2010-04-07 Thread Paul Wagland
To work around the problem, I moved the files in /var/lib/dpkg/updates
to the side, installed both of the packages plymouth-theme-text and
plymouth-theme-ubuntu-text, then moved the previous files back. At this
point, everything worked as expected. I suspect that this means that
somewhere there is a missing dependency on plymouth-theme-ubuntu-text.
It is only recommended by plymouth, but if it is not installed, then it
causes other issues.

[Bug 327195] [NEW] gxemul 0.4.7.1 has been released

2009-02-09 Thread Paul Wagland
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gxemul

It would be nice if 0.4.7.1 could be included. Upstream (Debian/Sid)
already has 0.4.7, however 0.4.7.1 was released on 2009-02-07 with the
following fixes:

The changes between release 0.4.7 and 0.4.7.1 are:

* Applying a man page hypenation patch from Jonathan Wiltshire.
* Minor documentation errors fixed.
* Some more missing M88K instructions added.
* NetBSD/hpcmips can now be installed and run using serial console (i.e.
without -X), in addition to using the framebuffer.

Just a me too. When I run evolution, it randomly crashes. I have also
submitted bug 265958 and bug 256981 for other crashes. I think that they
may be related, however, all of the stacktraces are different. It might
just be a timing issue as to which one comes across bogus data first.

others that I can find. This may be related to the fact that the new
Exchange connector is extremely fragile, as reported in bug 256958 and
bug 252605, and in turn may be related to the upstream bug

[Bug 256958] Re: evolution-exchange-storage crashed with SIGSEGV in get_folder_contents_online_func()

2008-08-11 Thread Paul Wagland
I am not sure that this is the same problem, as that was reported
against a very different version of the software, and this is quite a
new problem for me. I believe that this was introduced in 2.23.6, and is
actually an instantiation of the problem that I linked to in the first
comment.

Cool. Any ETA on when this might get made into an ubuntu package? I just
need to know whether to downgrade, or wait a few days for the fix to
turn up.

Thanks,

[Bug 204010] Re: networking not working

2008-04-21 Thread Paul Wagland
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 218126 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/218126

Marking as a duplicate of bug 218126, since that bug is the same as
this, and has had a fix committed. I am not sure if this means that a
fix will make it for Hardy, but I am hopeful.

2008-04-20 Thread Paul Wagland
I can confirm that this fix does work for me. Thanks Hirano!

Could this please be released in time for Hardy, since this makes the
difference between an essentially useless DomU and a working DomU. See
Bug 204010 for the types and numbers of people that have been affected.

[Bug 204010] Re: networking not working

2008-04-20 Thread Paul Wagland
Hirano, I can confirm that your images fix the problem for me. I hope
that this fix can be implemented for Hardy, since it is a kernel change
that only affects the XEN kernel, and turns the xen kernel from having
non-working networking to having a working networking stack.

Thanks for chasing this down Hirano!

[Bug 204145] Re: bacula-director script broken

2008-03-21 Thread Paul Wagland
The script is broken since it appears to be expecting bash instead of
dash. That is why the if is broken.

Secondly, the log_daemon_msg appears to have been replaced with
log_begin_action_msg in ubuntu, causing the second error.

I can confirm that the current package is broken.

[Bug 199296] [NEW] The asix driver is not up to date, and does not work

2008-03-06 Thread Paul Wagland
Public bug reported:

The xen kernel is missing the fix to make the asix driver work again:

http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commitdiff;h=94d433630a1e63d383d592d488f60581e0d98190

Perhaps more amusingly, it actually has the inverse of that patch, since
the stock kernel does have this fix, and the xen patch removes it.

Removing that portion of that patch and rebuilding the kernel allows my
FA100 to work properly under xen.

What is happening with this issue? It is quite serious, as it introduces
a) regressions and b) non-POSIX compliance.

Looking at the fix myself, it only appears to add the upstream fix to
this issue.

Unfortunately, this problem is not readily reproducible for me.

One question that I do have, on that wiki page it talks about installing

However, is the dbg package the same as the dbgsym package? If so,
should I update the Wiki for that?

that you will need to look at xencons=xvc, or at least that is what I

download it however I have a lot of e-mails in my inbox, and this is

[Bug 119997] Evolution decodes ISO-2022-JP incorrectly.

2007-06-12 Thread Paul Wagland
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

When evolution shows a message in the ISO-2022-JP character set it
incorrectly starts decoding as 'JIS X 0201-1976 (Roman set)' instead
of as ASCII. The specification (RFC 1468) says that text starts in
ASCII, and only switches to Japanese characters through an escape
sequence. The Roman set is considered to be Japanese for this
discussion. For the most part, this does not matter, as The Roman
character set of JIS X 0201 [JISX0201] is identical to ASCII except for
backslash () and tilde (~). The backslash is replaced by the Yen sign,
and the tilde is replaced by overline.

That is, given the mail message:

--_=_NextPart_001_01C7ACC7.8B7C4F65
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-2022-JP
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit

next.url=http\://go.to.there/

It should be displayed as:

next.url=http\://go.to.there/

However, evolution incorrectly displays it as:

next.url=http„://go.to.there/

The easiest workaround is to start eclipse like so:

Since then it cannot find mozilla, and then does not try to load (and
crash). Unfortunately, for me it only happens when I use the Mylar
plugin, as that is the plugin that tries to load firefox, if I start in
a view that does not have mylar enabled, then eclipse does not crash.

[Bug 112925] Re: eclipse crash, when spawning browser

2007-06-04 Thread Paul Wagland
Just to add a new data point here. I was also having this problem, and I
had the following JDKs installed:

Sun Java(TM) Development Kit (JDK) 5.0
ii sun-java6-jdk 6-00-2ubuntu2
Sun Java(TM) Development Kit (JDK) 6

Originally, I was using Java6 as my default, but, based on some people
seeing the problem and some not, then I did:

sudo update-java-alternatives -s java-1.5.0-sun

And eclipse no longer crashes, for me at least. Could anyone else who is having
this problem also try this? That way at least we can work out where the problem
is. But it appears to me that it is an interaction between Java 6 and Firefox
that causes the issue.

[Bug 101895] Re: [apport] gnome-keyboard-properties crashed with SIGSEGV in g_list_foreach() when trying to add new layout.

2007-04-02 Thread Paul Wagland
This has been tagged 'need-amd64-retrace', however the trace I gave is
from an AMD-64 system. How do I generate what is needed? Do I need a
special debug version of the packages or something?

[Bug 95071] Re: Nvidia-glx 9755

2007-03-27 Thread Paul Wagland
Ah... my appologies, I saw it on the first list, and only noted that it
was on the page in the second... totally skipping the no longer
supported bit... As Brian says though, there is another ticket to cover
getting the 9631 drivers added.

[Bug 96304] Please upgrade NVIDIA drivers, current ones don't work for me.

2007-03-26 Thread Paul Wagland
Public bug reported:

This is not a duplicate of bug 87896, that one is talking about the
current version of the package not being properly installed in some
fashion, in particular that the nvidia.ko module is not being properly
created.

This bug is that even if that bug was solved, the 9631 drivers do not
work with my motherboard/video card combination, whereas the newer
stable 9755 drivers do work.

To state it more clearly, the 9631 drivers do not produce video on my
setup, even assuming that they are installed correctly. Bug 87896 is, as
far as I can tell, that the 9631 drivers are not installed correctly. I
need the 9755 drivers for my video card to produce video.

If I manually download the 9755 stable drivers from Nvidia and install
them, then my video works perfectly. However if I use the 9631 drivers
that are currently included in Feisty then GDM will not start, since X
will not start.

In light of this, I would like to ask that the Nvidia drivers be
upgraded to the latest stable version.

Thanks in advance,

[Bug 95071] Re: Nvidia-glx 9755

The driver is _meant_ to work with Geforce 2 and 3 cards:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/IO_18897.html
http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86_64/1.0-9755/README/appendix-a.html

As I mentioned in bug #96304, I need these newer drivers for them to
work with on my video card (a 6150). Have you seen this problem
elsewhere? I quick look through the nvidia forums
(http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=14order=desc) did
not show up this issue anywhere else... but I may just not have known
the exact terms to look for...

Of course... I spoke to soon. I just went off to do some serious work,
and was trying to setup my terminals in the one true way and gnome-
terminal crashed when I opened up a new tab.

I can reliably make it crash now by setting my terminal to maximised
(for me 209x73) and then opening tabs. By the time I have two tabs of
that size open then gnome-terminal will crash. If I leave it at the
default of 80x24 then it appears that I can open as many tabs and/or
windows as I wish.

[Bug 54002] Re: LVM/MD root filesystem not found by uuid

2006-08-17 Thread Paul Wagland
This could also be considered a problem with the initramfs, and not with
udev.

The problem is actually with the /init file in the initramfs, it
converts a UUID=* entry into a ROOT entry of /dev/disk/by-
uuid/${ROOT#UUID=}. This is needed, since the mount command included in
the initramfs does not understand the -U (mount by UUID) option. This,
combined with the fact that udev does not create /dev/disk/by-uuid/
entries for LVM partitions means that booting with an LVM root is not
possible without modifying the grub boot entry.

This also explains why mount with the UID specified in the fstab works,
as this uses the more advanced non-initramfs mount that does know how to
deal with UUID=* entries.

Hope this helps towards a solution, since this is a really disastrous
bug, that prevents LVM root systems from booting. Even worse, because of
the new tendency to fix initrd images when initramfs-tools are
improved it can even break a running system and make what used to work
stop working.
