[Bug 275929] [NEW] Compiz doesn't allow me to move windows beyond the upper limit of the screen

2008-09-29 Thread Muelli
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

With metacity I can move windows beyond the upper limit by pressing Alt
while dragging a window. This is very convenient on my rather small
screen. Compiz doesn't allow me to do that, instead, it stops moving the
window when reaching the upper border.

ProblemType: Bug

DistroRelease: Ubuntu 8.10
Package: compiz 1:0.7.7+git20080807-0ubuntu10

The issue still persists. But if I start with a newly created user, it
works. When copying the .gconf/ folder over to the old account, the
up-key works again. I diffed the .gconf/ folders but didn't find any key
that made it work. I probably didn't search hard enough. I do have the
old gconf folder in case anybody is interested in debugging this
further. I started over with a fresh ~/.gconf/ folder and hopefully
didn't forget to migrat any important setting. Having that said, it's
pretty annoying to have to clear the configuration data in order to get
a working desktop.

Cheers,
  Muelli

[Bug 275964] [NEW] Kile doesn't allow to reorder Tabs

Sounds promising. Is it perfectly reproducible?
Which kernel version does this happen on?
I'm not familiar with kernel debugging techniques, but I'm confident
that the Ubuntu Wiki contains information about that. Also, Leann might
have information on how to further debug that.

I consider it a bug, that it doesn't do it by default, though.
Maybe it's just a GConf key one could set in the Schema.

[Bug 34150] Re: Cannot switch between tabs with Ctrl-Page up/down

2008-09-30 Thread Muelli
I'm affected by this bug as well.
It's really disturbing my workflow, since gedit behaves differently from other
apps such as gnome-terminal.
Having that said, I consider this a bug (with low severity though) as it's a
bad and not consistent userexperience.

In order to argue upstream about that, do you have any references handy?

[Bug 276347] [NEW] gnome-panel needs two clicks on "Allow Panel to be moved" in order to move the panel

2008-09-30 Thread Muelli
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

I want to move my panel from one screen onto another (after gnome-panel
decided itself to appear on a different screen, but that's another
story) and I can't move it out of the box. I'm fine with that as I've
discovered the "Allow Panel to be moved" context menu item. Although I
clicked it, it wasn't movable. Another right-click revealed, that it
obviously didn't recognize my first attempt to allow it to be moved.
After clicking that menu item a second time, I could move it.

So I expected the panel to be movable after my first click and I
consider it a bug that it silently ignored my first attempt.

After I clicked it twice, I can disallow and allow with one click.

[Bug 276356] [NEW] compiz creates windows with the decoration not visible if move plugin enabled with Y constraint off

2008-09-30 Thread Muelli
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

If the move plugin is enabled and the Y constraint option is set to off
to allow it to move windows beyond the upper limit of the screen, compiz
creates new windows (e.g. new Firefox windows or new Gajim chats) at the
upper border, hiding the window decoration under the gnome-panel.

I expected the window decoration to be visible as it's the case when the

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdegraphics

When reading a document wiht KPDF, I can scroll down by pressing the
space bar. I can't, however, scroll back up with Shift+Spacebar. I
consider this a bug, as I'm used to do that with Firefox, Evolution et.
al., and the Shift key is generically used to "invert" key presses. E.g.
you can press Tab to iterate over all Fields in a widget and you can
reverse the order by pressing Shift. Thus I expect KPDF to behave the

Congrats :)

But please consider using
gcontool-2 --recursive-unset /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/

instead of removing the directory because gconf is a caching deamon and
unexpected bahaviour may occur if you delete the directory yourself.

[Bug 267113] [NEW] Kile doesn't recognize a table* environment

2008-09-06 Thread Muelli
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kile

There is a minor bug in Kile 2.0.1: In the left "structure" pane, it
recognized table environments, but doesn't recognize table*.

To reproduce, create a new document and enter the following code:
\documentclass[a4paper,10pt,twocolumn]{scrartcl}
\begin{document}

\section{foo}
\begin{table}
 test
\end{table}

\begin{table*}
 test
\end{table*}

\end{document}

Then open the "structure" view in the left pane and see the section "foo" and
the table in line 5 recognized correctly, but not the table*.

A table* is supposed to span more than one column in multi-column mode.

[Bug 292744] [NEW] evince crashes (in cairo?) on viewing a PostScript file

2008-11-02 Thread Muelli
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

Evince 2.24.1-0ubuntu1 as well as evince-svn r3250 crash on my ubuntu system
(maybe in cairo or libgs) while viewing a PostScript file.
It doesn't crash with evince-2.22 and r3250 on a fedora machine. Thus I think
it's an Ubuntu specific issue.

To reproduce the crash, open the attached file with evince, ensure, that
the first page doesn't fit on to screen by zooming into the page. Then
scroll down and see evince crashing.

Some apport doesn't get triggered on the crash (in
/proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern is "core" not apport, but I dunno why), so
I attached a debugger on my jhbuilded evince:

[Bug 292800] [NEW] run.sh shellscript doesn't accept parameters with whitespaces

2008-11-02 Thread Muelli
Public bug reported:

The generated run.sh contains a minor error which makes qemu break on
whitespace containing arguments like -cdrom path/to/my isos/linux
distro.iso

The patch is simple:

--- old/run.sh 2008-10-26 22:41:59.0 +0100
+++ new/run.sh  2008-11-02 22:29:07.0 +0100

 #!/bin/sh

-kvm -m 128 -drive file=disk0.qcow2 $@
+-kvm -m 128 -drive file=disk0.qcow2 "$@"

Though that should be in the generating code of course.

[Bug 301874] [NEW] iwlagn crashes kernel with NetworkManager after resuming from Suspend to RAM

2008-11-24 Thread Muelli
Public bug reported:

My Ubuntu with kernel-2.6.27-7 crashes with an enabled NetworkManager
after Resuming from Suspend To RAM.

To be clear: It doesn't crash immediatly, but it shows Oopses in dmesg
and the system behaves strangely: Processes can't be started or
terminated, shutdown doesn't work, ...

I don't experience this everytime, but roughly every second attempt to
resume fails.

I'll attach two dmesg output from different suspend-resume cycles.

Please let me know if I can provide any information.

2008-04-28 Thread Muelli
Public bug reported:

I resumed from a suspend to RAM. I'll attach dmesg, uname -a, lspci and
/proc/version_signature.

I had bluetooth enabled and had established a serial connection over bluetooth
which I didn't release when suspending. I have used that connection as a modem
with wvdial.
I also mounted an ftpfs over FUSE which I didn't unmount before suspending.

FWIW: The kernel is rather unstable on my machine. It often freezes hard
when dealing with Bluetooth or the sd-card reader in my Lenovo x61s.

This issue is pretty reproducible, so please let me know if I can provide
further information.

The issue itself reflects in the following piece of dmesg:

I'll attach my full dmesg for reference.

To reproduce this, I basically start bluetooth:
> sudo modprobe hci_usb
> sudo /etc/init.d/bluetooth restart
> gnome-obex-server&

and open a serial connection:
> sudo rfcomm release 1
> sudo rfcomm bind 1 DE:AD:BE:EF:23:42
> sudo wvdial

I'll then do a curlftps or disable wireless, but I dunno whether this
relevant for this issue.

I'll try the new kernel in a minute.

Eh, it wouldn't dare to do anything with a corrupt file, would it? I
thought, every package would be pgp signed. If it tries to touch a
corrupt file, it's clearly a bug. Even a security related one.

Also: Why wouldn't it tell me, that the file is corrupt and ask me to
manually download the file?

 > and/or remove it and retry the install.
How do I do that? Also, is there a reason, why I'm not asked to have
that file deleted?

Cheers

[Bug 317563] [NEW] caff doesn't send emails via SMTP with my From address

2009-01-15 Thread Muelli
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: signing-party

I configured caff with
$CONFIG{'email'}   = 'm...@address';

and I'm trying to send the signed mails.

Caff does, however, use "u...@hostname" as the FROM address in the SMTP
dialog, which makes it impossible for me to send the signed-keys.

I expected it to use the $CONFIG{'email'} as FROM address and not my
u...@hostname.
Also there is no way to configure that.

A workaround is to either use ssmtp or configure the smtpd that it
doesn't barf on a malformed FROM address. Both are a hassle to setup and
to maintain. I'd love to have a simple CAFF option for that.

[Bug 326903] [NEW] resuming from suspend leaves desktop unusable: No wigdets at all

2009-02-08 Thread Muelli
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

If I suspend and resume my machine while the gnome-screensaver was
active (i.e. it has locked and blacked the screen and suspend was
initiated through the Keyboard, i.e. Fn+F4 on my Thinkpad), the machine
is unusable: After entering my password, I am presented an empty
desktop, with only my background image visible. There was no single
widget visible, the mouse was moveable though.

Suspend and resume works perfectly if I suspend w/o the g-ss active
(i.e. the screen is normally accessible and neither locked nor blacked).

I couldn't switch to a virtual terminal but I could SSH into my machine.
I tried a "gnome-screensaver-command --exit" and it didn't return.
strace revealed, that a read() blocked. It tried to read on fd 3 which
is a HAL socket. I don't remeber the name though.

I had to reboot my machine in order to use it again, as I wasn't able to
recover the widgets.

I consider this a bug with a high severity as I potentially lose my
unsaved data.

[Bug 320709] [NEW] linux-2.6.28-4-generic with iwl4965 Oopsed after resuming from suspend: warn_on_slowpath

2009-01-23 Thread Muelli
Public bug reported:

I am using linux* from jaunty on an intrepid base system on a Thinkpad
X61s. I had troubles before (see my other bugs against the kernel like
bug #309604) and I thought, I'd give the new kernel and the new intel
uCode a try.

But the kernel doesn't, however, survive a suspend2ram :( I consider
this a real bummer, especially because the system is almost unusable
after that.

It oopses, probably on reconnecting to my Wifi.

Hm. Can't reproduce either this time. Strange. I was very confident,

I'll attach the dmesg output after booting, suspending to RAM and resuming. I
can use my system after that oopses, but I can't shutdown properly, because
some processes can't get killed, e.g. ALSA.

Please let me know if I can provide further information.

[Bug 386720] Re: Evince crashes when saving a non-writable file

2009-06-15 Thread Muelli
I have provided a beautiful stacktrace. Also, this bug is perfectly
reproducible. I invite you to try it yourself. In fact, apport doesn't
show up and although it says, "core dumped" I don't see any core dump.

mue...@xbox:/proc$ cat sys/kernel/core_pattern
|/usr/share/apport/apport %p %s %c
mue...@xbox:/proc$

I am thus reopening. Note that it doesn't crash with evince-2.24 on my
fedora-10 machine.

[Bug 388914] Re: Gajim-0.12.3 crashed with SIGSEGV in PyObject_RichCompareBool()

2009-06-23 Thread Muelli
The first attempt to reproduce failed with:
/usr/share/gajim/src/conversation_textview.py:401: GtkWarning:
gtk_text_layout_get_iter_location: assertion `GTK_IS_TEXT_LAYOUT (layout)'
failed
  self.tv.scroll_to_iter(end_iter, 0, False, 1, 1)

But next time I tried, it hogged the CPU and sent this to stderr:
gajim.py:3572: GtkWarning: gtk_accel_group_activate: assertion
`GTK_IS_ACCEL_GROUP (accel_group)' failed
  gtk.main()

I pkill -SEGVd gajim and here's the report with installed debug symbols
for python-2.6, pygtk and pygobject and uploaded the report to bug
391086.

[Bug 391116] [NEW] unusable error message when rebasing

2009-06-23 Thread Muelli
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnuit

I tried to rebase interactively and I picked "sick" instead of "s" for a
commit. The error message is the following:

mue...@xbox:~/vcs/gnome/gnome-games$ git rebase -i HEAD^^
Unknown command: sick 24a0486 squash
Please fix this in the file
/home/muelli/vcs/gnome/gnome-games/.git/rebase-merge/git-rebase-todo.
mue...@xbox:~/vcs/gnome/gnome-games$

I fixed it in the file and now what?
I don't consider it a good user experience if a program leaves me in the dark.
I have expected it to tell me what to do in order to get the rebase done.
