[Bug 1591057] [NEW] Restoring a maximized Terminal window doesn't return the Terminal window to original dimensions

2016-06-10 Thread Tomas Cassidy
Public bug reported:

What goes wrong:

When a terminal window is maximized, clicking the "return" button in the
title bar doesn't return the window to the original dimensions.

What should happen:

Clicking the "return" button on a maximized terminal window should
return the window to the original dimensions.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Open a Terminal.
2. Click "maximize" buttton in title bar (square button) to maximize the window
to fullscreen.
3. Click the "return" button in title bar (rectangle button) to return the
window to the previous dimensions.
4. The window dimensions will change from full screen to "almost" full screen.

[Bug 1579978] Re: upgrade to 1:7.2p2-4ubuntu1 fails on ubuntu server

2016-05-11 Thread Tomas Cassidy
Hi Robie,

I tried purging and reinstalling openssh-server, but that failed again
with the same error.

I then rebooted the machine and was able to then successfully run apt-
get -f install to fix the package installation. Subsequently re-
installing the package worked without a problem.

Perhaps there was a temporary file causing a problem somewhere, which
was automatically cleaned out on reboot? Something leftover from the
upgrade to xenial?

[Bug 1579978] Re: upgrade to 1:7.2p2-4ubuntu1 fails on ubuntu server

2016-05-10 Thread Tomas Cassidy
Hi Robie,

I had the same problem occur this morning on a couple of server installs
running systemd-sysv, so I'm thinking it might not be an upstart-
specific issue. I rebooted one of the servers and was then able to
upgrade the package successfully. I haven't yet rebooted the other
server. Both had a .crash file in /var/crash and I submitted one of
them as bug 1580401. I couldn't work out how to submit the .crash file
to an existing bug report.

[Bug 1579978] Re: upgrade to 1:7.2p2-4ubuntu1 fails on ubuntu server

2016-05-10 Thread Tomas Cassidy
I upgraded from Vivid => Wily => Xenial. I had switched back to
upstart-sysv on Vivid but I noticed that the upgrade software reinstalls
the ubuntu-standard package (and therefore systemd-sysv) on upgrade to a
new release, so I had re-installed upstart-sysv after each upgrade.

[Bug 933972] Re: Sierra Wireless 320U USB-to-WWAN modem is not detected (needs updated drivers from manufacturer website)

2012-12-04 Thread Tomas Cassidy
That looks like the correct drivers. If you run ifconfig -a do you
see a wwan0 interface listed? If not, then I'm not sure what else to do
as I am running from one of these devices right now.

If the wwan0 interface is there then it should be appearing in Network
Manager. There should also be a new option in the network menu for
Enable Mobile Broadband. You will also see a bunch of stuff appearing
in the syslog at /var/log/syslog after plugging in the device.

[Bug 933972] Re: Sierra Wireless 320U USB-to-WWAN modem is not detected (needs updated drivers from manufacturer website)

2012-12-01 Thread Tomas Cassidy
Please don't mark bugs as private unless there is confidential
information in the bug report.

This has already been fixed, as the patches for this are now included in
the current released kernels for Ubuntu 12.04 and 12.10. You shouldn't
have to do anything with the driver from Sierra Wireless. It should
just work and be detected automatically when you plug in your usb
modem device.

If you have previously installed a separate driver (eg. from the Sierra
Wireless website), then you will need to uninstall that to revert to the
driver included in the kernel.

If you run modinfo sierra and modinfo sierra_net from a Terminal
window, you should see the following driver versions:

$ modinfo sierra
filename:
/lib/modules/3.5.0-19-generic/kernel/drivers/usb/serial/sierra.ko
license:GPL
version:v.1.7.16
description:USB Driver for Sierra Wireless USB modems
...

$ modinfo sierra_net
filename:
/lib/modules/3.5.0-19-generic/kernel/drivers/net/usb/sierra_net.ko
license:GPL
version:v.2.0
description:USB-to-WWAN Driver for Sierra Wireless modems
...

Public bug reported:

[Bug 1061386] [NEW] Can't add a domain user as the only member of a local group

2012-10-03 Thread Tomas Cassidy
Public bug reported:

My computer is hooked up to an Active Directory domain with likewise-
open and has one local admin account that was created on installing
Ubuntu. If I try to add my domain account to a local group, and it is
the only member of that group, it doesn't appear in the output of the
groups command. If I add the local admin account to the group in
/etc/group before the domain account, then it all works fine.

Eg.

This fails to list the domain user under the group libvirtd:

libvirtd:x:127:DOMAIN\user

If I add the local admin account then it all works fine:

libvirtd:x:127:localaccount,DOMAIN\user

[Bug 589057] Re: help.ubuntu.com still uses old logo/branding

2012-06-24 Thread Tomas Cassidy
I've noticed that the following help docs for Ubuntu 11.04, 10.04 and
8.04, all linked from help.ubuntu.com, are still using the old theme.

https://help.ubuntu.com/8.04/index.html
https://help.ubuntu.com/10.04/index.html
https://help.ubuntu.com/11.04/installation-guide/index.html
https://help.ubuntu.com/11.10/installation-guide/index.html

The Ubuntu 8.04 Server Guide, located at
https://help.ubuntu.com/8.04/serverguide/index.html, does not have any
theme active, so it currently displays as just black text on white
background.

In addition, the Ubuntu 11.10 Desktop Help guide, located at
https://help.ubuntu.com/11.10/ubuntu-help/index.html, is showing half
the page text in a different language (which Google Translate
identified for me as Catalan).

Note that these patches do not implement the full updated driver from
SierraWireless. They only add the new device ID to the existing sierra
drivers, so are lacking any new features that are in the latest drivers
from SierraWireless.

[Bug 943263] Re: PC display will not turn on with Llano APUs connected to the VGA port

2012-06-03 Thread Tomas Cassidy
I can confirm that setting consoleblank=0 stops the screen from becoming
unresponsive. I set the consoleblank parameter in grub and left the
computer for 30 minutes. After coming back to it, the console login
screen was still visible and I could interact with the computer as
normal.

This suggests that the problem on this new kernel from proposed repo is
now with DPMS.

[Bug 943263] Re: PC display will not turn on with Llano APUs connected to the VGA port

2012-05-27 Thread Tomas Cassidy
It appears that the bug is not entirely fixed. If I leave the computer
for a while and come back to it, the screen is now blank and
unresponsive, while the numlock/capslock keys on the keyboard still
toggle so I'm guessing it's only the display that is still not working.
If I then force-reboot the pc (Alt+SysRq+REISUB) then the display re-
appears, but then disappears after leaving it again for a short while.
I haven't waited around to see how long it takes for the screen to
become unresponsive, but my guess would be after the display is put to
sleep by power management stuff in the kernel.

I read a how-to guide on DPMS that mentioned using xset, but I don't
have X11 installed on this server (at least not that I know of).

[Bug 645694] Re: WARNING: at /build/buildd/linux-2.6.32/net/sched/sch_generic.c:261 dev_watchdog+0x262/0x270()

2012-03-28 Thread Tomas Cassidy
I no longer have the hardware that this bug appeared on, so I don't have
any way to reliably test this again. I've never seen it occur on any of
my other machines, but they are all using the generic kernel so that
might have different runtime options to the server kernel. I think
this bug can probably closed if no one else has seen the problem.

Hi Nicolás,

I think bug 965895 may be related to this one. If that bug is the same
issue as what you are reporting, can you please mark one of the bug
reports as a duplicate of the other. If not, then nothing needs to be
changed. Thanks.

[Bug 965889] [NEW] Wireless network SSID name is truncated when viewing wireless networks from Installer

2012-03-26 Thread Tomas Cassidy
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
1. Install latest daily-live ISO to a usb stick with Unetbootin
2. Boot into usb stick
3. Select Install Ubuntu from the Unetbootin menu
4. When the first welcome/language selection screen appears, click on the
WiFi/NetworkManager icon in top-right of screen. Wifi network SSID names are
truncated.

Eg. SSID of FOO_WiFi appears as FOOWiFi in the list of wireless
networks. It appears to do it for all SSIDs as I see FOO_WiFi
changing to FOOWiFi and BAR_WiFi changing to BARWiFi.

[Bug 965895] [NEW] WiFi/NetworkManager menu doesn't show all items after booting into LiveCD environment

2012-03-26 Thread Tomas Cassidy
Public bug reported:

[Bug 943263] Re: PC display will not turn on with Llano APUs connected to the VGA port

2012-03-18 Thread Tomas Cassidy
I've got the same problem. Running A8-3850 APU on an ASRock A75M-HVS.
Tested with the mainline kernel 3.3-rc7. The HDMI port works fine. The
VGA port fails to work unless I boot with nomodeset. I'm running this
with Ubuntu Server 11.10, so there is no Xorg installed.

[Bug 941773] Re: Broadband plan for Telstra Bigpond is not listed when adding a new mobile broadband connection

2012-03-15 Thread Tomas Cassidy
Yes. I just tested this. I had to specify the APN as telstra.bigpond
and set the username and password. Everything else was left as default.

It appears to get all the IP/DNS/etc. from DHCP. The Speed under the
General heading is listed as Unknown, and the Hardware Address is
blank.

[Bug 948690] [NEW] Error when attempting to edit Mobile Broadband connection

2012-03-06 Thread Tomas Cassidy
Public bug reported:

I'm getting an error when I attempt to edit a Mobile Broadband
connection in Network Manager. I click on the Mobile Broadband tab of
Network Connections, select the connection and click the Edit... button.
I then get an error message appearing for Error initialising editor.
No agents were available for this request.. This leaves me unable to
edit/configure any Mobile Broadband connection, and therefore unable to
connect to the internet via my usb modem.

I don't get any errors when editing Wired or Wireless connections.

[Bug 942361] [NEW] Keyboard is not detected on grub menu when plugged in to USB3 port

Public bug reported:

[Bug 941689] [NEW] Launcher no loger hides when application windows are moved over the launcher or maximised

2012-02-26 Thread Tomas Cassidy
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu 11.10, the Unity Launcher would autohide if an application
window was moved over the launcher area or an application window was

underneath the launcher instead of causing the launcher to hide.

[Bug 933972] Re: Sierra Wireless 320U USB-to-WWAN modem is not detected

2012-02-26 Thread Tomas Cassidy
Tested with upstream v3.3-rc5 (http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/v3.3-rc5-precise/) and the device still not detected.

I can confirm that the updated drivers from Sierra Wireless website work
on v3.3-rc5. After installing the updated drivers, the device is
detected and a wwan0 interface is created.

** Summary changed:

- Sierra Wireless 320U USB-to-WWAN modem is not detected

from manufacturer website)

** Description changed:

I have a Sierra Wireless 320U USB 4G/LTE modem that is not detected when

installing directly (without going into LiveCD environment). The
installer still says on the first screen of the slideshow Welcome to

Just tested again with the latest daily-live iso from cdimage.ubuntu.com
and the issue is still occurring. Immediately after selecting Try
Ubuntu without installing from the CD boot menu the graphics cuts out
and the monitor can't detect any input signal on the VGA cable.

[Bug 908659] [NEW] VGA output fails on startup

2011-12-25 Thread Tomas Cassidy
Public bug reported:

Every time I boot into Ubuntu, the graphics fails after I select the
kernel option in grub. The system is running Ubuntu Server, so there's
no Xorg. I would have expected to have a basic VESA driver operating to
show the console output, since there's no fancy GUI stuff running.

I can get the graphics working if I select the recovery option in grub
and then select the default resume normal boot option (can't remember
the exact name of it) from the first recovery screen that appears.

I have also tried with the latest daily-live cd image for precise
(2011-12-25) and that gave the same result. I select the try ubuntu
without installing menu option from Unetbootin, and the graphics
immediately cuts out.

[Bug 799392] [NEW] MythTV Updates Repository is still enabled in GUI after distro upgrade

2011-06-19 Thread Tomas Cassidy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mythbuntu-control-centre

When I upgraded Mythbuntu from 10.10 to 11.04 all third-party sources
(including PPAs) were disabled, as per the standard practice of Ubuntu
upgrades. After the upgrade had completed, the option in Mythbuntu
Control Centre for the MythTV Updates Repository was still enabled.
This option should be disabled on distro upgrade to match the actual
state of the PPA in APT sources after the upgrade (disabled).

[Bug 697044] Re: Natty: calendarserver doesn't start

2011-05-16 Thread Tomas Cassidy
The problem here is that python2.7 files have been included in the main
calendarserver package, while previously the python2.6 files existed in
python-twisted-calendarserver. The web2 files from python-twisted-
calendarserver have not been upgraded to python 2.7 since Ubuntu
switched from python 2.6 to python 2.7.

[Bug 780523] [NEW] window title doesn't disappear after closing window/application

2011-05-10 Thread Tomas Cassidy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

After closing an application or window, the title doesn't disappear from
the top bar across the screen. If the window is maximized/fullscreen,
then the window buttons (close/minimise/maximise) also stay after the
window is closed. The title and window buttons disappear after clicking
on the desktop. This can be replicated every time.

1. Start firefox by clicking on button in the launcher that appears on the
left of screen.
2. Close firefox by clicking on the red [x].
3. Firefox window title (and optionally buttons if it was fullscreen) still
show up in the top bar.
4. Click anywhere on the Desktop. The title and buttons disappear.

[Bug 242274] Re: Options - change a value - Apply and Lingot Crashes

2011-02-27 Thread Tomas Cassidy
I recompiled lingot 0.9.0 on Ubuntu Natty and I couldn't get those segfaults to
appear.
I did manage to get a buffer overflow when setting the sample rate to
1150438151 in the preferences screen. The generated coredump of this was
1.9GB, so I won't be uploading that here. gdb log is attached, using the steps
from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace.

Changing the value of SAMPLE_RATE in lingot.conf back to 44100 allowed
lingot to start successfully. Maybe there should be some input
validation on the sample rate field in the preferences screen?

I couldn't test OSS because lingot said it couldn't find /dev/dsp. I'm
guessing that OSS is not installed.

[Bug 242274] Re: Options - change a value - Apply and Lingot Crashes

2011-02-22 Thread Tomas Cassidy
I just compiled lingot 0.9.0 on Ubuntu 10.10 with --enable-jack=no.

When I started for the first time, I received the following warnings in
alert/messageboxes:
The requested sample rate is not available, the real sample rate has been set
to 1520 Hz.
The temporal buffer is smaller than FFT size. It has been increased to 8.421
seconds.

When I opened the preferences dialog and clicked Cancel, I got a
segfault in the terminal output.

After restarting lingot, I got the warning The requested sample rate is
not available, the real sample rate has been set to 11347264 Hz.

I opened the preferences dialog and clicked Ok and got the following
terminal output:

Exiting core thread
duplicated message: The temporal buffer is smaller than FFT size. It has been
increased to inf seconds
Segmentation fault

Each time I start lingot, I get the same warnings appearing in
alert/messageboxes but with different values for the Hz and seconds numbers.
