[Bug 696514] [NEW] enabling bpm detection causes banshee to consume high cpu

2011-01-02 Thread Sensiva
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: banshee

I am using banshee from PPA https://launchpad.net/~banshee-team/+archive/ppa
My library is 4267 item, and I left banshee up and running for about 4 days and
it's using 50% of CPU all the time

Disabling BPM detection extension decreased CPU usage back to normal.

It shouldn't take all that time to detect bpm of 4267 items

I am using Maverick 64bit upgraded from Lucid

I purged banshee, then reinstalled, worked fine, till I installed the
banshee-community-extensions. It crashed again.

I kept on uninstalling extensions one by one, and re-launch banshee to
see if it works or not. Finally after uninstalling banshee-extension-
mirage , banshee didn't crash anymore.

I hope this information is useful to you, and feel free to ask for any further
info
Thanks

[Bug 600460] [NEW] debmirror returns exit code zero although there were errors downloading files

2010-06-30 Thread Sensiva
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: debmirror

I am using Ubuntu Lucid 64bit, I am partially mirroring some archives
(Ubuntu and Debian), I use a bash script to restart the mirroring
process in case it failed.

I have noticed that it exits returning code zero even though there were
errors downloading some files, expected behavior is to return a code
other than zero

That's the script I use:
for a in {1..100}
do
echo started at $(date) mirroring $tar
debmirror --progress --verbose --host=ftp.debian.com --root=/debian/
--method=ftp --passive --dist=$tar,$tar-proposed-updates

--di-arch=i386,amd64 --nosource --ignore-missing-release --ignore-release-gpg
--timeout=240 --ignore-small-errors --postcleanup --cleanup
/media/repos/Debian/$tar
exit_code=$?
echo "Exit Code : $exit_code"
if [ "$exit_code" -eq "0" ]; then
{
echo After $a tryouts
echo " ALL DONE "
echo ended at $(date) mirroring $tar
break
}
fi
done

output errors are:

[Bug 595343] [NEW] Typing freezes for 7 seconds or more ...

2010-06-16 Thread Sensiva
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: amsn

In Lucid 64-bit (upgraded from Karmic using alternate CD) aMSN freezes
for seconds while typing in a chat window, and then become responsive
again. I can switch to any other windows like nautilus or whatever, but
when switching back to that frozen window I find it still frozen, I have
to wait for few seconds till it become responsive, any keystrokes I do
are actually being sent but not displayed on realtime.

Rephrase:
What happening is while I am typing in an aMSN chat window, it freezes, any key
presses or mouse clicks are not shown, and all keystrokes I typed while frozen
or mouse scroll are actually sent, but not displayed until it releases the
freeze.
What should happen is I be able to see what I type or mouse scrolls all the
time, this freezing is weird behaviour.

Thanks

[Bug 530179] Re: [lucid] vboxsf mounts defined on /etc/fstab cause errors on boot

2010-04-20 Thread Sensiva
Please note that vboxsf stops the boot process even when choosing
recovery mode (an error message is given tho). I am not sure this is
related to plymouth too or not. In such situation I used to recover
using alternate CD.

So bottom line is the expected behavior in normal boot mode is either
mounting that shared folder or skipping it if error occurs with a
warning message. In recovery boot mode it should continue to the
recovery menu even if an error occurred.

Please update bug summary if necessary, and let me know of any further
tests required

Appreciate your work
Thank you

both worked, pressing S skipps mounting the shared folder, I have to

Still the shared folder isn't mounted automatically.

[Bug 493300] Re: apt doesn't install packages right after fetching them from pre-built repos DVDs (or does not fetch them at all (Karmic))

2010-03-02 Thread Sensiva
I really appreciate your consideration. I would like to tell you that
this issue is critical in zones where high speed Internet connection
isn't an option. Before Karmic we used to burn those DVDs after building
them, now Karmic users have to copy the whole repos in the hard drive
(about 50GB of files) which raises problems of free space and file
system errors.

Thank you all for your efforts
Good Luck

[Bug 493300] Re: apt doesn't install packages right after fetching them from pre-built repos DVDs

I confirm this bug doesn't exist in Lucid, I tested it on Lucid alpha3,
it worked fine, except that apt-get takes about 30 seconds to prompt for
the next disc.

[Bug 493300] Re: apt doesn't install packages right after fetching them from pre-built repos DVDs

2010-03-01 Thread Sensiva
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 523395 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/523395

I don't think this bug is duplicate of #523395 because of the following:

 - Installing packages from online archives works fine in Karmic
 - Installing packages from local archives works fine in Karmic
 - If packages to be installed are located on the same DVD disc the
installation finishes successfully

Quote : Let me describe it in details. If I want to install a program
that needs more than one package, and those packages are located on
different DVDs, APT used to fetch then install then ask for the next
disc. But with Karmic, after fetching it doesn't install, it prompts for
the next discs... etc and then starts installation , the packages
currently in the last disc in the drive are installed, then giving an
error about the other packages which are located in the previous discs
because they are not there. Its not a problem in the discs, I think its
APT behavior itself that should be changed. Unfortunately I don't know
how to adjust this way of APT in Karmic. but a workaround for this is
pointing APT to the local repos already downloaded on the harddrive and
not using the created DVDs. I have tested it and worked fine.

Thank you

of uptime I rebooted, everything worked just fine.

I hope this means that this bug is fixed, and get it fixed in Karmic too

Feel free to ask for any info or tests

[Bug 518632] [NEW] gedit doesn't open txt files

2010-02-07 Thread Sensiva
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

When I try to open a normal text file using gedit it gives the following error
Could not open the file /Readme.txt.
gedit has not been able to detect the character coding.
Please check that you are not trying to open a binary file.
Select a character coding from the menu au try again.

choosing any of the available encodings in the list doesn't work, the
file is in English anyway.

I am using Karmic amd64

I thought it may be my installation is broken , so I tried the same on a
fresh install of Karmic in virtualbox, the same thing happened.

mean by "Alternatively you could try with a newer kernel from:

[Bug 517417] [NEW] Rebooting after relatively long uptime, Xorg gives an error of No Valid Modes

2010-02-04 Thread Sensiva
Public bug reported:

It is happening again and again, after leaving my workstation up for
long time (3 days or more) and rebooting... gdm starts in low graphics
mode after showing an error of No Valid Modes. I have to shutdown and
disconnect the power plugs for about 15 minutes, then power up again, to
find everything is working fine.

This never happens with Debian, Fedora or Windows, only Karmic (I remember it
happened many times during the days of Hardy)
My PC is Dell Optiplex 755 with Intel Q35 VGA , and HP monitor model hp p 1230.
I am using Karmic amd64.

2009-12-06 Thread Sensiva
No I am not running from a live cd, this is a fresh install of Karmic
amd64

attached my sources.list

For your information I am using a pre-built DVDs repo. and you gave me a
hint why this happened.

APT isn't installing packages right after prompting the DVD to insert
for fetching, it keeps prompting for all required discs for fetching
packages, then start installing, giving an error for those packages
which its DVD isn't in the drive.

In previous releases (eg. Jaunty) APT fetches packages, installs them,
then prompt for the next DVD.

[Bug 462241] Re: Grub takes along time to load the list and the kernel

2009-10-31 Thread Sensiva
Anish_D here is the full details of my scenario:
I have two hard drives, /dev/sda (has Windows and Hardy) and /dev/sdb (empty),
I did a fresh install of a daily build of Karmic (27th of Oct.). During setup I
have been prompted to install GRUB and I hit OK, apparently it has installed
GRUB2 on /dev/sda (on top of legacy grub of Hardy) then the described above
issue came up. I don't know is this issue because of a bug in GRUB2 or because
it has been installed on top of legacy grub.

Later on, I did a fresh install of the final release of Karmic, but this
time I choosed to install grub on /dev/sdb -in this case it is (hd1)-
the issue didn't appear, GRUB menu loaded just fine. that's why I marked
the question as fix-released

Here is how I recovered from the first situation:
- restore Windows XP mbr using MBRFIX utility (freeware)
http://www.sysint.no/products/Download/tabid/536/language/nb-NO/Default.aspx
- Install legacy grub using LiveCD of Hardy (or later but not Karmic) but
mounting Hardy's partition (/media/hardy) and then in terminal - In terminal do
"sudo grub-install (hd0) --root-directory=/media/hardy"
- reboot , now I got back my old grub list

Please refer to grub wiki page for more info
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/grub, and let me know if you had more problems

2009-10-29 Thread Sensiva
I tried Karmic daily build AlternateCD 27th of Oct. and those two issues
has been fixed, it loaded faster like legacy grub and it detected all my
installtion

May be those issues happened because I installed it on top of legacy
grub of hardy (without uninstalling legacy grub first)

I tried the workaround mentioned in the first post

"Add i915.modeset=0 to the kernel cmdline args"

The msg disappeared , yet Xorg didn't start, and the monitor went to
sleep mode, pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL rebooted the system, I saw upstart
msgs of unmounting and stopping services ...etc which means it was still
up, but there was no video
