[Bug 2073168] [NEW] update to ubuntu 24 crashes

2024-07-15 Thread simone parmeggiani
Public bug reported:

Impossibile calcolare l'avanzamento

Launchpad PPA e riprovare l'avanzamento.

all'avanzamento. In particolare, consultare i file «main.log» e
«apt.log».

[Bug 1903851] [NEW] Tomcat9: multipart upload fails over https

2020-11-11 Thread Simone Levy
Public bug reported:

Tomcat version 9.0.31 has a bug that prevents multipart uploads over encrypted
connections.
This happens with the NIO SSL Connector, which is the one that gets
auto-selected on my system.

FAIL - Deploy Upload Failed, Exception:
[org.apache.tomcat.util.http.fileupload.impl.IOFileUploadException:
Processing of multipart/form-data request failed.
java.net.SocketTimeoutException]

https://bz.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=64195
https://bz.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=64202

The bug is not present in the next Tomcat upstream release, but it seems
the correction has not been ported back to Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS in the
tomcat9 package, version 9.0.31-1ubuntu0.1.

On a side note, the bug seems to be present also on the current tomcat9
package, version 9.0.31-1~deb10u2 for Debian 10.

[Bug 1874559] Re: Fractional Scaling resets after reboot

2020-04-26 Thread Simone Liguori
I'm copying my comment from bug 1857383 as I think this one is more
pertinent. I'm on xorg, you can find the apport information in bug
1857383 starting comment #22.

Using the NVIDIA driver I was affected by bug 1870736 and bug 1873403.
I moved to the Nouveau drivers and the issues above were gone.

However, I notice a strange issue with display settings persistence.

I have 2 screens (HDMI3-3 FHD, DP-1 4K primary), which I'd like to have
respectively at 100% and 150% scale:
$ xrandr | grep " connected"
DP-1 connected primary 5120x2880+3840+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y
axis) 607mm x 345mm
HDMI-3 connected 3840x2160+0+302 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
160mm x 90mm

Whenever I set the 4K screen to 150% scale, any changes won't persist
after reboot. If I change any other settings (like changing screen
positions), leave scale as 100%, the changes I make do persist on
reboot.

If after reboot I attempt to set 4K screen to 150% not only the change
won't persist after reboot, but it will go back to the initial state
(effectively undoing the previous changes too).

How do I reproduce the issue:

1) Ensure my system is on Nouveau drivers
2) HDMI-3 (FHD) is currently on the right, DP-1 (4K) on the left
3) Display settings, swap screen positions: HDMI-3 (FHD) on the left, DP-1 (4K)
on the right
4) Reboot
5) Verify changes persisted: HDMI-3 (FHD) is on the left, DP-1 (4K) on the right
6) Set DP-1 scale to 150%
7) Reboot
8) Verify not only changes didn't persist, but the status is back as 2), with
screens going back to their original position

[Bug 1859632]

2020-01-16 Thread Simone Gaiarin
Git commit f15e8568a5330b6795b1dd5287a6a1530dc60476 by Simone Gaiarin.
Committed on 25/07/2019 at 18:09.
Pushed by gaiarin into branch 'master'.

General improvements to stamp annotation

Summary:
Configuration:
- Add push button to select custom stamp image
- Check if loaded image is usable as stamp or throw error
- Keep image proportions in previewer
- Move previewer below the combobox to display larger preview

Annotation tool:
- Keep stamp image proportion in annotation preview (while left mouse button is
down)
- Adding the annotation with one-click (without holding the left mouse button
and dragging) adds the stamp with original proportions
Related: bug 370381, bug 383652
FIXED-IN: 1.9.0

Closes T8074

TODO:
- [ ] Check if filters in file chooser make sense / propose better alternative
- [x] Update doc ( @yurchor will do it after we merge this)

Test Plan:
>From stamp annotation configuration dialog:
- Show a warning regarding limitations of the feature's current implementation
- Click push button next to combo box opens a file selector
- Selecting a corrupted image file should throw an error
- Selecting a good image file shows the preview of the image
- Select a horizontal image shows a large clear preview
- Select a vertical image file shows a smaller preview without messing up the
visual of the config dialog
- Input a valid icon name in the combobox and the preview of the icon is shown

>From page view, select the stamp annotation with horizontal image file (not
>squared):
- Click and hold. The preview maintains proportions
- Single click. The stamp image in the pdf maintains proportions and has the
same size of the click and hold preview.
- Add an annotation of the Okular custom stamps (internal SVG so treated
slightly differently) do not create problems

[Bug 1793595] Re: [radeon] Shell freezes, mostly when running chrome or editing text files.

2019-05-24 Thread Simone Tolotti
I can confirm this bug is an upstream bug.
I moved from Ubuntu to Fedora for this reason but it's still present even on
the latest Fedora 30 with kernel 5.0.17.
Gnome shell (xorg or wayland) freezes mostly when using Chrome, I can't get Sys
info during the freeze because keyboard and mouse aren't responding.
No issues on KDE Plasma desktop.
Tested on my work laptop (above 8 hours daily activity), Gnome freezes 4/5
times a day.

Display controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Topaz XT
[Radeon R7 M260/M265 / M340/M360 / M440/M445] (rev c1)

It also happens on my home desktop PC with Radeon HD7000.

[Bug 1820760] Re: Teclast F6 Pro touchpad not recognized Ubuntu 18.04.2

2019-05-16 Thread Simone Pernice
Hello Po-Hsu Lin,

Thank you very much for your support.

I understand you do not want to risk damaging already working devices
with a so big change on a LTS release.

I use Ubuntu for my job, I need a rock solid system. Therefore I prefer
to use a standard more reliable GE kernel and use an external USB mouse
on my laptop.

In my new Teclast laptop I installed 18.04.2, therefore it should
automatically updated to the new kernel with the touchpad fix on the
next point release: 18.04.3. I think that should happen on
August/September. At that time I will throw away the external mouse to
go back to the laptop touchpad.

Thank you very much for all your efforts.

Best Regards,
Simone

[Bug 1820760] Re: Teclast F6 Pro touchpad not recognized Ubuntu 18.04.2

2019-04-12 Thread Simone Pernice
Dear Po-Hsu Lin,

First of all thank you for your work, which I appreciate a lot. With the
new kernel the touchpad works.

That is the only message I see about the I2C SYNA3602:

4.18.0-18-generic

[4.219209] i2c_hid i2c-SYNA3602:00: i2c-SYNA3602:00 supply vdd not
found, using dummy regulator

The touchpad works fine (also two finger gesture is recognized).

The following messages are what I got with the original Ubuntu kernel
(today, just before installing your patched version):

4.18.0-16-generic

[4.121498] i2c_hid i2c-SYNA3602:00: i2c-SYNA3602:00 supply vdd not found,
using dummy regulator
[4.126254] i2c_hid i2c-SYNA3602:00: unexpected HID descriptor bcdVersion
(0x)

It would be very helpful if you could add that patch to the official
Ubuntu Linux so that everybody with Teclast laptop can benefit from your
great job.

Thank you very much,
Simone

[Bug 1820760] [NEW] Teclast F6 Pro touchpad not recognized Ubuntu 18.04.2

2019-03-18 Thread Simone Pernice
Public bug reported:

I have just bought a new laptop from Teclast model F6 Pro. I have
installed Ubuntu LTS 18.04.2 (kernel 4.18.0-16-generic).

The Goodix touchpad of the laptop is not recognized by the kernel
version used by Ubuntu LTS 18.04.2.

That is my kernel error:

[3.733842] i2c_hid i2c-SYNA3602:00: i2c-SYNA3602:00 supply vdd not found,
using dummy regulator
[3.738296] i2c_hid i2c-SYNA3602:00: unexpected HID descriptor bcdVersion
(0x)

The problem is known, it is described here:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1526312

A patch is available here:
https://github.com/brotfessor/sipodev/blob/master/b/i2c-hid.c

It looks like that patch entered in the mainline kernel since 4.20 (or
4.19 I am not sure).

It would be very helpful if that patch is added to Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS
4.18.0-16-generic kernel to help the users of Teclast laptops like me.

On several Teclast laptops the touchpad is not supported on Unbuntu
18.04.2 (for sure F6 pro and F7).

[Bug 1726688] Re: totem media player in the Ubuntu dock right click menu does not work, rewind does not work, nor full screen works

2019-01-09 Thread Simone Piccardi
I made some debugging about this issue. It is due to the action names in
the .desktop file not corresponding to the DBus actions of totem, plus
the mute action isn't among the one implemented in totem.

I made a patch to fix the names and add the mute action to totem. This
is my first contribution to Ubuntu so please tell me if there's
something wrong.

If I am the only one in this situation, close the ticket. It might
still be more related to server than else. But with Outlook or
Thunderbird, the same server, never had this or any other issue.

Re: [Bug 1696618] Re: Certain emails are not loaded properly via IMAP+

2018-07-19 Thread Simone Lussardi
Hello,

I have to say it happens very rarely with newer versions, it's much more
stable on my computer. But on another slower computer, it tend to happen
more frequently. I have found a workaround, which is deleting all local
cache of evolution, forcing it to resync the messages.

I can give you a mail account on my server if it helps for testing it
out. Might be the server/client combination problem too.

Thank you,
Cheers,
Simone

[Bug 1776890] [NEW] Some loops between services while upgrading through apt

2018-06-14 Thread simone
Public bug reported:

While I try to upgrade my Ubuntu through "apt upgrade", it gives me many errors
involving loops between services (insserv gives me the output).
I've tried to purge grub-common and make upgrade again -> no result.

The error is raised after an upgrade of ~400MB today. Some packets have
been correctly installed. These others (listed in the attached file, at
the bottom of it), raises an error.

[Bug 1776890] Re: Some loops between services while upgrading through apt

2018-06-14 Thread simone
It seems I've resolved using theese commands:

for fil in $(cat file_list_of_errored_packets);do rm
/var/lib/dpkg/info/${fil}.postinst; done
apt install -f

Now I get no errors anymore ... I will be back just to confirm or
discard the resolution of this bug

Since the last update (2017-12-1) KDE System Tray won't display pidgin
and skype icon (once minimized). I've tried also with Amarok and it's
working.

No one on KDE Bug Tracking report a problem like this.

I've tried to relogin, to remove e readd system tray... no results.

[Bug 1724250] [NEW] gnome-terminal graphic artifact

2017-10-17 Thread Simone Bordet
Public bug reported:

Opening gnome-terminal in Ubuntu 17.10 shows the terminal window with a
graphic artifact on the right of the title bar, where the window buttons
to minimize, maximize and close are.

The window buttons are working so this is just a visual glitch and does
not otherwise affect gnome-terminal functionalities.

It does not matter whether the gnome-terminal window is maximized or
not, the graphic artifact is always present and does not disappear
hovering on it with the mouse.

Other applications do not appear to be affected, only gnome-terminal.

I'm using NVIDIA Corporation GM204M [GeForce GTX 970M] with the NVIDIA
binary driver 384.90.

See attached screenshot.

[Bug 1720438] Re: brightness control broken nvidia

2017-10-07 Thread Simone Bordet
I tried also: sudo su -c 'echo 10 >
/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness'.

Pressing the Fn keys brings up the OSD brightness control, which
reflects the value of the /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness
file (and viceversa), but the actual screen brightness does not change.

2017-10-07 Thread Simone Bordet
@brinstar, yes I did the sudo update-grub part, and tried
acpi_brightness=[native|vendor] which for me makes the Fn hot keys not
working (when you press them, no brightness icon appears).

Last update brought in NVidia drivers 384.90, but no joy, the problem is
still present.

Same problem here.

Ubuntu 17.10 beta 2
NVIDIA Corporation GM204M [GeForce GTX 970M]
Driver NVIDIA binary 375.82

Changing the brightness via Fn keys or via Settings/Power does not work.
Adding acpi_osi=Linux does nothing for me, the problem remains.

[Bug 1705391] Re: PPP crash after a while, start sending crazy packets

2017-07-26 Thread Simone Lussardi
Guys, seems I have found the conditions in which it happens. I have
successfully managed to *not* make it happen.

If you set the radius server IP property to match the public address,
this crash *will* happen, no matter what MTU or other encryption things
are set. PPP on Android doesn't have this problem.

Let's assume your PPTP server is at public IP 1.2.3.4, and such server
has an inside LAN IP of 192.168.79.1, you have two options:

A) You can leave the server IP property empty, in which case ppp will
work just fine !

B) You can set to a value, in order to do some manual routing on client
side later on by using that server IP.

But, if you set such property to 1.2.3.4 (matching exactly the public IP
on which the interface connects to) it will create this race condition
after a while and start sending crazy packets, crashing the ppp module.
Could be due to a looping-back broadcast.

Even though it might not be important for everyone, it shouldn't happen
that a property set on server side can crash a module on the client.
There should be a check.

Cheers,
Simone

[Bug 1705391] [NEW] PPP crash after a while, start sending crazy packets

2017-07-19 Thread Simone Lussardi
Public bug reported:

Hey guys, I have a very weird issue here. PPP works fine for 1-5
minutes, then it hangs with CPU usage very high, and I noticed it start
uploading insane (but fake) bytes to the tunnel. To do a simple test, I
started watching a YouTube video, and when the problem started to
happen:

ppp0 Link encap:Point-to-Point Protocol
  inet addr:172.16.99.9 P-t-P:xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx Mask:255.255.255.255
UP POINTOPOINT RUNNING NOARP MULTICAST MTU:1400 Metric:1
  RX packets:26586 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
  TX packets:5921622 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
  collisions:0 txqueuelen:3
  RX bytes:35077655 (35.0 MB) TX bytes:2885396935 (2.8 GB)

Then it crashed, and VPN turned itself off. I tried everything: MTU,
tunnel parameters etc. Please note I am a guy with 20+ years experience
in networking and I own an IT company. This is definitely a BUG of PPP.
It started happening since Ubuntu 16.04, before I never had this issue.

Description:Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS
Release:16.04
PPP:2.4.7-1+2ubuntu1

Cheers,
Simone

2017-07-01 Thread Simone Gaiarin
Public bug reported:

I'm trying to debug a crash of plasmashell and for generating a useful
crash report I need to install the debug symbols.

plasmashell is part of the package plasma-workspace, so I installed the

happen it complains that the debug symbols for /usr/bin/plasmashell are

3)
This bug is ***serious, as it scares people away from Evolution. I have setup
my main email account as IMAP+. Most of the email are downloaded correctly, but
some of them are not. From the message source, it seems that is a MULTIPART
message, and not all parts are loaded. When the problem happens, all headers
are not displayed when previewing the mail, but somehow the "From" in the list
is correct. To view the email, I have to use my phone (K9 Mail) or Thunderbird.
I am really wanting to switch to Evolution because I think is an overall
better, more performing and more integrated program, but this stupid bug is
causing me to think it over.

4)
I expect to see the message when I click it... not empty

If you need any further info, like the complete exact message source
code, I **can** provide it (nothing secret in there).

[Bug 1525554] Re: [HP ProBook 470 G3, Intel Skylake HDMI, Digital Out, HDMI] No sound at all

2015-12-14 Thread Simone
Pending resolution of the bug I found an accidental solution... I don't
know if it helps bug resolution.

Since I don't have any Output Card listed in Audo Settings, executing
alsa_setup.sh (from http://www.stchman.com/alsa_update.html) it create
permanently a new "Dummy Output", obviously not working.

Then running these commands audio from speakers is working until shutdown:
sudo modprobe snd-hda-intel
sudo alsa force-reload <--for 3 times but waiting 10-15 seconds between one
and the other

This is a very strange workaround, but it work for me!

[Bug 1487214] Re: Intel AC 7260 unstable WiFi: Microcode SW error detected

2015-08-27 Thread Simone Bordet
Joseph,

I moved to a different place where the WiFi router is right next to my
computer, and the instabilities are gone.
It seems the bug only happens when the WiFi connection is weak or unstable
(e.g. behind many walls or on different floors).
In the actual conditions I experienced this bug, I had a repeater sucking the
connection from the nearby house of a relative (say 50m away).

I'll try to test with the upstream kernel, but I have to reproduce the
weak WiFi conditions first.

Thanks !

[Bug 1462358] [NEW] system freezes when closing dropbox folder window

2015-06-05 Thread simone
Public bug reported:

I have nautilus-dropbox installed, when I close the dropbox folder window (left
click on the cross in the upper left corner) the computer freezes (mouse icon
moves correctly, but the rest of the screen is still) and the window remains
open. This situation goes back to normal pressing the power button for a short
time: a window is prompted asking whether I want to shut-down or restart and
dropbox window closes, at this point it is possible to resume. Pressing any
other button doesn't change anything, except I can access other tty
(CTRL-ALT-Fx).
I open dropbox folder by clicking "open dropbox folder" in the dropbox icon
(upper right corner of the screen).

I've experienced this bug ever since upgrading to Ubuntu 15.04, never
experienced it before. After that time, I noticed this second bug too
(affecting dropbox nautilus):
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus-dropbox/+bug/1453655

The bug is fully reproducible and I can give further information if
required.

** Affects: nautilus-dropbox (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

Don't know if it can be useful, but often after the crash the bash shell
from which I've launched Eclipse doesn't respond to keyboard commands.

More or less, it's the same .desktop file that I've used (see my comment
above). However, as said, it doesn't work at all.

It doesn't work anyway.
I've used this .desktop file

[Desktop Entry]
Version=4.4.2
Name=Eclipse-jee
GenericName=IDE
Comment=Programming IDE
MimeType=
Exec=env LIBOVERLAY_SCROLLBAR=0 SWT_GTK3=0 /opt/eclipse_all/eclipse-jee/eclipse

Type=Application
Terminal=false

Eclipsee starts well, but crashes every time I try to move the pointer
on Project->Build Working Set. It also crashes other times, but I
haven't identified a pattern yet.

Do you mean creating a .desktop file? If so, where I have to put the
commands in the exec, right? Can you provide a template of a .desktop
file? I've always launched Eclipse from terminal.

[Bug 1415287] Re: Cannot access menus using the keyboard in Java swing applications with jayatana

2015-04-28 Thread Simone Bordet
Vanilla Ubuntu 15.04 for me, and I have the same issue, mnemonics for
Swing apps do not work (e.g. JConsole, JVisualVM, IntelliJ, etc.), while
they work for SWT apps (e.g. Eclipse RCP apps).

The mnemonics (the underscore below the letter to press to make the menu
popup to appear) are not displayed in the menubar, and trying to press
the key combination by memory (e.g. Alt+F to open the File menu) does
not work either, as was originally reported.

Removing jayatana and rebooting solves the issue of the mnemonics, but
of course you lose the integration.

Also, it is very, *very* annoying that using jayatana prints out in the
console "Picked up JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONS:
-javaagent:/usr/share/java/jayatanaag.jar".

[Bug 1362848] Re: ubuntu 14.04 after install nvidia binary driver 331.89 black screen and freeze

2015-01-31 Thread Simone Pernice
I fixed the problem with my nvidia graphic card using the post #15.

Thank you very much kcpr (mkasprzyk5) without your help I would not be
albe to fix it.

Here how I fixed in details:

Log out and go to the console:

CTRL-ALT-F1

if (like me) you tried to install latest nvidia driver (nvidia-340 ...),
you need to revert back with following commands:

sudo apt-get install ppa-purge
sudo ppa-purge xorg-edgers
sudo apt-get purge nvidia*

Then copy all xorg config files in a temporary dir:

cd
mkdir temp
sudo mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf* ./temp/

Then clean, update, upgrade and reboot the system:

sudo apt-get autoremove
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo reboot

Go to the console:

CTRL-ALT-F1

Install nvidia 331:

sudo apt-get install nvidia-331 nvidia-prime

Copy the old xorg.conf made by nvidia back in its directory:

sudo cp temp/xorg.conf.nvidia-xconfig-original /etc/X11/xorg.conf

And edit it (I used vi, you may prefer nano):

sudo vi /etc/X11/xorg.conf

To be as the following:

Section "ServerLayout"
Identifier "layout"
Screen 0 "nvidia"
Inactive "intel"
EndSection

Section "Device"
Identifier "intel"
Driver "intel"
BusID "PCI:0@0:2:0"
Option "AccelMethod" "SNA"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
Identifier "intel"
Device "intel"
EndSection

Section "Device"
Identifier "nvidia"
Driver "nvidia"
BusID "PCI:1@0:0:0"
Option "ConstrainCursor" "off"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
Identifier "nvidia"
Device "nvidia"
Option "AllowEmptyInitialConfiguration" "on"
Option "IgnoreDisplayDevices" "CRT"
EndSection

Eventually reboot the system:

sudo reboot

Now I have nvidia set as graphic card and the hardware acceleration
works fine.

[Bug 1362848] Re: ubuntu 14.04 after install nvidia binary driver 331.89 black screen and freeze

2015-01-30 Thread Simone Pernice
I have a laptop Asus K53s with nVidia GeForce GT 540M. I (freshly)
installed Ubuntu 14.04 64bit and set up nvidia-331 proprietary driver
for the graphic card. I set prime option to run nVidia acceleration and
it used to work fine.

On 25th Janaury 2015, there was an Ubuntu software update (from apt log
I saw it was updated nvidia-settings, and other stuff) after which I see
a black screen instead of the login screen.

I tried to switch to intel graphic card (sudo prime-switch intel) but it
gives erros, it is not able to switch to intel.

I tried to purge nvidia* and then install nvidia-340, but it still shows
black screen instead of login.

The only way to use my laptop is to install:

apt-get install nvidia-current-updates

which is the driver nvidia-304. But it uses the intel graphics card. It
is not possible switch to nVidia neither with

sudo prime-switch nvidia

nor with

nvidia-setting graphic utility.

I need to use my nVidia card for graphic acceleration (OpenGL). At the
moment the laptop is too slow for my activity (CAD).
