Public bug reported: Binary package hint: amsn In Lucid 64-bit (upgraded from Karmic using alternate CD) aMSN freezes for seconds while typing in a chat window, and then become responsive again. I can switch to any other windows like nautilus or whatever, but when switching back to that frozen window I find it still frozen, I have to wait for few seconds till it become responsive, any keystrokes I do are actually being sent but not displayed on realtime. Rephrase: What happening is while I am typing in an aMSN chat window, it freezes, any key presses or mouse clicks are not shown, and all keystrokes I typed while frozen or mouse scroll are actually sent, but not displayed until it releases the freeze. What should happen is I be able to see what I type or mouse scrolls all the time, this freezing is weird behaviour. Please note that vboxsf stops the boot process even when choosing recovery mode (an error message is given tho). I am not sure this is related to plymouth too or not. In such situation I used to recover using alternate CD. So bottom line is the expected behavior in normal boot mode is either mounting that shared folder or skipping it if error occurs with a warning message. [Bug 493300] Re: apt doesn't install packages right after fetching them from pre-built repos DVDs
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 523395 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/523395 I don't think this bug is duplicate of #523395 because of the following: - Installing packages from online archives works fine in Karmic - Installing packages from local archives works fine in Karmic - If packages to be installed are located on the same DVD disc the installation finishes successfully Quote : Let me describe it in details. If I want to install a program that needs more than one package, and those packages are located on different DVDs, APT used to fetch then install then ask for the next disc. But with Karmic, after fetching it doesn't install, it prompts for the next discs... etc and then starts installation , the packages currently in the last disc in the drive are installed, then giving an error about the other packages which are located in the previous discs because they are not there. Its not a problem in the discs, I think its APT behavior itself that should be changed. Unfortunately I don't know how to adjust this way of APT in Karmic. but a workaround for this is pointing APT to the local repos already downloaded on the harddrive and not using the created DVDs. I have tested it and worked fine. http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=2100699&postcount=1 Thank you -- apt doesn't install packages right after fetching them from pre-built repos DVDs https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/493300 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 462241] Re: Grub takes along time to load the list and the kernel
Anish_D here is the full details of my scenario: I have two hard drives, /dev/sda (has Windows and Hardy) and /dev/sdb (empty), I did a fresh install of a daily build of Karmic (27th of Oct.). During setup I have been prompted to install GRUB and I hit OK, apparently it has installed GRUB2 on /dev/sda (on top of legacy grub of Hardy) then the described above issue came up. I don't know is this issue because of a bug in GRUB2 or because it has been installed on top of legacy grub. Later on, I did a fresh install of the final release of Karmic, but this time I choosed to install grub on /dev/sdb -in this case it is (hd1)- the issue didn't appear, GRUB menu loaded just fine. that's why I marked the question as fix-released Here is how I recovered from the first situation: - restore Windows XP mbr using MBRFIX utility (freeware) http://www.sysint.no/products/Download/tabid/536/language/nb-NO/Default.aspx - Install legacy grub using LiveCD of Hardy (or later but not Karmic) but mounting Hardy's partition (/media/hardy) and then in terminal - In terminal do "sudo grub-install (hd0) --root-directory=/media/hardy" - reboot , now I got back my old grub list Please refer to grub wiki page for more info http://wiki.ubuntu.com/grub, and let me know if you had more problems -- Grub takes along time to load the list and the kernel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/462241 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 462241] Re: Grub takes along time to load the list and the kernel
I tried Karmic daily build AlternateCD 27th of Oct. and those two issues has been fixed, it loaded faster like legacy grub and it detected all my installtion May be those issues happened because I installed it on top of legacy grub of hardy (without uninstalling legacy grub first) ** Changed in: grub2 (Ubuntu) Status: New => Fix Released -- Grub takes along time to load the list and the kernel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/462241 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 404421] Re: "Failed to restore crtc configuration: -22" on i915
I tried the workaround mentioned in the first post "Add i915.modeset=0 to the kernel cmdline args" The msg disappeared , yet Xorg didn't start, and the monitor went to sleep mode, pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL rebooted the system, I saw upstart msgs of unmounting and stopping services ...etc which means it was still up, but there was no video -- "Failed to restore crtc configuration: -22" on i915 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/404421 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
