[Bug 220119] Re: Ubuntu 8.04 RC + NVIDIA binary drivers = often crash/freeze
I crashed three times within 20 minutes of booting this morning - starting with the first just after login. I then spent some time researching this issue and it seems to be related to the NVidia hardware. I installed envyng-gtk from the Synaptic package manager and ran EnvyNG from the Applications/System Tools menu. I was able to reboot the computer without freezing up and am feeling optimistic about my future with the Hardy Heron. I will report back after a couple of days. I attempted to run with the proprietary NVIDIA drivers shut off, but still got crashes. It is possible as beefcurry wrote that the crashes were less frequent, but I can't swear to it. I haven't been able to discern a pattern in the crashing, so I'm uncertain if there was a change in it. Hopefully our renewed input will prompt an elevation of this issue. It is damn irritating, as I'm sure you can all imagine. Sorry I don't have more input, but I will continue to monitor this bug report and let you know about any changes that I experience in the status of the issue. I just disabled them and will post back if there is no success with that. Any help or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. [Bug 190515] Re: [Hardy] Low bandwidth with rt2400 / rt2500 drivers
i've been playing around with hardy proposed and hardy backports modules. i've noticed that there are two different versions of the module (at least). using modinfo rt2500pci there seems to be a 2.0.10 version and a 2.1.5 version the 2.0.10 version seems to work better for me. [Bug 190515] Re: [Hardy] Low bandwidth with rt2400 / rt2500 drivers
Some short comments: - This is definitely a regression. In Gutsy (even Feisty!) there was a reliable version of the driver. In Hardy there is a crappier version related to the code that was merged into the main linux tree. I quote from the front page rtx00 upstream web site: rt2x00 enters mainline kernel - January 2008 Hi All, two days ago, January 24th, Linux Kernel 2.6.24 was released. This is the first mainline kernel that includes (sadly a somewhat buggy) rt2x00 release. - It is more than just the rate issue. The code seems to have other problems. I have very variable success with associating under the same setup that worked perfectly under the hardy rt2500pci module. - I have linux-backports-modules-2.6.24-16-generic installed. doesn't help. Sometimes I get good performance, other times I can't even associate. What can be done to fix this? It kills/blocks/subverts networking on this popular network hardware (rt2500) in Hardy. -- [Hardy] Low bandwidth with rt2400 / rt2500 drivers https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/190515 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

my second dot point I should have said gutsy instead of hardy. Confirmed, this is also true in the upcoming Hardy release, even less excuse there as the G15 tools are available as packages from the Hardy repositories. After no such luck, I killed it, and the gnome- terminal running valgrind was therefore killed as well. ** Attachment added: valgrid-logs-gnome-terminal.tar.gz http://launchpadlibrarian.net/8898510/valgrid-logs-gnome-terminal.tar.gz -- gnome-terminal locks up on unicode input https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/133723 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 98813] Re: [apport] gnome-terminal crashed with SIGSEGV
I have been seeing the same symptoms. I was at first unable to reproduce it reliably, but I found that button-mashing (like repeating the home keys: asdf;lkj) while in unicode-input mode (scim) would crash it quickly. Actually, it doesn't crash, it just locks up. I have to then kill it manually (which kills all other instances of gnome- terminal at the same time). I tried to follow the valgrind wiki in order to produce this log, but if I did something wrong please let me know. I'm not too skilled at reporting this kind of bug yet, but I'm willing to learn. Attached is my valgrind log. also, please reopen this bug, as I need to use unicode from the command line for my school project. [Bug 104432] Re: Glipper makes copy/pasting of images in OpenOffice impossible
This bug is caused by some incorrect logic when the checkClipboard() function calls the processContent() function (both in src/main.c). If the call to gtk_clipboard_wait_for_text() returned a NULL (because the clipboard item could not be changed into plain text), the NULL gets passed to processContent(), and that function resets the clipboard to the last-known text item, obliterating all non-text clipboard items as quickly as they are found. I'll report this item upstream. In the meantime, if a quick fix is desired, the processContent() function could be changed to ignore a NULL newContent arg. That would cause Glipper to ignore all non-text items, with the only downside being that the drop-down menu would show the last-known plain-text item as being current even though no plain-text is available to paste (but that's better than the current behavior). ** Changed in: glipper (Ubuntu) Status: Unconfirmed = Confirmed -- Glipper makes copy/pasting of images in OpenOffice impossible https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/104432 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 105271] Re: Regression: metacity fails to create windows, sscrolbars, or toolbars in April 10th Synaptic upgrade
I had a similar problem. For me, it had to do with .gnome2/session. I had the session manager saving my session by default on logout, and I think that when I logged out with certain programs running, firefox at least, it somehow corrupted the file. Deleting .gnome2/session through a text terminal before logging in via gdm fixes the problem, and I could replicate the symptoms by logging out with firefox open and then trying to log back in via gdm, but could not replicate the problem when logging out with only a terminal open and then trying to log back in. For a more permanent, reliable fix, I turned off automatic session saving, and now, even with firefox open, logging out and logging in via gdm function as expected, though session saving is no longer automatic. [Bug 105679] Hyper win-key mapping not recognized by . . . gnome-keybindings?
Public bug reported: I've remapped the win-key to hyper to make it more useful to me, and while some of the keyboard shortcuts that I've set up with it work, for instance for metacity, the shotcuts that are apparently managed by the gnome-settings-daemon don't appear to work with that remapping. It shows up as Mod4+D in the keyboard shortcuts application and as Mod4Hyperd in gconf. If I try to map the same key combination to any of the shortcuts apparently managed by gnome-settings-daemon (calculator, eject, email, etc.), it shows up as Mod4+D in keybindings and Mod4Hyperd in gconf, but nothing happens when the actual keys are pressed with the desktop in focus. well the problem is that mysql has its own little world of usernames and passwords and privileges there are security issues if applications can get mysql root access to easily but i agree it is a bug and needs to be solved somehow, even if we simply provide instructions on how to set a mysql root password for that point of the installation -- Mythtv won't install https://launchpad.net/bugs/41339 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 41339] Re: Mythtv won't install
yes that is how I did it also the problem is if they are already using applications with mysql, they probably already have a root password set but possibly it could assume there is no root password, set it, and then if that fails ask the user for the root password mysql permissions are extremely capable but very complicated -- Mythtv won't install https://launchpad.net/bugs/41339 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 41339] Re: Mythtv won't install
I hit this exact same problem. Today. Jan 6th 2006. It seems you need to have mysql-server preinstalled and preconfigured and already know what your root password is. -- Mythtv won't install https://launchpad.net/bugs/41339 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 63649] Re: in edgy beta 1 gnome sound panel applet has no effect
I believe the problem was in my .asoundrc I deleted my .asoundrc and then reconfigured alsa and it works This is NOT because my .asoundrc was wrong in dapper. It is just that the alsa hda-intel drivers are changing rapidly between versions of alsa. So I think what happened is what alsa put in my .asoundrc in dapper is different to what alsa wanted to put into my .asoundrc in edgy. So it is still kind of a edgy and/or alsa bug. It has an easy fix so you can probably close this bug report. I did do a fresh install of edgy, but I kept my /home partition so lots of dot files remained from dapper. I guess this is a kind of ongoing problem in upgrades/fresh installs. -- in edgy beta 1 gnome sound panel applet has no effect https://launchpad.net/bugs/63649 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 52277] Re: hp laserjet 1100 fails to print
I had a similar problem with my HP LJ 2300 when I upgraded from dapper to edgy (actually it was a fresh install). I wonder if there is a problem with cups trying to use the hp specific drivers, rather than the generic usb/post script stuff. My printer wasn't working when it had the hp:/ URI, but it works now that I have the usb:/ URI and I replugged it in. -- hp laserjet 1100 fails to print https://launchpad.net/bugs/52277 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
