[Bug 2073651] [NEW] Wifi does not work after wake-up, wifi driver crashes
Public bug reported: After waking up from sleep, wifi does not work anymore. It looks like the machine is connected to wifi though. If I disable and re-enable the wifi connection, the driver crashes. The crash is shown is dmesg. I have attached a file that shows what is going on. I have installed the latest 6.9.9 mainline and the issue does not happen with it. 6.8.0.35 causes issues for me. [Bug 1335558] Re: lexmark e230 needs usb-no-reattach-default=true
Hi, If it's related to this bug, then it could be that it needs an entry in: /usr/share/cups/usb/org.cups.usb-quirks You will need to get the correct usb IDs from lsusb. Quoting from the file I mentioned: # To get the USB vendor and product IDs for a given printer, run the "lsusb" # command, which will show something like the following: # # Bus 002 Device 003: ID ab21:34dc Acme Example Printer # # The "ab21:34dc" is the vendor and product ID, separated by a colon. [Bug 1497705] [NEW] [wishlist] add ability to start live session with proprietary drivers
Public bug reported: Hello, I ask you to please consider adding the ability to start a live session using proprietary video drivers. One of the most notorious trouble makers are the nVidia GT(X) 9xx series of cards which nouveau does not support. As far as I can tell nVidia has not provided the required firmware which nouveau uses to be able to talk to the GPUs. People attempting to run a live session of Ubuntu on machines using these GPUs can't easily do so. One example of a user in difficulty is here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Ubuntu/comments/3lin5g/bad_first_experience/ Sure, doing a text mode install is an option but the point of the live session is to enable people to run the OS and test it out without touching their hardware. There are a bunch of distributions which do this. One is Manjaro. They have an option to boot with non-free drivers in GRUB. Once that option is selected the GPU is detected and the correct driver is loaded. Ideally we should not need this but some GPU vendors are more inclined to cooperate with the FOSS community than others. User experience should not have to suffer because of this sort of issues. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: wishlist -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1497705 Title: [wishlist] add ability to start live session with proprietary drivers To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1497705/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1491929] [NEW] update-manager asks for reboot even when it should not
Public bug reported: update-manager asks for reboots even when updating kernels which are not currently in use. I use a self compiled 4.1.6 kernel using the sources from kernel.org and the patches from Canonical's mainline kernel ppa. Today I got an update for bind and the 3.13 series kernel. After the update, I was asked whether I wanted to reboot or not. There was no reason to. I don't use the 3.13 kernels currently. They're there as a backup. As for BIND. It's just a service that can be restarted on the fly. Please consider making the update utility a bit smarter about this sort of thing. [Bug 1283979] Re: moving windows causes the top bar and the launcher bar to flicker
The workaround that I found was to disable flipping in nvidia-settings but this shouldn't be a permanent fix because it potentially degrades OpenGL performance: Option "NoFlip" "boolean" Disable OpenGL flipping; see Chapter 17 for a description. Default: OpenGL will swap by flipping when possible. [...] o Flipping: When OpenGL flipping is enabled, OpenGL can perform buffer swaps by changing which buffer the DAC scans out rather than copying the back buffer contents to the front buffer; this is generally a much higher performance mechanism and allows tearless swapping during the vertical retrace (when __GL_SYNC_TO_VBLANK is set). The conditions under which OpenGL can flip are slightly complicated, but in general: on GeForce or newer hardware, OpenGL can flip when a single full screen unobscured OpenGL application is running, and __GL_SYNC_TO_VBLANK is enabled. Additionally, OpenGL can flip on Quadro hardware even when an OpenGL window is partially obscured or not full screen or __GL_SYNC_TO_VBLANK is not enabled. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1283979 Title: moving windows causes the top bar and the launcher bar to flicker To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1283979/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

It seems I have finally fixed my problem. I was having issues like those described on bug #872483. In my case: printer Lexmark-E230 is idle. enabled since Wed 19 Jun 2013 03:35:49 PM EEST Sending data to printer. so the above command becomes: lpadmin -p Lexmark-E230 -o usb-no-reattach-default=true Turned the printer off, waited a bit, turned it back on and the tried running some print jobs. It stopped printing gibberish after completing the first print job Here's the relevant lsusb printout: Bus 002 Device 009: ID 043d:009a Lexmark International, Inc. [Bug 1153545] [NEW] network-manager loses wired interfaces
Public bug reported: For some reason, sometimes network-manager seems to forget I've one of the wired interfaces. The computer would start-up right, it connects to my ISP and sometimes a po-up would show saying that I've been disconnected. If I want to reconnect I can't because the connection does not show up any more. If I do a "sudo service network-manager restart" the conenction will come up again and it will show in the indicator. [Bug 1049214] Re: [nvidia] XSync usage is a massive bottlenecking factor (nvidia performance regression in Compiz 0.9.8+)
With the 310.14 nvidia drivers, unchecking "sync to vblank" in the nvidia-settings utility seems to make the problem of windows stuttering during dragging go away. It seems this option defaults to "on" in the 310 series. Looks like compiz doing v-sync and the driver doing v-sync is a bad combination. Can anyone else with nvidia cards and the 310 series driver confirm this? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1049214 Title: [nvidia] XSync usage is a massive bottlenecking factor (nvidia performance regression in Compiz 0.9.8+) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/1049214/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1068811] [NEW] installing this package conflicts with nvidia-settings-updates
Public bug reported: If the nvidia post release updates driver is installed, trying to activate the 310 experimental nvidia blob will fail. However, the driver *does* get installed and can be used. The nvidia-settings- experimental-310 fails to install though. Fixing this requires that the nvidia-settings-updates package be removed first and then installing the nvidia-settings-experimental-310 package. [Bug 1037453] Re: compiz 1:0.9.7.8-0ubuntu1.4, performance regression
Hi Daniel, Yes, I too believe that what's described in bug #1049214 seems to fit what's happening on screen. Please mark this as a dupe of that bug report. On a side-note there was something that caught my eye in the latest nvidia driver beta: Version 310.14 Release DateMon Oct 15, 2012 * Improved performance and responsiveness of windowed OpenGL applications running inside a Unity session. While this may not cure the issues in this bug report it might restore performance lost when gaming. [Bug 1037453] Re: compiz 1:0.9.7.8-0ubuntu1.4, performance regression
Hello, Managed to get back nouveau. Had some apt issues because I installed the previous version of the compiz packs. I can't tell you how well windows moving was with version 0.9.7.8-0ubuntu1.2 but with the latest version it dragging windows seems smooth. I do get a bit of tearing when moving windows around. It shows mostly on vertical moves. With the nvidia driver, this new version of compiz manages to shave off about 10 fps (compared to the old version) in games I run with Crossover (wine). silviu@silviu-pangolin:~$ dpkg -s compiz Package: compiz Status: install ok installed Priority: optional Section: x11 Installed-Size: 59 Maintainer: Ubuntu Developers Architecture: all Version: 1:0.9.7.8-0ubuntu1.4 Provides: x-window-manager Depends: compiz-core (>= 1:0.9.7.8-0ubuntu1.4), compiz-plugins-default (>= 1:0.9.7.8-0ubuntu1.4), compiz-gnome | compiz-kde, compiz-plugins-main-default (>= 0.9), libcompizconfig0 (>= 0.9.7.0~bzr428-0ubuntu2) Suggests: compizconfig-settings-manager If I can help you troubleshoot more, let me know. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1037453 Title: compiz 1:0.9.7.8-0ubuntu1.4, performance regression To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/1037453/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1037453] Re: compiz 1:0.9.7.8-0ubuntu1.4, performance regression
Hello, Installing the debs like that worked but apt is complaining now about having a broken dbase. Windows move smoothly again. Running sudo apt-get install -f is not an option.
