[Bug 1172008] Re: Big Black B Buetooth and white B Blueman applet in top panel
Same for me (upgrading from the previous version though) and I've found the reason for this here: http://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/xubuntu-ringtail-high-end.html The installed desktop looks the same as before, and even the extra Bluetooth icon was retained. The reason is, of course, that under Session and Startup, you have both Blueman Applet and Bluetooth Manager configured to load. The one problem is, it's not easy to know which one corresponds to the black icon, and which one to the more stylish and naturally integrated silver gray one. I've disabled the autostart of the Bluetooth Manager, and now only the white one remains after logging out and in again. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1172008 Title: Big Black B Buetooth and white B Blueman applet in top panel To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/blueman/+bug/1172008/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 795851] [NEW] software-center doesn't look inside packages for icons
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: software-center When displaying package lists, or information about a specific package, software-center looks in a number of directories for a suitable icon to display for that package, e.g. the /usr/share/pixmaps and /usr/share /app-install/icons directories. It does not, however, look inside the package itself at the files it will install, for icons that would be installed into those same directories. This means that an installed program will get an icon displayed (if it installed the icon itself) but an uninstalled program will not. Additionally, when upgrading, the *old* icon will be displayed, rather than the new replacement icon in the package. Also, none of the icon behaviour appears to be documented anywhere. I gleaned the above by reading the python source code. Documenting the icon behaviour would allow developers and packagers to know how to put icons into their packages (icons they use for their projects and web sites) in order to have them displayed correctly in GUI-based package installer programs, such as software-center. (I expected to find something in the Debian Policy Manual, but it only speaks about app menus.) ** Affects: software-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/795851 Title: software-center doesn't look inside packages for icons To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/software-center/+bug/795851/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 795851] Re: software-center doesn't look inside packages for icons
The more I think about it, the more it would appear that all packages who's icons are present in app-install-data should have a packaging bug against that application. Why don't these packages install their own icons? Looked at it from this perspective, that the app-install-data package exists at all is evidence of a problem in GUI package installers, such as software-center, not looking into packages to obtain the appropriate icons for each package. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/795851 Title: software-center doesn't look inside packages for icons To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/software-center/+bug/795851/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 722122] Re: Adding PPAs should be made easier.
The command software-center apt:packagename will take you into the GUI, and up to the point where it is ready to install the new package. Why doesn't the command software-center ppa:archivename take you into the GUI and up to the point where it is ready to add the new PPA? This would, with appropriate warnings about trust-worthy-ness, mean that you could get ppa: URIs to work the same way apt: URIs work now. With the result that web pages with newbie-scary command line install the ppa then install the package instructions can be hugely simplified... to two simple links. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/722122 Title: Adding PPAs should be made easier. [Bug 149231] gutsy: evolution click to open link does nothing
Public bug reported: In an email with a URL in it, the URL is highlighted as usual, and the usual copy and open choices appear. The copy choice works. The open choice, however, silently does nothing. [Bug 131470] Re: [Gutsy] Printers completely stopped working after the cupsys update 1.2.12-3ubuntu1
Cupsys just got updated again, so I've plugged my printer back in and it was added automatically with the correct Photosmart driver, quite nice! However, when trying to print a document, I had got the job state Pending: printer-stopped. Canceling the job, running sudo aa-complain cupsd and trying to print again did not help. While the printer status in the properties dialog was Ready before submitting the job, it now was Unplugged or turned off. Of course the printer was neither unplugged nor turned off. I've removed the printer and recreated it (the correct drivers are available again now). After that I was able to print successfully, multiple times. It seems I'm able to reproduce the problem by restarting Ubuntu. Running sudo aa-complain cupsd before printing does not help. The status of a print job is Pending: printer-stopped until I recreate the printer. Let me know if I can provide any information from log files etc. that could help to fix this. -- [Gutsy] Printers completely stopped working after the cupsys update 1.2.12-3ubuntu1 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/131470 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I don't understand. I have read 5.6.8 Architecture and I don't see the connection with the .changes file's Files and Binary field discrepancies. Could you please explain? Also, that .changes file, above, was produced with a simple pbuilder command, with no options to add or remove anything. [Bug 88276] Re: alsa-lib Binary: disagrees with Files:
Ah, my mistake. I misinterpreted this section. The .dsc file is correct. However, the .changes file is not. The relevant section, quoted below, implies that the Binary field of a .changes file must not list package names of binaries not actually built -- it's difficult to upload a non- existent file. I.e. Files and Binary must agree in a .changes file. - 5.6.19 Binary This field is a list of binary packages. When it appears in the .dsc file it is the list of binary packages which a source package can produce. It does not necessarily produce all of these binary packages for every architecture. The source control file doesn't contain details of which architectures are appropriate for which of the binary packages. When it appears in a .changes file it lists the names of the binary packages actually being uploaded. The syntax is a list of binary packages separated by commas[36]. Currently the packages must be separated using only spaces in the .changes file. -- alsa-lib Binary: disagrees with Files: https://launchpad.net/bugs/88276 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 88276] alsa-lib Binary: disagrees with Files:
Public bug reported: When I build the alsa-lib package from source, the .changes file's Binary and Files fields disagree. I'm using an up-to-date i386 Dapper. There is example .changes file at the end of this note: you will see that the lib32asound2 and lib32asound2-dev binaries are missing. This is a problem because I'm trying to automate package building, and when I compare the .dsc file with the pool, there are 2 files missing, indicating that the package needs a rebuild - maybe the previous build got a ^C halfway through copying the files. What is happening is that pbuilder of alsa-lib makes either plain and 32 or it makes plain and 64 files, always with 2 Binary files missing. Possible solution 1: I suggest that it should always make 32 and 64 and plain with plain being a copy of one of other two. This means that the Binary line will always be accurate, and never disagree with the Files field of the .changes file. This way also leads to a more consistent user experience: both width-specific form will always be available no matter what the platform, and so will the native form. Possible solution 2: An alternative solution is to have architecture specific source packages, TWO of them, one which is for 32 bit machines, and one which is for 64 bit machines. Arrange the Binaries lines of each package so that it always agrees with the Files field of the .changes file.
