[Bug 1173534] [NEW] Since upgrading to kubuntu 13.04 skype seg faults on launch

2013-04-27 Thread SA
Public bug reported:

Need I say more at this point:

:59 skype
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

First time I ran it nothing happened for an age - I ran top and noticed
that apport was running and consuming loads of CPU then skype segfaulted
and no skype segfaults seemingly instantly every time. I have tried
reinstalling via synaptic to no avail.

[Bug 1173529] Re: In kubuntu launching firefox new windows start minimised (after upgrade to 13.04)

2013-04-27 Thread SA
Ok - this appears fixed - I'm not 100% sure how but in a fit of
frustration I hammered cntrl+N in firefox and the first 15 windows
appeared minimised but subsequent ones appeared normally. After
deleting all the minimised windows command line, panel and ctrl-N
launches all work as expected!

More an irritation than a bug - when open a new window or I start
firefox from the panel, command line or ctrl-N new windos don't appear -
they start minimised which is really annoying.

[Bug 1173526] Re: Since upgrading to jubuntu 13.04 computer won't sleep / crashes when sleeping

2013-04-27 Thread SA
I should have added the computer successfully sleeps and resumes if I
use the K-menu:sleep option but has never managed it if I use the power
button (which gives the wide variety of problems mentioned above).

Re: [Bug 990740] Re: upgrading from lucid to precise fails

2012-08-31 Thread Bigal-sa
I'm replying directly here, not via launchpad's bug listing. The first
thing that I tried after the upgrade broke was apt-get -f install, and that
gave me the error that apt (and the upgrade) was broken.

As apt is broken, I would probably have to install python-launchpad outside
of apt/dpkg and that would probably mean modifying the install scripts.

[Bug 990740] Re: upgrading from lucid to precise fails

2012-08-30 Thread Bigal-sa
Strange attitude. This bug pops up in the first week that the point
release is available and now it's marked as invalid.

I did say in my earlier post that apport is broken too. If you offer an
alternative to get the info, I will gladly try it.

Problem also exists with Kubuntu. The upgrade was started with "do-

"apport-cli -p update-manager -u 990740"
results in:
"Could not import module, is a package upgrade in progress? Error: No module

"apt-get install -o APT::Immediate-Configure=false --reinstall python-

didn't help either:

[Bug 910973] Re: external monitors turn off when movie played

2012-04-27 Thread SA
Yes it is still an issue - the related bug (can't detect the monitor
resolution correctly and ignores the EDID False directives) was fixed
but this incredibly annoying bug remains.

It have tried upstream testing with a liveCD but this doesn't use the
nvidia driver so the problem cannot be tested properly, if someone
points to a simple way to test the live CD with the nvidea drivers I
might be able to give this a whirl.

BTW the live CD contains no example movie files and no codecs that could
play any content I had - this pretty much wrecks the potential for
testing video related bugs.

I have also tried with the 290 series nvidia driver but the bug remains
it is still unclear whether the video driver, kde or the video software
/ libraries are to blame.

[Bug 908937] Re: nividia / external monitor / macbook pro

2012-04-15 Thread SA
Tried 12.04 beta without success:

Booting from the live CD doesn't get the nvidia drivers so testing isn't
possible this way (unless you know an easy way to do this).

The nouveau drivers correctly detected the external monitor but the live
CD media player couldn't play any video media I possess so couldn't be
tested against bug # 910973 (perhaps an argument for including some test
files in the distro?).

The live CD could not find any networks on my macbookpro so it is likely
that there is something not quite right about the network setup /
drivers. So no networks => no apport reporting...

On the plus side the nouveau driver seemed to be doing a better job than
I remember although noticibly slower / clunkier for compositing things.

[Bug 908937] Re: nividia / external monitor / macbook pro

2012-04-15 Thread SA
Please see comment #24 - it is fixed with the latest nvidia driver
package from kubuntu (to be precise the computer now correctly detects
the resolution of the one external monitor I've tried it with since I
installed the update last week). I have no idea if the edid options in
xorg work and no intention to test them.

The installation of this driver as been problematic - the first install
(and reboot) resulted in no compositing. Reinstalling appeared to fix
this. However applications that normally use the hardware accelerated
opengl from nvidia appears to have switched to software opengl and are
using mesa - I've no idea how to fix this.

The nvidia driver (or something else) is broken for my macbook
pro because the external monitor still turns off when a movie starts.
This basically wrecks the machine for presentations.

Testing with the next release will have to wait until I upgrade to the
next release - I have no easy way to do this and don't anticipate moving
to 12.xx for some time.

I'm not sure what you are asking wrt the kernel? Are you asking for me
to test this with http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/v3.0.28-oneiric/ ?

My immediate focus is to try to get the opengl libraries working
again...

[Bug 981158] [NEW] since last nvidia update opengl apps are using mesa

2012-04-13 Thread SA
Public bug reported:

Since the latest nvidia update version 280.13-0ubuntu6.1 my opengl apps
are using mesa despite the nvidia driver being loaded and the nvidia
splashscreen showing when X starts.

In usr/lib I have no openGL libraries

In usr/lib32 I have libGL which links to mesa/libGL and libGLU

In synaptic libGLU1 has lots of dependancies, is installed and synaptic
won't say what files it contains "The list of installed files is only
available for installed packages"!

I'm not sure what the problem is, any suggestions?

[Bug 908937] Re: nividia / external monitor / macbook pro

2012-04-13 Thread SA
Using the latest nvidia driver from kubuntu (2.80.13) the monitor
resolution problem appears to be fixed. However this has had some odd
side effects:

First time I installed the driver the mouse buttons and window
maximisation appeared broken - instead of the maximise button giving
vertical max / horizontal max or full screen max (as setup for right /
middle / left click) windows would only horizontal maximise.

Compositing was disbabled

I reinstalled the nvidia drivers and this appeared to fix this problem.

However, applications will only using mesa opengl and not the hardware
accelerated opengl regardless...

The monitor turning off problem bug # 910973 is still present

[Bug 959591] [NEW] Sound is lost when trying to fix Mic

2012-03-19 Thread Vijay SA
Public bug reported:

For many days, the microphone in my laptop was not working. When i
connect USB webcams which has Mic inbuilt in them, that Mic worked
without drivers. But onboard Mic on my laptop never worked.

Later i found that it is not working in Windows vista too. So at that
point i concluded it is an hardware issue. But before doing that itself,
i was wrongly assuming it was an issue of Ubuntu(10.04) and was randomly
checking the net to find a solution.

Then i landed on this site - http://10xforce.blogspot.in/2007/06/ubuntu-
microphone-problems-and.html

and did whatever mentioned there, to find in last that i totally lost
the audio in my laptop! Only after that i read the comments in the blog
and found one more guy posted same issue!!! Without reading that, i went
ahead with the instructions on that blog and now lost my audio :(((

Kindly help me sort this issue :)

[Bug 917559] Re: can not connect internet via bluetooth DUN

2012-01-26 Thread sa
** Description changed:

I can connect internet from ubuntu 11.10 with kernel 2.6.38 via bluetooth DUN
connection (provided by my samsung star wifi phone's Edge internet connection)
But when I try kernel 3.0 or upper, I can not connect internet and get
Permission Denied (13) error.

- Please solve this problem, I can not understand why upgrading cause such
worse situation.
- In my opinion an "upgrade" operation must bring more comfort and more benefit.

[Bug 917559] Re: can not connect internet via bluetooth DUN

2012-01-20 Thread sa
Sorry I have to say this:
The report which I sent is belong to "kernel 3.0.0-14-generic"
Should I send same report for "kernel 2.6.38-11-generic" that I got the bug ?

And I wanna say one more thing; I added this message the needed lines from
"/var/log/messages" :
One is belong to kernel 3.0.0-14-generic (for unsuccessfull try)
The other is belong to kernel 2.6.38-11-generic (for successfull try)

May be helpful.
thank you for your interest.

[Bug 898274] Re: Bluetooth adapter is not in lsusb after sleep

2011-12-01 Thread Lauro Cavalcanti de Sa
Now the bluetooth is working and I will explain you what I did.
In fact, I think it is not a bluetooth's problem only.
After the sleep mode, the usb port where the bluetooth adapter was connect
didn't work anymore.
I tried to connect other things such as HD, mouse and pendrive in this port.
All of them didn't work, but they were with energy.
It seems only that USB port was blocked/disabled.
I connected the bluetooth adapter in other usb ports and it was OK. This means
this adapter's hardware is OK.
Then, I rebooted and the problem was still there.
I turned off the computer, took out everything and started ubuntu and It didn't
work also.
I rebooted and checked my bios, but there is no option to enable/disable usb.
I rebooted again.
I entered in bios once more and I left my notebook on batterie only up to the
"forced" shutdown.
After this, the note was total without energy.
I reconnected the energy cable and started windows.
Everything was working connected in that usb port (hd, mouse, pendrive, etc).
I rebooted and started ubuntu.
Now It is ok.

Next days I will try to reproduce this problem.
I would like to know wich kind information I should collect/or the commands I
should run.
Here follows the result from lsusb command that Vadim #24 asked after bluetooth
working.
