[Bug 1776873] Re: Whitelisted allowedURLschemes breaks some desktop apps

2021-11-24 Thread Nec
Hello,

This bug is not solved at all. After having hit it (xubuntu 21.10, Chromium
96.0.4664.45, snap2.53.2, I still can not open .vmrc URLs.
When looking at the master git repo here :
https://github.com/jdstrand/snapd/blob/5190924a895e6344b57e9670727bf079d014dbe3/usersession/userd/launcher_test.go#L78
one read that the whitelisted allowedURL schemes are still hard-coded.

Seriously?

2017-10-19 Thread Nec
Hello,

As I'm witnessing the exact same issue and workaround, but in the Oracle Linux
world, I'm reporting the same issue.
On my nodes, the package is : resource-agents-3.9.5-105.el7.x86_64

My 2 cents...

Peace.

[Bug 1271833] [NEW] quota.postinst : Wrong quota detection in /etc/fstab

2014-01-23 Thread Nec
Public bug reported:

Hi,

In /var/lib/dpkg/info/quota.postinst, in the "configure" case (line 126), quota
usage detection is weakly searched.
This is done so :
fs=`awk '/quota/ {print $2}' /etc/fstab`;
assuming the only presence of the word "quota" is meaning one wants to activate
quotas.

Some filesystems like GFS2 allow the following usage : "quota=off", in
which case one doesn't want any quota related action when installing
some other packages. (Some other are using the keyword usrquota. Well,
YMMV...)

(I was bothered by some buggy postint apt quota actions when installing
unison, which is completely unrelated.)

May I advice enhancing the quota usage detection in the quota.postinst
in order to restrict it to the case one really want to activate it?

My setup :
- Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
- quota 4.00-3 implementation
of the disk quota system
- Linux 3.2.0-24-generic #39-Ubuntu SMP Mon May 21 16:52:17 UTC 2012 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Regards.

[Bug 1190696] Re: updatedb.mlocate uses 100% of the hdd IO. The OS is completely unusable.

2013-10-21 Thread Nec
Hi,

I found out that playing with ionice nor nice did not improve anything
in that case. (that also was VERY severe to me)

The issue came from the fact that my computer mounts some remote
filesystems, and find and locate went exploring those distant folders.

I solved the problem by changing /etc/cron.daily/locate and adding the
"xdev" options to the find parameters.

# Global options for invocations of find(1)
FINDOPTIONS='-ignore_readdir_race -xdev'

Now, updates are still relevent, but cause no CPU harm nor wasted time
:)

[Bug 1066376] Re: keyboard doesn't work to enter password with panda and encrypted partitions

2013-02-19 Thread Nec
Hi,

Sorry, but : I still have the same problem.

My laptop is a Dell Latitude E5510 with a docking station, running Xubuntu
Quantal 64 bits, and it has external USB mouse and keyboard.
I'm using this same harware for a long time, and I upgraded every release since
say 10.04 or before.
I never had any problem, but I payed closed attention to the following fact :

- When using a 3.4.0-030400rc6-generic kernel, everything was fine.
- Since updating to 3.5.0-17-generic, problems began.

I don't have any encrypted partition, I'm using Xubuntu, but googling
around for a while lead me to say this is the same issue. I'm not an
expert but I read something has changed with hid-generic, some naming or
some module inclusion (...?...).

At every new kernel release, I installed them and tried them, but the symptoms
are still the same :
At boot time, my mouse and my keyboard are OK in the bios setup and in grub.
After that, the kernel is booting and the system loading, but then, my keyboard
and my mouse become non responsive :
- the laser of my mouse is on, but no cursor move
- the leds of my keyboard are on, but even switching on/off of caps lock is non
responsive
Unplugging/plugging does not help. Even on other usb ports.

I'm using initramfs-tools version 0.103ubuntu0.2.
I tried to add things in /etc/initramfs-tools/modules
 :
hid_generic
hid-generic #I wasn't sure of the typo, I tried both
usbhid
hid
mac_hid

I have MODULES=most in initramfs.conf

Every time, I updated the initramfs this way :
update-initramfs -u -k 3.7.0-030700rc2-generic
as this is the last kernel I have so far.

Every reboot on this update kernel lead to the same end : no keyboard
not mouse response.

So, until a workaround comes to work, I'm still stuck with a
3.4.0-030400rc6-generic kernel. Not that bad, but I was wondering what
non-geek users would have done in my case.

I'd be very very glad to help experts to test any solution they would
propose.

I just upgraded recently to Precise.
Do I read that well : in order to solve a bug on this transcode software, are
you asking me to upgrade my operating system to a new one that has not been
released yet?
Don't get me wrong, but this could be taken as surprising.
I really want this bug to be solved, and I'm ready to install a VM with a very
fresh Quantal, but on this issue, we're not speaking about a bug, we're
speaking about a software that almost does not start at all, and I'm surprised
so few people have noticed it.

[Bug 533862] Re: gthumb crashes on launch

2012-04-18 Thread Nec
The issue I'm experiencing is not the same, but I see many similarities
that leads me to explain it here and propose to re-open this bug.

Context :
- Xubuntu Oneiric
- gthumb 2.13.1-1ubuntu1
- /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libgio-2.0.so.0.3000.0

>From times to times (sorry, I can't be more precise), trying to click on a
>picture icon, or using the right click dropdown 'open with gthumb' from Thunar
>or PCManFM, in the hope GThumb would open, lead to a fail :
nothing appears, gthumb is not launched, and
/var/log/kern.log tells me :
gthumb[2849]: segfault at 74 ip 0032fc63 sp bf9f15d0 error 4 in
libgio-2.0.so.0.3000.0[2fa000+142000]

This single line clearly appears as soon as I try the action described
above.

May you please re-open this bug?

[Bug 727092] Re: Samba is not built against CTDB

2012-03-15 Thread Nec
Hi,

How do Ubuntu Server sysadmins do to use the mainstream Ubuntu package system
to obtain a cluster-enabled Samba with CTDB?
This bug (and my experiments) prove there's no way (except using Dan's work).

I don't understand why this bug has low importance?

[Bug 497035] Re: MIR for ctdb

Hi.
Let's suppose ctdb move to main again.
Would that be a way to lead Samba maintainers to re-activate clustering and
ctdb configure options at build time?

[Bug 942166] Re: Stabilizing: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/transcode/import_ffmpeg.so: undefined symbol: avcodec_init

2012-03-11 Thread Nec
According to what I'm reading on http://tcforge.berlios.de/, there seems to be
a lack of developers on the TC team.
Does this mean this bug will never be solved?
Or is this only a packaging issue?

[Bug 942166] [NEW] Stabilizing: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/transcode/import_ffmpeg.so: undefined symbol: avcodec_init

2012-02-27 Thread Nec
Public bug reported:

While running the first pass of a stabilizing command :

transcode -J stabilize -i input_mjpeg.avi -y null,null -o dummy

transcode seems to launch well, then crash by saying :

[...]
[export_null.so] v0.1.2 (2001-08-17) (video) null | (audio) null
[import_raw.so] tcextract -x pcm -i "input_mjpeg.avi" -d 0 | tcextract -a 0 -x
pcm -d 0 -t raw
transcode: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/transcode/import_ffmpeg.so: undefined
symbol: avcodec_init

and an empty (0 kilo) .trf file gets created.

Here are the details I can give :
- Ubuntu 11.10 oneiric 32 bits
- transcode 3:1.1.5-0ubuntu9

I was expecting a .trf file to be filled with data concerning stabilization to
be created.
I'd be glad to give you any further needed details.

[Bug 301353] Re: HP Pavilion dv5: ATA exception on resume from suspend [FIXED]

(HP pavilion dv7-1103ef)

Three (!) years after discovering this bug, I finally took the time to unplug
my hard drive, install another hard drive, install this marvellous OS : windows
vista, then run the HP bios updater.
Then unplug the temp drive, replace the original and beloved ubuntu drive, and
test :

THIS IS F*G WORKING!
Suspend and hibernate are working smoothly.

Hi,

Thank you on comment #18 for the answer, but when trying to understand
what was best to do, I tried that instead:

start on (local-filesystems and started cups)

and :
- it IS working

What comes smbd should wait for something else than cups to solve *this*
