[Bug 303838] Re: [needs-packaging] JMicroVision - Image analysis of very large images
** Description changed: URL: http://www.jmicrovision.com/ Description: JMicroVision was designed to describe, measure, quantify and classify components of all kinds of images. It has an intuitive user interface with powerful features and supports very large images (more than 1 GB, even with a computer with little memory). JMicroVision contains tools having various degrees of automation in order to handle with complex and varied images. Like a microscope, it enables a dynamic observation of a specimen with the possibility of combining various focus or modes of lighting (polarized light, fluorescence …). Moreover, the magnifying lens and the multiview tool allow a simultaneous view of several images, each one having its own zoom coefficient while keeping a joint position in the center. JMicroVision has been developed especially to analyze high definition images of rock thin sections, but it can easily be used in other domains. Main Features * Read images in TIFF, BMP, FlashPiX, GIF, JPEG, PNG, and PNM formats * Efficient visualization system * Quantify components: objects or background * Object analysis (size, shape, orientation, texture ...) * Object classification * Image processing (binary and morphology operations, filtering, segmentation...) * Image rectification (geometric corrections by control points) * Digital point counting * Tools for data collection in one or two dimensions * Image annotation and description card * Profile (variation of granulometry, density, objects or background) * Save all measures, data, calibration and preferences in a single project file Manual, Help files, and plugins are also available at http://www.jmicrovision.com/resources.htm Uses Java and works on Linux, Mac, Windows, and Solaris - License: freeware - see download files + Applications are diverse, and especially useful for microscope images, + e.g. medical, biology, geology, metallurgy, etc + + License: freeware - see download files and Help + http://www.jmicrovision.com/help/v125/jmicrovision.htm + + + SOFTWARE LICENSE AGREEMENT + + Copyright © 2002-2007 Nicolas Roduit + + IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ THIS AGREEMENT CAREFULLY BEFORE USING THE SOFTWARE. + End-user license agreement + + This End-User License Agreement is a legal agreement between you (an + individual or an entity) and Nicolas Roduit for the software product + JMicroVision, which includes computer software and electronic + documentation. [Bug 175992] Re: New QGIS versions with full Python support were released since 2007-10 - please update packages
Leo Thanks for the information on how to be currently able to use QGIS. This bug report was a package request for Ubuntu, which I understand is the method for requesting that a package be made available through Ubuntu's standard repositories. I see that the current means of access is at Launchpad's PPA, so hopefully the project there will progress from there through to inclusion in the standard Ubuntu repo. I use Feisty, which has QGIS available (through synaptic). But was a little concerned to see such a useful program get dropped. Programs like these could be very useful for local councils, farmers, etc. Is there a place where a complete list of packages can be viewed (at once), with columns (or rows) showing which versions of Ubuntu (and Debian?) they are included in? The Ubuntu packages search engine is good for doing checks on individual packages, but this method would be very tedious for getting the overall picture. Thank you. -- New QGIS versions with full Python support were released since 2007-10 - please update packages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/175992 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 177673] Re: [needs-packaging] ingen
From duplicate submission made 8 months later ; [needs-packaging] Ingen - modular audio processing system with GUI and plugins URL: http://drobilla.net/software/ingen/ Description: Ingen (formerly Om) is a modular audio processing system for GNU/Linux audio systems using the Jack audio server and LV2 or LADSPA plugins. Client/Server System - Ingen itself is (or can be, at least) an independent process with no user interface to speak of. All controlling of the engine is done via [OSC http://www.opensoundcontrol.org/what_is_osc/] - creating a patch, loading a plugin, connecting two ports, etc. Clients connect to the engine and can register to receive notification from the engine (again via OSC) of when things change. The key idea here is that many clients can connect to the engine at one time (even from multiple machines - collaborative modular synthesis!). Clients can come and go as they please, keep up to date with the engine status, etc. etc. Having no clients connected at all is perfectly okay (for situations like running on a headless machine for live performance, etc.) List of Free plugins available at http://dev.drobilla.net/wiki/FreePlugins (very good) It would be extra useful if some of the FreePlugins were made available as an extension kit for Ingen - but just hoping. == Ingen as a title means very little. [Bug 249751] Re: [needs-packaging] LVE - Linux Video Editor
An extract from the link https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4758502 includes the following; There is one big advantage of LVE, though: it has a real preview, i.e. you can watch the video you are about to edit, including sound. ProjextX allows for browsing throught the movie, but offers no preview/play possibility and doesn't play sound either. Furthermore LVE outputs a simple MPEG file whereas in ProjectX you have to use mplex (http://mjpeg.sourceforge.net) or similar tools for multiplexing the edited video (.m2v) and audio (.mpa) files together. No where on that page did it say that the project is dead. It is also dated as (2008-02-04) ; RE: (k)ubuntu 7.10 Install By: Jürgen Lange (lamprete) - 2008-02-04 12:38 so the link that has been exampled earlier (ie http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?forum_id=336768) shows there has been plenty of forum activity between then and well after that date. [Bug 249751] Re: [needs-packaging] LVE - Linux Video Editor
I did not ignore the first sentence - I emphasized the last (concluding) paragraph. The first sentence says ; there doesn't seem to be any support / further development on LVE :-( this does not state that the project Is dead, but merely speculates that it seems to not have any further support. Also, the emoticon conveys how sad the person is that is making the speculation. = You are quite correct (and I agree) - there Is a lot of spam! Time for a rinse out there. Most of the recent topics have jibberish titles, and submitted by nobody. They contain multiple links to non-relevant (to say the least) sites. Earlier spam postings used real words in their titles but soon changed to jibberish. Hi Samuel and/or Frederick J. Henderson, Can you explain why it is that the two package requests that were made 'before this one, have been labeled as duplicates of this one? (even though this latest one adds no new information than has already been submitted) How is it that you commented on #176278 on the 2008-08-19, having made this package request on the previous date of 2008-08-18, but have left it till 2008-11-09 to conclude that the previous requests are duplicates? (NB - there may be time differences of up to 24 hours for international times??) Frederick J. Henderson had marked #249657 as duplicate of #176278. Then 8 minutes later removed that duplicate report and changed #249657 to be a duplicate of #258917. And 1 minute after that set #176278 to also be a duplicate of #258917. [Bug 267353] Re: [needs-packaging] OpenMoko - System firmware for the Neo FreeRunner cellphone, GPS, Wifi, Bluetooth touch screen device
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 288747 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/288747 NeoTool is another (different?) product by Openmoko, which followed on from Qtopia. NeoTool appears to be refined for specific use with Phones (ie Neo FreeRunner). QTopia was originally developed by Trolltech, for the phones including Nokia phones. QTopia has been superseded, but not by NeoTool ; QTopia is now (as of 30 September 2008) called QT Extended - see ; 1) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qtopia 2) http://trolltech.com/products/device-creation/qt-extended/qt-extended-4.4-release A Quote from (2) above; What happened to Qtopia? - As a component of the transition from Trolltech to Nokia, we have consolidated the three Trolltech brands (Qt, Qtopia and Trolltech) into a single brand: Qt. In line with this, we have moved Qtopia into the Qt product family and given it a name that reflects the value it brings: Qt Extended. Qt Extended extends the functionality of QQt Logot for Embedded Linux. You will still find all the features and functionality of Qtopia Phone Edition and Qtopia Platform within the modules of Qt Extended. QTopia is made by Trolltech, and is available for a large range of phone devices, and other products. http://trolltech.com/products/device-creation So it looks like NeoTool is just a small subset of the QT embedded linux system for a whole range of devices. By all means get NeoTool added to the repositories, but please do not leave out the rest of the opportunities provided by QT Embedded (originally called QTopia) This QT product compares (competes?) with a proprietary company's CE product. If QT Extended is neglected from being added to linux (not just Ubuntu's) repos then it makes it more difficult for the product to be found out about, and used in applications. Notes - sources of additional applications; 1) Many Applications for the Neo FreeRunner can be found at; http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Applications 2) Many modules, plugins, development kits, etc for QT Extended at; http://trolltech.com/products/device-creation/embedded-linux and licensing (not for proprietary commercial use) http://trolltech.com/products/device-creation/licensing Please check again, for the degree of duplication between QTopia and and NeoTool. -- [needs-packaging] OpenMoko - System firmware for the Neo FreeRunner cellphone, GPS, Wifi, Bluetooth touch screen device https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/267353 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 274814] Re: [needs-packaging] mpg1394grab - DV Video (HD) Capture IEC 61883-4 from dv ieee1394 firewire port
Nice Link. Thanks Stefan. Does dvgrab work with previous version of Ubuntu before 8.04 or before kernel 2.6.23 ? The reason I ask is that backports are only done after there is a version made for the recent versions of Ubuntu. Backports (I am told by Launchpad) are not possible, if no package has been added in a more recent version. So if mpg1394, does not work in recent versions (but does in previous versions), then it will not be allowed to be made as a backport. But if dvgrab does not do the same job in previous versions, as mpg1394grab does, then previous version will miss out on the functionality. Note === There are some other useful utilities on that link which I am making some package requests for - e.g. DV4L I thought I had made a suggestion for a package that does something similar to this, but it doesn't show on a search of launchpad or ubuntu packages. This will be very handy because tehre are a number of good programs that use v4l but don't have (till these utilities) any way of using DV video. -- [needs-packaging] mpg1394grab - DV Video (HD) Capture IEC 61883-4 from dv ieee1394 firewire port https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/274814 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Most V4L applications run with both programs, some only with one of them. DV4Linux overcomes the following problems ; a) The main video API for Linux - Video4Linux or V4L - does not support any FireWire devices. You have to use one of those cheap USB webcams, even if you own a camcorder with a much better lens and higher framerates. b) Coriander is a tool to access FireWire cameras using the V4L API. Unfortunately, it works only with IIDC compatible cameras, not with camcorders. DV4Linux is not as fancy as Coriander, but provides a similar functionality for camcorders. License: GNU GPL see https://developer.berlios.de/projects/dv4l/ Note: Please make versions for all CPU architectures including AMD64 (good for multimedia). If dv4l has problems because of the kernel, then at least make dv4lstart, so there is some way to get DV firewire input into V4L. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: firewire ieee1394 needs-packaging video -- [needs-packaging] DV4Linux - DV firewire video for V4L https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/289792 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I notice a few other utilities on that link at ieee1394.wiki.kernel.org/index.php/Utilities#mpg1394grab which are not in the Repos, which I have made package requests for at launchpad. Most notably this can switch OHCI 1.0 versions of such cards to OHCI 1.1 support. In order to compile vt6307ohciver, you have to install libpci and its headers first. The necessary package is called something like pciutils- devel (Mandrake 10.1) or pciutils (Gentoo). To compile, use the command $ gcc vt6307ohciver.c -o vt6307ohciver -lpci (this works on Mandrake 10.1), or $ gcc vt6307ohciver.c -o vt6307ohciver -lpci -lz (this works on Gentoo). [Bug 178364] Re: [needs-packaging] SciDAVis
der_vegi That looks like an interesting project in its own right. But a look at the SciDAVis website shows that the SciDAVis project is alive and well and has plans to continue well into the future. No mention is made on the SciDAVis About page (Updated: 2008-09-09 21:44:04), of the project that is referred to on the forum you refer to. This would be a good place to mention the merging together with another project, but it doesn't; http://scidavis.sourceforge.net/about/index.html SciDAVis will very likely be around for a few years yet, because they have just brought out version 0.2, and have a road map laid out through to version 1.0 and beyond. http://scidavis.sourceforge.net/about/roadmap.html The visualization engine will get a revamp at version 0.5, but it doesn't mention labplot. So it looks like SciDAVis is not going to be obsolete, and is instead likely to become more important. Also the project you mention could be interesting to follow. SciDAVis version 0.3 will include modular-ization of the program, so that might make it easier to build plugins for the SciDAVis, or to integrate features of SciDAVis in other programs (something open source products could be especially good at doing). -- [needs-packaging] SciDAVis https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/178364 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 286706] [NEW] [needs-packaging] MidiShare - real-time musical MIDI operating system
Public bug reported: URL: http://midishare.sourceforge.net/ http://midishare.sourceforge.net/more.html Description: MidiShare has been designed in 1989 in response to problems commonly met in the development of realtime music software. It provides high level services to developers and ensures platform independence since it supports GNU/Linux, MacOS and Windows. MidiShare is a real-time musical MIDI operating system. Result of many years of research and development undertaken by Computer Music Research Laboratory of Grame, MidiShare provides high level services to the field of computer music and MIDI applications * High level musical events, fully structured and time stamped with a millisecond resolution. These events include both the MIDI and the MIDIFile typologies. In charge of the memory manager, they can be allocated at interrupt level. * An efficient scheduler, in charge of delivering events at their falling dates to the communication manager. The scheduling algorithm ensures a very low and constant time overhead per event, even when the scheduler is heavily loaded. * Inter-applications communication. A communication manager routes the events to the client applications, according to the connection set between them. This connection set can be dynamically configured by the users. * Real-time tasks, to control the real-time behavior of an application. Function calls can be scheduled in the future and are automatically achieved by MidiShare at interrupt level. * Real-time alarms. Incoming MidiShare events as well as global context changes (new clients starting a session, modifications of the connections between applications, etc.) can be processed in real-time by user defined alarms. [Bug 286716] [NEW] [needs-packaging] QPitch - musical instrument tuner using mic and oscilloscope plot
Public bug reported: URL: http://wspinell.altervista.org/qpitch/ Description: QPitch is a program to tune a musical instrument using your computer and its microphone or line-in input. It is designed to be completely cross-platform and works on Linux, Mac and Windows platforms. QPitch 1.0.1 is an offspring of K3Guitune 1.0. The layout of the GUI and the pitch detection algorithm are quite similar to the original ones, however the application has been rewritten almost from scratch to take advantage of the new features of Qt4 and to use the cross-platform PortAudio library. The FFT is performed using the FFTW library. The pitch detection algorithm is based on finding the first peak in the autocorrelation of the input signal. The method is quite reliable (even if a peak may also occur at sub-harmonics or harmonics leading to an erroneous pitch detection). The fundamental frequency used as a reference for pitch detection can be configured according to the user preferences. [Bug 241873] Re: System goes slow when updates are available
Thanks IanW for the questions. Would it be possible to put in place a procedure for admins to ask questions to help diagnosis, when a bug is marked incomplete - These kind of questions are very helpful to have early? It's a few days since the last similar event, but it will probably happen within the next week - I will try to drive to fail this way again. 1) I don't recall many situations recently when the computer has become totally hung, without there being an update icon present on reboot. Firefox usually has a number of windows open, with a number of tabs in each window. So I am not absolutely certain that it is totally due to the updater, but there is not much chance that the problem is unrelated to the updater. Q1) What should I be looking for in Syslog? re Does this ONLY happen when update-notifier is downloading? Firefox can slow the system down when lots of windows and tabs are open, and speed can be restored by closing a few tabs. But the system doesn't hang with firefox to the extent that there is no control - it just might be that the mouse response become intermittent. The system hang becomes unresponsive when there is no update icon showing - but the icon show on reboot. This suggests that the updater did not get as far as showing the icon before it hung the system. So the issue is not just ONLY happen when update-notifier is downloading but also if it has actually begun Downloading, or was just about to beging downloading, having been notified that downloads were available. re can it be reproduced by running Synaptic or 'sudo apt-get -d upgrade'? it's a while since I did some synaptic add programs with many firefox windows open, but I do recall there being some crashes if there were lots of firefox windows open. I could check if the crash could be avoided by disabling the update- notifier, but I think I'll do that after the next (forced) crash, so I can collect syslog data after the crash. 2) The system become totally unresponsive - mouse cursor does not move at all. Keyboard does nothing. Q2) How do I restart X without mouse or keyboard control? 3) I will track memory usage. Is there a recommended program - I'd like to keep a log of the last 7 days on memory usage at 30 minute intervals, and the last 5 hours at 5 minute intervals? Thanks for your help. I hope these answers are helpful. And soon hope to be able to provide syslog info, top, and memory usage info. -- System goes slow when updates are available https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/241873 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 271538] Re: [needs-packaging] EsiObjects - Mumps object oriented database compiler - used in banking and medical industries
Hi IanW, Thank you for the useful link for tags. I hadn't realized that tags was for specific use only, and was not meant to be used in the usual web sense of meta-tags which allows the use of relevant words. You may have seen that the words that I used in tags were helpful for very rapidly figuring out what the relevant topics were for the package being suggested (in the needs-packaging request). It would have been helpful to have been able to copy these across to the description or notes, before being deleted. The top of the page you have referred to at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Tags has the following statement This page is part of the Bug Squad's KnowledgeBase - pages with information about how to triage bugs. The knowledgebase referred to is at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BugSquad/KnowledgeBase This information appears to be taylored for the bug squad, and is not for the typical bug report user, for whom this page is overkill on extraneous information. Q1) In consideration of all the other people who submit bug reports (now and in future), can you please show which page they are expected to come across a link to this information, in the course of learning how to make a bug report. If a page for bug report users is not available with the information for tags use on it, then it would be helpful to have one. Furthermore - it would be extremely useful to have a link to it from the bug report page. There is little point to having thou shalt nots if the people can't find out about them in obvious places. For example No parking signs get placed at the side of the road - nobody puts a sign inside the shop saying you shouldn't have parked outside while at the same time refusing to place a sign outside on the street. [Bug 285271] [NEW] [needs-packaging] bigFORTH - FORTH programming language with Minos GUI
Public bug reported: URL: http://www.jwdt.com/~paysan/bigforth.html Description: bigFORTH is a native code Forth. It is available for Linux and Windows 2000/XP under GPL. The most striking feature is the graphical user interface MINOS (GUI in Forth) and the form editor Theseus (Theseus is still beta). These are the other features of bigFORTH: * Powerful compiler: bigFORTH is a 32 bit system. The compiler generates optimized native code for the i386. You can create turnkey applications for sure. bigFORTH fully complies to ANS Forth. * Versatile tools: multitasker; source-able decompiler; source level debugger (even using optimized macros) with single step and trace, as many breakpoints as you want; post mortem dump and return stack trace; Pentium-MMX-assembler/disassembler... * Editor: multi-window editor for screen- and stream-files. * Extensive libraries: extensive and comfortable file interface (with definitions for the most common Unix commands) ease work even on a big hard disk. System calls and linkage to dynamic libraries are supported. Printer support for listings and session protocols; fast and accurate FP-arithmetics, a state of the art memory management, that doesn't capitulate from complex memory structures, graphical user interface (MINOS GUI), object oriented Forth and more... * Transparency: All sources, including kernel and target compiler in the standard distribution, give the Forth wizard everything they want. * Modular Forth: bigFORTH is modulary. Separate compilation is possible, small applications are easy to create. Modules have no arbitrary limit in size. License: available as GPL or Commercial which ever way you want to use it. MINOS is available under the GPL, not the LGPL. I want to stress that this means you cannot develop applications with it that are not either under the GPL, or distributed seperately as sources, just as with other GPLed libraries (for example, readline). For people wanting to develop applications with it that are under different licencing conditions, a [html]commercial licence is available at request so that MINOS can be a choice for proprietary systems, too. I'll certainly give major contributors a fair share. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: needs-packaging -- [needs-packaging] bigFORTH - FORTH programming language with Minos GUI https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/285271 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 285275] [NEW] [needs-packaging] kForth - Forth programming language, embeddable in other programs
Public bug reported: URL: http://ccreweb.org/software/kforth/kforth.html Description: kForth is a computer program that may be used in various ways: 1. It may be used as a calculator. 2. It may be used to run computer programs written in the Forth language. 3. Both integer and floating point calculations may be performed. Trigonometric and transcendental functions are provided. In addition, logic and bit operations may be performed, and the number base may be changed, i.e. numbers may be entered and displayed in hexadecimal (base 16) for example. kForth is an implementation of the Forth programming language and environment. The user may write Forth programs with an ordinary text editor, load these program files from kForth, and run them. kForth, like other implementations of Forth, provides an interactive environment, allowing the user to examine or define variables and execute or define individual words. There are many advantages in using a Forth environment for writing and testing computer programs. kForth provides a significant subset of the ANS specification for the Forth language. It also provides some extensions and non-standard features which its authors have found to be useful. Experienced Forth users should consult the Technical Information section of the User's Guide for specific information on the differences between kForth and standard ANS Forth. [Bug 241873] Re: System goes slow when updates are available
1) Yes this is still very much an issue. I have since found that sometimes the system comes to a complete stop. And when I reboot, the icon to show there are new updates available for download is showing. 2) I am not currently willing to upgrade to another version of Ubuntu. I have got Feisty working well enough. But it had problems with sound, and firewire port access, just about every upgrade since breezy. And I do not want to go through the diagnosis/research/repair process (the research is the time consumer). Plus the more recent versions have increased hardware requirements, which I do not want to have to worry about. So if you want me to upgrade to somehow help diagnose the cause of this problem, or if it is a known fix for the problem, then the chances of that happening are not great in the near future. 3) But if you have some questions as to what else may help isolate the problem, diagnose, or run some tests, or try some fixes, then I Am willing. 4) I will update some additional information the the actual bug report. 5) Can somebody let me know why the bug report has been marked as incomplete, and please let me know what is required to get the bug diagnosis process going? Thank you. -- System goes slow when updates are available https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/241873 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

** Description changed: The system seems to go slow when updates are available for download, but - haven't been downloaded and installed yet - PC been on continuously for - over 2 to 5 days + haven't been downloaded and installed yet - especially if the PC has + been on continuously for over 2 to 5 days - Is the system going into some sort of loop while to wait for something - which doesn't happen, and it spends a lot of time waiting there. + Is the system going into some sort of loop while it waits for something + which doesn't happen, and then it spends a lot of time waiting there. - Maybe waiting for a non-existant confirmation to download. + Maybe waiting for a non-existent confirmation to download. + + Sometimes the system will completely stop. so then a hardware reset is used to restart it. the reboot then shows that icon for updates, which may not have been visible just before the hang. + This suggests that the update system causes the problem at some stage through the notification process before the icon gets displayed. the current settings on this pc are notify of downloads, but not to even start downloading them without permission. + + In just about all cases there are numerous windows and tabs of Firefox + open, and often Thunderbird email is open. [Bug 283013] [NEW] [needs-packaging] ProjectX - transcode video to streams
Public bug reported: URL: http://www.lucike.info/ Description: In digital television systems, the tvpicture is compressed before it's broadcasted and then it is sent as digital datastream (MPEG2) Transport Stream. The MPEG2 Transport Stream is part of the MPEG2 standard family, but it has to be converted before it can be processed, because the structure of a is MPEG2 Transport Stream different to other MPEG2 streams. The Project X program can do this and so much more. The Project X program works in a way similar to that of an MPEG2 TS hardware decoder, with the decomposed Project X MPEG2 transport stream into its components (MPEG elementary streams - video, audio and other data). When you disconnect the MPEG2 transport stream also at fault in the stream reviewed and synchronized. When converting finds only a rough check. It will transport stream formats (both single-and multiple-TS and PS): * DVB MPEG2 transport stream (DVB MPEG2 TS), MPTS (Multiple Program Transport Stream) * Packet Video Audio (PVA, PSV, PSA, PAV) * Program Stream MPEG (MPEG1 / 2 HP) * Linux Video Disc Recorder (Linux VDR) * Packetized Elementary Stream (PES RAW Streams) * Elementary Stream (ES Streams) Project X is a free education and testing project and is based on the Java programming language. It's great for making CDs to listen to in your car, or to play background music on your computer. VLevel is currently a LADSPA plugin and a command-line filter. You can use it with many Linux audio programs including XMMS, GStreamer, GLAME, GDAM, and others, and you can use it in shell scripts to level your music before burning a CD. Public bug reported: URL: http://mjpg-streamer.wiki.sourceforge.net/ Description: MJPG-streamer, is a command line application to stream JPEG files over an IP-based network from the webcam to a viewer like Firefox, Cambozola, Videolanclient, a Windows Mobile device or mobilephone that has a webbrowser. It can make use of hardware compression of certain webcams, in order to reduce CPU cycles of the server. [Bug 282467] [NEW] [needs-packaging] QPitch - cross-platform musical instrument tuner using microphone
The estimated pitch is displayed on a note scale graphic, while the input signal and the autocorrelation function are displayed using an oscilloscope-like plot. [Bug 282470] [NEW] [needs-packaging] Ingen - modular audio processing system with GUI and plugins
Public bug reported: URL: http://drobilla.net/software/ingen/ Description: Ingen (formerly Om) is a modular audio processing system for GNU/Linux audio systems using the Jack audio server and LV2 or LADSPA plugins. Clients can come and go as they please, keep up to date with the engine status, etc. etc. Having no clients connected at all is perfectly okay (for situations like running on a headless machine for live performance, etc.) List of Free plugins available at http://dev.drobilla.net/wiki/FreePlugins (very good) License: GNU GPL ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: audio multimedia needs-packaging -- [needs-packaging] Ingen - modular audio processing system with GUI and plugins https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/282470 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 271562] Re: [needs-packaging] StageLight Basic - a DMX512 stage lighting device controller and interface
Thank you for the suggestion Chris. Welcome to you joining of the Bug Squad last month. 1a) re packaging Before now, I have been looking for, and finding some information for how to do packaging. e.g. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PackagingGuide/Complete I have watched a few videos (Daniel Holbach). I was even looking at how to do packaging even before I realized that needs-packaging request system on launchpad existed. How ever, I am not sure that I have learned enough, or that what I have learned is what I need to know. I am interested in doing packaging at launchpads PPA, where it is possible to generate packages for various CPU architectures. Another advantage of PPA for me is that it is a standardized way to do it, and I don't have to do any further research to gather a kit together to do it - as there appear to be several alternative methods/programs, for each step, and different ways of setting up one's own PC to do it.. 1b) MOTU team - multimedia https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MOTU/Teams/Media Their page has the following statement; Try to get every package we find in the web to get included into Ubuntu's repository where possible. Our goal is to provide YOU with as many multimedia related software as possible. I believe that this MOTU team would benefit from and appreciate, the work that I have done submitting needs-packaging bug requests, because a significant percentage of the requests are for multimedia programs. e.g. this one for handling stage lighting. Topics have included GUI front ends for transcoders, video editors, audio editors, capture programs, voip programs, speech related programs, graphics, 3D image and information, medical imaging systems, 2D and 3D CAD (BRL Cad is exceptionally good), and more. But there are other MOTU teams who (I imagine) would be interested in getting (asap) the other needs-packaging bug requests I have supplied. 1c) An improvement to the needs-packaging system would be if the submitter could suggest a category for the program, which would help direct the request to the appropriate MOTU team, whose expertise would be most suited to assessing the request, and processing it speedily. I have tried to make this easier for the bug triagers, by using related words in the tags field of the needs-packaging submission. But sometimes, somebody sees fit to remove them (and usually doesn't explain why). 2a) more that I am thinking of helping with - backports I would also like to do backports, so programs can run on older versions of Ubuntu on machinery which is a few years old. But apart from issues with confidence (which is not always helped with this bug system), I do not think that packaging is part of my current skill base, and would prefer to avoid risk of (further) trouble by making sure I am quite familiar with procedures/processes and am well practiced (having done some example exercises), before I begin a foray into packaging. 2b) more that I am thinking of helping with - bug handling https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BugSquad https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BugSquad/KnowledgeBase https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Responses https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-bugcontrol/+members 3) Insecure lifestyle prevents me from long term commitments, so I can only help with short term activities. If I possessed the skill to do packaging, then I Would be doing packaging. What would be nice, would be if some of the people that elected to package the programs that I have suggested, would invite me and guide me through their packaging process, so i can learn and be certain. Also since there are a number of programs on similar topics, it might be fun to start more MOTU or PPA groups to handle several related packages at once. Some new MOTU groups might be started for topics like - library programs, CAD, groupware, CRM, electronic commerce, firewire (audio/video/network/monitoring/security), and more. It may not require more packagers, just that the current packagers can form groups to share the specific expertise in these areas - And it might help with the mentoring/apprentice activities in the specific areas. Thank you for you help, and encouraging impetus. -- [needs-packaging] StageLight Basic - a DMX512 stage lighting device controller and interface https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/271562 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
