[Bug 1686254] Re: OpenVPN auto-connect options greyed out or missing for no reason

2022-03-09 Thread Valerio Bozzolan
Going to the single VPN, I also once saw the "Automatically connect to
VPN" menu grayed out and not selectable.

Then I realized that you have to go to another normal connection (e.g.
wired, Wi-Fi, etc) and select "General configuration" > "Automatically
connect to VPN".

vpn-with-network-manager

2022-01-12 Thread Valerio Bozzolan
Just here to say that this fix by inugami-mamoru (#9) worked well:

sudo apt install libserialport0 patchelf
sudo patchelf --add-needed /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libserialport.so.0
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/liblistSerialsj.so.1.4.0

[Bug 1839752] Re: Ethernet did'nt wake up after suspend

2021-12-15 Thread Valerio Bozzolan
The previous service is awesome but it can be improved to cover
hibernation and hybrid-hibernation as well:

# /etc/systemd/system/fix-r8169.service

```
After=suspend.target
[Bug 330833] Re: NetworkManager always overwrites default route when connecting to OpenVPN network
2020-12-14 Thread Valerio Bozzolan
I also can reproduce this issue with NetworkManager of Ubuntu 20.04
Focal Fossa (network-manager 1.22.10-1ubuntu2.2).
If I create an OpenVPN server WITHOUT 'redirect-gateway' and if I use
the command line OpenVPN client directly as-is, it works. It does NOT
create a new default gateway (because I do not want it).
/usr/sbin/openvpn --config file.ovpn
Instead. If I import that configuration in Network Manager, the "use
this connection only for resources on this network" is unchecked and
probably that's the cause of the creation of a new additional default
route, wrong for these cases.
Any plan about how to fix this issue in NetworkManager?
[Bug 1788520] [NEW] multiple boot problems if /usr is on a logical volume
2018-08-22 Thread valerio
Public bug reported:
xubuntu 18.04.1
After standard installation with LVM, I created further LVs, namely for
/usr, /var, /tmp and /home.
The boot delays about 30 seconds waiting for /usr, this delay is caused by
wait-for-root.
Also, the /usr volume can not be defined by its label in fstab, it fails to
find it at boot time.
It seems both problem are caused because wait-for-root is called before
the /usr LV is activated, adding "vgchange -a y" in "init" just before
calling mountfs for /usr allows the boot to complete if /usr is defined
by its label, and eliminates the delay if it is pointed by the
/dev/mapper/ device.
[Bug 486296] Re: Evolution Mail is showing unsubscribed folders for an account.
2018-01-02 Thread Valerio Bozzolan
Just discovered this Evolution account option to be checked:
* Right click on your account name in the sidebar > Properties
* Go under the "Receiving Option" tab
* Check the "Show only the subscribed folders"
The author of this bug can confirm this solution?
[Bug 486296] Re: Evolution Mail is showing unsubscribed folders for an account.
2018-01-02 Thread Valerio Bozzolan
It affects Evolution 3.22.6.
As reported, the sidebar shows every folder, even unsubscribed folders.
The expected behavior should be to don't show unsubscribed folders from
the sidebar.
[Bug 1713968] [NEW] package grub-pc 2.02~beta3-4ubuntu2.2 failed to install/upgrade: il pacchetto si trova in uno stato di inconsistenza grave: è necessario installarlo nuovamente prima di rimuoverlo
2017-08-30 Thread Valerio
i had problems to upgrade system and programs for this bug (with a red
circle error near wifi icon). Then i think to have solved with these
three commands : " sudo apt- get update ", " sudo apt-get upgrade " , "
sudo apt-get install -f ", and the error disappeared. Then i put the
command : apt-get autoremove, and while removing the system gave me
again this error messsage and the possibility to send it to you (but I
still don't have anymore the red circle error on the up-right corner,
and the system and programs upgrade works).
[Bug 1538040] Re: Internal Hard drive extremely slow unless using barrier=0 on ext4
2016-03-06 Thread Valerio
apport information
** Tags added: apport-collected
** Description changed:
  I have a brand new laptop (Asus N551VW, i7-6700HQ, 16 Gb ram) on which i
  installed Ubuntu 14.04 64bit and a new Samsung SSD 850 PRO 512Gb (latest
  firmware). I installed the default MySql 5.6.27 on the machine but I
  noticed a very VERY slow performance of the database (just creating a db
  and executing some migrations without any data takes around 33 seconds
  while on lower-hardware co-workers notebooks it takes like 3 seconds).
  Every sql statement seems to spend most time in "system lock" state, as
  i could see with a SHOW PROCESSLIST.
  I thought it to be an hard drive issue, but executing the hard drive
  benchmark in Ubuntu gives 500 Mb/s read and 350 Mb/s write speed, which
  looks mostly normal.
  I also tried updating to the new 4.2 kernel, but the issue still there.
  To make an experiment, i cloned the ssd on a normal hard drive, switched
  it in and connected the SSD externally with an usb box. I moved mysql
[Bug 1538040] [NEW] Internal Hard drive extremely slow unless using barrier=0 on ext4
2016-01-26 Thread Valerio
Public bug reported:
I have a brand new laptop (Asus N551VW, i7-6700HQ, 16 Gb ram) on which i
installed Ubuntu 14.04 64bit and a new Samsung SSD 850 PRO 512Gb (latest
firmware). I installed the default MySql 5.6.27 on the machine but I
noticed a very VERY slow performance of the database (just creating a db
and executing some migrations without any data takes around 33 seconds
while on lower-hardware co-workers notebooks it takes like 3 seconds).
Every sql statement seems to spend most time in "system lock" state, as
i could see with a SHOW PROCESSLIST.
I thought it to be an hard drive issue, but executing the hard drive
benchmark in Ubuntu gives 500 Mb/s read and 350 Mb/s write speed, which
looks mostly normal.
I also tried updating to the new 4.2 kernel, but the issue still there.
To make an experiment, i cloned the ssd on a normal hard drive, switched
it in and connected the SSD externally with an usb box. I moved mysql
data directory to the external disk, and retried the db creation: it
took only 2.5 seconds.
Just out of curiosity i tried the same operation on an internal non-ssd
disk: when the hd is plugged inside the laptop with sata, the database
creation takes more than 2 minutes, while with the data dir on external
usb (with the same physical disk) it took less than 10 seconds.
To make it short, after some research, adding barrier=0 to the mount
options of the root drive with no other modification caused the same
script to take 1.5 seconds instead of 33, with a 22x increase in
performance.
I have opened his bug on askubuntu
(http://askubuntu.com/questions/725182/ssd-extremely-slow-when-connected-with-internal-sata-ok-with-external-usb
 ) and it was suggested that this coud be an issue of the controller
firmware/driver.
The problem is present both in trusty's default kernel (3.19.0-47.53) and in
the 4.2 (4.2.0-25.30).
Let me know if you need more informations!
[Bug 1384973] Re: shim prints "Booting in insecure mode" when booting without SecureBoot enabled
2015-05-24 Thread valerio
In my setup, Asus Vivo PC vc60 dual boot with Windows 8.1, I have met this
problem since I upgraded kubuntu from 14.04 to 15.04. Today I have tried to
play with shim package and UEFI settings, finally I got rid of the message. I
have done a lot of things, so this protocol might be redundant or wrong in some
part, but you can try if you wish so. Uninstalling shim doesn't change anything
in the boot message. so I went to UEFI options:
- Changing the UEFI settings seems to work in this way: Secure Boot -> Windows
UEFI enabled + Key Management -> Clear secure boot keys
- Pay attention that the UEFI chooses the right boot loader order in Boot
option priorities: there are two options to boot Ubuntu (they are grub related
options) and I have experimented both, plus some options to boot directly into
Windows (I suppose you are not considering these).
- I reinstalled shim and updated grub, after that no more insecure Boot message.
System can boot in kubuntu (my custom packaged 4.0.4 kernel and the 3.19.0
stock kernel) and in W8.1 without warnings and wasting time.
[Bug 1445888] [NEW] gnome-screenshot keyboard shortcut doesn't works on multiple screens
2015-04-19 Thread Valerio
Public bug reported:
When multiple displays are attached via HDMI, the shortcuts for taking
screenshots don't work.
The keyboard shortcuts still works when all but one screen are removed.
1)I'm using Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 64bit.
2)Gnome-screenshot package is 3.10.1-0ubuntu1 .
3)it's expected that the shortcut for taking a screenshot works. Example: print
or shift+print
It does work when only one display is attached.
4)when pressing shortcut keys nothing happens
Screenshots on multiple screens are still available by launching
"Screenshot" app, but it would be better to be able to use the
shortcuts.
Same here, on Trusty.
Every time i use a keyboard shortcut (like Ctrl+Z/X/C/V) in gedit the cursor
disappears and starts flckering when moved.
I noticed that pressing Alt and showing up the HUD, the cursor goes back to
normal
[Bug 1194305] [NEW] Joystick Trust 16784 detected on js0 but unresponsive
2013-06-24 Thread Valerio
Public bug reported:
On Ubuntu 13.04
Trust 16784 joystick is detected on /dev/input/js0, but if i cat it i don't get
any input (this is a simple way to test an input device: if pressing buttons
you see scrambled characters, it works). Also, any calibration program detects
it but can't get any axis or button.
After connecting it, the leds start to blink. Pressing the home button makes
them steady, but nothing changes. That's to show the device is turned on.
On Windows it works normally.
Tried it on Asus X501A laptop, both on usb2 and usb3 port.
I'm using latest xserver-xorg-input-joystick (1:1.6.1-1build1) and latest
kernel (3.8.0-25.37), with every joystick-related package installed.
I attached some informations on this device
[Bug 388547] Re: Volume keys don't work inside a full-screen game
2012-09-12 Thread Valerio
There is a workaround for this. I used to use this on Debian with a
small set of packages.
Using acpid and amixer one can set an acpid rule to react at volume keys at a
deeper level than the default sound daemon.
Use acpi_listen to discover your key codes and write a script like this (for
example when pressing volume up):
amixer set Master 5+
This is more ALSA related, but pulseaudio will adjust its volume as well.
[Bug 878262] [NEW] Latex toolbar does not disappear if editing a non-latex file
2011-10-19 Thread Valerio
Public bug reported:
Context:
GEdit 3.x (3.2 actually) and gedit-latex-plugin (3.3.1, i.e. the only one
compatible with GEdit 3.x).
Symptoms:
The Latex Toolbar does not disappear if editing a non-latex file, namely a file
whose extension is not in the list [.tex, .sty, .Rnw].
In particular, all the buttons of the toolbar disappear but the toolbar
placeholder remains visibile.
This not happens if the edited file has no extension (i.e. its name does
not ends with *.something*)
Solution:
Please find the solution in the patch in attachment :)
The problem (imho) is in the file *windowactivatable.py* located in
/usr/lib/gedit/plugins/latex/ - Line 418
The toolbar is shown if the file has *some-extension*, regardless what it
actually is!
I've simply solved by checking that the file extension in *latex_extensions*
(Btw, the latex_extensions variable is initialized and never used..) ;)
All the best guys
** Affects: gedit-latex-plugin (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
  Not sure if this is to be considered a Firefox or X bug. If I open a
  html file with some big font in it, like the one attached, as I start
  scrolling up-down and left-right around the page the X process start
  eating memory so fast that in few seconds the kernel starts OOM killing,
  or it pages so violently it takes ages to kill X even using Alt -SysRq
  -k. I've 3Gb of physical memory and gets filled in a matter of seconds.
  If you manage to kill firefox in time X does not release the memory.
  I consider this a really serious problem, and do not know whether is an
  X or firefox problem. With chrome everything is ok.
[Bug 411210] [NEW] Installation doesn't create link to firefox plugin folder
2009-08-09 Thread Valerio Bruno
Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: adobe-flashplugin
When installing adobe-flashplugin package no link is created to browsers
plugin directories!
if you want adobe-flashplugin to work with firefox you have to
(symbolic) link it to firefox plugin folder:
sudo ln -s /usr/lib/adobe-flashplugin/libflashplayer.so /usr/lib
/firefox-addons/plugins/libflashplayer.so
I use Ubuntu hardy 8.04
