[Bug 1922839] Re: Opening new tab in gnome-terminal launched from nautilus loses most environment variables

2021-07-26 Thread Stepan Roucka
A quick workaround is to install the gnome-terminal version >= 3.38.2.
E.g. 3.38.3 from debian repos here:
https://packages.debian.org/bullseye/gnome-terminal

[Bug 1501260] Re: drm:intel_pipe_config_compare [i915]] *ERROR* mismatch in dpll_hw_state.wrpll (expected 0xb0210614, found 0x00000000

2016-01-20 Thread Stepan Roucka
I am also affected by this bug. My screen sometimes "randomly" freezes
(when making a screenshot for example...) and this:

[drm:intel_pipe_config_compare [i915]] *ERROR* mismatch in
dpll_hw_state.wrpll (expected 0xb035061f, found 0x)

is written in console.

It always happens when I run glxgears. The screen is frozen with
exception of the mouse cursor - it moves and changes shape when I hover
a hyperlink or text. The system is responding, I is just not shown on
the screen (I hope I am explaining this clearly). I can switch to
console with ctrl+alt+f1, then killall glxgears, then alt+f7 everything
is OK again. The actions that I did when the screen was frozen (like
switching window, clicking a link...) are now visible.

[Bug 1372609] Re: Touchpad detected as mouse on Asus ux303ln laptop

2015-03-24 Thread Stepan Roucka
I can confirm that this issue on Ubuntu 15.04
ASUS ZENBOOK UX303LA-R4390H
is fixed by installing 4.0rc5 kernel from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.0-rc5-vivid/

But is there some option for fixing this bug while keeping the security
updates working? Can the patches be merged to the default ubuntu kernel
on 15.04?

[Bug 1241284] Re: iBus has problem recognizing the keyboard shortcut

2014-01-03 Thread Stepan Roucka
I am having the same problem in the keyboard layout switching and I can observe
also several other problematic keyboard shortcuts that are probably related to
this bug. For example the interpretation of Alt and Shift keys depends on the
key order. When I press left Alt and then right Alt, it is interpreted as
Alt+Alt R on English (US)
Alt+Level3 Shift on Czech (qwerty)
The right Alt and then left Alt is interpreted as
Alt+Alt L on English (US)
Alt L on Czech (qwerty)

Similarly with my favorite keyboard switching combination left Alt +
left Shift, which is interpreted as Alt+Shift L or Shift+Alt L. But
these shortcuts don't work at all for keyboard layout switching.

I experienced this bug in Ubuntu 12.10.
Commenting out fd0 in fstab and running

solved the problem

[Bug 1071830] [NEW] Dash is flickering when a video playback window is underneath it

2012-10-26 Thread Stepan Roucka
Public bug reported:

This problem appeared after upgrading to Ubuntu 12.10.
Steps to reproduce:
 - Open a video in Totem or in VLC
 - Activate the dash
The part of the dash which overlaps the video is flickering (repeatedly
becoming fully transparent for a fraction of a second). It doesn't matter
whether the video is playing or paused. The problem remains even when the video
window is hidden behind other windows.

[Bug 999191] Re: X crashes with gnome-session: Fatal IO error 11

2012-05-24 Thread Stepan Roucka
I am now running with the nouveau drivers for almost three days without
a crash - problem seems to be solved by removing nvidia drivers.

[Bug 999191] Re: X crashes with gnome-session: Fatal IO error 11

2012-05-21 Thread Stepan Roucka
The problem happened again a while ago... I found a post in a forum
http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=11917028&postcount=2
where the user reports similar problems (crashes and black screen instead of
console) caused by the nvidia driver. So I removed the nvidia drivers. So far
the only difference is, that switching to text console from X is instant --- it
took several seconds before to switch back and forth. I will report again
whether the crashes still occur.

[Bug 999191] Re: X crashes with gnome-session: Fatal IO error 11

2012-05-21 Thread Stepan Roucka
OK, I am still trying to figure out what triggers this bug. Now it
happened when I was working with gnome-terminal and evince. I was not
able to get a X backtrace according to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing:

I have installed the debugging versions of xserver-xorg-core-dbg, libgl1
-mesa-dri-dbg and xserver-xorg-video-nouveau-dbg and rebooted.

I tried
$ sudo service apport start force_start=1
start: Job is already running: apport
But apport doesn't report anything after logging back.

I don't have another machine available to try the remote debugging.
However, I tried to attach gdb to Xorg from text console, which just
froze the system after entering "cont" in gdb.

I didnt find any core dump in /etc/X11/core. The /var/crash doesnt
contain relevant information either.

There is also another problem related to this bug: After the first
crash, the alt+ctrl+f1 stops working. The graphics output just switches
off (monitor reports "no signal") instead of switching to text console.
I need to reboot to make it work again. This makes the debugging a bit
more difficult.

[Bug 907383] Re: Spontaneously eject from the session

2012-05-14 Thread Stepan Roucka
I ran the ubuntu-bug xorg and the output is
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/999191

It started happening after upgrading to ubuntu 12.04. Several times a
day, the gnome session crashes and drops me to GDM. This happens with
Unity and gnome shell. It doesn't happen with unity-2d.

Part of the syslog output:

[Bug 863192] Re: Compiz using large amounts of CPU when running Chrome

2012-04-10 Thread Stepan Roucka
On my machine, this problem seems to be related to chromium app tabs - when the
app tab is blinking with notification, the cpu usage by compiz goes to ~ 50 %.
Otherwise it is < 10 %.

[Bug 900459] [NEW] Compiz scale is not activated during drag and drop

2011-12-05 Thread Stepan Roucka
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 11.10 after upgrade from 11.04
using unity 4.24.0-0ubuntu2b1

Steps to reproduce:

 - open two applications
 - drag anything from the active application
 - hover over the launcher icon of the application in background
 - nothing happens

This should bring the background application to front, if it has only one
window.
It should use the scale plugin, if the background app has multiple windows.

I believe this used to work in Unity in Ubuntu 11.04

[Bug 774906] [NEW] Temperature not displayed in panel

2011-05-01 Thread Stepan Roucka
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: indicator-weather

I have set up the preferences so that temperature is shown near the
indicator. After wake up from suspend, the temperature is not being
refreshed anymore, so I have to click "refresh" in the menu. After this,
the temperature disappears from the panel (although the refreshing works
- the temperature in the menu is correct).

I tried to uncheck/check the preferences for displaying the temperature,
but it didn't help. Only way to restore the display of temperature is
restarting the indicator (The quit button didn't work after suspend
either, so i had to use kill).

[Bug 766339] [NEW] switching to windows aligned to the side of a different workspace doesn't work

2011-04-19 Thread Stepan Roucka
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

Steps to reproduce:
Use 4 virtual workspaces in 2x2 configuration.
Switch to the the top right workspace, open any application in unmaximized
window and move it to snap to the right workspace border.
Switch to the top left workspace.
Try to switch to the previously opened application.

A similar Bug #738908 has been reported, but this is in my opinion
different. In this case, the windows don't overlap multiple workspaces.

The same behavior can be observed when you are on the right side
workspace and the window is on the left side of the left workspace.

I did the two steps mentioned there and it really made a difference for me:

this is probably duplicate

[Bug 311904] [NEW] cannot enter text in scribus

2008-12-28 Thread Stepan Roucka
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: scribus

I have ubuntu interpid 64 bit, fresh installation (no upgrade), english language
steps to reproduce:
create new document in scribus,
add text box,
edit text in the box -> cannot type letters, only numbers. Sometimes I can
write 1 letter and
that's all.

However I can generate sample text and when editing the sample text, I can enter
letters.

Maybe a related issue is that the sample text appears as squares on canvas and
after changing
the font twice it appears properly rendered.

This problem appears in scribus 1.3.3, scribus-ng 1.3.4, and even in
scribus 1.3.5 compiled from svn.
