[Bug 58511] Re: [edgy Knot-2 CD] firefox's fonts are uglified (not antialiased)

2006-09-05 Thread Suzan
In my opinion, it's a edgy bug!

As I tested Knot2 last week I was very shocked about the fonts in
firefox!! New user will think "Linux is so ugly" :-(

In dapper fonts look good, in edgy they are ugly. This is a bad step
backwards...

It's always frustrating if something worked in a previous Ubuntu version

[Bug 65291] [edgy] When onBoard Sound is disabled in BIOS, it's still available in edgy

2006-10-11 Thread Suzan
Public bug reported:

My system: actual edgy with GNOME

I have two soundcards in my computer: onBoard sound and a PCI SB
soundcard.

I've got the onBoard Sound disabled in the BIOS.

After the disabling of the onBoard Sound via BIOS, this souncard
shouldn't be available in the Ubuntu-system, should it? But it's still
there and working in Ubuntu. In Dapper a disabled onBoard sound wasn't
available. But edgy still have this onBoard sound active.

Is it a bug or a feature? I think, it's a bug.

[Bug 65528] [edgy] Wrong icons - icons still in "progress" status, after a progress is done

2006-10-11 Thread Suzan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Often icons on the desktop or any nautilus window are displayed in wrong
status.

For example you made a screenshot of your desktop. There's a icon for
the png-file. If the progress remains the icon for the file is shown
with a clock-symbol. This icon should change in the normal thumbnail-
icon if the progress is done.

But the icon stays in the same status. Even if I reload the nautilus
window.

BUT - it's not every time. Sometimes it changes within the actual gnome-
session, sometimes not. Maybe it depends on the file-size or file-type
or the program which prepared the file?

[Bug 66589] [edgy] Restart takes much too long

2006-10-17 Thread Suzan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.17-10-generic

It happens even on a fresh edgy install:

the restart takes much too long, about 5 minutes.

All goes well until "Will now restart". When the screen goes black and
nothing happens. It takes about 5 minutes and the computer restarts.
First I thought the system hangs completely, but it only takes very
long. This happens every restart.

The normal start-up and shut-down went well.

[Bug 84627] [feisty] regression: not able to transfer songs on an ipod anymore

2007-02-11 Thread Suzan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hal

I am using an actual Feisty. And I have an 2GB iPod nano (1st gen).

With Edgy I plugged in the iPod and it was mounted automatically at
/media/ipod. After that I could transfer songs to the iPod, using
Rhythmbox (or Listen oder whatever...) without any problems.

Since Feisty the iPod mounted at /media/NAME OF THE IPOD, in my case
this is /media/SUZANS IPOD.

With this all of the media-programs got problems. With Ryhthmbox I could
see the iPod, but I am not able to transfer songs to it. Listen don't
even show me the iPod anymore. Nore Exaile.

I think it's because these programs expect it in /media/ipod.

[Bug 154048] Re: [gutsy] update from feisty to gutsy installs additionally false -i386 kernel

2007-10-23 Thread Suzan
Hello Michael,

thanks for replying to my bug.

I added the four logfiles from /var/log/dist-upgrade to this entry.

In the apt.log I found this interesting lines:

Installing linux-restricted-modules-2.6.22-14-386 as dep of nvidia-glx-new
Installing linux-image-2.6.22-14-386 as dep of
linux-restricted-modules-2.6.22-14-386
Installing linux-restricted-modules-common as dep of

Seems geoffrey is right and it has to do with the nvidia-package. But I
have to say, that on Feisty I have FIRST the -generic Kernel installed
(it was a normal new Feisty installation) and then I installed the
nvidia-driver.

[Bug 154048] [gutsy] update from feisty to gutsy installs additionally false -i386 kernel

2007-10-18 Thread Suzan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image

I've updated my Feisty machine to Gutsy via update-manager. With Feisty
I used only the generic-kernel, which is the right one for my machine.

After the update to Gutsy, there was additionaly the -i386-kernel installed.
I've got no metapackages for the 386-kernel installed!
The update installed the right new -generic-kernel, too. But in the boot-list
the wrong 386-kernel is on first place and was booted as default.

I think this bug is related to bug #144245, which i reported, too. But
that happens not on a regular Gutsy update on a different machine.

Facts to this machine:
A nearly "virgin" Feisty, desktop-pc, nvidia-card, amd processor updated via
update-manager to Gutsy. Update went flawlessly except the wrong kernel.

[Bug 128368] Re: Desktop Effects cannot find "gtk-window-decorator"

2007-08-19 Thread Suzan
I had the same behavior!

Solution: the package "compiz-gnome" was missing! Install that package,
an everything will be allright.

I am not sure, why it wasn't installed, if I had deleted it accidentally
or if it was missing from the beginning.

2007-08-19 Thread Suzan
Same here with totem with enabled desktop-effects. But it didn't crash
with desktop-effects disabled.

I've got an nvidia GeForce Go 7300 and I use the nvidia-glx-new driver
under an actual Gusty.

Totem says the following:

Gdk-ERROR **: The program 'totem' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.

Same bug for me!

[Bug 129511] Re: software mixing doesn't work

2007-09-13 Thread Suzan
Yes, seems software mixing don't work under Gutsy.

I noticed that, than I open Second Life. Can't get no sound then,

Got this error message:

2007-07-21 Thread Suzan
Don't we are talking here about the ipw3945 driver for intel wireless-
cards?

1. it cant't be a solution to install *-386 restricted-modules. We are
working the the *-generic kernel, aren't we? In Feisty different
installed kernels (and fitting kernel-headers) doesn't disrupt NM at
all. Or I am wrong?

2. it is not a problem of two different installed kernels, because the
ip3945 driver doesn't even work with the desktop-cd in live-mode! In
live-mode you can be very sure, that only one kernel is "installed".

[Bug 144164] Re: Gutsy Updates broke sound

2007-09-23 Thread Suzan
Same for me on a Dell Inspiron Laptop after updated to kernel
2.6.22-12. Sound control doesn't work, same error message.

But I discovered it is not a gstreamer-bug!It is a bug of a wrong
kernel, that was installed accidentaly after last update.

For me, I need the generic-kernel. After the last update, there were two
kernels installed:

2.6.22-12-generic (the right one I need)
2.6.22-12-386 (which is the false one)

In the kernel list the -386 was the standard kernel, so Ubuntu started
with the -386 kernel. And with that kernel sound isn't working, neither
wlan!

If you start with the right kernel, that is 2.6.22-12-generic,
everything is OK!

So the problem isn't gstreamer, it is the false -386 kernel! I will file
a bug report for this.

[Bug 144245] [gutsy] update to kernel 2.6.22 installs -386 kernel (-generic is needed)

2007-09-23 Thread Suzan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.22-12-generic

I use Gutsy on a Dell Inspiron with 2 processors and I use the standard
-generic kernel.

After the latest update to kernel 2.6.22-12, Ubuntu installed beside the
right -generic kernel the -386 kernel, too.

So the kernel 2.6.22-12-386 was automatically choosed after restart.
With that kernel sound doesn't work, wlan doesn't work. Doesn't wonder
with the false kernel.

After rebooted with kernel 2.6.22-12-generic, which was also installed,
everthing is OK.

I don't see, why the -386 kernel was installed, I got not meta-packages
for this kernel installed!

I got these kernel related metapackages installed:

linux-image-generic
linux-restricted-modules-common
linux-restricted-modules-generic

I don't have packages linux-image-386 installed, nor linux-restricted-
modules-386.

[Bug 80778] Re: compiz does not show window boards or the cube

2007-03-04 Thread Suzan
I am using the nvidia-glx driver from the feisty repos.

Compiz seems to working very, very bad.

decorator-plugin was in the list, but window borders work only
partially. Sometimes they are all gone, sometimes I just see a part of
them (left and right).

Sometimes I can't see windows. They are in the panel, but I am not able
to open it.

The cube doesn't work with the default settings. You have to change two
gconf-settings:

/apps/compiz/general/screen0/options/hsize:4
/apps/compiz/general/screen0/options/number_of_desktops: 1

I believe in the default settings, it's vice versa.

Compiz seems to work very sluggish at the moment, at least for nvidia-
users. If compiz works that bad for a lot of users, I think it's better
not to include it. I only hear from Intel-users, that compiz works
flawlessly.

BTW: Beryl from the beryl feisty-repos works absolutely great and
flawlessly.

/apps/compiz/general/screen0/options/hsize: 4

Then you have a cube.

But for me as a nvidia-user, compiz of feisty herd 5 works absolutely bad.

[Bug 96430] Re: MASTER: Request for new-legacy nvidia drivers (9631)

2007-03-27 Thread Suzan
Go back to 9631 is a bad idea, because the new nVidia cards (8000) only
work with the new 9755 driver. So updating was the right decision.

The problem is, that now 3 trees of nvidia-drivers are available:

97xx - for newer cards (at the moment in nvidia-glx)
96xx - for cards in the "middleage" (no driver available in ubuntu)
71xx - for "historic" cards (at the moment in nvidia-legacy-glx). This driver
provides 3d but no support for compiz/beryl.

So the developers have to maintain 3 versions of nvidia-drivers. More
work to do. Nevertheless I hope, that all 3 versions will be provided
with Ubuntu.

[Bug 42600] Re: Microphone does not work on Dell Inspiron 630m

2007-06-14 Thread Suzan
I am still testing and I think, I've catched the bad boy - it's
GStreamer!

I thought, my microphone doesn't work at all, but that's wrong. The
microphone works absolutely correct with everything but GStreamer! That
means, any GStreamer related software doesn't work. That's for instance,
gnome-audio-recorder, ekiga or jokosher. In neither of these programs
the microphone work.

BUT it works with software, that doesn't require GStreamer. The
microphone works perfectly with Audacity, Skype and even Ardour! It
works also if I record something with mancoder in the terminal.

So my guess it, that the HDA Intel Chip and Gstreamer have some problems
with each other.

The only gnome-program, that gives me an error is jokosher. It says:

"GStreamer encountered a general stream error.

gstbasesrc.c(1642): gst_base_src_loop ():
/timeline/playbackbin/Click_Track_Bin/Click_Track_AudioSource:
streaming task paused, reason not-linked (-1)"

I am not sure, if this is an error which depends only Jokosher or
GStreamer at all.

[Bug 268388] Re: Cannot use wireless channels 12 and 13

Same for me (here in germany, there this channels area also legal) since

this is also an issue with 4965 and others.

When setting the channel to 12 or 13, the wireless network don't work,

OK as before.

For users who live in a country in which channels 12 and 13 are allowed

[Bug 268388] Re: Cannot use wireless channels 12 and 13

2008-10-11 Thread Suzan
Same for me (here in germany, there this channels area also legal) since
I've upgraded to Intrepid Beta yesterday. I use an Intel 3945, I know
this is also an issue with 4965 and others.

When setting the channel to 12 or 13, the wireless network don't work,
is not even recognized. Setting channel to 11 or lower, everything works
OK as before.

For users who live in a country in which channels 12 and 13 are allowed
and legal, this is a serious bug, since you cannot connect to every
network anymore. Especially because it was no problem before.

[Bug 154048] Re: [gutsy] update from feisty to gutsy installs additionally false -i386 kernel

2007-10-23 Thread Suzan
Hello Michael,

thanks for replying to my bug.

I added the four logfiles from /var/log/dist-upgrade to this entry.

In the apt.log I found this interesting lines:

Installing linux-restricted-modules-2.6.22-14-386 as dep of nvidia-glx-new
Installing linux-image-2.6.22-14-386 as dep of
linux-restricted-modules-2.6.22-14-386
Installing linux-restricted-modules-common as dep of
linux-restricted-modules-2.6.22-14-38

Seems geoffrey is right and it has to do with the nvidia-package. But I
have to say, that on Feisty I have FIRST the -generic Kernel installed
(it was a normal new Feisty installation) and then I installed the
nvidia-driver.

[Bug 66589] [edgy] Restart takes much too long

Public bug reported:

It happens even on a fresh edgy install:

the restart takes much too long, about 5 minutes.

All goes well until "Will now restart". When the screen goes black and
nothing happens. It takes about 5 minutes and the computer restarts.
First I thought the system hangs completely, but it only takes very
long. This happens every restart.

The normal start-up and shut-down went well.

[Bug 65528] [edgy] Wrong icons - icons still in "progress" status, after a progress is done

2006-10-11 Thread Suzan
Public bug reported:

Often icons on the desktop or any nautilus window are displayed in wrong
status.

For example you made a screenshot of your desktop. There's a icon for
the png-file. If the progress remains the icon for the file is shown
with a clock-symbol. This icon should change in the normal thumbnail-
icon if the progress is done.

But the icon stays in the same status. Even if I reload the nautilus
