[Bug 224665] Re: ntpd starts but does not contact peers
I can confirm this. I have traced this a little and I believe this is what happens: Upon bringing up static network devices quite early in the boot process, the script /etc/network/if-up.d/ntpdate is executed which first stops ntpd, then calls ntpdate and then starts ntpd. Then ntpd is already running (in my case, before bind which it needs to resolve the peer IP addresses), so a later invoke-rc.d --quiet ntp start in the boot process does not restart ntpd, and there you go: ntpd is still in the state where it was before peer IP adresses became resolvable. (Btw, that is also the reason why you can see ntpd stopping *before* starting in the boot process. The /etc/network/if-up.d/ntpdate is trying to stop ntpd which is not running yet.) -- ntpd starts but does not contact peers https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/224665 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 224665] Re: ntpd starts but does not contact peers
Yep, re-confirmed. [Bug 144380] ubuntu alters desktopfiles which leads to dataloss
Public bug reported: Typing 'kmail' in a konsole will start kmail and on doing anything (like quitting) kmail will freeze and I have to kill it. I had to kill kmail a total of 5 times to get rid of the problem (actually apt-get remove kmail was the last thing I did). Ah, KMilo! That was disabled for some reason... The result (after starting that service) is that the volume is raised form 0% to 10% and it can go back to 0% when I press the 'lower'. Well, its a weird button, really. Its a horizontal-rotating 'disk' that you can turn, but it only has a small rotation angle. And when you release it it goes back to the center. This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source Ps. this is on Feisty (amd64) -- Firefox says no Java installed, but sun-java6-jre is installed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/111750 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 110826] Re: vbetool hangs on dpms off
I figured out that in feisty a (quite) old version of the intel driver was installed by default; while there is a newer driver actually available using apt-get. I updated from 1.7 to 1.9 and this problem went away. -- vbetool hangs on dpms off https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/110826 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 110826] vbetool hangs on dpms off
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: vbetool On my laptop I installed Kubuntu Feisty with vbetool 1.0-0ubuntu1 Doing a suspend calls 'vbetool dpms off' this command (also when called from a konsole) just takes CPU and never returns. (and doesn't seem to do anything visually) I can control-c it just fine. ** Affects: vbetool (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- vbetool hangs on dpms off https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/110826 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 110824] software suspend doesn't actually suspend
Public bug reported: In Kubuntu Feisty I use the icon on my taskbar to software-suspend. (the battery icon). After switching to a terminal nothing happens and my Toshiba Techra A8 machine just keeps on running. Helpful details; * vbetool dpms off hangs, so I removed that from the scripts. * I can just use alt-F7 to switch to X11 and authenticate in the screensaver after which I can (kind of) continue working. * Using 'echo 3 /proc/acpi/sleep' makes my machine suspend. Unfortunately I need to reboot as it doesn't wake up ;) ** Affects: powermanagement-interface (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- software suspend doesn't actually suspend https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/110824 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 67130] Re: mount points preparation locked - No root file system
Michael; ext3 is probably the only filesystem it works for, then. Try reiserFS3. -- mount points preparation locked - No root file system https://launchpad.net/bugs/67130 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 77602] Edgy installer doesn't let me use ReiserFs3
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 67130 *** Public bug reported: Booting from the kubuntu edgy (i386) installer cd I click on the 'Install' icon and fail to format as reiserFs. I then do fdisk and mkreiserfs from a konsole and restart the installer. Unfortunately the installer refused to let me select a partition as root that is reiserFS :( if I try the 'Prepare mount points' screen will refuse to let me go to the next screen as long as I don't select a partition that is non-reiserfs. it says that I didn't select a root partition. But I did. And when I go back and reformat that root partition as ext3; then it works. I don't know what you guys have against ReiserFS, but I have good experiences with it and can't ship this system using a filesystem I don't have good experiences with. ** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed ** Description changed: - Booting from the edgy (i386) installer cd I click on the 'Install' icon and fail to format as reiserFs. + Booting from the kubuntu edgy (i386) installer cd I click on the 'Install' icon and fail to format as reiserFs. [Bug 70429] config uses 'kview' which is not installed by default.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: klipper In the default klipper configuration the actions connected with images (jpeg) is to execute kview. But on kubuntu the kview application is not installed, gwenview is. I suggest to alter the default configuration so it works for a default install. Note I saw this on edgy. ** Affects: kdebase (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- config uses 'kview' which is not installed by default. https://launchpad.net/bugs/70429 -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
[Bug 69231] Keyboard shortcut ctrl-pageup stopped working
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: konsole Using konsole from dapper, but also from edgy I see that the keyboard shortcut used in irssi to scroll back in the buffer no longer works. The key is ctrl-pageup. I found that the keyboard shortcut was reserved for switching tabs, so I opened the shotcuts settings dialog and pressed 'default' there. I could no longer switch tabs, but the scrolling in the irssi buffer still is not possible. ** Affects: kdebase (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Keyboard shortcut ctrl-pageup stopped working https://launchpad.net/bugs/69231 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 69231] Re: Keyboard shortcut ctrl-pageup stopped working
After logging in again it started working. No clue why. I guess you can close the bug, the only problem is that the defaults are changed which grabs the key for switching tabs. Which I think is a mistake (its not even the same as other apps in KDE) -- Keyboard shortcut ctrl-pageup stopped working https://launchpad.net/bugs/69231 -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
