[Bug 1872870] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 latest update mouse pointer leaves square trails on desktop
Hi there @guiverc thank you very much for the response. I filed the bug using the automated 'ubuntu-bug' program and I'll admit it's a crappy bug. I've updated it with a concise problem description and steps to reproduce. As to which package it's in, could you please give me any advice on how I would know? I'm not familiar with Gnome's internal architecture, so it's impossible for me to guess whether the issue might be with Mutter, the compositor, the window manager, or the Heisenburg compensator. I've re-read that standard debugging wiki page in detail, and it doesn't bring me any closer to understanding how I can dial this problem in any further. You'll note that 12 others have reported they're experiencing this issue. I suspect anyone who's using a large monitor and tries to use Zoom will encounter it. I'd have dropped this long ago and resigned myself to using Windows, but I think making Ubuntu accessible to the visually impaired is important, because even if you're not disabled like me *everyone* will lose visual acuity as they age. Again, thank you for your response and all the work you do for Ubuntu! ** Description changed: - Can't capture a screenshot of it because the square cursor leavings - don't show up in the capture. + Problem: + + When you turn on Zoom from the Accessibility menu, the mouse leaves + square shaped trails as it moves. + + Steps to Reproduce: + + 1. Hi Ted! I'd upgraded from 19.10 myself. I haven't heard of any response, and while I tried to research the problem (I have a fair set of tech chops) I got lost in the weeds as to even which subsystem in particular I should be reporting it under, much less what steps I could take to put some more technical meat on the bones of this issue. [Bug 1799180] Re: Ubuntu 18.10 / Linux 4.19 -rc7/8/Final - System slows / stops
apport information ** Description changed: Hi there folks sorry if it's inappropriate to report a bug in an upstream release candidate kernel, but as a suggested test / fix for https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1796743 I was told to install an upstream kernel, which I did. When I run with that kernel for any length of time, or do anything involving high CPU (like run Firefox for instance) the system fan begins to whine and the system slows down to the point where it finally hangs. Hi Will! Just wanted to follow up with some good news and maybe something you folks can use to help fix this one should it ever come around on the guitar? :) I found I was able to get Gnome to start up correctly on boot if I just add this line to the [daemon] section of /etc/gdm3/custom.conf: WaylandEnable=false I added that as a comment to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1796614 If I have more time I'd love to dig into the C code and figure out what about Wayland detection is failing - the Alienware 17 R5 has the Nvidia GTX 1080 as well as the Intel graphics chipset for longer batter life when not gaming / doing high end 3D. I wonder if the Wayland detection is getting fouled up on that? Anyway, I am loving 18.10 now that I have the issues ironed out. [Bug 1795637] Re: No login screen when booting Cosmic due to plymouth racing with the rest of the boot process and not releasing DRM devices in time
Hi there! I'm looking for suggestions on further testing I can do to disambiguate the situation I'm seeing from this bug. I reported https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1796614 which was marked as a duplicate of this bug. However, I now have this package installed (Output of apt policy below), and I am still seeing a blank screen with a blinking cursor at initial boot, but can flip to a different VT, login and run startx and everything functions normally. Am I A) Mis-understanding what I need to do in order to test this fix, or B) missing some other subtlety that would lead to my expectations that this bug should go away to be invalid or C) in fact observing a different bug altogether that isn't a duplicate of this one? Any hints anyone can throw my way would be very much appreciated. If I press the power/Alien button, the fan runs and the keyboard/trackpad light up but nothing happens. Ultimately I need to hard power off the laptop (by holding the power button in for three seconds) which causes it to boot from scratch. [Bug 342070] [NEW] No provision to reduce contrast for a laptop
Public bug reported: I am unable to adjust the contrast on an HP laptop, and have not seen any solutions in the forums. Viewing photos with Image Viewer or F-Spot viewer, photos are washed out in bright areas, as if blooming. Same problem for videos under VLC player. In Vista, this also occurred, and the ATI Catalyst software contrast adjustment fixed it. There is a keypad adjustment for brightness, but nothing I can find for contrast. I don't see any reference to a software adjustment under Ubuntu. I have experimented with Gamma, but it does not have the desired effect. The system is a DV7-1232 with an ATI HD 3200 video card. It is configured as a Vista home premium and Ubuntu Intrepid dual boot. Lspci shows: “01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RS780M/RS780MN [Radeon HD 3200 Graphics] ”. The screen is a 17” brightview. I followed the instructions at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RadeonDriver#Tweaking%20The%20Driver , but did not modify xorg.conf, as the instructions say “From Ubuntu 7.10 and onwards, the driver and server autodetect most settings. You can often just take away your xorg.conf and it will run fine”. I did try to edit the xorg.conf file, but made an error, and reloaded my backup. My /etc/X11/xorg.conf looks like this: # xorg.conf (X.Org X Window System server configuration file) # # This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using # values from the debconf database. # # Edit this file with caution, and see the xorg.conf manual page. # (Type man xorg.conf at the shell prompt.) # # This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only* # if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg # package. # # Note that some configuration settings that could be done previously # in this file, now are automatically configured by the server and settings # here are ignored. # # If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated # again, run the following command: # sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg Section Device Identifier Configured Video Device EndSection Section Monitor Identifier Configured Monitor EndSection Section Screen Identifier Default Screen Monitor Configured Monitor Device Configured Video Device EndSection Incidentally, I did not notice a contrast setting in the ATI fglrx driver when I experimented with it. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- No provision to reduce contrast for a laptop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/342070 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
