[Bug 993610] Re: [Dell Latitude 5520] System locks up when trying to reboot

2013-04-16 Thread Thibault Lemaitre
I waited some days to post it, to be sure. This bug is fixed on my
laptop since few days. So, I don't understand why status is changed to
"Won't Fix"?

I'm able to shutdown it without problem.
I'll try to restart it many times during the next days and give you the result
here.

2012-06-10 Thread Thibault Lemaitre
More information about this bug: I did an update some days ago and my

Unfortunately, after this only one successful shutdown I came back to
the same situation: unable to shutdown my computer.

I'm gonna install another Ubuntu 12.04 on my pc to test safely the
latest upstream kernel in few days.

2012-08-03 Thread Thibault Lemaitre
Yes I still have this problem. It doesn't occur each time I try to stop
my laptop but almost. For example I updated my computer on the 1st
august and could stop my computer after it, but couldn't stop my
computer the 2nd august.

I will try the upstream kernel (as Joseph suggest) this week-end.

[Bug 993610] Re: [Dell Latitude 5520] System locks up when trying to reboot

2012-08-06 Thread Thibault Lemaitre
Good news : this bug seems to be solved in the upstream kernel. I tried
the Mainline kernel v3.4-rc6-precise (06-May-2012 22:56) [1] as I didn't
found the *image*.deb in the v3.4-rc7-precise folder.

I was able to reboot, and halt my computer without problems (via the
menu on the top right corner). I tried to reboot from a VGA console (I
discover the name) but it went back to the "Alt + F7" view before I was
able to read something.

[Bug 993610] Re: [Dell Latitude 5520] System locks up when trying to reboot

2012-08-07 Thread Thibault Lemaitre
I've just tried what you tell Ming and it seems I didn't do the things
perfectly.

First I disabled lightdm, and not gdm: ok

After a reboot, once loged on my pc on the tty1, I try the command:
sudo echo 9 > /proc/sys/kernel/printk
Here is the problem, it answers me:
   bash: /proc/sys/kernel/printk: Permission non accordée
(not allowed)

I however tried a reboot and I attach the two syslog files I found in
the folder /var/log/ to this message. Maybe useless, I don't know cause
I don't understand everything I did.

[Bug 564072] Re: DPI is not recognized by UBUNTU, so fonts, icons and the whole system is too small

2011-05-13 Thread Thibault Lemaitre
It seems I have the same bug on my laptop with the Natty release.

I'm using a Dell Latitude D830 with an Nvidia Quadro NVS 135M. I
installed the proprietary drivers.

I try to change the resolution (in pixel) with nvidia-settings.

With 1920*1200 (native resolution) I have :
xdpyinfo | grep dime && xdpyinfo | grep reso
  dimensions:1920x1200 pixels (331x210 millimeters)
  resolution:147x145 dots per inch

with 1680*1050 I have :
xdpyinfo | grep dime && xdpyinfo | grep reso
  dimensions:1680x1050 pixels (290x183 millimeters)
  resolution:147x146 dots per inch

In the second case, the quality of the image was worse than with the
native resolution : can it be explained by the dpi difference 146 vs 145
?

[Bug 699908] [NEW] twinkle doesn't start correctly when it is in the startup applications

2011-01-07 Thread Thibault Lemaitre
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: twinkle

I'm using ubuntu 10.10 and twinkle 1.4.2.

I wanted to launch twinkle when my gnome session startup (gnome-session-
properties) and it doesn't work correctly. the twinkle icon which is
normally in the notification area (version 2.30.2) was on my desktop
(just under the applications menu).

As I have a really basic knowledge in bash, I wrote a little script, which
follows :
#!/usr/bin/env bash

sleep 15
twinkle --hide &

exit 0

I told to the gnome-session-properties tool to launch this script and it
works fine. I have the icon in the notification area.

Anyone has the same problem? Just try it by drag and drop in the gnome-

Ok.

Bad to learn that my patch is not good :(
But good to learn that more illegal characters are detected in the last
versions :)

I will try it from the PPAs (nightly builds I suppose ?).

[Bug 486303] Re: Every illegal character aren't well detected and forbidden

2011-03-24 Thread Thibault Lemaitre
I test with the current version of the PPA (so version 2011.0.0.472072ea810d).
I also looked the mercurial repo and see the last update (2c1006ce6919) which
forbids the following for other OS than Windows (if I well understood):
=;:%*?<>|\"

My tests shows that I can use the followings
*'&
It was not possible to well use the following characters:
$~.
The point (.) seemed to well work but in fact the filename is cut and the
extension is added after the first point encountered.

I attach some logs I had during these tests. That's only the log
corresponding to the times where Hugin told me there was an error and
stop to stitch.

To conclude, for me, the minimal forbidden characters on Linux are:
=;:%?<>|\"$~.

[Bug 122636] Re: Gshutdown closes gnome session but does not shutdown down

2011-02-11 Thread Thibault Lemaitre
Me too I have this problem on maverick. When I try to launch gshutdown
in a terminal, it launch, but write it:

** (gshutdown:8860): WARNING **: Failed to establish a connection with
GDM: Aucun fichier ou dossier de ce type

I only selected the last line, cause I really think it's the problem.

@koukourikos : with your solution, does it mean that everyone can use the
command shutdown ? What about the security in this case ? Isn't it more secure
to launch gshutdown in sudo : I mean use the command gskudo gshutdown or sudo
gshutdown ?

To add some information to the comment of Marcus (#11). A workaround to use the

Specially for the Frenchies : look at this page : http://doc.ubuntu-

[Bug 718684] [NEW] flashplugin-installer should be linked to flashplugin-nonfree

2011-02-14 Thread Thibault Lemaitre
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: flashplugin-installer

When one use Synaptic and search flash plugin, one find that the package
flashplugin-nonfree is a transitional package and should be remove
without problem because flashplugin-installer replace it.

When one search for flash plugin on Launchpad, one find that
flashplugin-installer is empty, and flashplugin-nonfree not.

It should be good to put a link to flashplugin-nonfree on the overview

[Bug 677262] Re: Flash player fullscreen completely crashes Ubuntu

2011-02-14 Thread Thibault Lemaitre
Sorry, the package flashplugin-installer worked one time but I have
still the problem (notably with youtube)

To reboot my computer, I have to use the Magic SysRq Keys (see links
[1], [2] and [3]) : Alt + Syst + S --> E --> I --> U --> B. I tried to
use the TTYs with Ctrl + Alt + F1 (and others), but nothing changes in
the display and the sound of the flash video still play in background.

I tried the full screen mode on several websites (see links [4], [5] and
[6]) and the only one which doesn't work is Youtube. For this one, I had
to right click on the video, then to select the parameters. In the
parameters window (in the display tab) I unchecked the box "Enable
hardware rendering" (French : j'ai décoché la case "Activer
l'accélération matérielle").

I didn't try to deactivate the proprietary drivers, but if it works it
would be a more global solution.

[Bug 718807] [NEW] Wireshark should use the default web browser

2011-02-14 Thread Thibault Lemaitre
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: wireshark

I installed Wireshark today and when I click to the link of the main
window, it doesn't open my default web browser (which is Firefox), but
Chromium.

I'm on Ubuntu 10.10 and use Wireshark from the repo (so version 1.2.11)

[Bug 711761] Re: Gnome preferred browser not honored on using gnome-open or xdg-open

2011-02-14 Thread Thibault Lemaitre
I have also ubuntu 10.10 and I try the following command in a terminal :
gnome-open http://ubuntu.com

[Bug 562476] Re: x-www-browser and gnome-www-browser not use the default browser

2011-02-14 Thread Thibault Lemaitre
I tried to reproduce this bug. I'm running Ubu 10.10 and I have Firefox
and Chromium installed. Chromium installed after Firefox.

I first set the default web browser to Firefox with gnome-default-
applications-properties.

Then I tried several command in relation with web browser.

Some of them opened the default browser I chose:
xdg-open http://ubuntu.com
gnome-open http://ubuntu.com

The others opened Chromium, that I didn't choose:
x-www-browser
gnome-www-browser
sensible-browser

The gnome-default-applications-properties should set all these command
to the default web browser you selected in.

For me too, with maverick it opens a new Firefox window instead of a new
tab (as set in the Firefox preferences). The option in preferred
applications was on "Open the link with the the default web browser".
Tested applications : Software-center, Transmission, and Openoffice.org

An exception : Firefox open a new tab as set in its option : well done!

To have the links opened in a new tab for the other applications, I have
to choose "Open the link in a new tab" in the preferred applications
windows.

[Bug 718684] Re: the Launchpad flashplugin-installer web page should be linked to the Launchpad flashplugin-nonfree web page

2011-02-16 Thread Thibault Lemaitre
No, your problem is not the same than mine. I just open this bug to
suggest a disambiguation between the two launchpad pages flashpugin-
installer and falshplugin-nonfree.

I can just suggest you to uninstall all flashplugin packages (notably
adobe-flashplugin) and then install apt://flashplugin-installer, with
Synaptic or other package managers but not in Firefox (and close it
during this procedure should also be better).

[Bug 486303] Re: Illegal caractere

2011-03-14 Thread Thibault Lemaitre
I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 with the Hugin's version of the PPA hugin-
builds (so the 2010.4.0) and that's not fixed.

I also try other special characters and I have some test result to give
back to the developers in the attached file.

During my tests, a message opened when I used the characters =;:% and I
had to find another name. In my opinion, this is really user-friendly
and one way to fix this bug should be to add the special characters
known to cause a bug to this list. This list should depend of the OS if
the special character support depends of the OS used.

[Bug 486303] Re: Illegal caractere

2011-03-14 Thread Thibault Lemaitre
I try to find how to fix this bug and I have a patch to propose new
forbidden special characters.

As the CVS are quite new for me, I explain the way I use here. If there
is mistakes, told me.

I cloned the mercurial repository to my laptop, modified a file and
compile Hugin after the modifications. I then try to save a panorama
with the character I introduced and I get the message I expected to. I
finally commit the modifications and export them to a patch that I
attach to this message.

My sound works well for Ubuntu in general (I mean Rhythmbox, VLC, etc.). I met
the same problem with ppt/pps file.
I'm currently trying to answer the following question on the same topic (in
French) : https://answers.launchpad.net/openoffice/+question/138957

I try the attachment of Patrick Goetz by three ways.
Openoffice on Ubuntu 10.10 : no sound !
Openoffice on Windows : the sound plays well during the whole presentation.
MS office on Windows : the same result.

To conclude, I mark this bug as confirmed

Version used for the previous tests:
Ubuntu : 10.10 (upgrade from a 10.04 done in november)
Ooo on Ubuntu :
OpenOffice.org 3.2.1

[Bug 119899]

2011-01-09 Thread Thibault Lemaitre
I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 and Thunderbird 3.1.7 and I have a comparable
bug.

In the filter windows, I created a new header : Reply-To. I then tried
to use it in a filter and it doesn't work correctly. The attachment
502220 in the comment 109 are the file I used to do my tests.

All my tests were done after the both messages were received. Each time
I put the message in the Inbox folder before to run the filters.

I try to filter the both messages in the attachment by three ways : with the
Execute button in the filter windows, with Tools --> Execute filters on the
message and with Tools --> Execute filters on the folder.
When I applied the filters on the message, nothing happened !
When I used the two others ways, the message which begins by "Filter works :"
was well filtered, so moved in the folder I chose (Ubuntu in this case).

I also try this filter on other messages and it doesn't work. In
comparison, my other filters (on non-personally created headers such as
from or to) works fine with the three ways.

[Bug 701466] [NEW] Cervisia is not in the applications menu

2011-01-11 Thread Thibault Lemaitre
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdesdk

I'm using ubuntu 10.10 in French and I installed cervisia with the
software-center.

The software-center told me Cervisia can be found in the menu
"Applications -> Programmation" (in French, maybe Computing in
English?), but I didn't find it.

I looked in the menu editor and the cervisia is well in the
"Programmation" section and he is ticked on.

I looked then in the /usr/share/app-install/desktop directory and the
desktop file for cervisia is here with the name kde4_cervisia.desktop. I
attach it to this post

I also attach the file diffuse.desktop file which is also in the
"Programmation" section but work well. To the details, I also installed
it with the software-center today.

Am I alone?

[Bug 486303] Re: Every illegal character aren't well detected and forbidden

2011-03-25 Thread Thibault Lemaitre
I did some more tries with the same version than yesterday.

These characters worked for me
'`^"#!@

The escape character (\) didn't work

So the " should be authorized and the \ should be added to the forbidden
characters.

For the ", I read on the mercurial repo that there was problem with :
"the double quote does not work with the panotools file format, so also reject"
So, somebody who knows more about that should test it more accurately.

[Bug 486303] Re: Every illegal character aren't well detected and forbidden

2011-03-26 Thread Thibault Lemaitre
tmodes, sorry for my English, but there is clearly a misunderstanding
between us.

When I told :
"For the ", I read on the mercurial repo that there was problem with :
"the double quote does not work with the panotools file format, so also reject"
So, somebody who knows more about that should test it more accurately."
It meant that **my test** were really simple and somebody who have more
knowledge in hugin should be able to better judge if the double quote cause
really a problem or not (for example the person who write the comment about the
double quote). I wrote it cause I hadn't problem with the " and didn't
understand why it was forbidden. The simplicity of my tests can maybe explain
that.

Concerning the version I choose to test. I used the nightly PPA cause
the last time I compile hugin, it took much time : one more time, my
test where maybe too simple.

[Bug 486303] Re: Every illegal character aren't well detected and forbidden

2011-03-28 Thread Thibault Lemaitre
I'm ok that the ways I used weren't the best one. Especially for the
double submission I did (I didn't patient enough) and the quality of the
patch that I proposed (which was completely false). Moreover, one of my
comments weren't enough clear, and could be read as an insult to the
coders, for sure!

Globally, I thought simply that things were easy for a newbie in
development (that I am). I, now, think I'm clearly not enough involved
in Hugin to be able to propose patches and well understand their impact.
I will reserve my future "contributions" (if there are) to post comments
and test results and translations (if necessary) and try to follow the
feedback you give me with this bug to this in the better way.

However, I'm a little bit surprised to read only bad news about my tests
of contribution. My tests or suggestions weren't complete, but if I read
the changelog on the repo, it seems it helped a little bit. I don't need
people told me thanks for such a little participation (of poor quality
moreover), but when somebody take time to write a message, he can says
thanks for the help it gives and then explain what wasn't good. I'm
trying to participate in other open source projects (on which I also did
some errors) and it's the first time that I have only pessimistic
feedback.

I hope that my next participations in Hugin will be better for everyone.

I checked the vlc's parameters with the UI and they seems to be good. See the

I checked the vlc's parameters in the file ~/.config/vlc/vlcrc and the result
