[Bug 554307] Re: linux-boot-prober yields wrong uuid for kernel root parameter
I installed 17.10 on my SSD and have in total 4 Ubuntu partitions (2 on hard drive and 2 on SSD). With the install, as best I can recall, everything was fine and I could boot both partitions on the SSD. I then updated Grub using Grub Customizer. The menu still shows 4 options for boot, but the two on the SSD have the same UUID so they start the same partition. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/554307 Title: linux-boot-prober yields wrong uuid for kernel root parameter To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/os-prober/+bug/554307/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1641793] Re: Invalid Signature detected -- must uncheck secure boot
Thanks for your suggestion. I backed up everything first; and executed the command "bcdedit /set {bootmgr} path \EFI\ubuntu\shimx64.efi" I set the bios to use secure boot and everything works. I get the grub2 menu and can choose to start either Ubuntu or Windows. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1641793 Title: Invalid Signature detected -- must uncheck secure boot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/shim/+bug/1641793/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1641793] Re: Invalid Signature detected -- must uncheck secure boot
Thanks for your explanation. I am satisfied with the way my system works now. I get the grub menu and can start either Ubuntu or Windows. I do not have the secure boot, but I never had it in previous systems. Is there really any advantage of having secure boot? When I press F12, the Bios shows entries for other drives, such as my USB flash drive with Ubuntu. For the hard drive, it only shows one entry labelled "Windows Boot Manager". This is the same before when it was always booting Windows, and also now when it starts Grub. I assume that others will have the same problem with only starting windows, and some of them could work around the problems with the command: "bcdedit /set {bootmgr} path \EFI\ubuntu\shimx64.efi" I plan to add an entry to the Forum listing this as a possible solution for the case where a machine will only boot Windows. As you suggested, I could try the same command with shimx64.efi. However my system is working and I tend to leave a working system alone. If you wish to learn more, I am willing to do further tests. Otherwise, I suggest that this bug could be listed as closed.
[Bug 1641793] [NEW] Invalid Signature detected -- must uncheck secure boot
Public bug reported: This occurred after a fresh install of 16.04 on an Acer Desktop. At the start only Windows would boot -- no Grub2 screen appeared. I made a number of attempts following "https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UEFI; Nothing worked and they suggested trying "http://askubuntu.com/questions/221835/installing-ubuntu-on-a-pre-installed-windows-10-with-uefi; I executed a suggested command "bcdedit /set {bootmgr} path \EFI\ubuntu\grubx64.efi" This gave the Grub2 menu but only in unsecure boot mode. The same document says to send a bug report if an invalid signature is detected. I am doing that. However in doing so i note that the bug report is sent to "shim". But the instructions said to set the path to "grub64.efi" and not "shimx64.efi" which was also available in the /boot/EFI folder. [Bug 888198] Re: missing dependency to autopano-sift
This bug is a lot worse in Ubuntu 12.04 with Hugin. When you try to align images using the assistant there is not even any error message to give a hint of the problem. It just comes back with the message Warning 2 unconnected image groups found:.. [Bug 357718] Re: Jaunty beta freezes when we try to close firefox browser that has more than one tab open.
I have seen the same behavior (I haven't checked CPU usage). About Firefox shows: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.0.10) Gecko/2009042523 Ubuntu/9.04 (jaunty) Firefox/3.0.10 My computer specs are: Grafik: NVIDIA® GeForce® 8100, max. 512 MB shared Memory, VGA, DVI, DirectX® 10 Mainboard: Biostar GF8100 M2+ TE, Sockel AM2+, GeForce 8100 Chipset, 1× ATA - UDMA 133, 4× SATA II, 4× USB 2.0 + 2× Front-USB, 1× PCIe X16 (v2.0), 2× PCI, 2× PS/2, 6-Kanal HD Audio After a freeze I found the following at the end of the /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old (II) NVIDIA(0): Initialized GPU GART. (this repeated 15 times in total) (II) NVIDIA(0): Initialized GPU GART. (EE) NVIDIA(0): Error recovery failed. (EE) NVIDIA(0): *** Aborting *** After a normal shutdown of Firefox with a single tab open there are no messages Initialized GPU GART. The behavior is quite repeatable, and it freezes every time I shut down multiple tabs. The number of Initialized GPU GART. messages seems to vary. I can not use ctrl-alt-del to reboot, but the past 3 or 4 times I used ctrl-alt +R,E,I,S,U,B and had a successful restart without powering off. -- Jaunty beta freezes when we try to close firefox browser that has more than one tab open. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/357718 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 357718] Re: Jaunty beta freezes when we try to close firefox browser that has more than one tab open.
Yes the behavior is still happening with the final release of 9.04. I upgraded from 8.10 about a week ago. I believe this is the final release. In the Xorg.0.log I find: Build Operating System: Linux 2.6.24-15-server x86_64 Ubuntu Current Operating System: Linux ted-NewComputer 2.6.28-11-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 17 01:58:03 UTC 2009 x86_64 Build Date: 09 April 2009 02:11:54AM xorg-server 2:1.6.0-0ubuntu14 (bui...@crested.buildd) I am using Nvidia drivers obtained from Ubuntu. It lists as version 180 in the Hardware Drivers. In /var/log/kern.log I see: NVRM: loading NVIDIA UNIX x86_64 Kernel Module 180.44 so I assume it is version 180.44. There is a version 180.51 on the Nvidia site, but I have not tried it. I tried repeating the behavior on my old computer with 32 bit Ubuntu 9.04, Celeron processor and ATI Rage Pro graphics. The problem does not appear on the old computer. PS. I noticed an error in my previous comment. The restart was done with Alt-SysReq +R,E,I,S,U,B. -- Jaunty beta freezes when we try to close firefox browser that has more than one tab open. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/357718 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 308466] Re: package console-setup 1.25ubuntu4 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
The upgrade from 8.10 to 9.04 stopped with 3 minutes remaining. I could not do anything in the upgrade so tried restart could not restart Ubuntu GUI (just a brown screen with no icons). I am new to Ubuntu and had no idea what to do but somehow got to a terminal screen and found a repair menu.
