accesses ** ** in /lib/tls glibc libraries. The emulation is** ** slow. To ensure full performance you should ** ** install a 'xen-friendly' (nosegneg) version of ** ** the library, or disable tls support by executing ** ** the following as root: ** ** mv /lib/tls /lib/tls.disabled** ** Offending process: init (pid=693) ** *** I installed libc6-xen to get rid of this (it should provide the nosegneg stuff) but it didn't work. I then executed the described command but that too didn't fix the problem. Ilooked a bit deeper into what's causing this and it seems to be a problem with the initrd: if I boot a domU system without the initrd it will naturalyl not be able to use features like ext3 filesystem but the warning is gone. I don't really know what the cause is but it seems to be something with the libc that is used in the ramdisk. Can someone tell me more and perhaps have an Idea how to fix this? ** Affects: initramfs-tools (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- TLS/NTPL Problem with Edgy initrd and Xen https://launchpad.net/bugs/80605 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 61176] Re: Inconsistent use of Icons
I'm a big fan of the tango project, I really like the guidelines and the resulting icons. Tango icon theme is really nice, so was Tangerine. And the new Gnome icon theme is even better. So I'm all for getting more of the deskop tangofied. BUT: I never understood why tango was used as a fallback for human, the two styles doen't fit each other. Ubuntu having it's own visual identity, blah blah... yeah I can understand that but the Human theme is miles behind both tango-icon-theme and gnome-icon-theme... and it's not following the tango guidlines. Do you really plan to do Human icons for all those apps which have tango themes right now like (as travis mentioned) Gimp or OOo? IMHO Ubuntu would do best with the following: reuse Human again for edgy but drop it after that release in favour of a small add-on icon theme which inherits most icosn from the default gnome theme. This way ubuntu could get its identity (color of folders etc) but still fit with the majority of upstream artwork. -- Inconsistent use of Icons https://launchpad.net/bugs/61176 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
