[Bug 228375] Re: ACPI Power Switching Fails Toshiba L30

2008-06-22 Thread taras
Im new to linux and Ubuntu.
I downloaded patch. My system already upgraded to -19 kernel.
But I have no idea how to apply patch.
When I try to do "patch -i cpuidle_init_issues_mod.patch -p1" I have to type
the name of the file to be patched.
I have no idea which file/files I have to patch.
Do I have to place patch file to /usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.24-19-generic and
then "cd" to this directory?
Will really appreciate step by step instruction.

[Bug 1228176] [NEW] Can not set short cut keys to switch layouts

2013-09-20 Thread Taras
Public bug reported:

When I try to set shortcut to switch layouts (alt+shift) I can not do
so. I can do varios versions of Alt and a-z or number, but alt-shift
ctrl-shift wich are common do not work, says disabled.

The mouse cliking switches layouts, but keyboard shortcuts do not.

I set the DConf key to alt-shif but i has no effect.

A similar bug is reported here https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-

[Bug 458658] Re: Make the mime type icons in the icon theme distictive and multicolored

2009-10-23 Thread Taras
here is the link to allready developed icontheme for ooo products

http://ui.openoffice.org/VisualDesign/OOo_galaxy_mimetype.html
http://ui.openoffice.org/VisualDesign/OOo30MimeType.html

I don't know about the distribution rights, but if possible I would like
to see this over current implementations.

In a bit I will post the images of the proposed file type icons.

[Bug 453444] [NEW] /var/log fills all available space during upgrade and causes system failure

2009-10-16 Thread Taras
Public bug reported:

Forum thread is here

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1284691&page=1

System Karmic Beta i386

Machine Dell Inspiron 1000 Laptop
Celeron 2.4 running 256MB RAM 40 GB HDD

Partitioning:
SDA1 100 MB with /boot
SDA2 764 MB swap
SDA3 6.4 GB with /
SDA4 29.5 GB /home

Problem:

After the initial install from alternate cd, and system update to -14
kernel version, the computer could not boot in to gnome or xterm.

“The configuration defaults for GNOME Power Manager have not been
installed correctly. Please contact your computer administrator."

further investigation showed that the disk is full and in particular the
/var/log directory occupied all available space for root. These
particular files are a problem:

sys.log is 1.7 GB

kern.log is 1.6 GB

messages are 700 mb

copies are available if needed.

Dmesg is attached.

2009-10-16 Thread Taras
I wanted to test Karmic from the flash drive when I had extra time

After I installed it, grub 2 overwritten my grub 1, so I could not boot
without the flash drive attached.

Read up some stuff on-line (can't fully retrace it, sorry)

Found a route to install grub 1 on to the usb. Booted in to Karmic, went
to synaptic and tried installing grub.

After that got the error.

Subsequently needed to boot, so went through grub restore on Jaunty.
Succeed. Then edited menu.lst with entries for karmic. No problems since
than.

Attaching the log as requested.

2009-10-23 Thread Taras
jpg example. Now this is an idea, your design team may have something
else in mind, but as long as you guys use a distinct color or style for
the mime-types instead of all files look the same approach, it would be
great!

[Bug 458658] Re: Make the mime type icons in the icon theme distictive and multicolored

2009-10-25 Thread Taras
If this is the future, openoffice team is going backwards. Currently
their icon theme
(http://ui.openoffice.org/VisualDesign/OOo30MimeType.html) has quite a
distinct color range. If they implement the proposal shown here
(http://blogs.sun.com/GullFOSS/entry/unified_odf_icons) everything will
look blue and gray, the same, and in small icon sizes you will not be
able to distinguish anything, other than paying attention to filename.
They will adopt exactly the same thing with have in Karmic at the
moment, which is more difficult to identify quickly.

[Bug 1644007] [NEW] Intel HD Graphics 5500 Drivers Cap Resolution at 1366x768 and don't support video out for external displays

2016-11-22 Thread taras
Public bug reported:

Dell latitude e7450, Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.

Swapped disk from latitude e7450 with faulty HDMI port as a quick fix

port working.

[Bug 1644007] Re: Intel HD Graphics 5500 Drivers Cap Resolution at 1366x768 and don't support video out for external displays

2016-11-23 Thread taras
Thanks for the catch Daniel; updated the description. It was the new
laptop with the Intel HD Graphics 5500 integrated card that resolution
was capped and video out wasn't working.

The old laptop has a Haswell-ULT Integrated Graphics Controller for which the
drivers work just fine. Amusingly, after putting the SSD back into the old one;
the HDMI port started working again. Maybe the slight jiggling from
reassembling the case fixed a connection to the port? I had tried multiple
cables, monitors and adapters previously, so the port was definitely dead prior.

Anyway, now that I'm back in the old laptop, I won't be able to test/reproduce
this.

** Description changed:

[Bug 704788] [NEW] No sound in trimmed clip for the first 10-13 seconds

2011-01-19 Thread Taras
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pitivi

When I try to edit a video taken with Cheese, any attempts to trim the
beginning of the clip results in loss of sound track for the first 10-13
seconds of the remaining video.

Sound profile is available on the screen, but either during playback or
rendering, the sound is not reproduced. After this period, everything
works fine.

Suggestions on how to re-mediate the problem. The problem is consistent
with 3 different clips taken. Format is ogv.

Thanks.

[Bug 377645] [NEW] Aspire 4530 ACPI: Invalid PBLK length [0] fails to resume from suspend after ACPI update

2009-05-17 Thread Taras
Public bug reported:

During boot the following message is displayed:

[1.759033] ACPI: Invalid PBLK length [0]

Then the login screen appear dimmed. Following the login the normal
screen backlighting is resumed.

Here is the bug:

If the laptop is put in suspend state (function keys or via menu) it
fails to resume from suspend state. The behavior was not observed (error
message was still there) during the testing from live cd.

At one point in trying to resume the computer, i got a message from the
sata controller about the wrong block assess number.

Please advise what to patch or modify to make the suspend work again.

Machine is Acer Aspire AS4530-6823

[Bug 377773] [NEW] Compaq F750US (F761US) will not boot under battery power

2009-05-17 Thread Taras
Public bug reported:

Observed on Compaq F750US and F761US both with AMD TK-57 CPU.

The system will not boot on its own if the power is supplied by the
battery. (no problem with AC adapter)

To boot need to press either power button, or "enter" or "space"
multiple times. (similar bug experienced with intrepid but under
intrepid the system would not boot even with ac power adapter).

Please advise what to patch to make it boot on its own.

Thanks

It was a test set for another grub issue. Since that bug all my grub

like. Let me know.

in any way relevant:

too slow to run Linux) while VBox got sacrificed.

[Bug 453444] Re: /var/log fills up with "all normal" messages @ about 575/sec fill up the available space

2009-11-04 Thread Taras
As a temporary fix I can suggest setting up a separate partition for
/var/log. Say about 300 megs to a gig depending on the hdd size. Now
this will probably require non-primary partitions to be setup, but at
least it will keep the logs at bay until the patch is out.

The other solution is more involved, solving the overheating issues, in
my case resulted in a disassembly of the laptop, removal of 3 mm thick
layer of dust from the heat sink and replacement of factory heat pads
with thermal grease. Now running 30 Degrees C cooler (down to 54C from
85C). No more monster logs.

Unfortunately in the process I killed the keyboard. Anyone has one for
Dell Inspiron 1000 lying around?

[Bug 802021] Re: itext-rups.jar not working

2021-05-12 Thread Taras
Update for 20.04. The packages are horribly outdated and just wastes cpu
without any results and should be removed or updated to the latest
build.

If you want to use it. Get the latest files from
https://github.com/itext/i7j-rups.
Install maven and build according to the provided instructions (readme).

Launch with [user@pc:~S java -jar /path_to_built_jar_file.jar]

Works just fine.

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2020-05-12 Thread Taras
Kim,

First try this:

Install gnome-tweak-tool (should pull in gnome-tweaks)

Than in the gui:

Tweak tool >> Typing >> Modifiers of input sources switch >> Alt shift.

First time, I was able to bypass this bug by installing Unity desktop
(planned on it anyway), and configuring the shortcut there. The settings
are transferred to gnome shell settings.

how-to install unity has been detailed here:
https://linuxconfig.org/ubuntu-20-04-unity-desktop

In case you want to keep it:
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/testing-unity-session-in-focal-fossa-20-04/13692

And how to remove it:
https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/remove-unity-desktop-ubuntu/

But my guess is that in gnome shell it was disabled intentionally as it breaks
other shortcuts:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1075604/disabling-altshift-to-switch-keyboard-layouts-in-ubuntu-18-04
https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/68/gnome-3-22-disable-altshift-keyboard-layout-switching

There are also some suggestions for command line config, but I did not try this:
https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/316998/how-to-change-keyboard-layout-in-gnome-3-from-command-line

[Bug 1574079] Re: USB audio device is not recognized after startup in 16.04

2016-05-29 Thread Taras
Hi Richard, I'm glad you have paid attention to this problem.
A few weeks ago I've upgraded my Ubuntu version from 14.04 to 16.04 and faced
with this issue. Now every time before connecting my USB sound-card I have to
kill the 'fwupd' process.
Here is output from the 'dfu-tool list' command:

 - When 'fwupd' is running:
Found 1397:0501 [v1.0]:
Status: cannot get device state: transfer failed

 - After killing 'fwupd' and replugging sound-card:
Found 1397:0501 [v1.0]:
 Mode: runtime
 Status:OK
 State: appIDLE
 ID:0
  Cipher: none
  Region 0x00: Zone:0, Sec#:0, Addr:0x, Size:0x, Caps:0x3

The 'fwupd' process itself using 1.2 - 1.8 % of CPU (model name: Intel(R)
Core(TM) i3 CPU M370 @2.40GHz).
Also please check the attachments: lsusb (with connected working/not-working
sound-card) and fwupd verbose output (started with working
sound-card/connecting sound-card when 'fwupd' running) diffs. Hope this will
help.

[Bug 1574079] Re: USB audio device is not recognized after startup in 16.04

2016-05-30 Thread Taras
I just played a little with 'gdb'. Please see the attachment. Hope you will
find the information useful.
Just noticed the process has seven threads. Is it ok? Or maybe it stuck or
something?
BTW, I had to interrupt the process, since it didn't crash when I connected the
sound-card.

[Bug 1397067] Re: ID 138a:003f Validity Sensors, Inc. on HP EliteBook 840G1

2015-05-19 Thread Taras Vykhovanskyi
Found this:
https://balintbanyasz.wordpress.com/2015/03/27/get-validity-vfs-495-fingerprint-reader-working-in-ubuntu-14-04/

but I'm not able to do the same things

when I run:

vykh@vykh-mint ~ $ sudo /etc/init.d/vcsFPServiceDaemon start

I get this:

/etc/init.d/vcsFPServiceDaemon: 36: /etc/init.d/vcsFPServiceDaemon: rc_reset:
not found
Starting vcsFPService Daemonnohup: ignoring input and redirecting stderr to
stdout
nohup: failed to run command ‘/sbin/startproc’: No such file or directory
/etc/init.d/vcsFPServiceDaemon: 49: /etc/init.d/vcsFPServiceDaemon: rc_status:
not found
/etc/init.d/vcsFPServiceDaemon: 113: /etc/init.d/vcsFPServiceDaemon: rc_exit:
not found

and i googled this:
: It’s specific to whatever distribution you’re running. Debian and Ubuntu have
/lib/lsb/init-functions; SuSE has /etc/rc.status; none of them are compatible
with the others.

can You give any advise?

It's been working just fine under oneiric and now in precise, once I
rebuild keepassx to enable the tray icon. Why the package cannot
create/edit the same file, I don't know, but it seems silly to disable
the tray icon altogether, when such a solution exists.

[Bug 1346331] [NEW] Plugin "Indicator Plugin" unexpectedly left the panel

2014-07-21 Thread Taras Chernenko
Public bug reported:

After installing some packages needed to compile outer application
(codeblocks) after reboot xfce4-indicator-plugin started crashing
directly on system load with given message:

"Plugin "Indicator Plugin" unexpectedly left the panel, do you want to
restart it?

The plugin restarted more than once in the last 60 seconds. If you
press Execute the panel will try to restart the plugin otherwise it will
be permanently removed from the panel."

Pressing "Execute" gives this message at once again. Pressing "Remove" just
prevents it from auto launch. I attach the file with the list of installed
packages on my system.

[Bug 1041665] Re: gnome-disk-utility is missing palimpsest (renamed to gnome-disks)

2014-06-06 Thread Taras Chernenko
affected me too. I'm on xubuntu 14.04, installed the utility from Ubuntu
Software Manager (USM), it never appeared in Menu. So i tried it from
Terminal like it's named in USM ('gnome-disk-utility"), but no success.
So i was obliged to search in Synaptic Package Manager (which wasn't
installed by default too) where the files are situated. That's a big
time waste for nothing. Ubuntu is a good OS but u need to add a little
much formality, so end user can see how to launch installed program,
even if it's installed from USM!
