[Bug 592654] [NEW] gwenview freezes when opening a image or folder

2010-06-11 Thread Philip Macpherson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdegraphics

If I open a image it loads it at the default zoom. The cursor anywhere
in the window is the hand usually assosiated when moving the picture
around. (i.e. it doesn't change like it normally does) None of the
buttons work, including zoom or trying to move the picture around. It
stays like this for up to a minute using around less than 10% cpu. If I
try and quit during this time it takes a while before the force quit
appears instead of exiting normally. After a while it starts working
normally.

It also does the same freezing when I open gwenview in folder view.
It's fine when first opened in /home. But if I go up a folder or try
and go to any in the folder tree then it freezes for around a minute
before finally loading it and further time to generate thumbnails.

[Bug 179214] Re: Akregator sometimes put's items in wrong feed

2009-07-27 Thread Philip Macpherson
I don't really use the program anymore. I quickly tried it on the feeds
I knew to be not working when I stopped using it and they seem to be
working so it's hopefully fixed and not just hiding somewhere.

[Bug 395392] [NEW] Installing kubuntu-desktop causes gnome themes to become kde hybrids

2009-07-03 Thread Philip Macpherson
Public bug reported:

Installing kubuntu-desktop caused the gnome themes to become a sort of
gnome/kde hybrid.

Some examples are;

-Some bit's of the menu bar are black like the theme, other bit's near icons
are silverish white.
-Words like the time/date and opened programs are covered by a sort of line
(see screenshot)
-The icons are different
-Other weird things like selected objects in nautilus and programs highlighted
in blue

Changing the theme in appearances doesn't help, through some themes have
less problems than others. I.e. Human theme while looking different at
least doesn't have multicoloured menubars

I'm using Ubuntu 9.04 and the version of kubuntu-desktop is 1.122

I too have this problem on Jaunty. I remember having a similar problem
back in a feisty development. I think I fixed it at the time by
formatting it on a working computer. However this time it didn't help.

It still loads perfectly on another computer's older ubuntu. As well as
a windows laptop.

I tried disconnecting and reconnecting multiple times but it didn't
help.

[Bug 287517] [NEW] Beep isn't excutable by default in intrepid

2008-10-22 Thread Philip Macpherson
Public bug reported:

I installed the package 'beep' in ibex since I used it a lot in hardy.
However when I went to use it I discovered I would get the error bash:
/usr/bin/beep: Permission denied

I tried completely removing the package and installing it again in case
anything went wrong but it didn't help. Going to the file in nautilus
showed me that Allow executing file as program is unchecked.

[Bug 179214] Akregator sometimes put's items in wrong feed

2007-12-29 Thread Philip Macpherson
Public bug reported:

I think I've only had this problem while using kubuntu gutsy but I can't
be sure. I'm not sure what triggers it but it seems to happen when a
feed isn't downloaded (has a red circle with a X in it)

The problem is this; Instead of feed 'A's' items going into the Feed A
slot they sometimes go into another feeds slot. The other feeds slot
then takes the description and pictures of the first feed. Here is a
picture to better explain it http://imagebin.ca/view/FEd-8CV.html
(That's a feed with some wrong items and wrong description+picture in
it) http://imagebin.ca/view/qqC2hty.html (This one is the feed where the
items were meant to go.) Restarting akregator and selecting fetch feed
doesn't make the items go into the correct feed. Also this has happened
quite a few times with different feeds.

[Bug 160147] HP printer prints missing a colour or similar

Public bug reported:

I have a HP Photosmart C3180 All-in-one. It was working fine in Edgy
until it started to print strangely one day. The pictures have a
pinkies hue and faint lines every 3/4ths of a centimeter. I upgraded to
gutsy while keeping my home directory and have the same problem. The
problem occurs when you print from all things in kubuntu including the
hplip test page. The strange thing is that it prints perfectly off the
gutsy livecd. All colours are marked as ok in the hplip toolbox

[Bug 154343] Re: Computer locks up randomly during certain programs

2007-10-29 Thread Philip Macpherson
The firefox freezing hasn't happened for the last week and thus the
lights haven't flashed since. If it happens again I will post the
results of dmesg. The upgrade was like this. Remove the motherboard.
Put the new motherboard in with new cpu and memory. Connect the old
power supply, hard drive and dvdrw. Nothing else was moved though I did
change the ide cables around since this motherboard only has one slot
for them.

I just installed prboom but it also freezes. Sometimes as soon as the
menu loads and other times when you first try to fire. You can still
control the keyboard lights but nothing else seems to happen. Both
ctrl+alt+F1 and ctrl+alt+backspace seem to do their proper functions
with this problem.

[Bug 158041] kget uses 99% of the cpu

2007-10-28 Thread Philip Macpherson
Public bug reported:

I just installed gutsy last week and noticed that kget often uses 99% of
the cpu. The only way I've found to stop it is quit and load again.
It seems to start after I've run it for a while and gone to offline mode
and back again (though I may be mistaken.) I noticed this because I saw
my cpu was at 60c. I went to top and it said kget was using around 99%
of the cpu. I closed in and my cpu went back down to around 34c. This
has happened around 6 times since installing gutsy.

[Bug 154343] Re: Computer locks up randomly during certain programs

2007-10-28 Thread Philip Macpherson
I just used startx over ssh to record any error messages. I was using
blender and tried to switch desktops. Everything froze and ctrl+alt+F1,
ctrl+alt_del didn't work. The mouse was also locked in place. But ssh
still worked so here is the message

Public bug reported:

Since doing a fresh install of gutsy I've noticed that all my downloads
in downloader for x have being failing. After looking in the properties
of each file I noticed why. It adds 's to every files download
link. e.g.
http://ia350615.us.archive.org/3/items/persuasion_0708_librivox/persuasion_24_austen.ogg
and no mater how many times I delete the // it just puts them back

I just uninstalled powernowd and while I only tested once. Blender ran
for around 6 minutes without freezing. I should also add that I can
render and use boinc for long periods. I've also installed a
temperature monitor so I don't think it's that.

I used to have the kubuntu loading screen in feisty. But since doing a
fresh install of gutsy my monitor receives no signal during that
process. It works up until just after grub then receives no signal, at
the login screen it turns on again.

I'm using a ASUS p5B-VM motherboard which has a intel G965 graphics
chip.

[Bug 154343] Computer locks up randomly during certain programs

2007-10-19 Thread Philip Macpherson
Public bug reported:

I just upgraded my hardware, but since doing so my entire computer locks up
during random times when using blender and firefox. (I haven't used many
programs yet so there might be more)
Here is how it happens:
Blender:
I go into blender and move around a bit. Load some files and play around.
After a while (2-4 minutes) the screen goes black. The mouse is still there
and you can move it. But the screen turns off and on every 4 seconds putting
the mouse back in the center. Sometimes there is a 3cm square in the middle of
the screen and nothing will move.
Firefox:
I was using firefox and looking at some pictures. All of a sudden the mouse
stopped moving and the numlock and capslock lights started flashing.

Ctrl+alt+F1 did nothing in either of these cases.

My hardware is
Intel Core 2 duo cpu
Asus P5B-VM motherboard
Intel G965 express chipset for graphics
2x1gibabyte ram

[Bug 154409] stringi desktop search stops accepting input when new results display

2007-10-19 Thread Philip Macpherson
Public bug reported:

In the little text box for strigi in the kde task bar you can type until some
results come up. Then the text cursor goes from it and you have to click again
to type more. It can also lose its cursor when backspacing. While this isn't
a huge issue it does get annoying.
I'm using kubuntu 7.10

It happened again. More system files got deleted. I was logged in and
noticed because apt wasn't working. Here is a copy of my fstab. The
messages file isn't working for some reason (it was probably one of the
deleted inodes files this time. Also all the other files in the

[Bug 85091] sudden reboot or freeze

2007-02-14 Thread Philip Macpherson
Public bug reported:

Sometimes when I'm loading a program that uses graphics (i.e Kaffeine, Blender,
Games) my system will crash that program. Sometimes when I try the same
programs my mouse, computer and everything else freezes and I have to reboot.
And other times my computer just either reboots or the screen goes black and I
go to a text login.
I am using Kubuntu 6.10 edgy eft with the nvidia binary drivers. (32mb onboard

two days ago.)

[Bug 84708] System partition losing files

2007-02-12 Thread Philip Macpherson
Public bug reported:

This has being affecting me for around one and a half months. I
installed edgy eft kubuntu the day it came out and I didn't experience
the problem then.

My problem is this; Every few days (sometimes longer) I load my computer and
something is not working. Sometimes I can't login at all and sometimes just
the package manger is broken. When ever this happens I log into recovery mode
or use a livecd. There I run fsck on my partitions. The /home partition never
has any problems but the / partition complains about deleted inodes for a
number of files. These files usually correspond to what isn't working in the
operating system.
I have reinstalled both kubuntu and ubuntu around 10 times since this started
but this hasn't helped. Also I have installed a new harddrive but the error
still affects it as well. I've also tried mounting the drive as ext2 instead
of ext3 but that didn't seem to help.

** Affects: Ubuntu
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: Unconfirmed

[Bug 77382] Re: crashes with segmentation fault

2007-01-04 Thread Philip Macpherson
I compiled the blender debug version via the instuctions from that
guide. However for some reason the I couldn't get the debug version to
crash

[Bug 77382] Blender release candidate comes up with a Xlib error when I try to load it. Also both this blender and the offical ubuntu build, occasionaly wont load because of a segmentation fault

2007-01-03 Thread Philip Macpherson
Public bug reported:

I downloaded a unofficial release candidate of Blender, and tried to run it in
a terminal. However while it loads it comes up with the following error:
--
blender
Compiled with Python version 2.4.
Checking for installed Python... got it!
Ignoring Xlib error: error code 166 request code 146
Ignoring Xlib error: error code 166 request code 146
-
Also some times when I try to load blender after it has been open, and then I
have shut it. It won't loads and instead comes up with an error saying
Segmentation Fault
After this error I can't load blender, even after multiple tries. However on a
rare occasion it starts working again. Also rebooting my computer always lets
the program start again.

** Affects: blender (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Medium
 Status: Rejected

My video card is a onboard 32MBs Geforce2, if that helps.

[Bug 77382] Re: crashes with segmentation fault

2007-01-03 Thread Philip Macpherson
I would like to find the reason for the segmentation fault with Ubuntu's build
of Blender. However I can't find a debugging symbols package for it. Will
making back traces and using Valgrind still work?
Also for the unofficial build. The blender people said they thought it was an
Xlib error, not a blender one. Does Xlib have a bug submit page?

2007-01-03 Thread Philip Macpherson
I fixed the Xlib error, but commenting out wacom tablet support in my
Xorg.conf

About the debug version of ubuntu's build of Blender. Even after adding the
extra source, I couldn't find a debug version of Blender in synaptic.
So I am wondering if I am allowed to make my own Blender debug version and then
submit the results to Ubuntu?
