[Bug 1334954] [NEW] Complete HUAWEI Mobile broadband E352 support
Public bug reported: usb_modeswitch kernel module tells me to report this bug :) The modem works fine, it's just not stable. Unplugging and reinserting creates a kernel oops that seems to prevent halting the system. First time I plugged it in, I got an U-DEV popup error message. A little after that, there was a question about PIN code and the modem worked. Unplugging and reinstering the device, it won't work. I have to reboot. I added four lines in usb_modeswitch.conf: DefaultVendor=12d1 DefaultProduct=14fe TargetVendor=12d1 TargetProduct=1506 At the last reboot, this made the U-DEV popup disappear and the modem asks for the PIN and works. The work_device.txt attachment shows the kernel log for this event. I will upload the log for when I unplug and reinsert the device as a separate file. ** Affects: usb-modeswitch (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: 3g huawei modem ** Attachment added: "kernel log for plugging in and using the modem" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1334954/+attachment/4140316/+files/working_device.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1334954 Title: Complete HUAWEI Mobile broadband E352 support To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/usb-modeswitch/+bug/1334954/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I am currently running 13.04 and the same problem is still present. [Bug 675792] [NEW] Last page get written over when moving the page being scanned
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: simple-scan I was scanning a several page document in simple-scan. While adding a page I decided to arrange the pages in a different order. So i moved a page backword (left), and then I was going to move the page that was being scanned. I clicked and moved the page left, and the page with the turning symbol (indicating loading) moved left to where I wanted it. Except it kept turning. So I looked back at the last page and saw it was overwritten with the content that I expected to see on the page with the turning symbol. I had to scan both pages again after deleting them, then move them around, to get the desired outcome. Re: [Bug 422858] Re: Atom N280 frequency scaling not supported
I received an email from Acer Norway about my Acer Aspire One D250, translated quote: "We have reached the conclusion that Intel's EIST power saving feature is the source of varying frequency for this model. To correct this behavior I made a request for a BIOS release with a direct option to deactivate Intel EIST. Please use the attached BIOS version and get back to me with your results." Unfortunately I haven't been able to flash my BIOS with this new version yet. My problem is that it's DOS-dependent and the flashit program just crashed on me when running it in FreeDOS from a USB memory stick. I have made a request for a Windows version like former BIOS releases from Acer, as I dual boot Windows 7 and Ubuntu. I don't dare to upload that BIOS release here on launchpad.net, due to it's potential to brick computers and likely copyright restrictions. All in all I'm having a positive dialogue with Acer. I will recommend that you make contact with the support crew for your computer maker and let them know about this bug here on launchpad. [Bug 425040] Re: ecryptfs PAM module causes slow authentication
I tried to remove the ecryptfs-utils package but that resulted in the pam_ecryptfs module being reenabled in my common_auth. Then I removed the libecryptfs0 package and the pam_ecryptfs module got disabled. Also, I never opted in for any home directory encryption, and I never asked for the package. [Bug 425040] [NEW] ecryptfs PAM module causes slow authentication
Public bug reported: The following line in /etc/pam.d/common-auth causes heavy delay in system authentication: authoptionalpam_ecryptfs.so unwrap This default PAM module in Ubuntu causes slow logon times and a very annoying delay in the unlock process of gnome-screensaver. The difference in terms of user experience between keeping this module and disabling this module is huge, especially compared to Windows 7 and OS X screensaver unlock. I recorded the following average times when debugging the unlock delay: VT1 bash LOGIN times: Default: ~ 2.8 seconds No ecryptfs: ~ 1.1 seconds gnome-screensaver unlock times: Default: ~ 2.3 seconds Ecryptfs, no gnome-keyring: ~ 2.0 seconds No ecryptfs: ~ 0.7 seconds Keyring, no ecrypt: ~ 0.7 seconds In other words: By disabling ecryptfs in PAM common_auth I went from experiencing a "hang" in the gnome-screensaver unlock screen, with the password field greyed out, to an immediate desktop appearance after typing the password. Furthermore, at the same time I saw a significant reduction of login delay at the terminal. I didn't bother timing the GDM login times, as they're sure to be faster as well. My simple request is herefore that the pam_ecryptfs module is henceforth disabled from the default Ubuntu configuration, based on this upgrade of the overall user experience in a significant area - the reactivation of the desktop after suspend, hibernate and general AFK. As per the usefulness of this module, I can't imagine the average user will miss the option to encrypt folders. For advanced users, there need to be a different way to let them encrypt folders than putting this big hurdle in the face of regular users. And no, this is not the same problem as #105101 - as my disabling the pam_ecryptfs line in common_auth doesn't seem to affect the speed at which the password dialog in gnome-screensaver appears.
