[Bug 918896] Re: No data returned from MSSQL server

2017-05-29 Thread Peter Schwenke
I can't believe this is still going on. I no longer work in software
and have no use for this but as pointed out on other related pymssql
bugs I had this working many years ago and had a working version in my
bluetoad PPA. I'll just shake my head and unsubscribe from this!

[Bug 633882] Re: nextresult method in _mssql connect always returns True, and never points to next result set if there is any more

2012-06-08 Thread Peter Schwenke
Hello S.J,

I checked in Debian (http://packages.debian.org/squeeze/python-pymssql),
and the version has never shifted. I suppose the package is no longer
actively maintained in Debian. Therefore, it won't get to Ubuntu.

I am still on Lucid and will probably move from Ubuntu when I need to
upgrade.I also don't have access to a SQL Server machine to test.

I did put a later version of Ubuntu in a VM to have a look at it. If I
get a chance next week, I'll have a look for the VM and see which
version it was and maybe try building this package. But I am really
tight for time at the moment.

Sorry, I can't be more help.

[Bug 586335] Re: Maverick update breaks HP Laserjet 1020 printing

2011-05-17 Thread Peter Schwenke
As of the current maverick this could still be an issue. The log says

May 18 11:50:25 rechner /usr/sbin/hplj1020: foo2zjs: Missing HP LaserJet 1020 fi
rmware file /usr/share/foo2zjs/firmware/sihp1020.dl
May 18 11:50:25 rechner /usr/sbin/hplj1020: foo2zjs: ...read foo2zjs installatio
n instructions and run ./getweb 1020

If you run './getweb 1020' it breaks the printer - probably due to
broken firmware

May 18 11:49:58 rechner udev-configure-printer: Re-enabled printer ipp://localho
st:631/printers/HP-LaserJet-1020
May 18 11:49:59 rechner /usr/sbin/hplj1020: foo2zjs: loading HP LaserJet 1020 fi

May 18 11:50:15 rechner kernel: [11786.670782] usblp0: nonzero write bulk status
 received: -71

Removing the /usr/share/foo2zjs/firmware/sihp1020.dl file and cycling
the printer power fixes the problem.

This bug should be moved to the foo2zjs package. This is probably also the
reason for the red box at
http://foo2zjs.rkkda.com/ saying not to use the foo2zjs package in Ubuntu and a
few other distros.

The printer is on elderly user's computer who lives interstate - so
further diagnosis is difficult. I was just investigating why "the
printer didn't work" but it turns out to be another printer.

However, it appears that if the printer installation is left in the
default state it is OK.

[Bug 633882] Re: nextresult method in _mssql connect always returns True, and never points to next result set if there is any more

2010-09-09 Thread Peter Schwenke
I have it packaged in my PPA because I needed to solve #463830

https://launchpad.net/~bluetoad/+archive/ppa

It has been heavily tested.

The 1.02 package really does not work at all.

I also sent email to the maintainer, Josselin Mouette, in June with the
new package files so that it could be packaged for Debian and find its
way to Ubuntu, eventually.

>From experience, Ubuntu generally don't update to new versions in
releases.  It is  documented at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates.

However, since the bug has never been triaged to critical it makes it
hard to start the SRU process.

[Bug 502071] Re: FH_DATE_PAST_20XX scores on all mails dated 2010 or later

2010-04-12 Thread Peter Schwenke
Sorry about the false alarm.

Thanks, Steve and Alex. I spotted the patch file a little while ago and
have been checking the package build. The build does the correct thing
and I see the correct file in built package. I had updated the rules
using sa-update earlier and the correct rule was installed.

Anyway, after building the package I noticed the different naming with
ubuntu0.1 tacked on. It turns out that for some reason my remote
machine (linode) didn't have karmic-updates for main and restricted in
/etc/apt/sources.list. Odd. Of course, the package was installed
correctly after fixing that.

2010-04-11 Thread Peter Schwenke
Is this really fixed in Karmic? Looking at the source package at
spamassassin-3.2.5/rules/72_active.cf I see

##{ FH_DATE_PAST_20XX
header   FH_DATE_PAST_20XX  Date =~ /20[1-9][0-9]/ [if-unset: 2006]
describe FH_DATE_PAST_20XX The date is grossly in the future.
##} FH_DATE_PAST_20XX

That is also what is installed on my system

2010-04-01 Thread Peter Schwenke
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: eclipse

It is almost comical after the nightmare of an upgrade that it whinges
about eclipse.

The upgrade from jaunty to karmic using the official process got stuck
on the configuration of console-setup. The machine was dead as a door
nail. No ssh, network nothing. No option but to power off.

Then after going through heaps of manual apt and deb commands, then
later having to boot from the alternate CD to get a shell after things
were that broken it couldn't boot. But, of course, I had updated the
other machines to karmic and could no longer burn CDs

Then after several restarts of dist-upgrade from that shell all of the
packages were installed. But grub didn't find the UUID of the root
partition. From the Busy Box shell I saw that the symlink wasn't there
in /dev/disk/by-uuid. So after a couple of boots I changed it to the
device(/dev/sda1)  and got up.

I logged in and there was a message about eclipse. I wonder how longer
it will take to iron the kinks out of this system.

[Bug 397906] Re: blank cd-r not detected [Karmic]

2010-03-31 Thread Peter Schwenke
This is still happening in Karmic so it should remain open for Karmic.
The machine is upgraded from Jaunty.

The Blank CD wasn't recognised in Nautilus. No CD was available when I
did Right click/write to file from Nautilus. I cranked up Brasero, it
acted like it was going to burn the disk so I left it and walked away.
When I came back it failed. So I looked in Launchpad.

While gathering the info as in comment 5 in #497232 , I got a popup for
the blank CD! That invoked Brasero (it wasn't Brasero on Jaunty IIRC).
The size was reported as 12.8MB.

Anyway, I tried to burn again. The brasero log is attached. Now the
scary thing. When I cut and pasted from the Brasero session log to vi
in an xterm it took a long time and there was grinding sounds from a
disk drive or something. I did that twice. This machine and its drives
are fine.

So after attaching the files I'm to reboot and install and try k3b.

[Bug 463830] Re: query truncation bug in pymssql-1.0.1

2010-03-25 Thread Peter Schwenke
I spent several hours with 1.0.1 on Karmic trying to determine why
things would work for a while or occasionally and decided some
corruption must be happening to the SQL queries.

So I looked at http://pymssql.sourceforge.net/. Here is the first few
lines from the release notes for 1.0.2.

2009-04-28: pymssql 1.0.2 has been released.

* fixed severe bug introduced in 1.0.0 that caused some queries to
be truncated or overwritten with binary garbage - many thanks to Igor
Nazarenko who found the exact cause of the bug,

I have built 1.0.2 using the packaging from the 1,0.1 source deb. It is
available from my PPA

https://launchpad.net/~bluetoad/+archive/ppa

This bug really should be fixed and 1.0.2 included in Karmic. As
pointed out by other reporters the package is all but useless in its
current state.

Patches for laptops mentioned here were submitted upstream a long time

I didn't worry about the couple of cases had strange Product Names in
their DMI table. I did try to look for a generic solution but ended up
deciding the DMI check in the kernel was the best. No more new models
were getting reported. So you can close this bug.

[Bug 23293] Re: Nautilus windows should close on unmount

2009-06-23 Thread Peter Schwenke
Unfortunately, it does not use the same window so you end up with
several windows you need to close.

I used to just close the window as soon as it came up since I usually
use the command line in a terminal window and then umount via the icon
on the desktop.But I've accessed the mount via the Places menu
recently (and also tried using the GUI to do the copies) and ended up
with this annoyance.

I ended up here after gogling for how I could configure Nautilus to
close the window.

[Bug 226069] Re: hibernation fails to power off and reboots because "platform" is inconditionally used instead of "shutdown"

2009-06-21 Thread Peter Schwenke
I vote for this to be fixed in Hardy since it is LTS. So it is not Fix
Release for Hardy.

[Bug 223780] Re: hdc: status error: status=0x59 { DriveReady SeekComplete DataRequest Error }

2009-04-27 Thread Peter Schwenke
This bug still exists on Hardy. Hardy is LTS so it would be nice if it was
fixed.This change
 still remains in the kernel right through to the 2.6.29 kernel. The code has
changed significantly for 2.6.30.

Upstream commit f367bed005b06db7067fc378a5f2253fac54e5d9 reverts the
commit which causes this bug (b140b99c413ce410197cfcd4014e757cd745226a)

The fix worked for me.

Thanks, Steve. The proposed package appears to work. I shut the machine and
unplugged the power cable for a while to be sure.

[Bug 139045] Re: Slow suspend on various Toshiba laptops

2008-01-31 Thread Peter Schwenke
Due to the number of these machines dropping up and after talking to
upstream I am looking into a better way of handling this.

The output which seems most useful is from "lspci -nvv".
Can everyone please submit that information as an attachment - indicating which
model it is from.

If you have a Toshiba laptop which does not exhibit this behaviour, I
would like to also have that output. For documentation purposes and
risking clutter it would be better to post that here rather than
directly. But please put the string "NO PROBLEM" in the Description
when adding the attachment.

weed0r,

Unless you have a TECRA M5, Satellite U200, Satellite U205, Portege
M500 with exactly one of those strings in Product Name in your dmidecode
output you'll need to use the packages from

http://203.143.225.228/gutsy/

or use the patches attached to this bug report and rebuild the kernel
yourself. The models listed above are the only ones which have been
included in Gutsy. The other models have been included upstream and
should come through in Hardy.

I've looked at using the Launchpad PPAs
(https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+ppas) to make this easier but haven't
worked out the package pinning properly.

[Bug 99107] Re: Feisty ships with OLD cx2341x mpeg encoder firmware

2007-10-10 Thread Peter Schwenke
I put the wrong link to the Gutsy version of the bug (#140921) I
reported before I noticed this one. I'll copy the text here:

I believe that the wrong firmware has been included for the ivtv driver. I
haven't actually installed Gutsy on
my MythTV box. However, experience with
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.20/+bug/131464 in
Feisty will show this is true.

The file is ./ubuntu-firmware/ivtv/v4l-cx2341x-enc.fw with file size
262144 bytes.

On http://www.hauppauge.com/pages/support/support_pvr150.html there is a
download button link which downloads
http://hauppauge.lightpath.net/software/pvr150/cd_pvr150_27.zip

The file DriverA2/HcwFalcn.rom should be the file
./ubuntu-firmware/ivtv/v4l-cx2341x-enc.fw. I have attached that
file to this bug report.

I have checked the ivtv driver in the kernel source code to verify this
is still the correct version of the firmware.

in drivers/media/video/ivtv/ivtv-firmware.c see

void ivtv_firmware_versions(struct ivtv *itv)
{
u32 data[CX2341X_MBOX_MAX_DATA];

/* Encoder */
ivtv_vapi_result(itv, data, CX2341X_ENC_GET_VERSION, 0);
IVTV_INFO("Encoder revision: 0x%08x\n", data[0]);

if (data[0] != 0x02060039)
IVTV_WARN("Recommended firmware version is 0x02060039.\n");

and

static int ivtv_firmware_copy(struct ivtv *itv)
{
 IVTV_DEBUG_INFO("Loading encoder image\n");
 if (load_fw_direct(CX2341X_FIRM_ENC_FILENAME,
 itv->enc_mem, itv, IVTV_FW_ENC_SIZE) != IVTV_FW_ENC_SIZE) {

where
#define IVTV_FW_ENC_SIZE (376836)

Which is the size of the version of firmware I recommend

[Bug 139045] Re: Slow suspend on various Toshiba laptops

2007-10-02 Thread Peter Schwenke
I can confirm that the latest kernel release does suspend properly on
the Portege M500.

However, I checked out the changes made to the code after gusnz's comment about
the M3.
The patches had been refactored and some models were missed. These are the M3,
M7 and variation on the U200.The variation on the U200 should go upstream.

The original patch had some OEM string checking because *some* M3 seem
to not have a Product Name in the dmidecode output (see
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/attachment.cgi?id=11993&action=edit).

That has been omitted in the patches applied to the Gutsy kernel. I have not
added that
back in in this patch.

However, apparently there is a patch awaiting which adds the Tecra M3 to the
piix_broken_suspend_dmi_table table, as well. This patch includes that.

I have built the packages and am waiting confirmation from guznz for the
M3.

Packages are available for testing at http://203.143.225.228/gutsy/

[Bug 137602] Re: powertop suggests "increase the VM dirty writeback time from 5.00 to 15 seconds" repeatedly

2007-09-27 Thread Peter Schwenke
Ubuntu sets the values of this parameter depending if you are on AC
power.

Check to make sure you have laptop mode enabled on battery power. Then
run powertop wgile on battery power. You'll probably find that the
message will not occur any more.

[Bug 137602] Re: powertop suggests "increase the VM dirty writeback time from 5.00 to 15 seconds" repeatedly

2007-09-25 Thread Peter Schwenke
Have you got laptop mode enabled on battery? Check /etc/default/acpi-
support.

That will set that parameter to an even
more aggressive value (LM_BATT_MAX_LOST_WORK_SECONDS=600 seconds in
/etc/laptop-mode/laptop-mode.conf and more settings) when on battery.

[Bug 140921] Wrong firmware for ivtv driver

2007-09-19 Thread Peter Schwenke
Public bug reported:

I believe that the wrong firmware has been included for the ivtv driver. I
haven't actually installed Gutsy on
my MythTV box. However, experience with
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.20/+bug/131464 in
Feisty will show this is true.

The file is ./ubuntu-firmware/ivtv/v4l-cx2341x-enc.fw with file size
262144 bytes.

On http://www.hauppauge.com/pages/support/support_pvr150.html there is a
download button link which downloads
http://hauppauge.lightpath.net/software/pvr150/cd_pvr150_27.zip

The file DriverA2/HcwFalcn.rom should be the file
./ubuntu-firmware/ivtv/v4l-cx2341x-enc.fw.  I have attached that
file to this bug report.

I have checked the ivtv driver in the kernel source code to verify this
is still the correct version of the firmware.

in drivers/media/video/ivtv/ivtv-firmware.c see

void ivtv_firmware_versions(struct ivtv *itv)
{
u32 data[CX2341X_MBOX_MAX_DATA];

/* Encoder */
ivtv_vapi_result(itv, data, CX2341X_ENC_GET_VERSION, 0);
IVTV_INFO("Encoder revision: 0x%08x\n", data[0]);

if (data[0] != 0x02060039)
IVTV_WARN("Recommended firmware version is 0x02060039.\n");

and

static int ivtv_firmware_copy(struct ivtv *itv)
{
IVTV_DEBUG_INFO("Loading encoder image\n");
if (load_fw_direct(CX2341X_FIRM_ENC_FILENAME,
   itv->enc_mem, itv, IVTV_FW_ENC_SIZE) != IVTV_FW_ENC_SIZE) {

where
#define IVTV_FW_ENC_SIZE(376836)

Which is the size of the version of firmware I recommend

[Bug 128232] Re: Eclipse SEGFAULTs in libgtk-x11: gtk_tooltips_set_tip()

Another "me too". If you slowly click on a tab for one of the open files it
seems to be OK. So if you wait for the
tooltip to come up or maybe just before it comes up.
But when you forget and go to one of the tabs and click - kaboom!

Patch solves it.

[Bug 139045] Re: Slow suspend on various Toshiba laptops

2007-09-17 Thread Peter Schwenke
It appears that the case varies for the Product Name returned by dmidecode
for different models of the U200. This is for the case "Satellite U200".
My previous patch has "SATELLITE U200".

In the version of this bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.20/+bug/90771
2 dmidecodes have been submitted which conform this.

I applied the patch referred to in

[Bug 139045] Slow suspend on various Toshiba laptops

2007-09-11 Thread Peter Schwenke
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.22

Suspend to RAM takes around 5 minutes on various Toshiba laptop models.
This problem has been around since at least Dapper.

Models included in this patch are Tecra M5, Tecra M7, Portege M500,
Satellite U200 and Satellite U205.

Tejun Heo submitted a fix at
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7780

I have taken the fix and applied it to the Gutsy kernel. The patch
looks like it would apply cleanly. However, I manually applied it. I
walked through the code since this is 2.6.22 and he Tejun patched
2.6.23. I tested on my Portege M500. It works fine.

I previously had backported the patch to the Feisty kernel. See
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.20/+bug/90771
 As a consequence of that bug I have also added the U200 (not included in
Tejun's original patch)

I have since noticed he subsequently put in a patch for the Tecra M7
http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commitdiff;h=5c08ea019198230a62c601ddf97d0319ae246ad8

I have also included the M7 in this patch. I have also included the M7 in this
patch.

See I suspect this bug also affects the M4 and M6.

Author: Tejun Heo <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Date:   Tue Jul 10 15:55:43 2007 +0900

ata_piix: fix suspend/resume for some TOSHIBA laptops

ACPI implementations in several TOSHIBA laptops are weird and burn cpu
cycles for tens of seconds while trying to suspend if the PCI device
for the ATA controller is disabled when the ACPI suspend is called.

This patch uses DMI to match those machines and bypass device disable
on those machines during suspend. As the device needs to be put into
enabled state on resume without affecting PCI enable count, matching
resume callback uses __pci_reenable_device().

This bug is reported in bugzilla bug 7780.

[Bug 90771] Re: Suspend to ram very slow and not reliable on Toshiba U200

2007-08-26 Thread Peter Schwenke
Paulo, I attached a GIT patch with my comment on 2007-08-10. Looking
at the patch I see there it doesn't have the U200 in the patch, however,
as you say it is trivial. Are you going to try it?

It has worked well for me. I do get the occasional broken resume but
I'm sure that is some other gremlins.

Originally, I blindly applied the patch to the Gutsy kernel and it
didn't resume properly. However, I hadn't tried the unpatched kernel
first. I'd simply read the advice saying it applies cleanly. I'll
have a proper look at it.

[Bug 131464] Wrong firmware for ivtv driver

2007-08-09 Thread Peter Schwenke
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-restricted-modules-2.6.20-16-generic

Sound didn't work for my Haupauge PVR-150 until I updated the firmware
from the supplied CD.

With firmware (v4l-cx2341x-enc.fw) included in the l-r-m package I get
(I'll cut this down here and submit attachments to the bug report).

[ 14.432199] ivtv: START INIT IVTV
[ 14.441898] ivtv: version 0.10.1 (tagged release) loading
[   14.452303] ivtv:  Linux version: 2.6.20-16-generic SMP mod_unload 586
...
[   14.493763] ivtv0: Autodetected Hauppauge card (cx23416 based)
...
[   15.308642] ivtv0: loaded v4l-cx2341x-enc.fw firmware (262144 bytes)
[   15.537172] ivtv0: Encoder revision: 0x02050032
[   15.548756] ivtv0: Recommended firmware version is 0x02060039.
...

and with the newer firmware

[ 16.126408] ivtv: START INIT IVTV
...
[   16.925753] ivtv0: loaded v4l-cx2341x-enc.fw firmware (376836 bytes)
[   17.149678] ivtv0: Encoder revision: 0x02060039
...

no visible errors anywhere else.

This problem existed in 2.6.20-15, as well. After all my bumbling to
get mythtv going I wasn't 100% sure. But this reappeared after the last
l-r-m upgrade.

I am not 100% sure of the distribution status of the firmware so I have
looked on the Haupauge site and checked against the version I have.

On http://www.hauppauge.com/pages/support/support_pvr150.html there is a
download button link which downloads
http://hauppauge.lightpath.net/software/pvr150/cd_pvr150_27.zip

The file DriverA2/HcwFalcn.rom should be the file debian/firmware/ivtv
/v4l-cx2341x-enc.fw in the l-r-m source package

** Affects: linux-restricted-modules-2.6.20 (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 90771] Re: Suspend to ram very slow and not reliable on Toshiba U200

2007-08-09 Thread Peter Schwenke
I have had this problem since I first got my Toshiba Portege M500.
Suspend/resume works but the suspend takes 5 minutes. Hibernate has
always worked.

I have ported Tejun Heo's patch from
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7780
to the Feisty 2.6.20 kernel.

Suspend now works  quickly.

[Bug 56653] Re: CPU Freq. Monitor, SMP, not refresh after setup

2006-10-26 Thread Peter Schwenke
I can confirm this is happening with the Edgy RC Live CD. I have a
Toshiba Portege M500 (T2300 chipset 1.66GHz Core Duo). It's fine on the
Dapper installtion on that laptop.

I'll try the release later although the version hasn't changed.
