[Bug 1874559] Re: Fractional Scaling resets after reboot
I'm copying my comment from bug 1857383 as I think this one is more pertinent. I'm on xorg, you can find the apport information in bug 1857383 starting comment #22. Using the NVIDIA driver I was affected by bug 1870736 and bug 1873403. I moved to the Nouveau drivers and the issues above were gone. However, I notice a strange issue with display settings persistence. I have 2 screens (HDMI3-3 FHD, DP-1 4K primary), which I'd like to have respectively at 100% and 150% scale: $ xrandr | grep " connected" DP-1 connected primary 5120x2880+3840+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 607mm x 345mm HDMI-3 connected 3840x2160+0+302 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 160mm x 90mm Whenever I set the 4K screen to 150% scale, any changes won't persist after reboot. If I change any other settings (like changing screen positions), leave scale as 100%, the changes I make do persist on reboot. If after reboot I attempt to set 4K screen to 150% not only the change won't persist after reboot, but it will go back to the initial state (effectively undoing the previous changes too). How do I reproduce the issue: 1) Ensure my system is on Nouveau drivers 2) HDMI-3 (FHD) is currently on the right, DP-1 (4K) on the left 3) Display settings, swap screen positions: HDMI-3 (FHD) on the left, DP-1 (4K) on the right 4) Reboot 5) Verify changes persisted: HDMI-3 (FHD) is on the left, DP-1 (4K) on the right 6) Set DP-1 scale to 150% 7) Reboot 8) Verify not only changes didn't persist, but the status is back as 2), with screens going back to their original position -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1874559 Title: Fractional Scaling resets after reboot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1874559/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1857383] Re: Fractional scaling does not work anymore
How do I reproduce the issue: 1) Ensure my system is on Nouveau drivers 2) HDMI-3 (FHD) is currently on the right, DP-1 (4K) on the left 3) Display settings, swap screen positions: HDMI-3 (FHD) on the left, DP-1 (4K) on the right 4) Reboot 5) Verify changes persisted: HDMI-3 (FHD) is on the left, DP-1 (4K) on the right 6) Set DP-1 scale to 150% 7) Reboot 8) Verify not only changes didn't persist, but the status is back as 2), with screens going back to their original position -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1857383 Title: Fractional scaling does not work anymore To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1857383/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1793595] Re: [radeon] Shell freezes, mostly when running chrome or editing text files.
I can confirm this bug is an upstream bug. I moved from Ubuntu to Fedora for this reason but it's still present even on the latest Fedora 30 with kernel 5.0.17. Gnome shell (xorg or wayland) freezes mostly when using Chrome, I can't get Sys info during the freeze because keyboard and mouse aren't responding. No issues on KDE Plasma desktop. [Bug 1820760] Re: Teclast F6 Pro touchpad not recognized Ubuntu 18.04.2
Hello Po-Hsu Lin, Thank you very much for your support. I understand you do not want to risk damaging already working devices with a so big change on a LTS release. I use Ubuntu for my job, I need a rock solid system. Therefore I prefer to use a standard more reliable GE kernel and use an external USB mouse on my laptop. In my new Teclast laptop I installed 18.04.2, therefore it should automatically updated to the new kernel with the touchpad fix on the next point release: 18.04.3. I think that should happen on August/September. At that time I will throw away the external mouse to go back to the laptop touchpad. Thank you very much for all your efforts. [Bug 1820760] Re: Teclast F6 Pro touchpad not recognized Ubuntu 18.04.2
Dear Po-Hsu Lin, First of all thank you for your work, which I appreciate a lot. With the new kernel the touchpad works. Public bug reported: I have just bought a new laptop from Teclast model F6 Pro. I have installed Ubuntu LTS 18.04.2 (kernel 4.18.0-16-generic). [Bug 1705391] Re: PPP crash after a while, start sending crazy packets
Guys, seems I have found the conditions in which it happens. I have successfully managed to *not* make it happen. If you set the radius server IP property to match the public address, this crash *will* happen, no matter what MTU or other encryption things are set. PPP on Android doesn't have this problem. Let's assume your PPTP server is at public IP 1.2.3.4, and such server has an inside LAN IP of 192.168.79.1, you have two options: A) You can leave the server IP property empty, in which case ppp will work just fine ! B) You can set to a value, in order to do some manual routing on client side later on by using that server IP. But, if you set such property to 1.2.3.4 (matching exactly the public IP on which the interface connects to) it will create this race condition after a while and start sending crazy packets, crashing the ppp module. Could be due to a looping-back broadcast. Even though it might not be important for everyone, it shouldn't happen that a property set on server side can crash a module on the client. There should be a check. [Bug 1705391] [NEW] PPP crash after a while, start sending crazy packets
Public bug reported: Hey guys, I have a very weird issue here. PPP works fine for 1-5 minutes, then it hangs with CPU usage very high, and I noticed it start uploading insane (but fake) bytes to the tunnel. To do a simple test, I started watching a YouTube video, and when the problem started to happen: ppp0 Link encap:Point-to-Point Protocol inet addr:172.16.99.9 P-t-P:xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx Mask:255.255.255.255 UP POINTOPOINT RUNNING NOARP MULTICAST MTU:1400 Metric:1 RX packets:26586 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:5921622 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:3 RX bytes:35077655 (35.0 MB) TX bytes:2885396935 (2.8 GB) Then it crashed, and VPN turned itself off. I tried everything: MTU, tunnel parameters etc. Please note I am a guy with 20+ years experience in networking and I own an IT company. This is definitely a BUG of PPP. It started happening since Ubuntu 16.04, before I never had this issue. [Bug 1701788] [NEW] /usr/bin/plasmashell debug symbols are not provided by plasma-workspace-dbgsym
Public bug reported: I'm trying to debug a crash of plasmashell and for generating a useful crash report I need to install the debug symbols. plasmashell is part of the package plasma-workspace, so I installed the package plasma-workspace-dbgsym, but also in this case when the crash happen it complains that the debug symbols for /usr/bin/plasmashell are not installed. [Bug 1525554] Re: [HP ProBook 470 G3, Intel Skylake HDMI, Digital Out, HDMI] No sound at all
Pending resolution of the bug I found an accidental solution... I don't know if it helps bug resolution. Since I don't have any Output Card listed in Audo Settings, executing alsa_setup.sh (from http://www.stchman.com/alsa_update.html) it create permanently a new "Dummy Output", obviously not working. Then running these commands audio from speakers is working until shutdown: sudo modprobe snd-hda-intel sudo alsa force-reload <--for 3 times but waiting 10-15 seconds between one and the other This is a very strange workaround, but it work for me! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1525554 Title: [HP ProBook 470 G3, Intel Skylake HDMI, Digital Out, HDMI] No sound at all To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/1525554/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1487214] Re: Intel AC 7260 unstable WiFi: Microcode SW error detected
Joseph, I moved to a different place where the WiFi router is right next to my computer, and the instabilities are gone. It seems the bug only happens when the WiFi connection is weak or unstable (e.g. behind many walls or on different floors). In the actual conditions I experienced this bug, I had a repeater sucking the connection from the nearby house of a relative (say 50m away). I'll try to test with the upstream kernel, but I have to reproduce the weak WiFi conditions first. [Bug 1462358] [NEW] system freezes when closing dropbox folder window
Public bug reported: I have nautilus-dropbox installed, when I close the dropbox folder window (left click on the cross in the upper left corner) the computer freezes (mouse icon moves correctly, but the rest of the screen is still) and the window remains open. This situation goes back to normal pressing the power button for a short time: a window is prompted asking whether I want to shut-down or restart and dropbox window closes, at this point it is possible to resume. Pressing any other button doesn't change anything, except I can access other tty (CTRL-ALT-Fx). I open dropbox folder by clicking "open dropbox folder" in the dropbox icon (upper right corner of the screen). [Bug 1415287] Re: Cannot access menus using the keyboard in Java swing applications with jayatana
Vanilla Ubuntu 15.04 for me, and I have the same issue, mnemonics for Swing apps do not work (e.g. JConsole, JVisualVM, IntelliJ, etc.), while they work for SWT apps (e.g. Eclipse RCP apps). The mnemonics (the underscore below the letter to press to make the menu popup to appear) are not displayed in the menubar, and trying to press the key combination by memory (e.g. Alt+F to open the File menu) does not work either, as was originally reported. Removing jayatana and rebooting solves the issue of the mnemonics, but of course you lose the integration. Also, it is very, *very* annoying that using jayatana prints out in the console "Picked up JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONS: -javaagent:/usr/share/java/jayatanaag.jar". -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1415287 Title: Cannot access menus using the keyboard in Java swing applications with jayatana To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/jayatana/+bug/1415287/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I forgot to write kcpr (mkasprzyk5) explains how to fix this bug on post #15. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1362848 Title: ubuntu 14.04 after install nvidia binary driver 331.89 black screen and freeze To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-331/+bug/1362848/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1362848] Re: ubuntu 14.04 after install nvidia binary driver 331.89 black screen and freeze
I fixed the problem with my nvidia graphic card using the post #15. Thank you very much kcpr (mkasprzyk5) without your help I would not be albe to fix it. Here how I fixed in details: Log out and go to the console: CTRL-ALT-F1 if (like me) you tried to install latest nvidia driver (nvidia-340 ...), you need to revert back with following commands: sudo apt-get install ppa-purge sudo ppa-purge xorg-edgers sudo apt-get purge nvidia* Then copy all xorg config files in a temporary dir: cd mkdir temp sudo mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf* ./temp/ Then clean, update, upgrade and reboot the system: sudo apt-get autoremove sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade sudo reboot Go to the console: CTRL-ALT-F1 Install nvidia 331: sudo apt-get install nvidia-331 nvidia-prime Copy the old xorg.conf made by nvidia back in its directory: sudo cp temp/xorg.conf.nvidia-xconfig-original /etc/X11/xorg.conf And edit it (I used vi, you may prefer nano): sudo vi /etc/X11/xorg.conf To be as the following: Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "layout" Screen 0 "nvidia" Inactive "intel" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "intel" Driver "intel" BusID "PCI:0@0:2:0" Option "AccelMethod" "SNA" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "intel" Device "intel" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "nvidia" Driver "nvidia" BusID "PCI:1@0:0:0" Option "ConstrainCursor" "off" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "nvidia" Device "nvidia" Option "AllowEmptyInitialConfiguration" "on" Option "IgnoreDisplayDevices" "CRT" EndSection Eventually reboot the system: sudo reboot Now I have nvidia set as graphic card and the hardware acceleration works fine.
I have a laptop Asus K53s with nVidia GeForce GT 540M. I (freshly) installed Ubuntu 14.04 64bit and set up nvidia-331 proprietary driver for the graphic card. I set prime option to run nVidia acceleration and it used to work fine. On 25th Janaury 2015, there was an Ubuntu software update (from apt log I saw it was updated nvidia-settings, and other stuff) after which I see a black screen instead of the login screen. I tried to switch to intel graphic card (sudo prime-switch intel) but it gives erros, it is not able to switch to intel. I tried to purge nvidia* and then install nvidia-340, but it still shows black screen instead of login. The only way to use my laptop is to install: apt-get install nvidia-current-updates which is the driver nvidia-304. But it uses the intel graphics card. It is not possible switch to nVidia neither with sudo prime-switch nvidia nor with nvidia-setting graphic utility. I need to use my nVidia card for graphic acceleration (OpenGL). At the moment the laptop is too slow for my activity (CAD).
