[Bug 398184] Re: Synaptic sometimes lists 'unchanged' in to-do list - confusing
Ok, just checked the short descriptions, and based on that (Incomplete = not reproducible, waiting for response from reported) it's not Incomplete indeed, but in order to start working on this, I need some feedback from someone else (as I have said, I could simply remove the items from Unchanged and mark this as Fixed) and as there is no status called Waiting-for-feedback-on-how-to-properly-fix-this-without-causing- regressions-for-many-people I have set it to Incomplete, as for me that is the only status meaning that someone is missing in this bug for a developer to fix it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/398184 Title: Synaptic sometimes lists 'unchanged' in to-do list - confusing To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hundredpapercuts/+bug/398184/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 398184] Re: Synaptic sometimes lists 'unchanged' in to-do list - confusing
The unchanged label (not very logical) is used for packages with available upgrades, but not selected for upgrade. I guess we should not display these at all, as the todo list shouldn't contain packages which should not be acted upon. However if anyone else has a better idea, we could also try changing the label "Unchanged" to something like "Not selected for upgrade", or something like that.

[Bug 743498] Re: Chronicles are not complete
I am marking this as Confirmed, as indeed, Synaptic only shows the changes made from synaptic. You did see updates and removals in synaptic history before, because update-manager was also using synaptic as it's backend, but switched to using aptdaemon, thus it's operations are not visible from synaptic history. The inconsistency here is that synaptic changes are visible in the installation history from software center, but the reverse is not true, package changes made by anything else but synaptic are not visible in synaptic. I guess synaptic should also read apt history (or dpkg history) as seeing only the changes made by synaptic is rarely useful (if at all). What do you think, mvo? If you agree, I could check the migration to apt history from the custom synaptic log used now. ** Changed in: synaptic (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed ** Summary changed: - Chronicles are not complete + History is incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/743498 Title: History is incomplete To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/synaptic/+bug/743498/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 674346] Re: Packages aren't deleted after installation
@Jacob found the reason for this bug: update-manager in 10.04 uses synaptic as it's default backend (to install/update packages) but has now moved to aptdaemon as a default backend (don't know for sure whether it was for 10.10 or 11.04, I think 10.10 it was). Jacob is also right that update-manager doesn't have a setting for that in it's settings panel (software-properties), and based on this investigtation this bug is about software-properties (update manager settings) not having a setting to delete packages after install/update, I am reassigning this bug to software-properties and updating the title and description with this information, and also subscribing Ayatana Design and mpt (the designer who has made the design for the update manager settings panel) to comment on the issue, and if required, update the design with the new option, or suggest any better ideas where the cleanup option should appear (as Computer Janitor is not part of the default install anymore, and it was not automatic anyway) ** Package changed: synaptic (Ubuntu) => software-properties (Ubuntu) ** Summary changed: - Packages aren't deleted after installation + No option to delete package files after installed/updated them ** Description changed: - Binary package hint: synaptic + Since update-manager has updated it's default backend to aptdaemon + (10.04 was using synaptic) the synaptic option to delete the packages + after they have been installed/updated does not affect the packages + downloaded/installed/updated by download manager, causing a regression, + especially bad for computers with limited space. - Description: Ubuntu 10.10 - Release: 10.10 - - synaptic: - Â Â Installed: 0.63.1ubuntu14 - Â Â Candidate: 0.63.1ubuntu14 - Â Â Version table: - Â *** 0.63.1ubuntu14 0 - 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick/main amd64 Packages - 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status - - Expected: With the "Delete downloaded packages after installation" - option enabled in Settings -> Preferences -> Files tab -> Temporary - Files, the packages in /var/cache/apt/archives are deleted after - installation from Synaptic, Update Manager, and Software Center. - - Actually Happens: Packages remain in /var/cache/apt/archives after - installation.
