[Bug 418646] Re: Speaker creaks on Dell Latitude E6400
I think it's some kind of power saving mechanism. I have found a notice on an archlinux wiki page about alsa where It says, that you should try to load the "snd-hda-intel" module with the option "power_save=0" by directly loading it from the commandline or by adding "options snd-hda- intel power_save=0" to the modprobe.conf file. I couldn't test it on my machine because I have no version of Karmic installed right now, but maybe someone could give it a try. [Bug 418646] [NEW] Speaker creaks on Dell Latitude E6400
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: alsa-base First of all, notice that sound used to work well on Jaunty so this is likely to be a regression (some kind of power saving feature?). I noticed this problem while testing Karmic for the first time (around alpha 3) and it's still there in alpha 4 now. >From time to time the internal speakers creak no matter if it's muted or not. Everything works fine, excepts that the speaker creaks whenever there is no sound played for a couple of seconds (something around 13 seconds). Its like the sound when you have a speaker plugged into a power socket and turn on a vacuum cleaner, or anything else that needs a lot of power for a few seconds. The creaking is quite loud and really annoying, so I hope this can be fixed easily. [Bug 179249] Re: inverse messages on device unmount
The bug seems to be fixed in Ubuntu 8.10. Whether I unmount using the desktop icon, the "places" panel plugin or the shell command, it works. Thank you. Nevertheless, two ideas on how to improve launchpad: 1. Launchpad could provide a howto on how to file a bug report. Information as for example my ubuntu version or whatever else was missing could have been included in the first run. Maybe I've just missed it, fact is that I did not find any help on filing a bug report and noone pointed it out to me. 2. DebuggingRemovableDevices relies heavily on users with the Gnome desktop. Sorry, if there was a form field for this, I must have missed it. Here you go: Currently, I am using 8.04 with the 2.6.24-21-generic kernel. I don't know what package contains the code responsible, but xfdesktop or something about hal is quite likely. To be honest, I have no idea what further information you need about this issue. Do you need package information or further data about my system? Please ask! And yes, this is still an issue, as this popup window appears everytime I try to unmount any USB connected device via the desktop icon.
