[Bug 1579190] Re: Key 5 automatically pressed on some Logitech wireless keyboards
Hi Tim Passingham (tim-8aw3u04umo), you are not using the patched kernel. The patched is: 4.4.0-22-generic #40+lp1579190 And you are using: 4.4.0-24 What might have happened is that you installed the patched kernel and then you updated Ubuntu and 4.4.0-24 was installed and set as the default kernel. So after you restarted your machine your OS is not running the patched kernel any more. To run the patched kernel you either have to modify the default kernel in the GRUB configuration or explicitly choose the patched kernel on startup. BTW, I'm running 4.4.0-22-generic #40+lp1579190 since few days without any issues. [Bug 1575354] Re: Can't connect to VPN with openconnect through the GUI
Greetings, I successfully (accidentally) caught and reproduced the issue. All the commands were run as regular non-root user. 1.) So what I first did is: ### $ nmcli con up VPN-NAME A password is required to connect to 'VPN-NAME'. Warning: password for 'vpn.secrets.gateway' not given in 'passwd-file' and nmcli cannot ask without '--ask' option. Error: Connection activation failed: no valid VPN secrets. ### What happened here is that the graphical credentials form showed up. I started to type in my PIN and then opened the RSA app on my phone started to type in the TOKEN and meanwhile I got this error (you see above): "Error: Connection activation failed: no valid VPN secrets." 2.) Then I got suspicions. Waited for the next TOKEN, typed the PIN and TOKEN into a text file, ran the same command, immediately copy pasted the PIN+TOKEN from the text file and it worked. ### $ nmcli con up VPN-NAME A password is required to connect to 'VPN-NAME'. Warning: password for 'vpn.secrets.gateway' not given in 'passwd-file' and nmcli cannot ask without '--ask' option. VPN connection successfully activated (D-Bus active path: /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/ActiveConnection/3) ### 3.) + 4.) I reproduced the same steps from the graphical interface with the same results. So I was finally able to log in from gnome network app by being quick enough with the prepared credentials. Please note that I never used the --ask option. It pretty much seems that this is a timeout issue, NM times out while waiting for the credentials too early, if you are quick enough you are able to log in though. I also removed and reinstalled those packages from the 16.04 repo and restarted network manager: ii libopenconnect5:amd64 7.06-2build2 amd64open client for Cisco AnyConnect VPN - shared library ii network-manager-openconnect 1.0.2-1build1 amd64network management framework (OpenConnect plugin) ii network-manager-openconnect-gnome 1.0.2-1build1 amd64network management framework (OpenConnect plugin GNOME GUI) ii openconnect 7.06-2build2 amd64open client for Cisco AnyConnect VPN And it still keeps working. [Bug 1575354] Re: Can't connect to VPN with openconnect through the GUI
Why is this bug incomplete? What additional information do you need? I'm happy to provide you anything I'm able to to get this fixed. This is a critical bug (at least for me) that destroys productivity and prevents users to do daily work on Linux. And the most annoying thing is that this was working for several years (at least 5) mostly properly and now it just doesn't. It seems that this is a Linux specific issue as no one is complaining about this issue under Windows, but a couple of people are complaining for different versions of Ubuntu. It is always 5 and WladyXX3740 claims on the Logitech forum that: "happens on Ubuntu 15.10 and 16.04, does not happen on Ubuntu 15.04, probably kernel related." Here is where most of the people are complaining: https://forums.logitech.com/t5/Keyboards-and-Keyboard-Mice/Ubuntu-15-10-and-K520-key-5-automatically-pressed-resulting-in/td-p/1488639 I discovered that this is related to my Logitech keyboard by running this command: xinput test-xi2 --root Here is the device list: ⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2[master pointer (3)] ⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointerid=4[slave pointer (2)] ⎜ ↳ Logitech K520 id=10 [slave pointer (2)] ⎜ ↳ Logitech M310/M310t id=11 [slave pointer (2)] ⎜ ↳ AlpsPS/2 ALPS DualPoint Stick id=15 [slave pointer (2)] ⎜ ↳ AlpsPS/2 ALPS DualPoint TouchPad id=14 [slave pointer (2)] ⎣ Virtual core keyboard id=3[master keyboard (2)] ↳ Virtual core XTEST keyboard id=5[slave keyboard (3)] ↳ Integrated_Webcam_HD id=12 [slave keyboard (3)] ↳ Sleep Button id=9[slave keyboard (3)] ↳ Video Bus id=7[slave keyboard (3)] ↳ Power Button id=6[slave keyboard (3)] ↳ AT Translated Set 2 keyboard id=13 [slave keyboard (3)] ↳ Power Button id=8[slave keyboard (3)] ↳ DELL Wireless hotkeys id=16 [slave keyboard (3)] ↳ Dell WMI hotkeys id=17 [slave keyboard (3)] And some extract from the output when this happens: EVENT type 2 (KeyPress) device: 10 (10) detail: 14 flags: root: 449.00/427.00 event: 449.00/427.00 buttons: modifiers: locked 0x10 latched 0 base 0 effective: 0x10 group: locked 0 latched 0 base 0 effective: 0 valuators: windows: root 0xf6 event 0xf6 child 0x36000f8 EVENT type 12 (PropertyEvent) property: 308 'Synaptics Off' changed: modified EVENT type 2 (KeyPress) device: 10 (10) detail: 14 flags: repeat root: 449.00/427.00 event: 449.00/427.00 buttons: modifiers: locked 0x10 latched 0 base 0 effective: 0x10 group: locked 0 latched 0 base 0 effective: 0 valuators: windows: root 0xf6 event 0xf6 child 0x36000f8 EVENT type 2 (KeyPress) device: 10 (10) detail: 14 flags: repeat root: 449.00/427.00 event: 449.00/427.00 buttons: modifiers: locked 0x10 latched 0 base 0 effective: 0x10 group: locked 0 latched 0 base 0 effective: 0 valuators: windows: root 0xf6 event 0xf6 child 0x36000f8 EVENT type 2 (KeyPress) device: 10 (10) detail: 14 flags: repeat root: 449.00/427.00 event: 449.00/427.00 buttons: modifiers: locked 0x10 latched 0 base 0 effective: 0x10 group: locked 0 latched 0 base 0 effective: 0 valuators: windows: root 0xf6 event 0xf6 child 0x36000f8 EVENT type 2 (KeyPress) device: 10 (10) detail: 14 flags: repeat root: 449.00/427.00 event: 449.00/427.00 buttons: modifiers: locked 0x10 latched 0 base 0 effective: 0x10 group: locked 0 latched 0 base 0 effective: 0 valuators: windows: root 0xf6 event 0xf6 child 0x36000f8 EVENT type 2 (KeyPress) device: 10 (10) detail: 14 flags: repeat root: 449.00/427.00 event: 449.00/427.00 buttons: modifiers: locked 0x10 latched 0 base 0 effective: 0x10 group: locked 0 latched 0 base 0 effective: 0 valuators: windows: root 0xf6 event 0xf6 child 0x36000f8 ... Christopher M. [Bug 1520970] [NEW] light-locker switches disabled screen on (when used with xfce)
Public bug reported: So what happens is light-locker switches the screen that was disabled in xfce on and leaves it on after login. To reproduce: Desktop environment is Xfce (Xubuntu) with lightdm and light-locker. 1.) Attach an external display to a laptop and configure the DE to only use external display. Laptop display will be powered off and only the external display will be on. 2.) Now lock your screen using the Whisker Menu or wait until the xfce4-power-manager locks it. Now both screens are powered off. 3.) Try to log in (hit any key on the keyboard or move the mouse). Now both displays are switched on and the login prompt is displayed on both of the (with the resolution of the bigger so looks strange on the built in display). 4.) After you are logged in the built in display that was powered off before locking the screen is on (it does not display anything as it was disabled in xfce). It is blank (black) but you can see that the backlight is on. I'm not sure if light-locker shouldn't switch on the disabled screen and respect DE display configuration or if xfce4-power-manager should take care of shutting down the disabled display again after login. ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 15.10 Package: light-locker (not installed) ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.2.0-18.22-generic 4.2.3 Uname: Linux 4.2.0-18-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.19.1-0ubuntu5 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: GNOME Date: Sun Nov 29 19:30:01 2015 SourcePackage: light-locker UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to wily on 2015-10-22 (37 days ago) ** Affects: light-locker (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug wily -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1520970 Title: light-locker switches disabled screen on (when used with xfce) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/light-locker/+bug/1520970/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1521000] [NEW] xfce4-display-settings is also triggered when no new display is connected
Public bug reported: Xfce does not remember display settings for a specific display like for example Gnome does. So if you don't want to click around in the menu every time when a new display is connected you have to set "Configure new displays when connected" in xfce4-display-settings. This is fine as this brings up a nice menu from which you can quickly select the desired setting. The problem with the "Configure new displays when connected" setting is that it unfortunately also triggers xfce4-display-settings on other events like plugging your laptop on the charger or waking it up from hibernation. To reproduce: 1.) Configure the mentioned setting in xfce4-display-settings. 2.) Suspend your laptop. 3.) Wake up your laptop and log in. 4.) You will see that the xfce4-display-settings window is displayed. An additional problem is that the triggering mechanism does not recognize that an instance (window) of xfce4-display-settings is already running. So if you wake up your laptop, plug it on the charger and connect an external display and after that log in, you will have 3 xfce4-display-settings (windows) in front of you which is not that awesome. [Bug 1509867] Re: docker network connection only working after daemon restart
It seems that the issue is that the route to the docker network namespace does not exist after the OS starts up, so this rule is missing on my desktop: 172.17.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.0.0 U 0 00 docker0 Because this is missing packages that would target the container go instead of the NS network to the default gateway. The problem might be that docker first tries to add the bridge and then the route. When docker first starts it creates the docker0 interface and this does not get deleted when you stop and start or restart docker. But if you stop docker and explicitly remove the interface and the bridge you will see that the route is not added on startup. To reproduce. 1.) Restart machine. 2.) After the OS restart docker network is not working (route is missing). 3.) Restart docker service. 4.) Docker network is working again. 5.) Stop docker service 6.) Run: ip link set docker0 down; brctl delbr docker0; brctl show; ip link show 7.) Start docker. 8.) After docker start docker network is not working (route is missing). 9.) Restart docker. 10.) Route gets added and everything is fine. This is what I have been able to figure out so far. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1509867 Title: docker network connection only working after daemon restart To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/docker.io/+bug/1509867/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

After checking I saw that the related environment variables have values similar to this: SSH_AGENT_PID=1758 SSH_AUTH_SOCK=/tmp/ssh-q8UkJJDzaYfg/agent.1694 Instead of SSH_AGENT_PID=1678 SSH_AUTH_SOCK=/run/user/1000/keyring/ssh It seems that after the upgrade these variables started to have the values belonging to /usr/bin/ssh-agent /usr/bin/im-launch /usr/lib/gnome-flashback/gnome-flashback-metacity instead of the ones belonging to /usr/bin/gnome-keyring-daemon --daemonize --login The strange thing is that when I realized this I restarted my computer and after that the variables had the right values. Although I restarted my desktop several times since then and was not able to reproduce the "good" behavior. So I would expect to have the values belonging to gnome-keyring in those environment variables instead of the ones I currently have as gnome- keyring automatically asks for password and adds ssh keys and the simple agent doesn't. [Bug 1320634] Re: The "blacklisted-media-players" key doesn't work
I think that this bug is not low importance. Just search Google to see how many people are trying to solve this problem with hacking around and waisting time to solve this. Unfortunately you can't disable sound menu integration any more in VLC and neither have I found a related setting in Rhythmbox. To be honest I haven't seen any media player where I was able to configure sound menu integration. >From what I have seen a media player has either no sound menu integration or >if it has one you can't disable it. So it turns out that the idea that "applications have UI to disable integration" was not realized in practice. Currently the only way for VLC to remove the integration I have found is: sudo mv -vi /usr/lib/vlc/plugins/control/libdbus_plugin.so /usr/lib/vlc/plugins/control/libdbus_plugin.so.backup Is this really a good way to go? I would really be happy to see support for "blacklisted-media-players" removed only after all the media players that have sound menu integration have also the option to disable it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1320634 Title: The "blacklisted-media-players" key doesn't work To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/indicator-sound/+bug/1320634/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1506454] Re: kswapd kills the whole OS by eaing up resources
As an additional note AFAIK this only happened when VirtualBox was running. Although I don't know if this is related to the fact that VirtualBox is running or the fact that there is small amount of free memory available on the system when it is running. And again I would like to emphasize that there is no SWAP enabled on the system, but this already happened when there was and this is why I switched it of. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1506454 Title: kswapd kills the whole OS by eaing up resources To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1506454/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1506454] Re: kswapd kills the whole OS by eaing up resources
Hi it seems that updating BIOS has not solved this issue as my Desktop just crashed with the new BIOS. See the requested output here. $ sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date L01 v02.65 07/13/2015 What happens is that my desktop completely freezes and the only thing that is responding is the mouse pointer. I'm able to move the mouse pointer, but there is no reaction to any keystroke or mouse click in the DE. Gnome system monitor also stops updating. Sometimes I'm able to Ctrl + Alt + F1 to the terminal and type my username and password, but I never get a prompt. I use sysrq commands to reboot the computer. After the reboot checking the atop snapshots created around the time the OS gets unresponsive shows that kswapd0 is generating high read load on the root volume (system_vg-root_lv) and hereby also on the disk containing it (sda) and also high system load (PRC | sys 18.59s | user 0.20s | ). The disk and the volume are both 101% busy and there is a heavy read on them: MBr/s 362.31 (it is and SSD). There is also another disk in the computer and there is no load on that. Memory usage looks like this: MEM | tot 7.7G | free 127.4M | cache 1.3G | dirty 0.0M | buff 0.4M | slab 118.6M So it looks like kswapd0 is heavily reading the root filesystem or partition which is generating a high system load and killing the OS. If you need any additional information just let me know. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1506454 Title: kswapd kills the whole OS by eaing up resources To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1506454/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1462919] Re: kswapd pulls server down every 2 weeks.
I experience the same on desktop (15.04) maybe once a week. I presume that this happens when some laking application starts to eat up all the memory quickly. When this happens the whole machine gets unresponsive immediately and only restarting helps. It only turns out from the atop logs what happened after the machine was restarted. Atop is configured to run every 30 secs. It is visible from the atop logs that kswapd0 is eating up all the cpu resources. Strange thing is that this happens despite there is no swap enabled. I suppose what should happen is that the kernel OOMs and kills some application and everything is back to normal. What happens though is that the machine dies. [Bug 1455916] Re: Xorg unexpectedly crashed
Christopher, sorry for the very late answer. Yes I'm using GNOME Flashback with Metacity. I have been using this combination of desktop and WM since Ubuntu 15.04 came out (April). So it would be hard to say if using Compiz makes any change. I was watching a movie in VLC then I switched VLC from full screen to windowed mode and clicked around in Firefox I think. And that is when the crash happened. I have filed this bug because I thought you can get some hint from the logs regarding some bug that is present. If the logs are not enough I would say wait if that happens again and see how we can go forward as I would not be happy to use Compiz (I just don't like it) unnecessarily and it also seems that it wouldn't make any sense as the bug is very hard to reproduce. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1455916 Title: Xorg unexpectedly crashed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1455916/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1425700] [NEW] Drag Drop needs extra selection in Detailed List View in Thunar
Public bug reported: To reproduce: 1.) Open Thunar. 2.) Select the View menu from the menu bar. 3.) Select View as Detailed List. 4.) Go to a folder with at least one file. 5.) Unselect all files by clicking into the white area after the file list. 6.) Move the mouse over one of the files and click the left mouse button and keep it pressed and try to drag the file. What happens. - A selection box is activated but the file is not moved. What should happen. - The file should start moving into the direction where the mouse is moved. The drag and drop works otherwise but to get it working you have to first select the file with clicking on it. Then when the file is selected you can do the drag and drop, but this means clicking twice unnecessarily. Why I consider this a bug?: - Because the extra selection is not needed in any other file browser I ever met in my live. - Because it works as expected in all other listing modes like View as Icons without needing the extra selection. - Because it does not work as expected by the user. Reboot. Please note though that this fixes the issue, but prevents N mode from working, so you are stick with B and G modes. Otherwise I'm very disappointed that no one cares about this bug as I would be glad to provide all the information I'm able to to get this fixed. I'm also using gnome-panel and I am seeing the same behavior. This can cause accidentally loosing unsaved work and similar. To be more clear this happens when you click on the Shut Down... button in the appropriate menu of the Indicator Applet Complete applet. [Bug 964365] Re: Weather indicator as earthtools.org is down
What I did so far with the one installed from the repositories is I changed get_sun_data to return some fixed values. This was a homemade fix as I needed the weather information and did not find this bug at the time. You could do this possibly when earthtools.org is not available to avoid the icon stuck to yellow sun? [Bug 882184] Re: Dell N5110 laptop does not resume from hibernate
Hi, I'm currently running 12.04 LTS. I started with removing the following packages: liblzo2-2 uswsusp I downloaded the mainline kernel packages from here: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.4-precise/ Installed the following three packages: linux-headers-3.4.0-030400_3.4.0-030400.201205210521_all.deb linux-headers-3.4.0-030400-generic_3.4.0-030400.201205210521_amd64.deb linux-image-3.4.0-030400-generic_3.4.0-030400.201205210521_amd64.deb Unfortunately this kernel is very unstable at the moment on my laptop. It is not even enable to shutdown properly. When I click on hibernate in the Unity shutdown menu, it just locks the screen but does nothing else. --- I also tried hibernation with the current kernel (linux-image-3.2.0-24-generic, x86_64) with uswsusp uninstalled. Situation is the same. It sometimes resumes, but sometimes recovery hangs with a blinking underscore in the top left corner. Strange is that I can reproduce this om my wife's laptop which is a Dell Inspiron N5040: http://www.ubuntu.com/certification/hardware/201104-7783/ I experience the same, recovery hangs with a blinking underscore in the top left corner. Based on that this may be a bug which is triggered by some component on Dell laptops. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/882184 Title: Dell N5110 laptop does not resume from hibernate To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/882184/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 943507] [NEW] libpam-mysql lets you log in with any password when crypt=1 is set and the password field contains an empty string in the user record.
Public bug reported: libpam-mysql lets you log in with any password when crypt=1 is set and the password field contains an empty string in the user record. The problematic function is the following: static pam_mysql_err_t pam_mysql_check_passwd(pam_mysql_ctx_t *ctx, const char *user, const char *passwd, int null_inhibited) It is in pam_mysql-0.7RC1/pam_mysql.c. In this part of the code /* ENCRYPT */ case 1: vresult = strcmp(row[0], crypt(passwd, row[0])); crypt returns an empty string because of the empty salt provided and this matches the empty string from the password record. So it lets you in with any password. Here is a sample code to easily reproduce the mentioned behavior. #include stdio.h #include crypt.h #include unistd.h #include string.h int main(void) { char *userpassword = abcdef; char *sqlpassword = ; int vresult = -1; //vresult = strcmp(row[0], crypt(passwd, row[0])); vresult = strcmp(sqlpassword, crypt(userpassword, sqlpassword)); printf(vresult: %d\n, vresult); return 0; } ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.10 Package: libpam-mysql 0.7~RC1-4build2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.0.0-16.28-server 3.0.17 Uname: Linux 3.0.0-16-server x86_64 ApportVersion: 1.23-0ubuntu4 Architecture: amd64 Date: Wed Feb 29 19:57:30 2012 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu-Server 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot - Release amd64 (20111011) SourcePackage: pam-mysql UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) modified.conffile..etc.pam.mysql.conf: [modified] mtime.conffile..etc.pam.mysql.conf: 2011-05-17T15:57:24 ** Affects: pam-mysql (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug oneiric -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/943507 Title: libpam-mysql lets you log in with any password when crypt=1 is set and the password field contains an empty string in the user record. [Bug 882184] Re: Dell N5110 laptop does not resume from hibernate
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected staging ** Description changed: I'm not sure if this is actually a pm-utils or a kernel bug. So what happens is that after I hibernate my Laptop it does not recover in about 50% of the cases. During the recovery it simply unexpectedly restarts. Of course during this restart it does not enter the recovery phase again. This is the laptop model: http://www.ubuntu.com/certification/hardware/201012-6932:201101-7008 The last entries from syslog (the entries before the entries of normal start): Oct 26 09:13:24 desktop kernel: [37911.699784] EXT4-fs (dm-1): re-mounted. So the recovery does not generate entries in syslog during the recovery. That's really annoying. I can't rely on hibernation although I really would need it. I bought this laptop because it is Ubuntu certified :) I see this on the above mentioned page: Hibernate is disabled on this system But does it mean that it will never be supported on this system? Could someone help me in how to debug this to be able to gather more information? If it's something I can correct I'm willing to do this., at least try.
