[Bug 2001887] Re: Multiple Instances of the 'Clipboard' Widget
Scarlett, I must confess, I had forgotten about this report (it is now well over a year since I posted it), with no real response. At some time since then both bugs went away, I presumably when I upgraded to 23.04 or 23.10, but I don't actually remember. At the time I probably lived with the Clipboard issue and I know I reverted to Clementine, since that is what I'm using now. I'm assuming that the upgrades have still not been enabled, even though Brian Murray reported that 'We'll be enabling them this week after reviewing bug reports from users upgrading to 20.04 LTS.' [Bug 1875340] Re: snap refresh schedule allows laptops to miss updates
OK. Thanks for the quick response. I think that there might be something related to Chromium here because when I initially ran snap refresh, only the Chromium code was updated. I'm assuming that other snap apps have been updated over the intervening months, so why was only Chromium missed? Perhaps it's not the snap refresh --timer schedule that's the problem; everything else was OK, but not Chromium for some reason. [Bug 1875340] [NEW] snap refresh schedule allows laptops to miss updates
Public bug reported: Hi, I may have missed something somewhere, but I recently came across a problem with our laptop. This machine is currently running Kubuntu 19.10 but it emerged that the version of Chromium installed dated back to Dec 2019. On my desktop machine (also running Kubuntu 19.10), Chromium was at the latest version. Having consulted the docs I ran a manual refresh of Chromium and the latest version was installed. This begs the question; why were able to use the machine for nearly five months without snap refreshing Chromium? After further research I suspect this is due to the way in which snaps are automatically refreshed; by default this is four times a day between midnight and midnight, eg every 6 hours. (There seems to be some randomisation introduced because running 'snap refresh --timer' does not return times of , 0600, 1200 or 1800.) My suspicion is that this has come about because our laptop rarely runs for six hours at a time; typically it is switched on, used for an hour or two (sometimes much less) and then shut down again. The problem that I see with this is that in these days of people owning multiple devices this use-case is probably quite common. I have seen in the docs that I can change the refresh cycle to be more aligned to the times that we use the machine, but before they can do that, people will need to realise that they need to. I only found this out by accident. Not everyone who runs Linux is a software developer or system administrator (I'm not, I'm a retired systems engineer from the test industry), so are unlikely to read the docs for snapd. Can I suggest that snapd runs an automatic refresh within 30 minutes of boot up, to try to prevent this problem? ** Affects: chromium-browser (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: refresh snap -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1875340 Title: snap refresh schedule allows laptops to miss updates To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chromium-browser/+bug/1875340/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 857828] Re: kontact migration to 11.10 fails
Well I can add to the cacophony of failure. I downloaded the full release of 11.10 yesterday and immediately got most of the errors that others have seen above. I currently have no email, but can get Contacts. Also, for some reason I cannot get my calendar to work either. Unless someone has a fix for this pretty darn quick, I'm going to have to seriously consider a clean installation. Since that will mean me recreating all of my accounts, aliases and filters, I am thinking hard about moving to another package, like Thunderbird or Evolution. At the moment, it is mainly Kontact that has kept me with Kubuntu, so the end result of all this might well be (another) lost Kubuntu user. *Please*; if anyone can offer any hope for a fix in the near future, please say now. Sorry to rant on, but the decision to leave this bug in the full release was foolhardy in the extreme. [Bug 342671] Re: Doesn't support installations which require a removal
This is a bug reporting and not a trolling system. Please read the reasons above why this is not supported. I concur with your request for people to stop trolling; that is not helpful. However, I'm slightly confused as to where the reasons for not supporting this are given. Could you please indicate a message #? As a number of people have said, the updating system works fine in synaptic and aptitude? I would like to echo the comments here and in some of the duplicative bugs that this is a real problem for 'normal' users, eg non-programmers or people who are not overly computer-literate. When I originally posted this myself in Bug #411095 I said: 'When Blocked Updates are available, KPackageKit makes them available in the updater and flags an alert to say that updates are ready. However, it prevents the updates being applied, so the alert stays up forever, defeating the point of having an alert. [Bug 411095] [NEW] Blocked Updates continuously trigger the Alert
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kpackagekit I originally asked about this using the Answers forum (see https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update- manager/+question/78540). The problem is this: When Blocked Updates are available, KPackageKit makes them available in the updater and flags an alert to say that updates are ready. However, it prevents the updates being applied, so the alert stays up forever, defeating the point of having an alert. It is also a potential security problem (although not an actual one) because the user may get fed up with manually checking for new updates and miss a critical one. I suggest any or all of the following three changes: 1. Blocked updates on their own should not trigger the alert so that it only appears when an update that needs the user's attention is ready. 2. When the user opened KPackageKit to view the updates, an explanation of why blocked updates are there should be available, so they don't worry about them. 3. Alternatively, if the Blocked Updates are not important to the average user, why show them at all? Perhaps an option to suppress them might be the answer, which is set by default. I did look for the option mentioned in 3. above, but couldn't see anything. [Bug 226487] [NEW] Wireless Network settings not persistent and not effective
Public bug reported: I have tried Hardy on two computers which have wireless interfaces which both previously worked fine with earlier versions of Kubuntu. In both cases, the symptoms are identical: KNetworkManager sees the Access Point and gives a good indication of signal strength. It also sees other Access Points in the area. However, when I enter the WEP key, it times out with a failure message. If I then try to do the settings the other way round, eg using the Network Settings dialog in the System Settings application, I can enter all the data, (including the WEP key), but wireless is not properly enabled (eg it doesn't provide a route to the internet). In previous versions of Kubuntu, I've always found that after this initial setup a reboot is needed, to get wireless to work. In this case all the fields in the Network Settings dialog are blank again after a restart. If I exit the System Settings application and restart it without a reboot, the settings remain, (but still won't work). I've tried to disable and re-enable the network before rebooting, but this has no effect. I can get wireless to work using the information at http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-to-troubleshoot-wireless-network- connection-in-ubuntu.html, providing I shut down KNetworkManager first, but can't work out how to make it persistent across reboots. If I try to do the settings manually with KNetworkManager still running I get major errors logged in kern.log and other log files. I have also reported this at the KDE bug tracker see http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=161606, because the site came up when I clicked on Report a Bug in the Help Menu. However, it occurs to me that this may be a Hardy problem, rather than a (K)Ubuntu one. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Wireless Network settings not persistent and not effective https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/226487 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
