[Bug 604902] Re: Fullscreen control hide kills mplayer and video

2010-07-13 Thread Taylor "Ripps" L-Wren
I just compiled the latest svn with --enable-panscan. This time, when I
attempt to go fullscreen, the entire gnome-mplayer crashes. Fortunately,
this means I was able to get a backtrace.

[Bug 600404] [NEW] Suspend freezes at final stages

2010-06-30 Thread Taylor "Ripps" L-Wren
Public bug reported:

Whenever I try to suspend my computer it seems to freeze at the last
stages of suspension. I can hear it power down my harddisk and my
monitor turns off, but it doesn't powerdown my cpu, fans, or
peripherals. I can't resume it from this state, nor can I reset using
magic keys. It seems everything is frozen.

>From what I can recall, I think suspend worked properly with the default
Lucid install. But I first experienced this when I started using xorg-
edgers in lucid, and the problem seems to persist in Maverick (without
xorg-edgers).

[Bug 592920] Re: Unity crashes during startup

2010-06-18 Thread Taylor "Ripps" L-Wren
I know what the problem is, Unity was written to only allow newer gpus to work.
My older radeon 9600 pro (r300) doesn't support
GL_ARB_texture_non_power_of_two. So I'm probably never going to be to use Unity.
This is kinda annoying, I understand Unity was designed for Netbooks and their
GPUs, but it would be nice if other's were able to try the software as well.

[Bug 568064] Re: Wacom new bamboo models are not recognized in Lucid

2010-06-11 Thread Taylor "Ripps" L-Wren
I've created a wacom-dkms package in one of my ppas. It should build new wacom
modules automatically. I'd appreciate if some people can test it for me.
To install it, enter into a terminal:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ripps818/wacom; sudo apt-get install wacom-dkms

Or, if you want to find the individual packages, just go to:
https://launchpad.net/~ripps818/+archive/wacom/

@Cesare
I guess you didn't read my description, I already said mplayer alone worked
fine.

Besides, I think I know what's causing it. Maverick enabled rgba gtk+,
and it seems that the that's what's messing with it. Everything works
correctly again when I run gnome-mplayer with LIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1

[Bug 521286] [NEW] indicator sound greyed out

2010-02-12 Thread Taylor "Ripps" L-Wren
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: indicator-sound

This new indicator-applet looks nice and everything, both unmute and the mixer
bar itself are greyed out and non-functional. Thus making it a complete waste
of space in my panel.
I use a remapped default.pa for my pulseaudio, but that shouldn't affect how a
mixer functions, because every other volume mixer and the keyboard volume
control work perfectly.

[Bug 501206] [NEW] xserver-xorg-input-wacom conflicts with xserver-xorg-core

2009-12-28 Thread Taylor "Ripps" L-Wren
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: wacom-tools

I upgraded to Lucid Alpha, and I unfortunately discovered that my wacom
graphire3 doesn't work properly. Whenever I click using the pen, the mouse
stops working when I hover over the tablet. I have to move the pen a good
distance away from the tablet before it starts working again. Looking into it,
it seems that wacom-tools and xserver-xorg-input-wacom weren't installed and
couldn't be installed because of some kind of conflict with xserver-xorg-core.
Since I have carpal tunnel, and using a normal mouse for a long period time
begins to cause a good deal of pain, it is very important that I get my
graphire3 working soon.

[Bug 482165] [NEW] X not starting properly on boot

2009-11-13 Thread Taylor "Ripps" L-Wren
Public bug reported:

After the latest round of updates, including kernel 2.6.31.15 and
ureadahead, I lost the ability to use compositing in X. I checked to
make sure my radeon modules were loaded, and everything seemed okay.
However, in order to fix, I need to go to a tty terminal and stop gdm,
modprobe -r radeon drm, modprobe radeon, start gdm. After all that,
compositing would work again. This seems to happen on every boot now.

Also, occasionally, when I boot up my screen will stay black. I think
gdm starts, because I hear a login sound effect that plays when the
login window appears, but my screen is empty. I can't even switch to a
tty terminal, the screen stays black. My only choose is to restart my
computer and hope I starts up properly. This seems to only happen
sprodically.

My gut tells me this might have something to do with either the latest
kernel, or the new ureadahead package. I think something isn't loading
properly.

[Bug 253308] Re: multimedia buttons don't work

2009-11-07 Thread Taylor "Ripps" L-Wren
You need to install gmpc-mmkeys plugin, it's included in the gmpc-trunk ppa.
It makes gmpc compatible with the gnome-session-daemon's dbus hotkeys method.
https://launchpad.net/~gmpc-trunk/+archive/ppa

It might require a newer version than that included with Karmc.

[Bug 410948] Re: Volume too loud

2009-10-31 Thread Taylor "Ripps" L-Wren
Soundblaster Live! 5.1
The log probably shows me switching from a custom sink I made that swaps my
front and rear.

Note: I don't get the overdriven sound when I swap my front and rear, in
fact, it seems that pulseaudio isn't using alsa mixers to change volume
when I do that... kinda strange.

[Bug 447395] [NEW] [Karmic] Randomly boot without sound

2009-10-09 Thread Taylor "Ripps" L-Wren
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: alsa-utils

Randomly, my pc will boot without any sound. Alsa, Pulseaudio, nor OSS
work. Since this only happens once every 10 boots or so, I can only
predict that this might be some kind of race condition that doesn't
occur consistently.

[Bug 443223] [NEW] Gnome-mplayer shows only gray square in fullscreen

2009-10-05 Thread Taylor "Ripps" L-Wren
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-mplayer

When I have gnome-mplayer set to use Xv output, it loses the video in place of
a gray square often. It seems to happen most when it's fullscreen. It will
fullscreen properly for a moment, but will turn into a big gray square when the
controls shift away. This can be bypassed by removing the controls altogether,
but it still occurs again any popup, such as a notification, happens.
This behavior is annoying and needs to be fixed.

[Bug 439818] [NEW] [Kamic] epiphany-gecko can't be installed

2009-09-30 Thread Taylor "Ripps" L-Wren
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: epiphany-browser

Now that epiphany-browser is pushing epiphany-webkit, epiphany-gecko has been
left broken.
Epiphany-gecko can't be installed because it depends on epiphany-browser-data,
which now supports the 2.27 webkit version. Epiphany-gecko should be able to be
installed along with a number of other packages, such as epiphany-gecko-data,
epiphany-gecko-extensions, and epiphany-gecko-extensions-more. This is
especially important because a number of features in epiphany-webit, such as

[Bug 439805] [NEW] [karmic] webkit epiphany-extensions autoscroll incomplete

2009-09-30 Thread Taylor "Ripps" L-Wren
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: epiphany-extensions

Kudos to epiphany-2.27 being the only linux webkit browser with some form of
autoscroll, but it's still incomplete.
When autoscroll is enabled, it prevents other middle click functions to cease
functioning, notably opening links in a new tab. The autoscroll should disable
and middleclick resuem default behavior when applied to links and pastable
fields.

[Bug 432506] Re: [Karmic] Audio is nothing but static

2009-09-22 Thread Taylor "Ripps" L-Wren
Okay, following the advice of someone on IRC, I added tsched=0 after
"load module module-udev-detect" in /etc/pulse/default.pa and added
"export PULSE_NO_SIMD=1" to my .bashrc. However it didn't seem to fix it
until I ran "pulseaudio -k; pulseaudio -vvv".

After that I though sound was fixed, however, when I killed pulse again
and allowed it to be autospawn, the static came back.

It turns out that pulseaudio only works when I start it manually, but
not when it's autospawned.

[Bug 410948] Re: Volume too loud

2009-09-19 Thread Taylor "Ripps" L-Wren
Okay, the latest pulseaudio in the ubunu-audio-dev ppa works a little
better, but I had to change the gconf app/gnome_settings_daemon/volume
step to 1 to have decent control over volume, as the highest I'd want my
headphones with this volume scheme is about 30%.

The only remaining issue is that it still maxes surround early on, when
it should follow the same movement master does with my soundcard.

Also, pulseaudio output is actually broken at the moment because it
causes nothing but static, but alsa output still works fine and volume
control affects alsa output as well. But this bug is unrelated to this
one and I've filed it at
https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/432506

[Bug 432506] Re: [Karmic] Audio is nothing but static

2009-09-18 Thread Taylor "Ripps" L-Wren
Okay, I found out that I can use alsa, but only when I specifically specify
device 0, otherwise programs that just use generic alsa interface will switch
between static and sound as volume changes.
So, this might be an issue with how pulseaudio interfaces with alsa.

[Bug 432508] [NEW] [Karmic] Audio is nothing but static

2009-09-18 Thread Taylor "Ripps" L-Wren
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 432506 ***

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pulseaudio

To be honest, I'm not sure if this is actually a pulse issue, but the problem
began with a pulseaudio upgrade this morning.
When using either alsa or pulseaudio output, sound is nothing but static.
However, if I use OSS, than sound is correct.

I get this over and over again in my messages log:
Sep 18 08:26:41 ripps-desktop pulseaudio[2674]: reserve-wrap.c: Failed to
acquire reservation lock on device 'Audio0': Input/output error

[Bug 428857] [NEW] evolution can't fetch gmail imap anymore

2009-09-13 Thread Taylor "Ripps" L-Wren
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

For the last couple of days I've been unable to access my gmail accounts
through evolution.
I've tried everything I can think of, messing with firewall ports, playing
around with settings on my router, and playing around with ports in evolution,
but nothing is working.
I've even verified that the imap server is up by pinging imap.gmail.com.

I don't know what else to do, can someone please help?

[Bug 394149] Re: [Karmic] wacom graphire 3 not working at boot

2009-09-02 Thread Taylor "Ripps" L-Wren
Oh, I forgot to mention that this bug seemed to have resolved itself.
Things started working around xsplash was introduced, I don't recall any
updates any wacom packages, so I don't really know what was the problem nor
what fixed.

[Bug 413948] Re: Evince can no longer read comicbook archives

2009-08-15 Thread Taylor "Ripps" L-Wren
Okay, I moved one of the comic archives to my home folder and tried opening it
from there. I don't get a permission denied warning, instead i get this:
Unable to open document:
File type Zip archive (application/x-zip) is not supported.

It seems that someone removed compressed archive support in Evince.

[Bug 413948] [NEW] Evince can no longer read comicbook archives

2009-08-15 Thread Taylor "Ripps" L-Wren
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

Today, I suddenly can't read any of my comicbook archives anymore. I have tried
several .cbz and .cbr archives, but I get a Permission Denied warning on
everyone. I've checked the file permissions and there's no reason why they
can't be opened.
In order to double check, I installed qcomicbook and it was able to read them
just fine. Apparently something has regressed in Evince.

[Bug 410948] Re: Volume too loud

2009-08-14 Thread Taylor "Ripps" L-Wren
Okay, I've determined that the Surround slider controls the volume of
the rear speaker port, while Master only control the front. It seems
that Surround should move identical to Master, but instead, it's moving
to highest volume at only 10%. Just wrong.

[Bug 407621] Re: (design decision) Icons missing from context menu , dialogue buttons , firefox bookmark favicons

2009-08-14 Thread Taylor "Ripps" L-Wren
Disabling icons was a bad idea.
It's much easier for the brain to process a single image than to read text.
This is very unintuitive, and makes no sense from a usability standpoint.

[Bug 410948] Re: Volume too loud

2009-08-13 Thread Taylor "Ripps" L-Wren
Hmm... I've made some observations on the volume-control's behaviour by
watching alsamixer:
At mute (0% system volume), Master is 0%, PCM is 0%, and Surround is 0%.
System volume goes above 0%, PCM goes straight to 75% and than the Surround
Slider.
System volume goes above 10%, Surround is at 100% and than the Master slider
starts increasing.
System volume goes above 60%, Master is at 100% and than the PCM slider starts
increasing.

Now, I have couple issues with this:
Why does PCM go straight to 75%, shouldn't it ease up there slowly right after
mute?
Why is only the Surround slider moving between 0-10%. It doesn't have any
affect on normal volume control. In fact, I think it's only used when the
digital 5.1 audio is being used, which is not a normal use case.

Both PCM and surround should be going up gradually throughtout the
entire volume control process, not just jumping around illogically and
annoyingly.
