[Bug 1970090] Re: Backintime not launching because of python error
@fantu, yes: if I didn't anyhting wrong, I currently have the fix package from https://launchpad.net/~fantonifabio/+archive/ubuntu/ubuntu-fixes installed. For your information: before your package, I had installed the fix package from https://launchpad.net/~bit-team/+archive/ubuntu/stable mentioned by @ventusfahrer above in this thread. Not sure what is the difference between these two packages but, as far as I can see, they apparently produce the same outcome: in both cases, backintime-qt only starts for root user if invoked using sudo from the command line, not from the .desktop launcher. For clarity, Here's the full story of my attempts so far: ATTEMPT 1 Eager to resume daily backups of my main home PC after the recent Ubuntu 22.04 fresh install: 1.1 I added https://launchpad.net/~bit-team/+archive/ubuntu/stable repository using the Ubuntu "Software and Updates" tool. As usual, repositories got updated when I hit the "Close" button. 1.2 Using the Synaptic tool, I "Completely remove"d backintime-qt, then I reinstalled it. 1.3 To test the fix, I clicked on the "Back In Time (root)" desktop launcher. Outcome: Backintime not launching. 1.4 In the command shell (Gnome Terminal), I issued commend "sudo backintime-qt". Outcome: Backintime launched normally. Sorry that it didn't occur to me to test non-root backintime, since I do not normally use it. Now, at least, I could access and use the Backintime's GUI as root again, almost as I did in Ubuntu 20.04, but only launching it from the command line. Not much satisfacory. But now I started getting a number of "WITH ERRORS" snapshots mixed with successful snapshots, which may or may not be related to the unofficial fix I had installed. Having no better options I decided to keep it, waiting for an official fix. ATTEMPT 2 Hoping that your fix is brings some progress, I decided to remove the one from bit-team and install this one. My steps: 2.1 sudo add-apt-repository ppa:fantonifabio/ubuntu-fixes 2.2 sudo apt update 2.3 In the "Software and Updates" tool I unticked https://launchpad.net/~bit-team/+archive/ubuntu/stable repository. As usual, repositories got updated when I hit Close button. 2.4 Using the Synaptic tool, I "Completely remove"d backintime-qt, then reinstalled it. If I'm not wrong, now the new fix has completely replaced the previous one. 2.5 To test the fix, I clicked on the "Back In Time" .desktop launcher (non-root user). Outcome: Backintime GUI launched normally 2.6 I clicked on the "Back In Time (root) .desktop launcher (root user). Outcome: Backintime not launching. 2.7 In the Gnome command shell I issued command: sudo backintime-qt. Outcome: Backintime GUI launched normally. Now, if I may, I wish to share one general consideration: it is good for the @ubuntu change acceptance procedures ("SRU"s?) to be accurate, strict and therefore slow, provided that this guarantees consistent, bug-free distribution packages. But if, for any reasons, the @ubuntu team cannot afford any more the resources to keep their commitment to high-quality standards, which seems to be the case with Ubuntu 22.04, I would expect that change acceptance procedures be also adapted consistently, so they do not come across and discourage the efforts by outside collaborators to remediate with the needed speed and agility. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1970090 Title: Backintime not launching because of python error To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/backintime/+bug/1970090/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1970090] Re: Backintime not launching because of python error
@fantonifabio: as a normal Ubuntu user, unaware of the official Ubuntu dev/test/release lifecycle but eager to have this bothering bug finally fixed, I have tested your fix at the best of my understanding as follows: 1. sudo add-apt-repository ppa:fantonifabio/ubuntu-fixes 2. sudo apt update 3. clicked on the "Back In Time" desktop launcher (non-root user): success -> Back In Time UI displayed 4. clicked on the "Back In Time (root) desktop launcher (root user): failure -> nothing visible happens 5. Issued command: sudo backintime-qt from the command shell: success -> Back In Time UI displayed, configured with my existing profile. I think the difference is the scripts invoked by the two desktop launchers: /usr/bib/backintime-qt and /usr/bin/backintime-qt_polkit respectively. What is wrong with the latter, it's hard for me to tell. But I hope this can help your debugging. However, I agree with @ventusfahrer's assumption that backintime-qt 1.2.1-3 was never tested for Ubuntu 22.04: if it had, the incompatibility with Python 3.10 would have been discovered immediately. So, having to test anyway, why not test Backintime 1.3.2 right away? I think that, at this point, upgrading Backintime to 1.3.2 could not lead to a worse situation than we are facing now. So I urge Canonical team to go for it. Overall, as an Ubuntu's fan since 2010, I feel depply disappointed in seeing Ubuntu 22.04, the latest LTS release, coming out with untested packages and undiscovered bugs, just to honor the announced deployment deadline: a delayed release of a fully-tested system is preferrable, in my opinion, to a timely release of a buggy one.
I join fantu and lastique in urging fix 1.3.2-0.1 to be ported to Ubuntu 22.04: - because 22.04 is an LTS, bound to include a serious, hassle-free, powerful and yet easy-to-use backup tool such as backintime-qt. - because backintime-qt is far more feature-rich and flexible than the default Ubuntu “Backup” solution (for example it supports “backup as root” from the GUI out of the box) and it is a pity seeing it broken by this late-discovered bug. By the way: because of the above, I wish that Canonical selected backintime-qt as Ubuntu’s default backup solution, instead of the current simple but poor “Backup” app.

[Bug 1909012] [NEW] my display are disappeared with I used libreoffice or other software
Public bug reported: I was using libreoffice writer while, pasting an image and printing it, the screen went black while I was moving the mouse, the menu of favorite programs remains clearly visible on the sides of the screen and at the top the bar with the clock in the center and on the right side the internet connection, audio volume and shutdown lights. [Bug 1292398] Re: Second screen position isn't saved from one session to another
Hi Daniel, I did some testing because I seemed to be affected by this issue on Ubuntu 20.04. In fact I first used the script from bernaerts mentioned above (#4 for instance). Anyway I disabled its startup before these tests, I mentioned it to clear the ground. So I followed your instructions in #147: everything seems to work, the two monitors.xml are identical and the configuration is correctly applied on my system. Then I tested some different real use behaviours, as I am working with a laptop attached to a TV and I not always have them connected, but most importantly I only use the TV to watch videos, while in normal use I prefer to work on my screen only. So I started with a new monitors.xml, setup the dual monitors (Join Displays) view, and then tried: 1. unconnecting the TV "on hot", then connecting it again 2. the same, but logging out and in between the two steps 3. turning off the computer as it is, unconnecting the TV, restarting, and connect the TV at some point 4. switching the configuration to Single-Display, then activating dual view again In cases 1-3 the configuration is back as expected, so everything ok. In case 4 the configuration is lost. This is because in 1-3 monitors.xml is unaffected (a monitors.xml~ is instead created and apparently used; not sure how that is handled), whereas in 4 it is overwritten and the TV is not only marked , but its whole configuration (X,Y, scale, etc.) deleted. This might seem trivial, but I originally expected the single-display configuration not to interfere with the dual one in case 4 just as in the other ones. 4 is quite a usual behaviour of mine, and maybe not only: 1 and 2 are not recommendable (in fact, in one case the X session crashed); 3 is surely correct, but 4 might also be quite likely - a monitor/TV is physically connected, but used only at times (e.g., for watching movies or for particular tasks), so one would switch it off and want windows not to open there. Expecting the system to understand that "Off" does not mean "forget its configuration"... I think more people here fall in this kind of behaviour (surely #143 and likely #114), which is not really an issue of the configuration not being loaded, but rather a 'bad managing' of different situations -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1292398 Title: Second screen position isn't saved from one session to another To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/elementaryos/+bug/1292398/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1724895] Re: MTU not applied on private ethernet interfaces
Still broken on 18.04.3 with netplan 0.98-0ubuntu1~18.04.1 and systemd 237-3ubuntu10.31. With dhcp set to false, use-mtu seems to be useless. The only affordable workaround I found is to create an override .link file that only matches by mac address and set the MTU. For example: [Match] MACAddress=aa:bb:cc:dd:ee:ff [Link] MTUBytes=9000 saved as /etc/systemd/network/10-cmonsystemdsetmtuforme.link. Reboot (maybe also "systemctl restart systemd-networkd" works) and mtu should be set. Ok I fixed the problem on my system. This has nothing to do with libglvnd but I don't know to which package it should be attributed. [Bug 1375215] Re: System runs out of memory - white screens frequently seen in web renderers
Hi Olivier I'm experiencing the same problem mentioned by Marcos, from 2/3 OTAs now. In my case you don't even need to return from another app, it happens while driving. [Bug 1461386] Re: pm-powersave is not triggered when unplugging charger
Update: I seem to have solved the problem tweaking the udev commands as follows: SUBSYSTEM=="power_supply", ATTR{online}=="0", RUN+="/usr/sbin/pm-powersave true" SUBSYSTEM=="power_supply", ATTR{online}=="1", RUN+="/usr/sbin/pm-powersave true" this way pm-powersave is executed every time a power source change happens, allowing the if/else statement i put in the custom script to take care of the rest. I don't know whether this is a long-term solution, but it seems to be working so far. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1461386 Title: pm-powersave is not triggered when unplugging charger To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pm-utils/+bug/1461386/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1422143] Re: No wifi connection after suspend with systemd due to missing "wpa_cli suspend"
I confirm the bug is present on my Dell XPS13 (2014) under Ubuntu 16.04 as well. I also confirm that Prashant L Rao's solution seems to have solved the sleep/restore problem. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1422143 Title: No wifi connection after suspend with systemd due to missing "wpa_cli suspend" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hundredpapercuts/+bug/1422143/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1461386] Re: pm-powersave is not triggered when unplugging charger
Still present in 16.04. Also: are custom pm files still allowed? It took me quite some time to tune my XPS13 to perfection, it would suck if I had to throw everything out of the window now.
