Thanks James, Upstream haven't been publishing changelogs for hulahop (just indicating bugs fixed in release announcements) - I'll ask them to do so. Luke, it needs abiword to be built in a modular way to produce a libabiword package, which python-abiword would need. I spoke to abiword upstream (uwog) and it will probably happen for the next major abiword release. [Bug 277770] Re: Please sync sugar 0.82.0-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main).
Debian do not want to provide the sugar-activities metapackage. In the hardy packages, this is produced by the sugar sourcepackage. My intention is to add the metapackage back to debian's sugar package once we have it synced - unfortunately it is a deviation but a very minor one. In the long term, we will have more activities (apps) packaged in Debian (and some are only in Ubuntu but we will submit them to Debian) and then having a metapackage that installs *everything* will no longer be appropriate, but upstream is producing a set of activities which are developed in tight coordination with the Sugar platform, called Fructose, whereas other activities are community-developed on their own schedule (and code-named Honey). This is reflected on our https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SugarTeam/Packages page. So in intrepid+1 we may replace sugar-activities with sugar-fructose as a metapackage which pulls in the upstream blessed activities. For now I would prefer to continue using sugar-activities as a patch carried over from the hardy packages - but we will continue working with Debian to feed our patches and suggestions back to them and minimise the delta. [Bug 274820] Re: Sugar feature freeze exception
norsetto, I have pulled the debian packages into my PPA: https://launchpad.net/~morgan/+archive - the only changes I made were changing the maintainer to me in debian/control since it wouldn't upload without an ubuntu.com address. (Initially I uploaded for hardy, so I reuploaded for intrepid to make sure the packages were built against intrepid.) The hardy sugar sourcepackage produces three binary packages whereas debian's doesn't - the extras, sugar-emulator (installing just one file /usr/bin/sugar-emulator and depending on xephyr) and sugar-activities (a metapackage) are trivial to add in debian/ so I can do that as soon as we sync. sugar-hulahop is the one problem now since it requires python-xpcom 1.9, and we only have python-xpcom built off xulrunner (1.8) not xulrunner-1.9 so I have logged bug 277564 for that. sugar-hulahop is a dependency of the web browser, sugar-web-activity, so that won't work unless this is fixed, but it's just a packaging issue for xulrunner-1.9. Cesare, we have packaging of newer upstream components in a PPA, following the existing hardy packaging: https://launchpad.net/~chapter78/+archive. That doesn't change package names or binaries. While we have been working more closely with the debian maintainer recently, it might be more risky to switch to the debian packaging and maybe we should update the current packaging with the latest upstream stable (slightly newer than this PPA - see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SugarTeam/Packages where I have listed all the versions). I'll update the Sugar Team PPA to this latest upstream packaging in the next few days and we can evaluate that. [Bug 274820] Re: Sugar feature freeze exception
I am an upstream developer and have been involved in the Sugar 0.82 release, so I'm very familiar with the upstream source. I am the direct upstream maintainer of sugar-chat-activity, sugar-read-activity, sugar- pollbuilder-activity and co-maintainer of sugar-presence-server. I will discuss what Jani has raised with the Debian team. We have some activities packaged that they don't yet have, although in most cases there have not been significant updates since the hardy versions, so that's not a significant problem. I'll see if we can get those activities into Debian. At this point, Ubuntu is considered the best platform for people to use for Sugar besides OLPC's XO. This is due to the hardy packages, as well as the PPA that I mentioned. I would hate to see that regress. Admittedly I am new to deb packaging, although I have in the course of working for OLPC become a fedora maintainer for several of the Sugar components, and am confident that I'll master the deb packaging in short order. -- Sugar feature freeze exception https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/274820 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 213906] [NEW] python-central postinst failed: terminator is not installed
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: python-central Background: Some time ago I read an article about terminator, with a download link. The download link turned out to be for the package in hardy/universe, and it would not install on gutsy because it depended on a newer python-central. I aborted/removed it (or so I thought.) I upgraded from gutsy to hardy on 7 April, using update-manager. At some point things started failing with a message like: Could not install python-central: subprocess postinst returned error exit status 1 This caused a whole lot of other things to not install (gnome-panel etc) as they depended on python. I eventually completed the upgrade in a terminal. When I tried to upgrade python-central manually, it reported: pycentral: pycentral pkginstall: package terminator is not installed. I installed terminator from universe, and then upgrading python-central succeeded - and I could install the failed packages and complete the upgrade to hardy. ** Affects: python-central (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- python-central postinst failed: terminator is not installed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/213906 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 200700] Re: openoffice en-za missing Export to PDF dialog text
Craig, oO.o doesn't have translations in launchpad, and launchpad doesn't have en_ZA anyway, so this broken langpack comes from upstream. You're the most relevant person I can think of who can help us fix this. There must be strings missing - or worse, messed up - in the en_ZA langpack. How can we fix? I'd hate to see this problem still in hardy - I've had it since feisty. -- openoffice en-za missing Export to PDF dialog text https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/200700 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 200700] [NEW] openoffice en-za missing Export to PDF dialog text
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: openoffice.org-l10n-en-za When exporting to PDF from openOffice.org Word Processor, most of the text does not render on the resulting dialog box. Removing openoffice.org-l10n-en-za and keeping openoffice.org-l10n-en-gb solves the problem - the text does appear. [Bug 180304] Plugging in AC while screen dimming for screensaver locks X
Public bug reported: If I unplug AC to my laptop, and leave it idle to go into the screensaver, and plug AC in again *while* the screen is fading to black, I get into a state where I can move the mouse pointer around a black screen but can't get a password dialog or any other way to get out of screensaver mode. [Bug 43961] Re: Power down after shutdown does not work...
Let me state my experience again which corresponds to the bug status in the different kernel versions for Dapper, Edgy and Feisty: Dapper could not power off or reboot for me. (Sony Vaio VGN-S460) Edgy could reboot but not power off for me. Feisty can reboot and can power off - fixed for me. Reading recent comments on this bug, it's not clear whether people are complaining about Feisty - which would be a legitimate cause for concern - or about Edgy (or Dapper) which are not fixed. (And unlikely to ever be fixed.) [Bug 93619] Re: java alternatives are not updated with the package, causing dangling symlinks
Is this scenario not a candidate for some update-manager magic? [Bug 86504] Re: Shutdown, Hibernate, and Suspend Not Working
I have the same issue, I think. Shutdown is similar to a reboot - the computer appears to power off completely, but a second later it boots up again. Hibernate does the same. This is on a platform we hope to hardware certify for Feisty - if we can solve this problem. There is no page https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelSuspendDebugging ?
